So is it true the official OTA update to Gingerbread is here? Says connection failed"
So I hear the OTA update for Gingerbread for G2X is available. Well when I go into "about phone" and click the "software update check", it always searches on server and then eventually says "connection failed". I understand this is a know issue, but a lot of people are saying that they were able to update to gingerbread this way.
Right now I am running a stock G2X phone on Simple Mobile service. Does running on simple mobile have anything to do with it not updating OTA(over the air)? How can I update. I don't want to download a hacked up unofficial version of the Gingerbread. I want to do it the right way. Thank you.
Lg's software updater? From lg's website..

Don't use the LG tool, it bricks phones. Get to a spot with full bars and search for the update again. The connection is key.
no it doesnt, if u have a newer reliable computer you are good to go just follow the instructions rite the first time and everything will go smooth , the whole process takes 10 minutes tops, and if ur with simple i dont think u are getting an ota from tmobile lol

Can anyone else confirm that the ota update will not work because I'm using simple mobile? I was under the impression and was also told that simple mobil runs off T-Mobile. On the other hand, this is not the first time I've heard this, but I get a different answer everytime I call a T-Mobile store and ask. I'm also sure they don't like people that use simple mobile so of course. So can anyone confirm this with a decent explanation? Thank you.
And to the otherperson, wakeboarder, so I need full bars and it should work. Do you have simple mobile as well?
I think it sarni is right, if your not on the tmo network you won't get it via ota. Best bet is to use the lg update tool. That's how I did it and it was painless.

Can someone please walk me through the manual update process. I have an Apple Mac Mini which is 6-9month old and a Dell Windows XP which is old as hell but still works decent. And also a few questions:
1) is this update an official legit gingerbread update
2) If the phone does become bricked, will LG repair since it is their update
3) Step by step instructions please, I just got my phone back from LG and don't want to f it up.
Thanks guys.

The updater tool only works with windows. Also, it only works with phones that are not refurbed.
oh, that's right. :/
Well step one would be to get ride of that apple junk. There is a reason that it doesnt work on apple because apple the corp[eration is a bunch of Asses and they dont make there stuff compatable with anyone else they think they are the only company out there that does this stuff. So I say good for LG for beating them at there own game and making there tool not compatable with apples junk. It would probally brick you phone anyway because it is not an Iphone. Once you do that you will be alot better off and your life will be easir since PCs are compatable with almost everything.
Then go to LGs website go to the mobile section go to support got to tmo p999dw or at this point it might say G2x there should be instructions for it on the site but instasll the mobile support tool them Make sure you install the drivers and then it will be smothsailing seeing as how you will have a fresh new PC. And yes the other Dude is right it just makes sence even if the other company uses tmos network it they only rent from them they would not have any control of OTA stuff TMO would not give them the rights to that for free. There customers are not TMOs so TMO does not care about them. As far As I know the LG update and the OTA are identical that is what I am told I am wondering that myself. The only thing that might be different and I really dought it is someone said that the OTA has the full 1080p and the LG update only shoots 720p. I'm not sure if that is true I also dont know if it is Just 1080p or 720p for both I think that the stock GB camera app only shoots 720p but I really dont know. So there you have it.
I'm running G2X with gingerbread update on simple mobile as well and having issues with internet and MMS service. I'm using APN that I set up to work with Simple Mobile but it keeps switching back to the T-Mobile APN. And there is nothing I can do with that. So unless there is some kind of solution on that problem, do not update to Gingerbread.

Simple Mobile is an MVNO of T-Mobile, correct? The problem is that their sim card uses T-Mobile's MCC and MNC. At boot up the phone looks at that and then sets the APNs accordingly. Since the phone was built for TMO it thinks that is what it should be. Solution is to set it and not turn your phone off. You can also edit the "apns-conf" file in /system/etc and put in settings for Simple Mobile. I believe that file will take precedence over other settings. You need to be rooted. After changing the file for Simple Mobile's APN settings select reset to default. If you don't know how to structure the file give me Simple's info and I'll make the file for you. Then just back up the old one, install the new one and see if it works.
Reboot or not reboot, it is still switching to TMO apn. So as far as I understood I have to root the phone first, then edit "apns-conf" file?

You do not need any file!
I just rooted my phone with 2 steps:
First thing, I installed Clockwordmod with NVFlash.
Info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Then I boot into Clockwordmod Recovery and run this booting zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
After I rooted the phone, I went to APN settings and (YYYYYEEEAAAAHHHHH) WAS ABLE TO CHANGE T-MOBILE APN TO SIMPLE MOBILE!
You do exactly like simplemobile.com says BUT instead of creating new APN you just modify original one. Without rooting your phone it is impossible to do!
Big thanks to everybody on this forum who helped me!
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the SK4G or knows about any solutions. My GPS has been unable to get a fix since before I even rooted. I hoped rooting and installing a custom ROM would fix this but so far that is a no.

try a nexus rom (the themes look amazing an are stable) only crashes are when something isn't supported or something goes wrong with a app
Also the root for the phone is like 99% good an 1% bad
If you have everything correct but can't flash "error" finding the command in the cwm its just a bad root easy fix just odin an reroot put recovery back in an there
If you have anymore issues please just reply to this thread I check all new replys to threads also please check a few other fourms with the same issues as more people helped to fix them. Thank you for the help. I ran the fix permissions and rebooted and I am running a nexus rom, nexus jb 1.3.2 to be exact. Sorry, I didn't understand the instructions concerning the flash "error" as I am very new to it all. The gps did stop working even before I was rooted, I wonder if maybe this is a hardware issue.

