[Q] I have a Sprint NExus S with a bad ESN. What can... - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I do with it? I tried for days to get a good deal on a Sprint Nexus and inadvertantly bought one that had a bad ESN. I know it was a stupid thing to do and I've learned my lesson. I suppose I'll put it on EBay and try to unload it. I've read that these phones can b used on Cricket but what other options are there? Are there other carriers that can use this phone? Can the average Joe flash these phones to alternate carriers or do they need to be sent to hecking geniuses that charge a fee to do it?
Anyone want to take it off my hands?

That sucks. I believe it may be flashable on metro pcs as well.

That really does suck, next time meet at a Sprint store.. you'll never get burned that way. So how much are you wanting for the phone?

I paid $160 for it. I'd like to try to get my money back. The phone literally is in mint condition. I can't find a single scratch or scuff anywhere on it. It came with a black silicon case. I'm going to register and post it for sale over on the cricket forums. I was reading and it seems like it's a favorite for cricket users.

This really can't be fixed? I hears you can

I have seen them with bad esn sell for 200+ on ebay

You can put it on boost without flashing

Nexus s + medianet $15 data plan (at&t)

Has anyone gotten this to work?
For this to work, att can't have the imei of our phone. This leaves out the att version sold by best buy USA.
But what about the Canada version?

If you cant pay you cant play...... Seriously if you cant afford another 10 dollars you shouldn't have bought the phone.
Ok asshole. Instead, I'm a high schooler who wants a dev phone (relying on just the sdk emulator is a *****), and has to pay for it by myself because the nexus s isn't on Verizon, which is what my parents have. I can't sign a contract for another 10 months because I'm not old enough. And I can't afford to wait until the prime, because I have work I want to finish right now.
I'm not using the medianet plan. I'm using the $50 unlimited plan. They work the same, because at&t scans for imeis of known smartphones that they sell, like the atrix. I was just wondering if the canadian nexus s worked because recently best buy USA started selling an att version.
My nexus one never worked on it (only text and calls), so I was just wondering about the s. I can get a new white one for cheap.
Edit: but seriously dude why would you come to a random person and say stuff like that? I guarantee you wouldn't say it to my face. I bet you wont even call me and say it. Why do you think you're so much better because you can sign a contract and pay extra money?
AT&T Crack Down
AT&T will eventually find out that you are using an excessive amount of data throughput via "medianet". I know there was an iPhone 2g trick that would fool AT&T into allowing the $15 plan; however the access in which your smart phone "dials out" to AT&T would expose your phone as being a smart phone. I had an N1 on AT&T and they knew the IMEI number... I bought it via Google too. AT&T has their ways...
The only thing you could do is get the NS, w/ or w/o a 2yr plan and use the DataPlus plan for $15. (If cost is an issue.)
Cost isn't the issue, its the contract. I can't sign one. I'm on an incredible s right now from Canada on the dumb phone plan with ATT and I was just wondering if the nexus would know or not. They knew about my n1 but not my inc s.

I bought one prior to it releasing on AT&T (through Best Buy mobile) and it worked fine on the $10/$15 MEdiaNet Data plan. Decided to sell it as soon as AT&T released it as their own. I've been wondering the same question lately seeing it's one of the best android phones for the price (I can get a used Rogers one for about $300 unsubsidized.) I'm currently using the Desire Z from Bell Canada on the MEdiaNet plan.
P.S. Would you be willing to sell your Incredible S for around $300?
No thanks, I'm looking for closer to 400 on it. But OK cool the nexus worked

the unlocked t-mobile version isn't seen as a smartphone by at&t and the poor soul who had the nexus one that was spotted as a smartphone, if yours had the t-mobile frequencies then you were just unlucky.
if its built with t-mobile 3g then it will only connect to the EDGE network and i don't think at&t really cares.

Thanks for chiming in 17 days late. So I'm on a high horse because I think trying to cheat a company out of 10 bucks was stupid? Are you going to support him when he comes back and asks how to download paid apps for free? Where are you going to draw the line? You say to leave my morals out and to either help the kid or say nothing? So what exactly did your post do to help him?

