Hey guys,
The latest Sunshine build is out and it supports all new firmware for the HTC One E8, including the test build that was floating around a few days ago.
Check it out here
Update: They've release 3.0.3 to fix some unexpected errors.
Code:
Version 3.0.3
Fixed two "Unexpected Errors"
Fixed one SuperSu Hang
Fixed HTC CDMA TempRoot Crash
Fix paypal crash
Added Mini2/Remix (s400) support
Now supporting all 4.4.4 HTC
Now supporting all rootable 5.0.x HTC
SunShine - 3.0.1
SunShine is our bootloader unlock/s-off tool for Motorola and HTC phones. We currently support most HTC phones, and Moto X (2013), MotoG (2013) and Droid Maxx/Mini/Ultra. All modern HTC devices (m7 m8 e8 Mini2 remix dna etc) devices are supported up to 5.0.1, as long as they are rootable. SunShine can working without pre-rooting all 4.4.3 and below devices, and some 4.4.4 devices. 5.0.x uses will have to root with HTCDev.com. Verizon 5.0.x users will have to wait until we update.

why is it not? other devices it works fine.unless this device is unique, you only have issues writing to system while booted while the device is s on. once s off, stock kernel should not be an issue.
the only way to get rid of the red text(other than run a stock kernel and recovery) is to hex edit an hboot, basically replacing the text with all spaces. you can search other device forums, and send santod a message. he may hex edit an hboot for you. i personally dont mind the red text, but if you really want an hboot modified,id recomend to have santod do it. hes done several and can do it safely. if you screw up your bootloader, your device is effectively dead

Primarily because it doesn't have init.d support which some modders crave..
Personally, I find tinkering with the HBOOT very uncomfortable. I'd rather have an ugly red text than screw around with the HBOOT..[emoji15]
That being said, there are other ways to have init.d support as well.. Several apps in the Play Store can do it but the method they use isn't as efficient as a modded kernel..

i agree completely. i dont understand why folks have such a hatred of the warning. you see it for about 2 seconds on boot. its not like its a visible watermark on your home screen.
plus how often to people need to reboot? once or twice a day at most if your running something stable?

It's not hatred really but it is very ugly to look at.. Like REALLY ugly.. Especially if you're power-off charging.. REALLY UGLY! (Cannot emphasise more on the UGLY)

Seeing as this is Pinned and I See no point in creating a thread just to get it lost in the Cluster.
if you want to add this
All_IN_ONE.zip - 22.59 MB
To the OP for resources
its a zip containing drivers/recoveries/adb.exe/fastboot.exe and most importantly a nice script to allow end user to do anything booting different recovery, flashing different recovery, reboot tools, and steps and links on how to Root and S-Off
If you feel its useful add to OP, if not no hard feelings.

Yes please! I need this as well.
Asked in another thread and got a response from someone saying to get back to stock recovery you "do the same thing you did to get the custom recovery, just use the stock image instead".
Not so helpful without a link to a stock recovery image
Still hoping to find this somewhere.

Look through QBKings videos found here. Please note, his videos, on the M8, are all listed in the black box on the right.
All of his videos regarding the M8 can be found in this link. You may find what you need in his tutorials.
To unbox:
MOD edit: This thread is for videos on helpful how to's for this device. A unboxing video is nothing more then a review of the device.
Great Information
:good:
I'm wondering if "how to videos" that discuss rooting, custom recoveries, custom ROMs, etc. should also include a warning about accepting OTA updates?
Lots of Galaxy S3 and S4 users unknowingly accepted OTA updates to find their phones were now hopelessly locked down and no custom recoveries could be installed.
I personally believe ALL carriers want their phones locked down securely and do NOT want anyone to be able to mod a phone in any way and with this belief comes the thought that any phone such as the M8 will sooner or later receive an OTA that will lock the bootloader.
A warning about OTAs couldn't hurt anything...
Hi ppl, looking into how to threads, I am still looking for a way to disable SIM from unknown source msg on my m8, how can I do that?

