Hi guys, anyone tried these hybrid metal replacement covers on their note 4s? they look pretty good, but I don't know if they will affect signal
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Classic-Hybrid-Metal-Replace-Battery-Door-Cover-Case-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4-/161492609153?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item2599b5a881
Not sure if it would affect signal as some of the antennas are on top and bottom edge of the phone.
But the back cover does look nice.
looks nice, but I have to wonder if its metal, the back sure looks like plastic still (maybe that's why its called hybrid?)
I wonder if its similar to the metal edges on the note 4, look to me to be clad in metal, not actually all metal.
Yes it is hybrid, the inside part is plastic, I'm not sure about the outer part though, if it is real metal or just faux metal
Its fully plastic, you can see it from the pictures as well, it's a note 2 styled back plastic .
I prefer the original back over this one, its smoother and it's got so much more grip (owned a note 2 before the note 4)

I also thought that it was all plastic, until I saw the close up of the "Galaxy Note 4" text on the back, looks really metal, still not 100% sure though

Under the description, In RED letters. it says that it will affect signal. "This Hybrid Metal & Plastic case will affect the signal more or less, pls consider this problem before place an order!"
Looks nice tho. Pretty sure if there is an all metal case...it would be all bend and warped looking after you pull it off the phone a few times.
All the things you guys are wondering about is in Red letters.

Has anyone seen this new case by Zenus? I love that they have integrated a clear hard plastic covering the edge for protection, but I wish the inside of case had a slot for some cash...then it would be perfect for me. I guess I've been spoiled by the wallet style case I had by Zenus for my old Note 2. Check it out...
Man...since I'm new here, I can't post a link. Sorry... go to zenus case . Net and look under note edge cases.

the case costs more than the samsung cover but does not say if it utilizes the magnet to cut the display off. that is the key. if not then you pay more and loose that functionality.

I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered it because I've been so afraid of dropping the phone. The pictures show coverage around the top, bottom, and sides of the phone, and that hard plastic part around the edge with the slit inside it so you can still use the edge sold me on it.
I'll see about the magnet when it gets here. It will be a couple of weeks since its coming from Asia.

Great. I agree that the plastic edge is a good protection.
Let us know 3 things when you get it.
1. Show some pics from the top and bottom view, I would like to see a bit better how much this case adds thickness to the device.
2. As others have mentioned, let us know about any magnetic closure features.
3. I am concerned about the on/off button being pressed accidently while in my pocket, carrying bag etc... There is no indentation on the front cover where the on/off button will press on, as with the Samsung case. Also, does the 1mm leather card slot protect it from doing this, and/or does it press on the screen affecting in any negative way?
These are some of my concerns, but the case does look promising.
Also a cheaper option (synthetic leather & possible metallic materials) but same design concept by Zenus.

I am seriously considering getting this device next week.

Got my Zenus case today. No magnet. The plastic bar along the edge is also flimsy. Not sure if it was meant to be that way, but it bends inward very easily.
Maybe making the thin plastic bar metal would have been nicer. Although I could see metal possibly scratching the curved screen...
The rest of the case is great and fits perfectly.

Can you post pics pls
The case finally came today after ordering it 2 weeks ago. I'm not too sure how I like it yet. I do like that the sides and the top are completely protected by the rubber inside of the case. As the poster before me said, the clear plastic over the edge is flimsy. It's a flexible plastic, instead of hard plastic and there no magnet. I snapped a few pics with my husband's iPhone 6 plus. So if the quality is bad, blame it on his phone! Check out the pics and tell me what yall think.
I've decided to post a few more pics and give my final verdict on this case. I originally had the original Samsung flip case, and I've realized that you lose the functionality that you have with that case, but you gain protection with the zenus.
Here are a few cons...
1. When calls come in, they don't appear in the edge as they do with the Samsung case . You have to open the case to see who's calling. (I had gotten used to seeing who was calling from the edge and answering or rejecting the calls from there.)
2. Although the slit is present on the clear plastic over the edge, it's hard to swipe through the different panels.
3. The case adds quite a bit of weight the phone.
4. There is no magnet, so when you close cover, the main screens runs over onto the exposed clear part of the case. ( I've been accustomed to the personal message appearing when the cover is closed. )
5. The clear plastic is very flimsy.
Pros...
1. Protection
2. Kick stand for watching movies
I have decided to forfeit protection and go back to the original Samsung flip case.

