Adreno 305 and 225 should be about the same performance level. Your phone has more ram and a better cpu as mine. Only point is that my phone is highly customized and 120% bloatware ware.
BUT are you serious, you want to choose your new phone depending on if you can play a 11 years old computer game on it?! For android there is no guarantee that ANY game runs as it should. My friend's crappy Galaxy S4 actually chrashes while playing "CandyCrush" ...

For sure the Desire 816 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 and Adreno 305 when you're about gaming. It provides a much better performance than the Mediatek MT6582 chip.

guys..which one is faster and more powerful..Mali-400 or Adreno220 ??
my sensation running Android Revolution HD.. CPU overclocked to 1.5GHz and GPU overclocked..
i can't get scores like GS2 (stockROM) or better than him !!
If I'm not mistaken, the Areno 220 can push 1080p stereoscopic 3D.
The question is whether the manufacturers wrote drivers to help with the hardware acceleration, which is what Samsung did with the Exynos-Mali400. =)

Mali-400 MP4 is better.
i have htc Sensation and i think Mali-400 is more powerful and faster
i installed Fruit Ninja HD Crazy (modded version to get alot from fruit in arcade mod) so in htc Sensation even with overclock i get lag..in SGS2 without custom rom it's so smooth
in quadrant i use advanced edition in 2D always i get like 330 and 3D i get from 600 to 1000 with overclock..in SGS2 without anything in 2D get 800 and 3D 1200 !!!

Is the Adreno 225 GPU up to the task?

Since we dont have the Tegra 3 Geoforce GPU for the fancy gaming, how is the new Adreno 225 handling high end games? Im interested to see if it plays Modern Combat 3 smoothly since my las phone (HTC Vivid 4.0 ICS) choked making it lag. If anyone has high end / graphically intensive games, please post the name and if it plays smoothly, decent, or lags, so the rest of us has an idea of what to expect. Thanks

Only benches slightly lower then the tegra3, but with the extra power from the cpu I would say it balances out.

My older evo 3d with the adreno 220 had no problem with modern combat 3.. No lag whatsoever. 225 should be good for that and more

The 225 and the 220 are basically the exact same, with DirectX support added to the 225. What makes the 225 in the S4 more powerful than the 220 used in many devices such as the evo 3d and the hp touchpad is the higher clock. Thanks to the 28nm process, the adreno can be clocked at 400mhz rather than 266. Nearly double.

Soo, at what clock did HTC set adreno 225 at? Cause in S3 adreno 220 could perform at 320MHz, yet HTC underclocked it
Also have u tried playing Tegra 3 version of Shadowgun and Glow ball on it? How was the framerate?

I think THD games are blocked in the market from installing on non Tegra devices.
I have played a few high end games and I have had no issues. I had a lot problems with Grand Theft Auto in the past. Some devices I had in the past played it but the game would be slower than it should be. With the LTE One X it played GTA on the highest settings without any issue. I played Ride Racer I think its called with the Jet skies and that played and looked great. Although my Galaxy Nexus played that game great too. I played Shadow Warrior with no problem either.
I'm not sure if I'm going to keep my One X though. It works great but I hate how locked down it is. I was spoiled by my Galaxy Nexus.

i dont know about everyone else.. but it lags on temple run. fps drops when boosted, significantly.. sometimes when taking a turn it lagged so bad that my directional swipes are not even registered.
Do you think we could compile a list of graphically intensive games to test our handsets with?

Just played Temple Run for 15 minutes straight, no lag whatsoever. Literally runs as good on my One X as it did on my iPhone 4S.
Modern Combat 3 runs pretty good as well, I have only noticed a couple very very slight stutters in about 2 hours of playing the campaign.
How did you get modern combat running? I can't even download it from market to be denied by the not compatible message lol

Clocks are only 50% up but memory bandwidth which holding the 220 back is doubled. Meaning in practice the 225 is usually 60% - almost double of the 220 performance. Even my adreno 205 handles all games play with ease. 225 is frankly overkill for existing games at the moment. However the tegra3 and samsungs mali400 are far ahead when comes to decoding flash videos on youtube desktop page. They play 1080p flawlessly while the adreno 225 chokes on 480p.