No worries about responding right away, this isn't a huge issue just something I'd like to fix if possible. It is my only phone but I don't need GPS daily so no rush.
If you mean turn GPS off/on in settings I have done that several times. Most recently I turned it on and rebooted but still no GPS fix. Time is getting close to needing a new device lol...

i already got a new one man the s3 is treating me good too c:
an idk man try a different rom or something?
ON: Galaxy S3 4.4.2 Verizon(d2vzw) -->OK, I know you all may think I didn't read the other debrick threads, your wrong. I made this new thread because i HAVE tried endlessy every method of debrick on this forum and the internet, and no success. I was messing around with safestrap and decided to try and flash a rom called flashingdroid: for some reason. So i did as usual, boot into recovery(safestrap 3.75) and wipe current os and flash the new one. So i wiped my stock rom(after making a backup) and installed/flashed the new one(flashingdroid) and after seemingly a successful flash, i pressed reboot. Then it went downhill. One second after i pressed reboot, the screen flashed quickly, then shutoff, for good. I couldn't boot it or get into recovery or odin or ANYTHING. I tried the microsd method of debricking with minimal success. It will only give me one vibration, then black scree with that method. Nothing else has worked. I know this was a noob mistake somehow, but does anyone know any special tricks or something? Will a good jig maybe work? I have doubt verizon or samsung will accept it back(it was well rooted!). Please anything/anybody help! I really don't want to buy a new phone or jtag it. Thanks!:crying:
You may have read the debrick threads, but what you should have done from the beginning was read and pay attention to which forum you were in. You flashed a ROM for the International version of the S3 onto your Verizon S3. You almost certainly turned your phone into a shiny paper weight. JTAG may be your only hope. If you don't have one, check out mobiletechvideos.com. I'm not familiar enough with safestrap to know if that may have actually saved you since it is not a traditional recovery and I don't know if it touches all the partitions. In the future, research, research, and research, and pay very close attention to exactly what you are flashing onto your phone. For the Verizon S3, you should only flash ROMs from this sub-forum. And when using safestrap, you are restricted to only flashing ROMs with the same build number as what your phone is currently on in a stock condition.
Ok...Thanks

Confused About What's Possible for Modding a Stock Verizon S3
Can someone please steer me in the right direction? I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.4.2 stock. I recently rooted my phone, but I realize I am very limited as to any mods I can make due to the locked bootloader. Am I able to modify my OS in some way at all (Safestrap) to make my phone run better, or am I just too late in going about this? I've read so much on this subject, but the more I read, it seems the more confused I get. I want to be careful not to brick my phone and would love to see some precise directions on what I could do. Thanks a million for any help at all!

It's hard to compare this forum with the others. I believe the people here are the most knowledgeable and, like you, very helpful. Funny enough, or not, I posed a related question on another site (initials AC), and it took over 150 views and a week later before anybody offered a reply. Anyway, I can see there is lots of information on this forum about xposed, so now I'll go and learn as much as I can about it. Thanks again for your help!

I seem to have gotten into big trouble - I hope there's a solution. I learned all about Xposed and installed it along with about a dozen modules. Everything was working great, except the torch/flashlight... [I wanted that! ] so, I saw a download for a module on this forum to fix the flashlight... http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-flashlight-fixer-fix-devices-t2867267 . Well, since doing that, I think I realized that I should have left the flashlight alone! When I tried to reboot after adding the module to xposed, I ended up in what i believe is a boot loop. The Samsung screen comes on, and then it gets stuck on the red Verizon screen. I never dreamed that a module installation could cause this; and I guess I figured if it ever happened I could get into recovery mode and restore everthing. Btw, I had done a complete backup of my phone using Titanium on my sd card.
So, here's what I can/can't do now. I can push "down-volume-button" + home + power to get to screen where you can download a cusom OS - then pushing volume-up-button goes to screen that says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!! (Nothing seems to happen from here.) - - - I cannot enter recovery mode by pressing "volume-up" + home + power keys. When I do that I get the big yellow triangle with message - System software not authorized...go to nearest Verizon store. hmmmm.... So, am I hard bricked or soft bricked? Do I have a way out? Thanks very much for any help with this!

Shapes Blue & Root Wizard,
Thanks much for your replies. Is it possible for me, having had 4.4.3 on phone, to go to 4.3 instead of 4.4.2? Seems some people think that's an advantage, but I'm not sure. If I did do that, could I still run xposed?
Btw, RW, I tried using your idea, but when I was attempting to do the emergency Firmware Recovery, it asked for a computer code...??? So, that method doesn't seem to be a good route for me, but thanks for the tip!

When I open Odin3 v 3.09 and try to flash the firmware 1534VRUDNE1 . . . . .tar.md5 , it doesn't successfully load to the s3. I've attached a screenshot showing the Odin screen. It show "All threads completed. (succeed 0 failed 1) - btw, when I click on the firmware file within Odin, nothing appears in the box to the right of the AP field; is that correct?
Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Can you get into recovery?
I was able to open it once I downloaded docs by google. It's been so long since I used it though. I can't recall off hand how to use it to be honest
