Nexus 5 screen broken - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The screen of my dear Nexus 5 broke yesterday from a 3 ft. fall. I never thought that the phone will not be able to sustain such a drop as this never happened with any of my earlier phones. The cost of replacement from LG service center is around 8000 INR which i think is a bit too steep for me considering that i have used the phone for around 1 year
This is a plea to anyone out there with a bricked phone / phone in not working condition but working display / faulty motherboard if possible to donate / sell me their phone so that i can use the display on my phone

You'll probably have to look elsewhere if you're asking to buy parts, it's against the rules on XDA since we have Swappa.
A quick Google search is probably the best way to find a replacement screen.

Or only buy the glass and repair it cheaper

Lol...

[Q] Repair or replace?

My N5 has a cracked screen (just the outer glass -- not the screen itself) and at my age I no longer have the eyesight, dexterity, or patience to do the repair myself. So I am looking at taking it to a repair shop and expect a sizable charge to replace the screen.
So if it's going to cost close to $200 for the repair, maybe I should just order a new one. Mine is a 32Gb, but I would be just as happy with a 16Gb model for $350 (I only got the 32Gb because that was what was still in stock on release day). I could then sell my cracked N5 to someone who could do the repair on the cheap and either have themselves a very nice phone or could resell it.
What could I get for a white 32Gb N5 with cracked front glass? $100? Maybe $150?
Searching around Ebay it looks like people are getting $150-180 for the 32GB model with a cracked screen. Just the screen seems to cost $130-$150, but I would take it to the repair shop and see what they would charge before making a decision.
What country are you in? Look for an LG repair store, they will do it for around $110 if I am not mistaking.

The only convenient repair shop wants $225, so I'll just go ahead and order a new one and then see what I can get for the cracked one.
Call LG I'm sure they will charge less than 200.
Supposedly lg charge 150 believe

$225 is crazy, surely an official LG centre will charge less

Must be REALLY convenient.
With the price of the Nexus 5, I think the cost of the repair is almost pointless...
Even if you don't quite break even with selling the broken one on eBay, you'll have a brand new device with a full warranty and one that wasn't dropped, opened and reassembled. I think you've made the right choice!

Yeah, I didn't realize that having a phone with a cracked screen is actually considered "cool" in some circles, so the ones going on eBay will probably not be repaired. This will work out OK for me and I'll end up with a new phone as you said.
Repair it !!

Cracked screen

Hello, so my situation is I just dropped my OPO two days ago and the screen is cracked and phone unusable (I am using my Galaxy SII skyrocket as a backup but it's pretty slow/can't handle much even even with Liquid smooth running on it). My OPO turns on and all but touch screen doesn't work. Anyways with the OnePlus Two supposedly coming out soon do you think I should wait and just buy that phone or should I pay to get my screen fixed or send it into insurance for a replacement and pay the $100 dollar deductible and they would send me a comparable replacement in this case she said the HTC One M8 and then I send them my phone after I receive the device from them. I don't know what the quality is of Asurion insurance replacement phones, I just assume that they were other peoples devices that were sent in and then "fixed up" by someone there. Also I looked here around town and the one place quoted me at $189 for the repair and that they don't stock the parts for the phone and so there a special order and it would take a few days for parts to arrive., I also checked at another place but they haven't responded back to me yet. So any ideas on what my best option is
1: Send it into Asurion pay $100 deductible and receive a One M8 or possbily Galaxy S5 if I ask for that one and they have one in stock (quality of there devices?)
2: pay a local repair shop to fix the screen (only quote as of this post was for $189) Edit I was also just quoted 135+Tax by another shop and again special order parts so it could take anywhere from a couple of days to a week or so for parts to arrive
3: Keep the device and just buy/wait for the OnePlus two and then sell this one for like 125-175 bucks on Swappa's Boneyard (Right now I see a 16GB model with cracked screen for sale at $150 on there and mines the 64 GB model but would need to figure out how to wipe the device 100% then if I do as the screen is unusable)

[Q] buying a replacement screen on ebay, recommended?

yesterday a disaster striked, i was riding my bicycle peacefully down the road with my oneplus on the handlebar using a bicycle cell phone mount, and then all of a sudden, the mount came off of the bicycle handlebar and right behind me was a car, my opo got ran over by it and, despite being in a case + tempered glass, the screen shattered really badly, touchscreen doesn;t work, though the screen still turns on and the phone still works just fine (can receive calls and chats, can still pair to my Moto 360) so i think it's only the screen that is broken
so just a while ago i called the oneplus warranty center in my country, asked them how much it would cost to replace the screen and they want 150 bucks for it, damn that is half the price of the entire phone...such a rip-off
and then i went to ebay and found dozens of oneplus one replacement digitizer+lcd, complete with tools for around 40-50 bucks, and most of the sellers have good ratings....but it just doesn't add up, oneplus wants 150 bucks for it while ebay sellers only want 40 bucks ?
are they selling fake screens ? (same shape but different resolutions and colors) or are they really legit?
has anyone ever bought one ? is it recommended ??
http://goo.gl/YqetrS
i really wanna buy it as its really cheap but i still have some doubts...either the screen isn't full hd or has poor colors..
i really don't feel like shelling out 150 bucks just to have the screen repaired, i might as well get a new phone then..but i still love my opo
thanks!
150 bucks includes the handing fees, anyway, OPO charges too much for it. The screen replacement costs about $70. I'd suggest this online seller: http://www.etradesupply.com/oneplus-one-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-black-24812.html and here is the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YYhGtk99Qw
Good luck!
i haven't bought from eaby, i heard that many sellers provide poor quality screen
Might end up being a pain and even taking a while but I'd give the eBay seller a try. You can ask the seller about it's quality beforehand. Use PayPal. If it's legit, cool you got a new cheap screen and that's the end of it. If it's not and the end the product doesn't match what the seller told you just open a dispute with paypal claiming you were ripped of and show up what the seller told you as proof. PayPal usually decides in favor of the buyer. I've even seen the buyer ending up with the product and the money in some cases.