Everyone should just stop. I figured it all out, I'm now on straight talk for unlimited everything + 2gb data for $45 a month, and it uses AT&T towers (mvno carrier). This plan worked better, but it requires a $100 fee to start up, but I paid the price because I can't sign contracts.
I wanted to use the medianet plan because I can't sign a contract while I'm under 18. I never wanted to get free apps, or do anything like that. I've been around XDA for a bit, dabbled in devving for a few phones, and I'm pretty sure some of my threads are even stickied. I know the rules etc.
All that said, PLENTY of threads are on XDA about taking advantage of the medianet loophole. It saves $20+ a month, and data is unlimited (not available to other plans) and unthrottled. Many people have no problem sticking it to a corporation that they hate like AT&T, and IMO unlimited data should be unlimited.. smartphone or not, so I had no problem with the idea of it.

I bought a rogers nexus s (french+english text on box) and they changed my data plan
I got a white i9020a (canadian?) and they changed my dataplan from medianet to a smartphone They can't have the IME number though.. and I tethered all the time on my Nokia E71 w/ medianet so I don't think it was data usage that tipped them off.
How could they know I got an i9020a Nexus S? Maybe a heuristic like if you download from Google's market servers you're on a smartphone?

If an NS4G is what you have then that is what you will get given supply. You can't exactly ask for more then you got.
Just took my ns4g in a few days ago because of abysmal signal and Increasingly yellow tinge to white colors on the screen. They offered to replace it because they didn't have any parts available in house but then discovered that the insurance company had no replacements available and had it listed as no chance of restock. The insurance company had it locked so it could only be replaced with a evo slide, htc design, or Motorola photon 4g. I tried *****ing them into a galaxy nexus but they said they couldn't do anything about it, the system would only let them choose from those 3. So if any of these phones interest you Id give it a shot. Just keep in mind that the Motorola photon the only decent option has a locked boot loader and the newest one hasn't been hacked yet, so you would be stuck with old ass android 2.3 rather than the sexy 4.1 you have now. The other two are also stock 2.3 but may be hackable, I didn't really look because i went for the photon.
Quick side note,
I first took it to the sprint store 5 min from my house and they told me it wouldn't be worth my time to get a replacement, and they wouldn't even look at it. They gave me the number of the insurance company and said I would have to pay shipping and a deposit to get a replacement. Then went to a sprint place 45min away a few days later for the lolz(was in the area) and they offered a replacement on the spot. Same with the epic 4g on my account. space bar was broken on keyboard, first store couldn't even open it up because of "a stripped screw" so they wouldn't be able to replace/fix it. went to second store they opened it right up and fixed it. Moral of the story if they wont give you what you want try another sprint store. (both are corporate stores btw)

Craigslist buyer questions!

Hey everyone! I'm really interested in upgrading to the S3 from the T-bolt and I'm not willing to lose my unlimited internet or pay $600 for a brand new retail phone. So I turned to craigslist! I have found a few ads but I'm skeptical about buying them. Are there certain questions I should ask them? Such as the clean ESN/IMEI #? Are there any pictures I should specifically ask for? I'm just trying to get the S3 but without any hidden flaws and catches! So, any help is truly appreciated. Thanks again guys!
Oh, and I also forgot to ask which "model" of the S3 is compatible with Verizon? I know there's a few but I wanted to make sure as well.
I've never bought a phone online so I'm only repeating what I've seen mentioned before. If you live close to the buyer, you can ask them to meet at a local Verizon store to verify the ESN is clean. The Verizon GSIII model number is: SCH-i535. If you can meet in person, just test out several functions of the phone that you would use to verify they work: calls, Bluetooth, no dead pixels on display, tampering on the inside of the phone where the battery is. Things like that which you can test with ease.

I buy a lot on craiglist and sell for that matter(about to sell my s3 on there). Like said before meet at verizon and verify sim on spot. Also if possible activate it right then before paying. Check the water sensor under battery, glance over physical condition (some people say like new and they're not). I also recommended to pull off screen protector to see if they are hiding scratches with one.