Does it make the phone significantly thicker? is there a way for you to do a side by side comparison with the phone with a case and without a case?

Very similar views here. Just a couple of points to add as workarounds. I notice the Samsung case has a chip like thing on the back which may make the difference.
1. You do get the call on the panel if you are already in another app. Not if you are on homescreen or the cover is closed.
2. The alarm clock functionality that the Samsung case has is also lost. In the Samsung, the alarm rings on the panel, and can be turned off or snoozed from the edge, which is nice. Any other case, you have to open the cover as usual. Also you lose the clock animation when opening and closing the case.
3. The workaround to having the screen turn on automatically is to use the app Auto Screen on off. Works very well. Has the added advantage of being able to screen on again without pressing the home button by just waving over the proximity sensor.
4. The case is much thicker and adds size and weight. I personally liked this as I have large hands, and also found it easier for two thumb typing.
5. Protection, as mentioned by the earlier poster, is far better. The plastic seems
flimsy but adequate to protect the edge.
So quite a few things can be worked around. Basically a personal call. In my case, after doing all the above, I've still gone back to the original samsung for the functionality ☺
I keep seeing people posting "bumper" cases, but it seems that they don't understand what a bumper Case is our the company they bought from doesn't.... rusher way I'm looking for an actual aluminum bumper for my s6. Bumper meaning no back what so ever. Only edge protection. Please post any and all bumpers you find aluminium or otherwise and I will start a list here in the OP.
Ps. I have the versus iron shield bumper and while it is very nice I would highly recommend it, it's bumper bit large for my taste. Looking for something slimmer.
Aluminium Bumpers:
Verus Iron Shield Aluminium Bumper
Baesus Aluminium Bumper S6
Other Bumpers:
Spigen Neo Hybrid Bumper - Polycarbonate

The only other place i can think of is casefanatic.com,
bumpers category: http://www.casefanatic.com/samsung/galaxy-s6/bumper-galaxy-s6/
but they ship most of em from china so unless you choose fast shipping then it'll take a couple weeks to get to you. But they have a large selection of cases for the s6 including about 3-5 bumper cases.
I have a Verus Aluminum bumper. Spigen has an identical one, but with black rubber instead of clear. And there are plenty more out there.
I am, however, now looking for an all plastic/rubber case that isn't ugly as the aluminum completely kills signal. I lose about 40 dBm of signal (full 5 bars to 1bar/no signal) as soon as I put the aluminum bumper on.
My phone with Verus aluminum bumper:
Edit: Sorry, I missed your "P.S.", I read the top part and thought the rest was part of your sig. That said, anything "smaller/thinner" than something like the Verus won't protect the camera on the back. I'd personally rather have another mm of thickness and not be laying the phone down on the camera.
Any aluminum bumper will degrade signal and wifi,it happens on the spigens, obliqs, or just about any metal band. I had the spigen and noticed it.

