extra juice - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i see a mophie case, anybody else probably getting one? (yes they have a edge version of the case)
what other companies makes cases with batteries?

i dont think that is a battery case... nothing more that an external pack shaped like the phone, and like with all the samsung accessories, it'll be overpriced. i can buy a 10,000mAh pack for $20-25. same with cases, too many good options out there at better prices.
And like in the past with samsung accessories, the phone will come out and the accessories will be nowhere to be found until months later, if at all..

Buy an anker. Better and cheaper I believe

There is supposed to be some snap on magnetic exta power pack/case thing direct from samsung.
Personally the S6 will have more than enough battery. If I really needed more I'd also get an external pack rather than carrying a much heavier phone all the time.

2800mAh Galaxy S i9000 battery at DX $17.50 w/ free shipping

I just ordered a 2800mAh battery meant for an i9000 from dealextreme.com
Samsung Galaxy S i9000 2800mAh battery I'll report back once I get it.
Hopefully it works, it doesn't seem that much thicker than the stock one.
I plan on making my own custom back cover out of sugru, or it's cheaper substitute, oogoo.
If you haven't heard of Sugru, check out some projects made with it here. It's got some amazing properties, and is easy to work with. I really like the idea of putting 4 sugru bumpers on the corner of my phone to protect it in-case of a fall.
If that link doesn't work, just goto www.instructables.com and search for "sugru".
Please document an instructable to make the backcover if the battery works. This sounds like an interesting project!
Do you plan to buy a cheap hard case cover from ebay, then cutting a hole through the back for the battery and putting the sugru over it? That might be an easier than making your own cover from scratch.
It seems to me like the battery will work for the phone, but you might have to charge it in a standalone charger.

Good luck. That picture makes it look about twice the thickness of a stock battery.
Most extended batteries are around 4mm extra thicker. but since this is only 2800, might be 1mm less thicker than those 3200mah ones. you might be able to pull it off by using a cheap hardcase and sugru

Why no cheap battery covers?

I'm in the middle of making a flipping mechanism with a mini Bluetooth keyboard attached to my phone. Its pretty much just a hinge joining the two, and will allow me to conveniently bring with me some physical keys for typing, and more importantly gaming.
At the moment, I've attatched the hinge to an old case for my N1 instead of the phone itself. Its really annoying, since the extra bulk shouldn't be necessary.
There's a video on YouTube of someone doing the same thing with a HD2, and he is using an old battery cover, which doesn't add any bulk.
I was wondering why there aren't any cheap battery cover replacements for the N1. I understand that it may be difficult because of the speaker muffler and camera cover, but surely for under 10 dollars I could get a crap one off eBay/DX.
I've seen the larger ones which can fit the extended batteries, but none that are similar to Tue original. I honestly would not care if I bought one made of crappy plastic, anything as long as I'm not paying $20/30/40 for the OEM ones
Because its a developer phone, only a few have it.

I'm taking about cheap ripoffs.
Look at the amount of all the ridiculously cheap cases and other accessories for the N1 on eBay.
I don't want an OEM battery cover, I want the most basic and cheap cover. I would have thought there would be some manufacturer out there who has taken the mould of the original and then mass produced them with cheaper materials, because they seem to have done so with the extended batteries.
I'm simply putting it out there to see if anyone has come across a product that fits my description.

Doesn't the Desire have one big plate cover, sorta unibody?

Battery Cases

Normally i am not a fan of these, but i may consider getting one and just keep it around when an emergency or something even though i already have a portable battery, i can carry this on the phone when really necessary ..
I noticed Morphie announced their battery case for the S6... price? wait for it.... $100 whopping dollars.
http://www.mophie.com/shop/samsung-devices/juice-pack-galaxy-s6
personally that is a bit extreme and no way I will spend that kind of money just to have laying around, and i doubt they will sell many at that price.. most of the other phone battery cases are less than half that. Zerolemon announced theirs, but as usual, no price or when it will be available.
Anyhow, i found a much cheaper option. $25 bucks which is on sale for preorders..

These cases are impractical by adding the unnecessary bulk at the bottom for the USB port. They should just use wireless charging
Love the honest comment by the seller: "The Kickstand is not so sturdy enough really, if you pull it out too much, it may broke"

as i mentioned, i would never have one of these on 24/7, only when really necessary when i need portability and don't want to lug around a powerbank.
It has always been interesting why some people are giving a lot of money for a product, S6 in this example, opposed to other brands or cheap knockoff versions, and do not want to invest in something that will protect the expensive product

[Q] Best replacement battery?

Bought a used Relay off eBay and the battery life is pretty meh, either because it's the original one and is run down or a knockoff. (It's an 1800 mAh.)
I'm running CM 10.2 and minimal background apps. Mobile data is off 95% of the time (I turn it on/off only as needed), and the same for wifi. It only charges up to about 85% and I can't even get 10 hrs off that.
I'm not looking for an extended battery, just one that will last longer than this one! There are so many "OEM" ones on eBay/Amazon that it's hard to find a legit Samsung battery (if they even make this one anymore). Any suggestions on where to look or brands of some aftermarket ones that won't catch on fire?
Thanks all-
-KC

I'm using that battery. I think u have to shave down the battery plastic near where the connectors are, but other than that it fits in the phone.
Oh and I also wedged a small piece of foam on the right side (maybe 2mm thick) just to keep the battery snug. Else it is loose and will lose connection with the power terminal if u slam the slider shut.
Yeah, I'm using that same PolarCell battery in my wife's phone, and did the same cut+foam. We've been through a couple cheapo "extended capacity" batteries, but the PolarCell one fits w/o having to mess with the case, and gives a good runtime (better than her original battery did when new).
There's a thread in the Accessories forum (I think) about different batteries, which is where I saw this one mentioned. You might dig through there for more history.

Lifeproof FRE case with an extended battery or a Wireless charging back cover?

I'm not too sure if this is the right place to ask all of this, but here it goes:
I'm heavily considering an S5, especially since it is has some waterproofing, has an OLED screen, and many features that budget phones today do not have. Lifeproof also offers a case(albeit expensive) that makes it much more waterproof and 'drop-proof'. Would there be any similar cases that you would recommend, that increase waterproofing and make it drop proof?
However, I'm also pretty worried about the battery life. How much time can the stock 2800 mAh battery get you? I'm pretty sure the Lifeproof case won't work with really any extended battery.
And while I don't know the practicality of it, how necessary/cool is a wireless charging cover? I think it's a really cool thing for something as old as an S5, but I'm not too sure if it's worth the tradeoff(s). I have seen posts here saying that the wireless charging cover is somewhat compatible with the Lifeproof case, but inconvenient.
A final question, although not really an accessory question, is where should I get an S5 from? Will the popular ebay ones do for rooting? I need it unlocked though

Hello and welcome the s5 is a good choice to have and it can hold its own as for the waterproof case you could just get the life proof if it suits your needs but I personally don't have one that's water proof.for wireless charging it is good for over night or if your at work but the charge rate is slow so I would just get a long charging cable
For the battery I get about 5 to 6 hours screen on time it all depends on daily usage and what apps your using
And for buying a s5 I paid £40 for mine all working but the paint has started coming off the bezel if you can get one private of sites like shpock or Gumtree then you should get one cheap if not eBay or amazon then I bought a zagg invisible shield off eBay for £0.99p and a hard case for the same price