Dev Edition Firmware is known to work well with AT&T, therefore it should be set to go for any curious AT&T users out there (I currently do, and plan on flashing later tonight.)
As well, OP, if you don't mind I'm gonna look at odexing system apps for ease in theming, if you don't mind. Great work!

Can this rom with my one m9 UK?
If someone wants to test this, I removed the am/pm from the status bar. If all goes well and that works, I'll begin modifying a lot of things.
Note: I don't have a flashable zip for this, so reboot into recovery and manually place it in /system/priv-app/systemui. I deodexed this file, therefore you should delete the .odex file in system/priv-app/systemui/arm. If that doesn't work, keep the .odex file. Goes without saying,: I'm not responsible for breaking things, make a backup, etc. etc. You all know what you're doing, I'm just modding blindly in class right now and can't test. Anyway. Let me know.
As well, I modified the height of the navbar to make it smaller, working on fixing the gap issue in the dialer. I'll upload the framework later.

CAUTION with 5.1.1 UpdateG925PVPU2B0F7I've been spending some time reading T-mobiles issues with the update. This isn't a super new conversation, but is probably new to many Sprint users. The update appears have rollback protection, which effects both kernel and bootloader from what they are saying... Which I find slightly confusing since I didn't think that their was a locked bootloader on the US versions (maybe someone can assist with that)
Figured we could start the conversation early for Custom Root/Recovery/etc. users, so that we may save some of us some trouble with Soft/Hard brinks in the next week or so.
This is the thread I've been looking at.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6-edge/general/psa-odin-5-1-1-t3136151
EDIT:
NO, the bootloader is not locked with the 5.1.1 update.
Rather, "Factory Reset Protection" (an Android thing - not a Samsung thing!) is now an option, which allows you to lock the bootloader yourself, protecting your device from someone installing a custom recovery, wiping your device and making it their own. It makes the device somewhat less valuable, and therefore (supposedly) less likely to be stolen.
The 5.1.1 upgrade looks to be a "permanent" upgrade, meaning we're not able to revert back to 5.0.2 kernels and recoveries.
So, I would suggest to sit tight with your current set up. In order to customize our devices we will need to wait for:
A) Root for 5.1.1
-Root has been achived: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...elopment/5-1-1-stock-of7-kernel-root-t3153396
B) Samsung to post the source code for the new kernel.
C) Custom Recovery
-Recovery has been achived:
Once we have the above, we can get back to modding our devices.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Interesting article, I remember several other older Samsung devices where you could not downgrade bootloaders and modems. IE Galaxy S3, note 3, s5. But there was still root, Roms and the ability to flash kernels. Hopefully there's no need to go back anyway. The kernel thing is something new so I may hold off on upgrading. Thanks for the info

This is my first Samsung, so the whole root recovery process was almost too smooth since I've been on the HTC side for 5 years. Unlocking bootloaders, S-off and requesting tokens to push.. Ugh, as must as I likes HTC and Sense, that sucked.
I think I'm holding off as well, untill Sac23/ Ram9200 might have spare time to look over the update first and make sense of it all and could at least get it to where V.2 is right now. But it sounds like the Kernel could be our hold up, without Hybridmax's current support.

Yea but based off of my years of experience and having Samsung devices, I'm pretty sure that someone will find a way moving forward, but going back probably won't happen. I too had an HTC evo years back lol and I couldn't stand the root process. I feel your pain. But yea it may be wise just to wait for a while on the update

A9 owners speak up!! This is for all A9 owners and would be A9 owners who would love to see development of AOSP and CM based ROMS. GPE port from the M8 and any other ROMS. As well custom Kernels like ElementalX. Thanks to @jcase we have S-off, modified boot image for disabling forced encryption and allowing root and @Chainfire we have SuperSu and @Captain_Throwback and @Dees_Troy we have TWRP. A million thanks to all involved in the development so far. Also love to hear from developers! Progress, status updates etc etc

Well, one thing I don't like is that it now requires your pattern or pin to unlock the device after a reboot where as before after a reboot it would unlock with the just the finger print reader It can now read the new 6.0.1 emoji-cons but still cant send them. They just don't show up in the keyboard. I want to pop my verizon SIM into it and see if anything changed there. Still testing otherwise. Haven't noticed that much else.