I have a tmobile Samsung Galaxy Note for edge and I need some answers to a few questi

I dropped my phone the other day and it kinda of spider webbed it just at the top and I was wondering does anyone on here repair the LCD isn't broken. Because everything still works underneath the cracks like I said it's not much but it's enough to get a new screen and I was wondering if the XDA family could help me out with some prices, just throw me some prices out there so I have an idea
I smashed my in a parking lot about a month after I got it. Had to get the whole screen replaced and it cost me in the neighborhood of $350... Just the glass was broken but I couldn't find anyone that could just replace the glass on this phone. It ended up being a s*** show with a replaced chasis and 3 weeks to get it back. I recommend using insurance if you can.
350 for a screen repair?!! At that point, you might as well save up another 50 bucks and go to swappa and buy one. The Edge on Swappa now goes for 410-440 for T Mobile. It's cheaper for other brands. AT&T can get below 400 bucks
It wasn't in Dec of last year... but remember it's not a repair, it was a replace and ended up being a nightmare... Shop around, that wad just my horror story

$360 to fix a broken screen on Galaxy S7 Edge

On my way home from a great dinner with my wife on Valentine's Day, the phone holder on my wife's care slipped from the vent and my phone fell to the floor. We were almost home, so I just picked up the phone and brought it into the house when we arrived. About a half hour later, I went to use my phone and noticed the screen had cracked. I was bummed, but have to admit this was my first cracked screen. I figured I would have to pony up $100-$150 to get it fixed. I stumbled upon the ubreakifix website. When I called for a quote, they tell me it would cost me $359 to fix.
I don't carry insurance on our phones, as we have 4 lines. At $7-$11 per month per line, and a deductible of $79-$100 per incident, I didn't think insurance was worth the money. Since this is my first cracked screen, I have saved more than enough to just go out and buy a new phone, but I can't get over the cost to fix it. I wanted to bring this to the attention on this board. I am curious to know if others have fixed their screens, and what they paid. As of right now, I have called up my trusty HTC One M8 from the drawer back into action. Unless I can find a place to fix my screen at a reasonable cost, I will just wait for the S8 to come out in April.
Holy hell.
Add insurance and claim ?
Or buy a s7e on swappa

I got a mint, like new S7E on Swappa for that exact same price a month ago. You couldn't tell it wasn't new, it was that good for condition.
Does the phone work at all? If it is working but just has a cracked display, put on a screen protector and use it until the S8 is out. If it is totally not working, this does not help of course.
I would check to see if that person guarantees water resistance after replacing the glass. As far as I know, only Samsung and certified Samsung repair centers keep the water resistance in place.

The display doesn't work either, otherwise I would just keep using it.

I figured. Stinks, but going back to your old phone for a couple months (less than that now hopefully) until the S8 is available is the right play. I got this S7E to replace my Note 7, which is still the best phone ever made to date BTW, and the S7E is close enough to the N7 to get me through until the S8+ hits. My other option was to go back to my Note 4, which works fine but seems very dated after the Note 7, and this deal on this mint S7E was good enough that I took it. The S7E will be my backup phone once I get the S8+.

Have you called Samsung support? From what I'm reading it should only be $250 to have them fix it and they guarantee the waterproofing.

I didn't call Samsung support. To be honest, even $250 isn't worth it to me. If the S8 comes out, and I don't like it, then I will probably just fix the screen on my S7E. I don't mind using my M8 in the mean time. While it may not have all the features of the S7E, I think I actually prefer the size of the phone and the stereo speakers are good to have back.
Check with your local best buy as some of them have Samsung Certified repair centers in them that can change the screen for $160 bucks. Also Samsung can fix your device for $230 the last time I checked.
I used to be a Samsung Rep so that's how I know about the prices.
Yes. I had a badly damaged S7 Edge and samsung repaired it for $270. It works flawlessly with out any issues. It took them 7 business day to repair and ship it back
Quick look on eBay... screens are running about $250... $300 should be your repair price point... Honestly, when I see someone with a Galaxy anything phone come in for repair, I generally recommend just buying another one... sell your old one on eBay...
If you definitely want yours repaired, feel free to PM me... I'll repair for cost of parts plus shipping... (You are welcome to buy the parts and ship to me with a prepaid label... I would charge $0 for my work)... Not sure where you're located... but you could even bring it and wait while its repaired...

No offense to you or your work, but I wouldn't let anybody but Samsung or a true Samsung Authorized repair center work on an S7 or Edge because they're the only ones that guarantee the IP68 rating stays intact.

No offense taken... I often refer people out to Apple for 6S and 7 screens because Apple can repair them for about $100, whereas my screens come close to that price point alone... additionally, Apple won't give you a hard time later if there are other issues (FYI... you are legally allowed to take your equipment wherever you want to have it repaired, and that doesn't effect the warranty on the rest of your phone, but do not expect the manufacturer to warranty the replaced part... ) I have done the same with Galaxy phones are they are a pain in the ass to repair in a cost effective manner for the consumer...
