Hello,
I bought a nexus s 1 month ago and i am very satisfied but i have an issue with the wifi...
I am 1.5 meters away from my rooter and i get only the 3 of 4 bars.I only get 4 bars when my phone is 2 cm away from rooter...When i go like 10 meters away i hardly get one bar...The signal compared to my htc wildfire is incomparable. Is there a fix? Please help me!!!!
Thanks in advance!
I am on 2.3.4
Unfortuantely I don't think so. I get slightly better results using Oxygen rom but I'm rooted and s-off so I can tweak mine a little bit more. ( unless you are rooted) my evo got great wifi my ns lacks a strong radio I think because of nfc they cut down strength

I thought wifi was their best point....Are we sure that isn't a software problem???
I doubt its software because like I said I get better results on other roms but its nothing really truly noticeable. I may be wrong if someone can correct me please do because like every other ns owner I dont wanna think Sammy and Google ripped me

Ok, So I just got this device last Friday. It was perfectly fine with full bars, I ended up rooting and flashing the Viper Rom and its been my daily since. Now I still had full bars and everything still seemed fine. Just within the last few days my connection has started fluctuating between one bar, two bars, or it'll just have an X over the signal.
I know I flashed the ROM correctly using the appropriate steps, but I thought maybe it was the ROM itself so I tried a few others and still my signal is weak. I've tried several different radios and nothing seems to get my signal steady again. It's a real annoyance because once I leave my house I have no signal.
I did get one idea but I'm not sure how much it'll help. When I received my device I immediately rooted and flashed a ROM. Not sure if I even had the latest OTA update. So I was thinking relocking my bootloader and flashing the appropriate RUU and getting the OTA update would help my situation out.
But other than that I'm pretty clueless and very frustrated. Here's what I'm talking about in screen shots I took.
try to remove the sim card and reinsert...I`ve had this problem once, even if I was on stock rom...solved with this method
Which radio are you on? Try to update it.

Since they told you that--exchange it
Others have done that and reported marked increase in reception and overall performance

Yeah definitely my plan. I just hate knowing this is a common issue with the device.

Agreed, I had poor reception with both my HTC phones on TMobile. Other was the Nexus One. Not saying mine is BAD, just not happy with spotty coverage--
May be trying Verizon next--More $ though--
I had no signal all Friday. My mom has no signal today. T-Mobile is modifying their network, give it a day. Unless this has been going on for a few days

I too had horrible signal strength. Talked to the girl at the T-Mobile store and they're sending me a refurbished one. Hopefully this one works.

Hey,
Sometimes my Nexus shows there is no cell/range coverage in your area but when I search for network and register on my network, cell/signal come back to full, this happens randomly most likely in night, it's getting on my nerves. I'm running on Kitkat 4.4.2 stock rom and kernal and I've had no problems in 4.4.
Anybody else get this problem ? or any ideas to get rid of this other than flash to Kitkat 4.4.
I'm from India and using Vodafone network.
I'm noticing the same here in Italy... seems to happen only when under 2G

Yes exactly. Anyone else ?
Here I'm in Sri Lanka, experiencing random drops in 2G signals. I'm using the D820

Same here in Costa Rica. The connection is pretty stable, but sometimes I suddenly lose it and comes back after a few seconds.
Don't remember seeing the signal changing to 2G. I'll pay more attention to it and report.
Welcome to the club
seems to be software related. cm 11 seams to fiy it, but i never tried myself. same here in germany. d821, cataclysm 4.2.2, modem .15 and t-mobile. i tried each modem but the (old) .15 one give me the best results.
btw with cataclysm and bricked kernel with undervolting i have 6-7 hours screen on time. i dont think the battery is not good enough...
It should come out of the box stock with that battery without roms or kernels.
Idk why ppl complain about the nexus battery so much maybe they need to put their phone away for two seconds so they could save some battery

If they did that people like dicecuber wouldn't have anything to complain about on the xda forums especially when they have to make a signature about the nexus 5 battery.
Ps: He makes the same forum post with slightly different words but all the same complaining.