I have bought & sold on Craigslist & Swappa. Craigslist is fine as long as you can get real pics sent to you via text or email. I bought 2 GS3's on CL recently. Picked up a white 16gb in excellent condition for $275 & a blue 32gb in pristine condition for $290. Had actual pics sent to me, met them at a Verizon, inspected the phone, popped in my sim, made a call, tested the screen & paid. Always, always , always meet at a Verizon. If they won't, don't do it.
Don't buy on craigslist unless you meet in a public place (verizon store is best...). The model number is SCH-I535 for Verizon phones, although if you want a 4g international GS3 should work. However, if you buy it through verizon on a contract you shouldn't loose your unlimited data... Good luck.

HTC Thunderbolt activation

Hello all,
So I snagged a thunderbolt from a guy locally who only wanted 20.00 bucks for the phone cause he upgraded to a new phone. I don't think this guy know how much this phone still sells for used, thought it was to good to be true but jumped on the offer anyway and bought it for the heck of it even though I already have a droid X2 running off of page plus. The phone is almost in new condition, called Verizon to verify it was clean for activation and it is
So my question ive heard that http://www.beigephone.com/ will flash the phone to work on page plus, has anyone used this and is it a good company to go though? Also would I have to pick up another 4G LTE sim card since he left is old one in the phone?
I would do it myself, I have been rooting and flashing phones for a few years now but not sure if I wanna pony up the 100.00 bucks for CDMA Workshop since this company only charges 49.99 for flashing.
Sorry for any misspells bad day at work and was kind of drunk when I wrote this
Thanks,

Have to sell my Nexus 5, what phone to get on VZW?

Man this sucks so hard. I was hoping to switch from Verizon to T-mobile but the service at home for me is not going to cut it. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? I'm looking at the Moto X dev edition and the G2, not sure which one will be the best choice after giving up my N5
I like the G2 but I think I would get more out of the Moto X. Would have to play with both side by side to make a final choice though.
sure you can't try AT&T? hate to see you not be able to use such a good phone because of the service. probably be seeing close to the same prices if you go with Verizon.

I would get the Note 3 if you can handle the size, I played around with it a little at Best Buy and fell in love. I'm on Verizon so I never had the opportunity to get the Nexus 5, so I will be getting the Note 3 later this week. I might sell it when Google's Verizon project comes out next year, depending what the specs are and how much I like the Note 3.
Keep in mind they do have a Note 3 developer edition.
And if you decide the Note 3 is too big for you, I'd get the G2.
Moto X all the way.
Yeah the only reason I'll stick with Verizon is because I have the unlimited $30 data. :'(

That is if they'll let you keep it if you upgrade your phone. Been hearing they've been basically trying to force people off the unlimited plans in such a way.
If by "home" you mean your actual house, why not just keep your baby and get better signal?
Have you looked into cellular boosters?
Buying straight from a store is probably going to eat your pockets out and then some, so I would suggest using eBay.
I run AT&T and have horrid service at home, but luckily AT&T has a "Microcell" cell booster that I paid maybe $99 for, but I get full bars everywhere in my house. Well worth it.
Here's one for T-Mobile I found on eBay ending in 2 days as of this reply.

I'd hate to see you have to give up your N5, honestly...
I have a similar problem.
Tried Tmobile, no service
Tried Straight Talk, no service
Verizon isn't compatible
Page Plus won't work wither
I'm gonna try out AT&T but IDK if that will work either
I live in a rural area, and it seems like Verizon would be the best carrier for me.
I looked up a Tmobile booster but the prices are ridiculous and I saw a topic earlier where someone bought one but it wasn't working properly with their Nexus 5. I love my Nexus 5 and don't want to give it up, but I might not have a choice.
As a t mo subscriber for 2+ years its terrible anywhere rural. Had ATT Sprint and Verizon prior. Only Verizon was strong in NH. ATT was second and sprint and T mo are on par with each other. Hence the cheap plans. Thankfully I live not in a rural area anymore in terms of service.
That being said its terrible Verizon opted out not being part of the N5.
Would suggest trying ATT and if that fails if you have the cash get an S4 or HTC One. My HTC One had Sim issue and since I had cracked screen no warranty help so now I have a N5.
Since Verizon doesn't use Sim card...? Maybe HTC one is best for you then use a ROM to get 4.4.
The boom sound and the screen is best in the biz IMHO.
