[Q] Battery Dead - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So on Saturday i decided to update my Moto G (XT1032) to 4.4.4 KitKat so i could upgrade to Lollipop. After the update was over the phone immediately shut down and wouldn't boot up, so i left it charging overnight. In the morning(Sunday) the phone didn't boot up either so i left it to discharge until the next morning(Monday). So i leave it charging while i was out and when i came back i tried to do the solution provided by Motorola and a white LED started blinking but other than that the phone didn't boot up.Is there anything else i can try or am I missing something here?(p.s i handed it over to a friend and he disconnected the battery from the board and since then the LED started blinking)

trying pressing all the keys (volume up + volume down +power button) for 5 seconds and release it to get in to the bootloader, so then you can adb a custom recovery

I cant get into the bootloader

When you connect it to a Windows machine, is it recognized in device manager as something resembling "qhsusb_bulk"?
If it is, it is hard bricked.
Was the phone's bootloader unlocked? Were you running a custom recovery or rooted?

The PC recognizes the phone(like Moto G) and yes the bootloader was unlocked but i was running stock both firmware and recovery

Also no i wasnt rooted

The PC recognizes the phone in its current state as a moto g? That's good. Maybe you need to let it charge again and try to get into fastboot.

I let it charge for like 15 hours and still only a blinking light...well at least it aint dead

It doesn't seem to want to charge and it's recognized as a moto g when connected to your computer? I'd bet it isn't hard bricked, just soft bricked.

Try a different charger because sometimes I can't charge my phone when its empty with a certain charger but once I use a iPad power adapter it works and then I can charge using my usual charger

Funny thing is that both of my chargers are Apple chargers(with the original motorola usb cable ).So should i just leave it for like a week discharge or let it charge until it finally powers on?
Also if it is a soft brick what would you recommend?

I'd say left it charge over night.
Is the bootloader unlocked?

Yes the bootloader was unlocked

Any luck getting into fastboot?

No luck...still the only thing that shows up its the LED light

When you connect the phone to your Windows computer, is it seen as qhsb or some sort of weird device? If it is, it sounds like it is hard bricked.

Actually i was asked about this in this post (1st page)and no it doesnt show anything like qhsb

I asked again because things may have changed.
I'm at a loss as to why it is recognized as a Moto G by your computer even though it won't turn on.

I tried the freezer thing and the LED stopped blinking for a while and was stable

Is it recognized by your computer as a moto g? I'm not sure how it could since it can't be turned on.

Maybe your battery died? Check this: http://motorola-g.blogspot.com/2013/12/how-to-reanimate-moto-g-dead-battery.html
Yep, I had the same problem with my testing device. The solution from Piar worked for me.. But I had to hold the power button about for 40 sec.

its not the batt, but wrong flash files...
not its dead and wont come to life...
well now i going to buy new phone so..what happens happens..!
I wonder if service cable from Defy/RAZR would work on Moto G. It has connected pins in USB and bypassed battery in order to flash soft using RSD.
Does bootloader work on your device?

G has locked bootloader. It is difficult to brick it. I wouldnt give up. Still possible that battery is dead. I cant check myself but I would check if it's possible to measure voltage on battery. Anyway, you can still disassembly the phone good luck!

My Moto G Hard Bricked too while downgrading to 4.3!
The phone wont power on even holding power button or plugged in a charger.
My PC doesnt recognize it anymore, so i cant do flash-blank
Now it seems like a useless piece of plastic
It never happened with me with any Sony or Samsung phone that has passed by my hands.

The device turned on, thanks.
But I'm facing other problem :/
I did the flash-blank to restore bootloader, ok, but it says 'Device is LOCKED' even after flashing motoboot.img
So I can't flash boot.img, recovery.img or system.img
Tried to unlock bootloader again, but is give me: "fastboot oem unlock disabled!"
It's weird because when I type 'fastboot oem get_unlock_data' he gives me other key than the first time I've unlocked it
My new questions is:
There's a way to force this bootloader to be unlocked?
Or how can I flash stock firmware with locked bootloader? (tried many firmwares, fastboot always says 'Perflash validation failed' for boot.img and 'Invalid signed image' for system.img and the devices says 'hab check failed for boot' | 'Invalid PIV signed system image'.
Can anyone save me from this hell?
UPDATE: After searching and reading so much in the web, i figured out that i wiped cid partition (yeah, i'm a douchebag) so i give up of try to fix my moto g and bought a new phone

[Q] Black screen but charging led lights up

Hi There,
Yesterday morning I went to work with a completely charged Moto G. When I arrived at work my screen was black and had become unresponsive.
The powerbutton doesn't wake up the phone, tried several times, holding it for more than 150sec. When connected to a charger (tried multipe) the charging led lights up, not blinking.
I have read on a motorola forum that this could indicate that there's insufficient power in the battery to activate the display.
However it was completely charged.
My Moto G has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted and has a custom rom (C-Rom, [ROM][AOSP][KK][12/05] **C-RoM** -4.4.2- -v6.5)
Is there anything I can try or is my phone a brick now?
Thanx in advance
The same problem
I am having the same problem too.
My moto G drained its battery until it shut down. Then i promptly went to charge it. The screen is blank and and notification light is on.
snooze1973 did u find a solution or is it now working?
PS My Moto g bootloader unlocked, stock rom, rooted and it is on the Faux123kernel
Thanks in advance
No luck Yet
No luck yet, left it on the charger for a whole night, still just the white charging led. No response to the power button.
But I refuse to believe it is completely dead. Before I had a HTC Desire S, tried many custom roms, never bricked it.
I just can't imagine what happend the day before yesterday.
Perhaps I'll try and find a more powerfull charger.