Yeah I like the Verus and it's a great case. It's just so think... I love how they damn near perfectly mimicked the edges of the s6. I haven't had any issues with signal degradation though. Kind of odd that you are, the silicon buffer is supposed to make it so that doesn't happen. Very odd indeed.
Oh and I am going to edit the OP to ask for all bumper case suggestions so that those who aren't looking for an aluminum option have somewhere to look as well. :good:

I would've as well but it's not aluminium which for me personally is a must. Also I fear an aluminium version would suffer from the same size issue as the Verus.
If you both would post pics when you get them I'd like to compare it to the Verus for size. Obviously a picture isn't the best way to do it, but it's better than nothing.

i hate to admit it but you are absolutely right. I just got this bumber and love how sleek it is, i prefer it over my neo hydrid ex. But after seeing your comment and testing it out there's a huge difference in signal strength. With the metal bumber i get -113/114 dBm with 26 asu compared to the neo hybrid with -105dBm with 34 asu. i always thought it was just those cases with the metal backing that effected signal but just the bumper is enough to make a significant difference.

I had a really hard time putting it on the first time, and then trying to take it off the first time, I thought it was now a permanent fixture. I was really afraid I was going to break the phone from the pressure. Once I finally got it off, I couldn't get the Iron Shield case on. (The bumper is printed "Iron Shield", but it's actually "Iron Bumper" - they just use the same bumper piece for both.) I've now taken each off a couple times, and the rubber is getting more flexible now.
But yes, it will come off with some SERIOUS effort - just be careful. I have no helpful tips other than "keep trying".
I have both the verus aluminum and the spider plastic bumpers. I like the spigen one, but honestly I didn't feel like it was very protective. It just felt flimsy. The verus felt better in the had, but made the phone too wide, and also the headphones jack was super slim. I ended up taking a drill and widening it so my headphones will fit.

I had to break the Verus bumper to get it off. I will be demanding a refund.

I don't understand why everyone says the verus is hard to take off. It's tight, but not difficult. I usually start at the top and push the bumper back while moving the phone and rubber part forward.

The first time I tried to take it off, it very much felt like the phone was going to break well before the case came off.
For those having issues, what finally became a good method for me was to use a thicker (terry cloth type) microfiber cloth to get a decent grip on the top/right corner, from the front pushing the corner off to the back, and just slowly, with steady/firm pressure, push the case back. Trying to quickly force it off did nothing, but a slow firm pressure did it. Then once that slid off, repeat at the top left corner, with will come more easily.
Another issue for me with the aluminum bumpers is that I dont want it to come free of the rubber and then scratch the glass (unlikely) or the phone's aluminum edge (far more likely).
I picked up a "Xuenair" branded silver aluminium bumper from eBay. It looks great, the buttons feel good, and the cutouts are perfect. Unfortunately though, it kills my GPS. Interesting enough, the cellular signal only degrades by 2-4 dbm at home.
I do use GPS quite often though.. so eBay refund process I go.

Does that bumper have anything to keep the camera off of a table surface when setting it down? (I assume you got the thin bare metal one that latches on.)

I do indeed have the thin metal one with a latch on the bottom right corner. To answer your question though, no, my camera unfortunately still remains in contact with the surface when it's laying down. I'm not too concerned about it since I have a tiny PET film lens protector, but it definitely could scratch the paint still.
Got it ! Very Elegant !
Bought this case for $9 with a promo code. Decided to give it a shot, never heard of the brand Verus, but I always wanted an aluminum case for the S6, and for the price, heck, why not.
Turns out it the case is amazing!
First of all, the case looks fantastic, it's probably one of the nicest looking cases for the Galaxy S6 at the moment. The brushed texture of the case itself has great grip and makes this case look sleek and professional. I had a clear case before to show off the back design of the Galaxy S6, but the design of this case makes the S6 look so nice that I would actually prefer this cover rather than the naked S6 back. It's that nice!
This 2-piece set comes with an aluminum frame that covers the sides. This bumper is the best part about the case. It looks and feels exactly like the S6's bumper, and is of high quality. The volume rockers are even labeled with + and - so you know the difference. It just goes to show the quality and craftsmanship of this case. And I haven't experienced any signal loss or GPS issues while using this bumper, which is a relief!
Overall, I would highly recommend this case to anyone who wants an aluminum bumper. Verus isn't a well known brand, but after buying this case, they are just as competitive if not better than Spigen / Otterbox / Speck.
The only downside is installing the case onto your S6. It's going to be a real pain getting the aluminum bumper to perfectly be aligned with the cover. It's going to take some effort and you will struggle to get the aluminum bumper fitted exactly onto the case. I had to use hard force to push the aluminum bumper perfectly into the case, but once that's done, you'll never want to take it off. That's a small knock for what is a truly awesome case!

