So my Nexus 5 suddenly started charging very slowly. I checked the battery in settings, and it said it was USB charging. I have it plugged into a wall charger, so it should say AC, and be charging normally. Why is it doing this? How do I change it back to AC? Is there an app, or a way to force it to charge AC? I am rooted if that helps.
Could just be a dirty usb port on phone or the charger or the cable had gone wonky.
Try to clean the ports and cable ends(unplugged and off) or try a different cable.

What is the recommended method to charge the new battery?
Charging over usb is better than wall outlets?
The electricity that comes from a wall plug is being transformed to the same voltage as USB. So it doesn´t really matter which method you use.
A advice in general: Discharge your battery completely from time to time, so the battery gauger gets reseted and displays the battery percentage correctly.
I don't even use my wall charger... still sealed in the plastic. I charge my phone using USB on my PC, and a DC to USB adapter in my car.
I thought because a charge over usb is slow, it will be better.
Hello,
I didn't use my tablet since 2 month and last week, i installed team EOS 4.2.2 JB rom.
After, my cable did'nt worked, When i tried to conect it to my computer, there was an error message that the tablet wasn't detect correctly.
And when i put the cable into the charger and the table to charge on the wall, i saw the icon on the right corner of the tablet charging but in the information battery, i sax that "Disconect" and the tablet % didn't grow up.... So i thought the cable was dead and i bouth one new on ebay.
With the new cable, no problem the tablet was detect and the charging with the charger was good. But after 2 days, i had new problems.
when i conect the tablet on my laptop, all is OK, the tablet is detect normally. But whn i try to charging with the charger on the wall, the tablet doesn't charge. I see the icon in the right corner is charging but in the battery informations, i see "disconect" again and the battery doesn't charge.
Yesterday, i saw a topic that i can put the charger on the freezer, i put it alle the night and i tried this morning but nothing the tablet does'nt charge.
On the charger, there is 2 parts, I open the little part with removing a screw and i tried to little move the 2 metal parts but nothing alwas the same problem.
So i think now the problem is not the new cable but the charger.... I know it's a specific voltage and if i try with my HTC ONE X charger, this will not work...
But maybe it's a problem with the tablet connect port?
I changed the rom and i installed the Cyanogen 4.2.2 this morning, and now when i conect the cable, with the computer, it's OK i see my tablet but the icon on the table isn't charging and i see "disconect in the battery information". And with the charger wall, it's the same, i have charge icon and i have disconect in the battery information
Do you think i must buy a new charger?
Sorry for my poor English my French
Try a trickle charge from the USB PC > Tablet
Plug the tablet cable into PC USB port and turn off the screen, then leave to trickle charge overnight
If you have the screen on it will not charge, so best to leave it off for a few hours to test if it is a charger problem

When you use PC USB to charge, it will not show charging on the screen, you have to leave it overnight for best test results
The freezer trick should only be used for about 20 minutes just to cool the charger down and reset the cutout
Try trickle charge overnight, if it works, its the charger
I think this is because tablet use a lot of power when in use and that is why the tablet is discharging when you use it. PC has even less powerful USB charger so the tablet will probably be recharging VERY slowly or even discharging when you use it.
You should leave tablet overnight to recharge and it is better to charge it in one piece than constantly plugging and unplugging it from PC.
Have a nice day,

You should be able to charge and use it at the same time with the actual charger plugged in, but you are correct, with the PC you can not use and charge unless you mod your USB ports for extra power
Ok i will try to conect the tablet (power off) all the night to my computer but i think it will not charge...
And if it's not work, it's not a problem with the cable because i can use the cable to transfer media PC> Tablet, so it's a problem on the tablet connector?
Hello,
My tablet was charging all the night. She was at 22% and now 38.... It's very slow!!! But now, i know that my tablet and my cable are OK and my charger is the problem.
There is a solution to repair my charger or i must buy an other?

