I've noticed that in order to enable wireless charging for the S4 you have to replace the back cover with the one in the kit, but then that means you can't use a case like the S-View etc as they also need their own back cover. Has there been any word on wireless charging enabled versions of the S-view or normal flip cover?
I'd like to know so for the S-View too. Thanks.
I know it makes your phone thicker, I'm not sure any cases will work with the back cover.
Is the wireless back cover even available to purchase yet? I want one ASAP. I read somewhere its release was pushed back...anybody know anything?

Get something like this
Wireless charging insert
Just match up the copper to the pins and and use copper tape. Any standard case will fit.
Do those wireless inserts really work?

It does not. it has no induction coil, no power contacts.
Found one insert that will be shipping shortly to work with any Galaxy S4 back cover
(They have a Galaxy S III version as well if interested)
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/wiqiqi-wireless-charger-kit-for-samsung-galaxy-s4-or-s3-ultra-thin-light
I will definitely be picking this up for the fact that it's not a mod but an official design for the S4 and you can use any back cover with it (avoiding the thicker official wireless charging back cover as well). :good:
That's awesome! I wanna get 1 as well while living outside US.
If only Samsung didn't offer awesome items then completely let us down everytime. Either way I need something QI soon to go with my Nexus QI charger.

I can confirm it definitely does not. The S view case is really poor IMO, sent mine back for a refund straight away.
One other potential problem I've been thinking about, if you want wireless charging I'm presuming that you won't be able to put an extra case on your phone as that would act like a barrier? That's a shame.

I think the Qi charging works through a lot of cases.
I'm curious to hear if anyone gets an insert to work with the stock back cover. There seems to be much less space under the cover in comparison to the S3 so I'd be surprised if any of the inserts will be thin enough to fit.

I think we're good. :good:
I have just received my genuine wireless charging cover and stripped it apart. The thing to do is remove the long pins that are soldered on the Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) and build solder blobs not to high and stick it back in the phone put the standard rear cover on then any case will fit & you have wireless charging with virtually no bump. I have included pictures but unfortunately cannot take photo's of the phone as I have no other camera.
Done this with my Note 3 and had zero problems!

It seems like a lot of work and a waste of money to buy the expensive Samsung wireless charging back just to tear it apart.

I see that it is covering a portion of NFC on the battery, does NFC still work for you?
Also, if not, wouldnt we just be able to cut the film strip in the center and just use a very small wire of some sort to extend it but to keep NFC functionality?

NFC works without a case on the phone. It doesn't work through my Spigen Slim Armor though. Maybe thinner cases NFC will still work fine.
Keeping original charging cover ensures correct charging. Safety features of the chip on board original wireless charging cover have temp sensors also, as opposed to non origional covers. Nfc is built in to original cover and retained in this mod.

Does nfc work with this mod?
Yes the original cover which this is has the nfc coil around the edge of the charging coil. You can see from pictures posted
i cant post any link here as im a new user but you can go to youtube and search "Note Edge Flip Wallet Qi Wireless Charging (DIY)" to check it out
i cracked open the original samsung qi wireless back and attach the qi receiver to the flip wallet back, anyone is interested in more details please let me know
Guide?
I would love if you could go over the steps on how you integrated the receiver into the flip cover. In the video I see the flip wallet clock still works since it's tied to the magnet in the cover, not the back cover contacts (got creative with the Gear Circle to test this). Does NFC work correctly?
Also curious of NFC works.

Very interested in this answer. Would be a good dolar savings to reuse the innards and would be a great combo with the leather case (like the video.).
Steps and pic if possible?
sorry guys I've been busy past few days couldn't reply earlier. for your questions:
1. NFC works perfectly
2. Require the original note edge qi receiver (from the original case as there is no 3rd party qi receiver out there yet) as you can see below the qi receiver connectors need to match the phone's terminals (i.e. the L shaped below the sd card slot and the one above the battery
and regarding steps, unfortunately i did not take video or pix while cracking open the original case and attaching to the flip wallet but i''ll try my best to explain here
1. this is how the original case looks like (pic1)
2. use a knife to start cracking the 4 corners then sides of the plastic piece in the middle which has the qi receiver attached underneath and this is how it looks after detaching it from the case (of course the qi receiver should be there too but mine is already glued to my flip wallet now) (pic2)
3. you should fine the qi receiver is glued to the plastic piece (the left one in pic2) but can be removed easily (with care also!) by hand
4. on the flip wallet you should see a chip attached to it (pic3) please make sure that is removed before attaching the qi receiver on it as one of the qi connectors is at the same spot so without removing the chip on the flip wallet you can't attach your phone properly to the wallet
5. after removing the chip, place the qi receiver on the flip wallet at the same positions as where the connectors should be touching the phone's terminals (pic4)
6. DONE!
NFC works, wireless charging works and edge panel responds to the flip wallet cover! do it at your own risk but it is pretty straight forward!
ENJOY!

that is correct, note 4 has different terminals than note edge. and for your information, i have checked with 2 companies which manufactures 3rd party qi receivers for samsung phones both said they do not have plan yet on making one for edge (guess from profit perspective edge is a limited production phone) and that is why i went ahead to DIY one using the original note edge qi case

From the pictures it looks like he used a type of frabic tape.
I'm sure he will chime in with that he did.
I thought about doing this from the start , I don't like the thickness of the charging backs. So I was going to rip the guts out and put in on the OEM back.
But that's alot of money just to rip it apart.
I had the thin small pad for my Note 3 and it only cost about $10. So I think I'll wait on the note edge buntil they get the thin pads aslo.
My qi case came in and I did the mod for the wallet case.
It works perfectly! Thanks OP!