Hi everyone,
Have anyone here tested metal cases? Are they good at shock absorbing? What about the design? Are they scratched easily? What's your idea?
What about the ones who have it, do you recommend such cases?
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
No, it makes it even heavier so even more chance to broke it...the best imo is TPU clear extra slim case... + Nillkin H+ Pro glass
Dude I want it to be beautiful beside shock absorbent. I have the official TPU case and it fits well, but the transparency has faded away(it's turning into a browny yellow color). It captures heat so the device gets warm. and last but not least, it's no good at shock absorbing
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
Well buy a couple of them if they are getting faded...they are like 1$ a piece. And I use this clear case and it doesnt capture heat... I mean my device is not heating any more then without it. Whats your temperature? I get max 32celsius with normal usage.
Plus you must know, our device is 165g + Nillkin glass cca. 10g + clear case cca 10-15g..its alreafy arond 200g, now imagine putting metal case on it.
Why put a metal case when the device itself is aluminum back

I don't want to ruin the body cause I can hardly replace it here.
Metal cases are a bad idea... they interfere with the device radios. I learned this the hard way when I replaced the back of my Blackberry with a metal cover back in the day. I noticed that my reception was worse and my GPS no longer worked. Took me way too long to realize that it was because of the metal back cover.
Oh, and it happened to me again with Samsung Note 4, bought Spigen TPU case with a metal border and I noticed reduced signal strength.

Thank you for sharing you exps with others sir
i'm using aluminum case with my kate without signal problems. Yes it feels little fat but i think it can protect better..
When I used one I couldn't keep an LTE signal to save my life. Took it off and used a TPU case and haven't had any signal issues since.
Like the title says will my old Z-Flip 3 cases fit the Z-Flip 4?
My Samsung Aramid case fits, but has a slight misalignment over the flash module.
My case fits on Flip 4 too, just as good as on Flip 3 5G.

Interesting case. is it as chunky as it looks though?
Im sure it will "fit" like most samsung cases they make slight changes each gen to make them not fit perfect. Have run into this issue going from s20fe to s21fe.

Haha this was the first hinge protective case I found as I was pretty scared to skateboard tricks without a hinge protected case (for example before this I had the default white silicone case by Samsung).
When the black case is open, the hinge protector protrudes as much as the part with the supportive 'leg', say 3 mm.
Material feels rubberised plastic, and the black one is pitch black color. I paid Ali shipping, and they sent the case by DHL, so 1 week to NL.
I never dropped Flip 3 5G or 4 ... the case (both) make the phone sit good in hand. Without a case ... both phones felt very 'slippery'.
It can fit, but it is slightly off and can press on one of the side buttons a little which may cause it to change the screen oddly like some kind of looping ( I read) so they removed the flip3 case from the flip4 and the looping stopped

I've found the bottom right lip of the top part of the case (below power button) doesn't grip the body properly so the case keeps pinging off. Really annoying Samsung haven't made one for the Flip 4. The closest I can find is from Latercase.
While the Flip 3 cases will fit, the charging port and flash do not completely align. Everything what seems to fit flawlessly.
They wouldn't make it 100% compatible at risk of losing precious $$
My official samsung leather flip 3 case while fits the flip 4 has volume rocker issues which render it useless. Not really caring as samsung offered 900 buck for it so I ended paying 150 for the flip 4 but it came with a rubbery case with a loop and I got the awesome bud pro 2, which is really what I wanted anyway, Gonna sell the flip 4 as I have an s22 ultra. I just wanted the buds.