I think I found a solution. I followed these steps
1. Charge your phone via USB cable on your computer.
2. The white notification light should come on.
3. Then, do not touch any buttons on your phone.
4 The iconic Battery Logo(white background) should appear after several minutes.
Followed these steps and my phone eventually turned on
Good luck!!
Still no luck, trying a different cable (blackberry) now.
Not working for me, still just a beautiful white led indicator.
Start to think it's probably dead. Or battery thinks it's drained somehow.
Maybe anyone else has an idea?
Ok, I opened the Moto G and disconnected the battery, reconnected it after 10 sec. still no luck
Odd thing though and not very promising is that when the battery is disconnected the charging led still lights up when charger is connected.
Could this just mean that only the battery is fully drained or that the device is messed up?
Guess I going for a new one.
See if a new battery helps
Bought a new one today, so I can try and fix the other. First I will leave it for at least 24 hours.
Perhaps I will exchange the batteries at one time to see if that helps.

Black screen but charging led lights up
I am experiencing the same issue.
I bought a dead moto g for part replacement with my current moto g. Just out of curiosity, I plugged in the charger to the newly arrived moto g and observed the similar behavior.
To go further, I swapped the battery and tried to turn it on, and voila, it boots!! It has C-ROM. But it won't charge the battery any how. Its again back to
original behavior : No Screen, No Battery Charging, Only notification LED glows. I kept it on charger for whole night, but no luck.
The notification LED turns on even if I the battery is removed and charger is plugged in. What does that really mean?
Is there a probability that the charging circuit is broken? or it has something to do with bootloader, C-ROM and custom kernel? Does any one thinks reverting back to Stock ROM will help out in any way?
Same here...
Exactly the same with my little brother his Moto G 4G (1st gen) (stock rom, BL unlocked & rooted).
Solid white LED when plugged in, no other response.
The most advertised trick does not work (step 6: flashboot screen doesn't show up)
Q28: Moto G will not power up (addition to Q16 and Q25)
Plug it into the charger
Hold the VOL DOWN key
While still holding the VOL DOWN key, press and hold the POWER key
Hold both keys down for over 120 seconds. This is more than two minutes and will seem like a long time. You might want to time yourself to make sure you hold it longer than two minutes.
After holding the keys down for more than two minutes, release them.
The Flash Boot screen will display, and the Normal Reboot option will be highlighted
Press the VOL UP key and the device will start a normal reboot.
If you have tried the above and it didn't work, try this:
Plug in the phone for 15 minutes.
Proceed to Step 2 above.

It has been an hour on the charger of my Asus T100 Tablet (5V, 2A). Still no luck...
Due to the lack of other solutions, I guess all our phones are ready for RMA...
Update: an overnight charge on a 5V 1A charger did the trick. White led was gone this morning, booted normally.

i hv been facing the same problem since past 2 days, it was working gud wen suddenly it went bad. i remember using it and putting it back into my pocket & after like 10 mins wen i tried to open it, it didn't respond. i tried to hard reset it (by pressing vol down n power button) & by forced reset but it didnt work. now, i have put it on charge on a source of 5v 1A charger. i hope it works and works well. now my question is that i remember my cell was nearly 50% charged wen all of ds happened, so i wish to know that is dre some hardware problem or dead battery problem?? thnx in advance

I don't know why a USB charger and a PC connection should make any difference when the phone is not booted up.
I had the same problem. I solved it by removing the battery by opening the phone (mine was out of warranty) and taking it to repair shop where they charged the battery for an hour. Then when I put it back in, the phone rebooted normally with 10% charge.
But ever since, my battery life has deteriorated. Doesn't even last one full day. And I have had the same issue twice. I think I need a new battery.

I have a simple solution for that I have faced this issue long time ago and now I know a permanent solution. You all have usb cables in your house...just took a old one and cut it from the mini usb side..there are 4 wires...you have to care about red and black..open your moto g battery and took it off from the phone now connect the usb cable to your pc and touch the red wire to the positive and black to the negative ...just do this for 45 seconds and immediately connect the battery to the phone and connect the charger...phone will starts charging from 0 % pls do not wait to connect the switch and back cover just charge it upto 20 % the cover it up.....DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERY DRAIN MORE THAN 30% AS THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN LI ION BATTERIES...