Just to be clear this mod was done from an Edge Qi back cover to a waller case back cover. Im guessing to avoid the extra thickness added by the Qi backing.
Can this be done to the original backing that comes with the note edge so that I can have Qi with the simple backing and no extra thickness

This could be a quick and easy way to do this whole mod but I think I want to keep the ability to use the usb port in case I need quickcharge or use the port for mass storage.
Also does anyone know what amperage the OEM case allow. Cause I saw that Samsung official Qi chargers are 2amp but most only deliver 1amp from what i know.
On bottom L sharp pins; pin of inside is + 5v and pin of out side is ground. you can mod samsung s5 wireless charger receiver to install. (pin of wireless charger receiver s5 is opposite compare to note edge). so i trip off plastic cover of receiver and pull up pcb sidedown to made compatible pins .
Cons: due to wireless receiver is 1.0 compatible=used ic bq5101xx = max 1000ma.
note edge can handle 1700 ma so receiver get hot;
Solutions: used usb charger under 1000ma or connect 2 wireless receiver in parallel way. (1 up and 1 down; coils are center and symmetric).

Hi, anyone have solution to how to use LED Flip Cover and QI receiver at same time?
Both are using same pins
I had the same problem after I bought a bunch of S-View cases, then I came across THESE, after many weeks trawling, they have contacts on both sides so they're supposed to act as a pass-through.
I can confirm the LED cover works with the wireless charging receiver in the above link.
I did however make one minor tweak to get it working though. There are 5 pins to the left of the battery but only 4 are covered by the receiver with the 'pass through pin'. Because of the pass through pin, it raised your case a bit and as a result the 5the connector was having trouble connecting to the case. I ended up adding a small metal pin on top of the 5th connector so the case can touch the pin.
Just tested and everything works. Its awesome!
Tnx for info and link, but I was not able to order product from your link since they don't ship to Norway. But I found that company (TOMTOP) that sell this product have a site on Aliexpress too and ship to Norway

I pulled one of the pins from an old wireless receiver that I had and placed it on the 5th pin. This allows the case to make contact with all 5 pins.
Looks like NFC is lost with this modification.

Answering my own question: yes, there is a bulge, and yes, there are openings next to the sensor. The receiver is not 0,5mm at the thickest place but more like 1-1,2 mm :/
Well, the quest continues.
So do it work flip led wallet with a Q1 receiver?
yes You just need to add small peace of metal for one pin. you can make if form kitchen alufolie
Can you post a picture of it and which receiver work? looking for a 1000mAh receiver
I bought this receiver as well and found that I had to mod two pins to get it to work. Also, for me the bulge added is annoying. The phone doesn't sit flat when its on a surface - rocks a bit. As for wireless function, it does work but very finicky for charger placement.

I have the same coil but only needed to mod one pin. That fifth pin for LED case. I do notice a slight bulge but nothing that is really noticeable when using or resting on a surface. I used a small piece of foil to connect the fifth pin. Works fine so far.
Hi guys (and girls)...
I will just add some info here because the subject matches the title.
I successfully combined the above devices into one, but I tried to do it more ... let's say, compact.
I'll let the picture show the final result.
In case you are wondering, I used one of these to carve in the back of the case in order to accommodate the Qi circuitry and coil.
There don't seem to be any OEM Qi backs left., which is what I wanted. I got an aftermarket one, which is as thin as the stock non-wireless back, but that 1) doesn't fit all that well; there's always a gap at one corner or other, depending on which end I start with when putting it on, and 2) is at least moderately durable.
The one I have is starting to split, 3 months in. It charges fine (800mA at 5VDC, which is better than my Note 3 with OEM charging back)
So... if you are using a wireless charging back, which one are you using, and how do you like it?
BTW, I've been using a number of these wireless charging docks ($10 on amazon) and they're great if you want a spot you can just plonk your phone down and have it charging.
Hello, I'm using this on my phone and it fits and works perfectly.

Here is the back I purchased.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DB89ACG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use it with this charger. I read a lot of reviews that the wireless charging is very slow and someone even said it was more like a toy... For me, the wireless charger easily charges my phone as fast as a 1 amp charger. You do have to have a minimum of a 1 amp wall adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Cha...90870&sr=1-11&keywords=wireless++fast+charger
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I use a rubberized case with my phone, so it is rather thick and have no issues using the charger with it.
I think the charger and back that bishop mentioned are fine. I used similar, but I actually stripped the charging circuit out of the back, removed the black plastic cover and put it into a standard (genuine) Samsung back, which I know fits perfectly. In fact, I bought 2 of these backs and stripped out the charging circuit in both. I put one in a standard back and another in a Samsung S-View cover because the Charging S-View cover from Samsung is no longer available. Now I have the choice of either S-View charging or standard back. charging for when I use the VR headset. BTW, looking at the circuit for the backs I used, it looks like NFC is in there as well.
I bought two different Qi receivers (and used the original back), and I regret it. The first one died after a month or two, and the second one heated up the phone while charging and ruined the battery.
So I broke down and bought Samsung's wireless charging back, and it has been working perfectly.

I also use this back, (sold under the h-ber brand name on amazon) and it works fine. Of course the back does fit a little tight, and sometimes, you have to put it on the bottom (near USB port) first, or the clips don't clip.

Thx a bunch for your prompt response. Sorry, what kinda glue is this? I know it gets hot back there and I've never been this best at choosing proper adhesive materials. I'm specifically using this setup for a contraption I found for the gear. I purchased a built in back but don't trust it's quality. Here is the gear contraption. It will be my 4th fan setup but this time, wifi charging is a possibility:

I used double sided tape when I did mine - not quite as permanent as glue, just in case it moved before the glue set.