They were probably using Chainfire 3D. It allows you to trick games and the market into thinking you have a tegra.

its not that the 225 cant handle 1080p it sure can its just its just not being utilized properly due to crappy drivers/lack of proper hardware acceleration

It can be due to the reasons you mentioned but it does not really matter. What we want is the end result and its not delivering in terms of flash performance.

Get the galaxy s3. Trust me. You will regret not getting it! In america, it has 1.5 GHz processor with 1 gig of ram. It's also quad core. Everywhere else in the world, it's 1.5 GHz with 2 gigs of ram. This one is dual core. This is currently the greatest phone available.
REMEMBER TO SAY THANKS IF I HELPED OR INSPIRED YOU IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, the american version of the S3 has a dual-core and 2GB of RAM. The international version is the one with the quad-core and 1GB of RAM.
As for a gaming mobile, I guess the S3 would be a great choice. And there is also the Xperia Play, which is more like a real gaming cellphone and there are many games optimized for it, including PlayStation games. But I think it has a single core processor.

Not true. tegra games actually make themselves play worse or with worse graphics when they detect you are not using a tegra CPU. If you trick the game into believing your processor is a tegra, then it will play with all the spoils.

Adreno 225 at 720p and mali400?

Hey guys was hoping you could help me out since I am a big newbie when it comes to the mobile world
I am looking to buy a new phone, and one of the phones I've choosen to buy has adreno 225, 1.5ghz krait and 720p 4.7" screen (its the pantech (or SKY) a830l ).
Was hoping you guys could help me and let me know which games and/or apps (if any) I wont be able to run because of gpu bottle-neck on this resolution, and how future proof the adreno 225 will prove to be..
additionally, my alternative choice is htc One X
One X is almost twice the price of the pantechm , so I want to know whether its really worth it in terms of cpu and gpu power (ignoring the better screen for a bit).
Also, I've noticed that many 'very' powerful cell phones have mali400 (including galaxy note (1) and SIII). I've heard people say that adreno 225 is better than mali400 AND that SIII outperforms in games cell phones with much more powerful graphics card. So now im really confused. Am I missing something?

mali 400 easily outperforms adreno 225... that's why it is in galaxy s3
and it has capability upto 4 cores so it is better
more comparable to it would be adreno 320!
the "pantech" one is a good choice if pricing suits you! You'll be able to play many games but i assume 1.5 ghz krait is either dual/quad core!! If yes you are good to go!

thanks for the reply, really appreciate the clarification.
Ive seen a couple of benchmarks but benchmarks are just benchmarks. Based on current games an apps, how many games and apps are there that wont be able to run because of the gpu? and can you give me some examples? hope I'm not asking too much
the pantech 830 is Super IPS LCD 720p (4.8"), krait dual core 1.5ghz and adreno 225
Samsung galaxy Note (N7000) is Super Amoled 720p (5.3"), cortex A-9, mali400, about 25% more expensive than the pantech
HTC One X is about twice the price of the pantech (and I really doubt I need the quad core)

Well the pantech phone will run almost all games.. Games which have state of the art graphics like nova3,wild blood and latest nfs, asphalt releases might be a problem.. But those can also be made working by rooting and enabling hardware acceleration

Sorry to say this, but GTA SA is completely unplayable on your device. You have a device with a Snapdragon 400 CPU which is very low end by today's standards, your phone is definitely not powerful. You'll need a device with at least a Snapdragon 600 series CPU for a smoother experience.
Of all phones, why did you pick the Zenfone Go? For the same price or cheaper you can get a Xiaomi Redmi 3 Note Pro which has a Snapdragon 650.
Try lowering the graphical settings a bit. If it's even possible.
i lowered the settings as possible and its horrible but it gives me more fps thanks btw

I played GTA SA smoothly on single core 1ghz sp8810 processor.(mali 300 gpu)
I don't think there's a problem with processor.
Maybe there's a problem with the game or how he handles his phone.(maybe he has a lot of apppp installed which consumes huge ram)

well it is surprising that it runs very smooth even on high graphics on my nokia 3 (which is cheaper than redmi notes 3 btw) but it terribly lags on my redmi 4a which has a better processor with higher clock speeds
i think the issue is that gta san andreas isnt optimised for snapdragon SoCs and only for meditek