Soo, no changes on verizon.. Still shows LTE logo with no bars and LTE data works but to voice or text. With AT&T however, VoLTE seems to now be working on all calls, not just other users on AT&T on iPhone 6's and 6s's which is very exciting!! LTE works during all phone calls.. See screen shots.
What about a bounty for a custom rom ?

Of course!! I wasn't doubting that I was looking to see what kind of support for it was out there and judging by the posts here there is very very little

A9 owners speak up!! This is for all A9 owners and would be A9 owners who would love to see development of AOSP and CM based ROMS. GPE port from the M8 and any other ROMS. As well custom Kernels like ElementalX. Thanks to @jcase we have S-off, modified boot image for disabling forced encryption and allowing root and @Chainfire we have SuperSu and @Dees_Troy we have TWRP. A million thanks to all involved in the development so far. I would just love to get a feel for how many users out there are waiting for and would help support the development of custom ROMS and kernels! Let the wishful thinking be heard :good:
Also love to hear from developers! Progress, status updates etc etc

I thought I was the OP of the A9 TWRP thread, not @Dees_Troy?
(or course without him, we wouldn't have TWRP at all)
I'm surprised there aren't at least any stock rooted ROMs floating around the Development forum. I did post one earlier today in someone else's thread, but I'm not sure how much exposure that's going to get. As far as AOSP ROMs go, the good thing is that there is a bit less Sense on the A9 than on previous devices (more like a GPE device), so hopefully that'll make porting CM to it less cumbersome.

Yes, of course!! my bad. Its why I have the little thing at the end that says (thanks to "all" involved in the development so far) not trying to take credit from anyone!!
Yes, I definitely appreciate the more stock google look and feel of the A9 but its no substitute for a pure GPE or CM ROM!
Hello XDA!
I've been watching HTC One a9 Android Development since I got my a9 in November. Once I got it unlocked and started looking for a rom to suit my needs I realized: there weren't any. I've worked on building a custom Sense based (but Senseless ) rom for about a month now. As there are very few roms for the a9 (CM being the only one I know for sure about) I decided to share. Due to my incredibly low post count I'm not allowed to post in the development thread (mods / admins, please move this to a9 Android Development if possible, if it is not allowed here my apologies)

Using Vaiarom is done AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Vaiarom requires an unlocked bootloader and s-off.
Vaiarom is designed for hiaeul, though I'm sure converted devices (like mine) as well as supercid devices will work.
Jeremy Vaias (me) will not be held responsible for any problems that might arise when installing Vaiarom.
I worked on this in my spare time and do not have the abilities (yet) to create something more wonderful.
That said, this is my contribution to the community.
Vaiarom is my take on HTC's version of Android. In need of a more 'open' operating system I've removed almost everything from Google and quite a few HTC apps. Gone is the Play Store - replaced by the FDroid repository. Likewise most of Google's default apps have been replaced with alternatives from the FDroid repository.

SuperSU
Busybox
AdAway
Catapult

OpenVPN

Nice!!!
Rom development is finally kickin!
Can you please post the FW build number and if it's based on European or US?
Did you replace the stock message app? If yes can we put back the stock one?

Yes the stock messaging app is removed. It can be added to the zip before install or installed afterward. This is built on the US Unlocked version of the base software. Build number has been added to thread title.

I highly doubt anyone will develop anything for this device on the 6.0.0 base. Sunshine is a worthy investment.

I'm not paid by sunshine, I had to pay them to be able to update my phone to 6.0.1.
Idk if you know about this, but I found your op pretty much copy pasted to this website http://www.iraq99.com/vb/t10596599.html

Hello. I am trying it. But i can not open Personize under Settings. So i can not enable Hide Nav Bars.
What is the Name of the Lockscreen which you have integrated?
I'm pretty sure Personalize not working is a direct result of removing something related to Sense home. The lockscreen is just android's built in version. All I did was remove the HTC lockscreen. I'm going to attempt to get this working with an aroma installer so that everyone can keep (or remove) whatever they'd like.