Try this, separate charger and its pins, then take it along with the cable and put it in a zip pouch, now freeze for say 2 hrs. Take it out let it return to normal temperature and then try charging. Remember freeze them in a zip pouch (air tight)

Oops, wrong section...Sorry! I don't know how to move or delete this. Anyway, my curiosity stays.
I think qi charging overrides USB charging, but it could be the other way around. Either way, the phone knows to deactivate one.
According to the battery monitor, wired charging (USB or A/C) overrides wireless charging. So, if you plug it in, it doesn't matter if you place it on the wireless charger or not.
I seem to recall someone at Google (on one of their product QA's for this phone) that even though it makes logical sense for the AC charger to take precedence (faster, less heat generation) but the QI charger is the one actually doing the charger.
I realize this contradicts what the battery status would indicate, but it is plausible that the indicator does not report it correctly.
Either way, the only time I can really see this being a factor for me even REMOTELY, is in the extremely rare event I have the phone plugged into my computer via USB, and sitting on my qi charger. But that almost never happens, I sync data to/from the phone over wifi just because, well, it's easier. It's not faster, but since it happens automatically it takes less effort.
In that case, I'd actually prefer the qi charger to work, since it's a faster charge than my USB port.
imagine the hilarity if both charging circuits worked though...sounds good in theory but I think we'd all have broken phones
I've plugged in my USB cable (hooked up to my computer via USB 3.0), while my phone was sitting on my Qi charger (nokia, 750mah), and the usb cable takes priority over the charge.
When wireless charging is in effect, you hear the NFC tone from the phone. Also the light on the charger turns on when its charging. It doesn't play when you lay a phone with USB plugged in, and the light doesn't turn on in front of the charger, so.
I'm pretty sure this would disrupt the space-time continuum.

I can confirm that while setting on the wireless charger, the "charging" light is on on the charger, but if I plug the cable in, the light goes out. The wired charger is DEFINITELY overriding the wireless charger.
For people using OTG cables or external storage adapters on the microUSB slot they do require wireless charging to work while being "plugged in".
awesome question...I have a S5, which has a galaxy charging current app
does one exist for the nexus? if so, you could tell by the amps it is charging at
The phone charges quick using wall plug, but the same cable in USB is dead slow. Even USB 3.0.
On plugs where I would charge my Nexus5, it doesn't charge, or something like 2% per hour...
Is this because of the cable? (I ordered some more, but I only have the original cable at the moment.)
Do you manage to charge using USB port from a computer?
I just received an Aukey USB cable 2m in length from amazon after reading many positive reviews. For some reason when i plug in(Samsung Note 2 and Sony 1.5A adapter), the charging bolt comes for about 2seconds(measured 1900ma) and goes off. I keep it aside for about another 2~3mins, the charge bolt comes(for 2s) and goes off again - this goes on a loop. I tried connecting to another AC adapter(Sony 2A CP-AD2) with the Aukey cable, but experience the same issue. I tried connecting it with my brothers phone(being a Samsung Note 3), the charge bolt does show up(measuring 1800ma) but the charge level drained from 4% to 1% while using for about 5mins while plugged(like as though it wasn't plugged in).
Now comes the weirder part, i connect my Note2 with the same cable to my macbook, to my surprise the phone does charge(460ma) as well as data transfer too is possible. The charging is true this time because i didnt notice a drop in percentage. This has left me very confused on where the problem lies. Has this occurred to anyone?
ps. i have seen people on the comments say the cable works perfectly with an Aukey Charger. I dont suppose a sony charger would interfere with a third party cable
Hello,
We speak about the USB Typ C cables right? I also got the 5 cable bundle from Aukey at amazon (3x 1m, 1x 2m, 1x 0,3m). So far the cables work perfectly, I use one with an Nexus 5X charger, one with an HTC charger and one with a car charging adapter (all with the 1m cables). When I'm at home I can try to charge my phone with the 2m cable to check whether it shows the same behaviour as yours
Edit: checked also the 2m cable, phone charges normaly, did you get a bad cable?