Interesting, but how did you determine the negative and positive terminals on the battery flex? Can you, please, mark the attached photo of the battery of moto g to help the community?
Also, as a side note I think I discovered a solution - I connected the phone to my PC's usb 2.0 port and held the power button for 2 minutes - at which the LED blinked momentarily and then continues to shine. I left the phone connected and continued to browse for solutions to this battery charging dilemma - then about 5 minutes the LED stopped shining (and I breathed a sigh :silly: !!! becaue this is the sign of battery being charged!) and after about 30 minutes of charging I turned the phone on and it was 16% charged. Well I haven't been able to reproduce this solution (since, I have been extra cautious with the battery now!) but I would surely like to know if anyone can reproduce this solution:
1. Plug in your phone to USB 2.0 or 3.0 port with original moto g cable and confirm that the LED shines continuously.
2. Hold the power button for 2 minutes (which I discovered to be a long time if you just continuously stare at the phone!) after which you will notice that the led with blink momentarily before continuing to shine continuously. (I suggest you continue holding it for another 2 minutes after which the led will blink again momentarily)
3. Leave the power button and leave the phone attached to the port for at least 30 mins before attempting to power on.

Moto G won't turn on :(

Hey guys, something happened to my Moto G this morning and now it won't turn on. This has happened to me previously as well where the battery drained and charging it sorted the problem out.
But this time the battery was fully charged and now it won't turn on, neither does the screen light up when I connect it to the charger (with the 0% battery logo).
Something to note - I got an update from the play store for Motorola Boot Services. My phone restarted once and showed me the new boot animation (World Cup). Then it just went dead. Not sure if this has to do something with it.
I was running stock with an unlocked bootloader, root and twrp. XT1033 dual SIM.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Any way to at least get the phone back to stock so I can take it back to Motorola.

Try again, with the device connected to the charger. This should perform a reset and a force boot, so it's just like removing the battery, If no luck, try to recover your bootloader by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623587
Press power and volume down keys for about 30-45 seconds and then release. This will turn of the device and then reboot to bootloader automatically. If this doesnt work, it should be a problem with the screen.
I've updated my boot services today and it didn't cause any trouble so far.
My advice is to leave it for few hours on the charger if it's really showing the charging picture and it shows 0% there.

[Q] xt925 brick, can't even fastboot

I think I really outdid myself this time, was installing an official firmware on my fiancee's phone(Blur_Version.98.50.26.XT925.Brasil.en.BR) trough RSD Lite (6.1.6) and at the end of the process the phone shut down and didn't finish the rebooting process. Since then I can't get it to turn on or access fastboot. Even connecting it to a charger wont turn the led on.
So, the hard questions to ask:
1. Is there anything I can do? Anything at all?
2. Even if I can't. What may have happened? I used RSD other times and I have modded half a dozen phones and a brick happened to me before.
Thank you so much, I am probably gonna get chewed since her work depends on it and we will have to get an other one, but any nudge in the right direction or cold hard truths will be appreciated.
Stephen
It almost seems like the battery died while you were flashing. What was the battery at when you started?

I would try a Motorola Factory Adapter or mod a USB cable to act like one. If it still fails to boot then your looking at a hard brick.

Quick update, this morning when I connected to a power source it turned the green light on(left ir connecting for the night). Tried connecting to my pc and it will play the connected/disconnected sounds over and over again. Still can't fastboot it.
I imagine it might have been some sort of battery issue but it was over 60% when I began installing the firmware and the process took less than 10 minutes.

Flashing will kill battery. You should always try to do it with a full battery. Anywho, does anything show up in the device manager on your PC when you connect the phone?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Nope, my pc will make sounds as if it was being plugged and unplugged repeatedly.
Also when I press the power and volume buttons to reboot in fastboot or recovery (the cell was unlocked, rooted and had the latest JB philz recovery ) the green light will flash but the screen wont turn on.
Nothing shows up at all? That sucks. Hmmm, leave the phone on the charger overnight and then see if you can get into fastboot.

Moto G bootloopand won't boot into fastboot

well, hello everyone here, yes, as the title says, my moto g is just stuck on the motorola logo and that's it, i bought this phone to a friend who told me it was the motherboard that was f****d up, but when i got home y just pressed vol - and power just because of instinct (i actually don't know much about this phone or motorola phones itself) and it enteredinto fastboot, so i was like: 'ok..... i've just bought a treasure' and everything relatively ok, i browsed through the menu options to see what was available, i pressed Recovery and the phone just turned off because it was low in battery (before all of the fastboot and stuff when i press power, the white led just blinked and that was it, it wont even boot into Motorola logo). Ok after seeing that the phone was low battery i disarmed it and charged the battery with two cables from and or usb i peeld just for this situation. After leaving it for like two hours i put the battery again and was stuckd into the Motorola logo... nothing hard, but what is pissing me off is that now i CAN'T BE ABLE TO BOOT INTO FASTBOOT and it's just stuck booting o trying to (when i connected the battery the phone turned itself on). Now i don't know what to do, i'm desperated, please, help me