That's how mine is with this issue. I only have signal now at home and random parts throughout town. At my job, which is just about 5 miles away, I went from having full bars H+ (T-Mobile) to having no data at all. I swapped my SIM into my co-workers phone, I get signal just as I did with all my previous phones. I used to have great signal at work until the issue arose. I ordered a Note 3 to not have to deal with this anymore. It was great while it lasted.

In all seriousness, have you tried different radios? I mean, like flashing the radio.img from the 4.4, 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 releases? Apparently the 4.4.1 radio wasn't as good as the original so I've stuck with the KRT16 radio the whole time while I'm on Omni 4.4.2.

I flashed every radio in the modem thread, flashed back to stock and installed the OTA updates, and I still have no data except for home and random places while driving.

I wouldn't feel the need to log in to find a solution. I'd definitely be not be posting on this board. Blame google
Same problem here in Austria. Running my N5 with Purity (KitKat 4.4.1) on elementalX kernel.
Too bad. Otherwise, the phone is great.
Well i get full bars coverage at home and everywhere i go in the south of the Netherlands. I thought the N5 radio is much better than the ones of the N4 which we`re weaker for me. Stock and not rooted.
The radio quality of my N5 actually IS very good. It is just sometimes for a few seconds, that there i no signal at all. After 10 seconds, there is full radio again.

Is it so hard to understand? 99,9 % of the time, I have better radio reception with the N5 than with all my previous devices. But sometimes, about twice a day, there is no radio reception at all for some seconds, which is annoying and I hope to find a solution for that, as I am pretty sure that it is software related. I hope this was understandable now.
Hi, of late I have been using the CleanROM 7.0R2 for my AT&T HTC One X. It worked well for the first 2 or 3 days. Then I observed signal drop outs very frequently. Sometimes, the phone keeps on restarting on it own and sometimes the signal never comes, Please find me a solution to this problem, Thank you.
Same situation

Hello
With the final version of lolipop I have a lot of lost cell signal in place where I usually can phone without problem.
I think the new baseband 2.0.50.2.21 is horrible for me.
So can I flash the last radio of KitKat with lolipop?
Thanks

I don't see why it won't work, go for it, but at the same time be careful, back up your data, I've flashed radios for different versions of kit Kat on my nexus 5 before, but never from another version of Android.
Let us know how it turns out!

What does the exclamation mark mean? Mine always has it apart from when I am connected to WiFi.

Just flash the Last kitkat radio all is fine. I'll see if the reception is better.
I'm having the same issue. Since I bought a used rooted N5 and who knows what they did to that KitKat build, the OTA update to Lollipop didn't work for me. So I flashed a full stock image of Lollipop LRX21O from Google's servers last night.
I don't recall ever losing signal in my home, but it currently is going from a full signal to complete signal dropout for minutes at a time. Was doing it in another location across the city this morning, so I know it's not a tower issue.
Please let me know if you find a stable radio that works with this build. Thanks!

I'm having the exactly same issue in Chicago with T-Mobile. I'm so annoyed that I cannot make a call or data is either very slow or keeps dropping out. I'm not sure where the problem is from.

I'm still at home and I don't know if the last kitkat radio have the same performance on lollipop but I have 0 problem till now.
The link where I found the radio is http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095
I have installed this KTU84Q (4.4.4 Release 2).
I'll make a feedback next week.

Argh, flashed this last night. All seemed well for about 18 hours, then I have had several episodes of signal dropout this afternoon.
I'm actually seeing the opposite from you guys. Ever since I flashed the stock lollipop ROM and new radio, I've seen signal boost in places where it was terrible before. I would get horrible signal in my house. I now get a steady 2 bars, and my LTE hasn't cut out once. I guess its a Your Mileage May Vary type of thing.
I was on stock KitKat 4.4.4 before. I am with T-Mobile if that makes any difference.
Im another one wit signal issue I have horrible dropouts out of network, for about a minute with new lollipop radio
the worst part I don't have custom recovery any more to flash older baseband,
I'm from Europe. Is there any work around in settings or so please let me know.
