[Q] Will Custom ROMs allow the Lollipop Camera API to work? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today was a day of bad news. I just read this article and apparently the Lollipop update does not bring the new camera API to the Xperia Z1/2/3 series. I could cry!
Now I was wondering, since Custom ROMs can alter so much for a device, whether they can enable the camera API even though Sony doesn't. It would be awesome if there's a developer who could manage to do this - if at all possible of course. I was planning on making a video of these potential new camera controls, but I was surprised to see that Sony just didn't allow the API to be used (I don't know the technical details so correct me if I'm wrong about the actual phrasing there).
Do you have any thoughts on this? Are you a developer, and do you have any experience with this or similar APIs? I for one have no idea if it can be made to work with the Xperia Z1/2/3's camera at all. I'd love to know! :highfive:

I'm not entirely impressed with the camera either, and can't believe we have waited this long for Sony to release the lollipop update, which not only doesn't improve the camera, but its also just 5.0.. i thought the whole delay in the lollipop update was due to the initial quirks in the 5.0 build meaning they would roll out 5.1?
At this point in the game with the competition you cannot be releasing flagships marketed as the worlds best camera which is actually very mediocre. I'm truly disappointed in Sony and will likely not be holding on to my Z3 for much longer.
As it stands, have you tried the 20mp SuperiorAuto xposed module? I have seen quite a significant improvement, if you can live with the occasional crashes...

[Q] Camera on AOSP ROMs

Hi,
I'm planning to buy Xperia Z3. I really like this phone but I've read here that camera on AOSP ROMs has this fisheye bug because Sony hasn't released sources for the camera yet.
Is there any hope that Sony will release them? And can this problem be fixed someday without relying on Sony?
Also does Z2 have this problem? If not, is it because Sony released sources for the Z2 or somebody just figured out how to solve it?
Z3 and Z2 have the same camera (almost) so if this problem is fixed for one it should be fixed for the other, right?
No one?
No one has released source code for mm-camera and no OEM ever will, because it's Qualcomm proprietary.
Unfortunately, Sony's newer blobs have had issues in the past. The end result is that the entire rhine/shinano family (Z1, Z2, Z3) are all using 4.3 rhine camera blobs. The distortion profile of the Z1 blobs is wrong for the Z3.
There are two potential solutions:
1) Some progress was made on getting newer stock blobs to work, but this was put on hold because
2) The Sony AOSP internal team are working on creating a set of blobs that can be used with AOSP proper. Although I'll personally be resuming work on item 1 in the next week or two if the Sony guys don't have any concrete news by then, as I need a working camera for Photospheres in early September

Thanks a lot. That was very informative.
Does this mean that if it gets fixed before Sony releases the new blobs, it will be fixed for the entire Z family?

how many use Kzoom

Who visits here looking for tweaks ?
Me, thats 1 anyone else ? add your thumbs up :good: here if you come here looking for development Maybe we might get more interest
Get your names down please !
I visit for custom roms. Currently using note 4 mini (slim) by ddaemen. Would love it if we could get a lollipop rom so that this baby could get manual focus and shoot RAW photos which will be possible with camera2 api.
lollipop
I really want to have lollipop for k zoom . Only way is port from note 3 neo i guess ?:good:
I am also there from time to time, looking for a custom rom
Hi, i visit Xda from the first day i got the K Zoom ( oct 2014 ) but now is the first time i am posting something. I am looking for development, hoping that someone will bring the Lollipop with the Raw support for the K.
And by the way, i am that guy that made on Youtube the cleaning video for the K's camera.
Same here,
I've been searching in here for any real working Lite Lollipop ROM since the first time I got my KZ C111. I wish to use it with Camera2 API.
I wonder how to get Samsung attention to develop better ROM for KZ any idea?
Got one today!.
Sad to see no proper forum.

I am also there, looking for a custom rom
I have a S5Z, but given up the hope for updates long ago.
Next phone will be Zenfone Zoom, hope it gets 6.0 before EoL
Zoom camera phones are just too niché
I just got this device as a back up phone for my note edge. I seems to be interested to weird looking phones lol
Any cfm Lollipop for a K Zoom SM-C115 ??
i'm visiting xda time to time to check custom rom developpement for the K-Zoom (so sad that the stock rom is so buggy (radio/modem and reactivity are the two big issues on my phone...). Back on the S4 for about two months because of these problems (phone not waking up on incoming calls, etc.) but i love my k-zoom !

What? Why are you talking about Asus Zenfone?. It has NOTHING on KZ!.
would be so cool to have raw on this phone :/ but it's dead in the water eitherway and the zoom mech breaks, but I guess every lens does.

SONY Bad Android 9 Pie

We should let SONY know that the current Android 9 Pie is the worst lazy treatment since the SONY upgrade system.
Xperia XZ3,Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium, XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact, XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus, which can be upgraded to Android 9 Pie, should be displayed to tell SONY about the Android 9 Pie experience.
For details, please go to the Xperia Support Forum.

Whats so bad about the experience? Explain yourself here, you took the time to post here.
Pie has better battery than Oreo, faster boot/smoother running, camera works without drm patch, root works on stock kernel, should I go on? Slight rotation glitch is about all ive found wrong.

Let the user wait for a long time, Pie is finally updated.
The update found that it is very different from the Android 9 Pie we know.
SONY's Android 9 Pie seems to be android oreo 8.1 experience
We lack many important features
No New-System-Navigation & Digital Wellbeing & Slice & actions
There is no change in the Setting UI.
Perhaps SONY developers should refer to what is Android 9 Pie
This is just a waste of time for the XPERIA XZ2 participating in the Android 9 Pie test.
Other complaints
1.Always on display Why not do a unified drop to all Android 9 models only XZ2 series
2.No. There is still no port Systemui with new clock (XZ Premium, XZ1, XZ1 Compact)
3.GOOGLE active marketing developers should have a dark theme
The dark theme that our sony music APP and Sony Album APP already have.
But should the apps used by Sony Phone, Sony Contacts, and Sony Mobile SupportXperia keyboards also include the dark theme option?

I agree, pie is good, in terms of technical stuff.
In terms of user experience its not smoother than oreo. Rotation isnt smooth, neither is going back and forth in apps especially whatsapp, and lil more smoothness problems.
Do I prefer oreo? Probably not, is pie alot better? Also not.
If this update is as smooth as oreo, id say yes it is a lot better.
But its not, plus we aint got recents panel like other pie running devices, no navigation bar, no change in UI, smoothness got worse, i cant seem to find a difference between HDR photo and non HDR phone in camera app, battery isnt better, there are some more glitches like some notifications get cut in half when sliding the notification bar, thats what i can remember, im sure there is more that I forgot.
Again Pie isnt bad and in some cases like the technical stuff its better than oreo, but in most cases especially the UX, its worse.
Either that or your device is super xz premium and not a normal one or some of us got bad xz premium devices from sony.

I don't understand why people are complaining, oreo had problems and after updates they we're fixed so just wait

You asked for why people think its not good i gave an answer, im pretty sure sony will do its best to deliver the best for us through future updates.
Still disappointed with the fact that we dont have android pie nav bar or recents panel...
Pie 9 - best
After I received android 9 PIE, my Sony Xz1 dual sim G8342 works more quickly, smoothly and battery saving energy.
What I like very much about PIE it is transition on diplay from one screen to another in apps or settings, power off menu, volume menu, clock on top left side.

You are wrong, don't agree with you, because battery on pie MORE faster loses a charge, and may be in some place pie interface looks some faster then oreo, for example widget of business calendar on desktop on oreo already appeared on a desktop and in pie he load 30 sec or more....
upd: may be pie firmware only for xzp is worst, and on other new sony models pie firmware better...
On my side the battery can be used around 3 days with Pie

[Q] What is the future of the XZ Premium?

Hey guys,
I'm running the XZ Premium and I'm absolutely loving this device.
Since it's 2 years anniversary is just around the corner I have some question and maybe long time Sony fans and modders can answer me.
WIll we get Android 10? I'm interested in photography and getting RAW/30 sec exposure from Xperia 1 with/without the Android 10.
Has anyone tried the AOSP ROM on his XZP? Benefits? Downsides? What is working and what not? Does it have the full camera2 api compatibility? Is it expected to get AOSP 10 if we don't get the official update?
Is the DRM backup expected in the foreseeable future?

About the future of Cinema Pro app

I'll admit the only reason I am interested in this phone is because of that app.
Do you think it is possible that in the future it'll be ported to older Sony phones, or released/modified as an open source on any other capable phone?
Or it's a good chance this app will be unique to this phone and if I want it I should just buy the phone.
Thanks.
High possibility that it can't be ported, because no other Sony phone has three lens. In the event that it is ported, it most likely won't have the same experience as the Xperia 1 itself.
Very slim chance it will be ported to other phone other than newer xperias later than Xperia 1
for the meantime, u can shoot flat footage using filmic pro app (paid) and color grading using vsco cam
