Backup to laptop - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife is not tech savvy so this needs to be simple to do.
I installed Titanium Backup on my wife's rooted nexus 5 (kitkat) and it backs up her apps and data regularly during the night. (some time ago I also did a nandroid backup for her and moved it to her laptop)
For privacy reasons we don't want to backup to the cloud or Google.
Is there a simple way to *automatically* create and move backups from her phone to her laptop preferably via our home wlan wifi?
If not automatically, how can she do it simply other than by direct cable?
Thanks.

Get a file explorer that can transfer via ftp. Click and drag your back ups to and from your PC.

BitTorrent sync
give bittorrent sync a try it automatically backups data to your laptop/pc via wifi/data( you can set it to wifi only also)

You also have adb wireless, but it is a little slow and a ftp should be easier for your wife .

Help! I installed a new rom but my Contacts are gone!?

I went through Windows Mobile Device Center, synced all my settings before I installed a new Rom, but now it's all gone!?
Please help, I had over 200 contacts and important events!
I also did a "Microsoft my phone", and I can access it, but I have no idea what do to with it.
Thank you.
Install and run My Phone on the new rom, and sync it.
Your contacts should Sync again from your PC when it sees the new ROM. You might have to delete and re-establish the partnership.
For the future, use Sprite Backup. It has a great Restore Merge Feature that will re-install all your apps and settings to a new ROM. They even claim it will move them to a different phone.
Sprite also keeps self-executing backups on your SD Card. If you botch up something, you can quickly put it back the way it was at the last Backup. It will also backup to your your PC for another level of protection. Don't forget to periodically copy the contents of your SD Card to your PC and another safe place. I'd be more concerned about loosing that then anything on my phone.
I don't know if MS cloud backup works but I certainly wouldn't rely on it. Just ask the Sidekick users. I guess if your house burned down it might be helpful. You can do the same thing by just copying your Sprite Backups to another form of online storage. Most email providers provide some for free.
If it is important. BACKUP. BACKUP. BACKUP. BACKUP.

Once you run myphone and login on the new ROM, sync it and your contacts should be there.
Also when you first plug in your phone to WMC you have to setup the phone and choose which items to sync(Contacs, Outlook, Music, etc) make sure that's setup correctly.

1) It didn't do anything except update the sync date on the Myphone site.
2) I can't check "contacts, events, etc", because there are none on the phone.
Ah, here we go.
It didn't connect properly. Thanks for the help!
You should have a fail-safe or two. I back up my contacts 3 different ways-Pimbackup (you should get this), SK tools backup, and I also copy pim.vol onto my storage card (this is not hard-you should do this). Weird things can happen. I mainly use sk tools to restore, because pimbackup has issues with 6.5 in my experience, but it's good to have multiple options (and doesn't take much effort). I also save a copy every so often on my pc, in case my card crashes.

App to sync pictures/video to computer?

I take a lot of videos of my daughter, pictures also, and I wanted an easy way to sync my dcim/camera folder to a folder on my computer. I know I can plug the phone in and sync that way.
I already have a dropbox account and 1gb is used up with roms and such, any other alternative?
I use Titanium Media Sync to sync to my Dropbox. I take it you don't want to use up the remaining gig on your Db?
SugarSync always works very nicely with syncing and PC/Mac. And if I'm correct it may have about 2 GBs of storage as well.
P.S. Check the sig for a referral.
I didnt even know DB had a limit. Is it based on what are in the folders or overall uploads?

Photobucket works too. At least to the cloud. You'd have to pull it from there to the pc. If you're around the house you could always send them over wifi with shared folders if you don't want to plug in the phone.

I had the same need and first tried out Titanium Media Sync (on HTC Desire) but was annoyed to learn that you only have limited options for the sync (currently "continuous" and "single one way"). I needed the app to upload (and unload) photos and videos from the device to a network location, ultimately to free up space on the device. However, with the continous sync, any files deleted on the device will result in deletion on the network as well; which does not provide much of a backup.
I ended up with Syncness, which is exactly what I needed. You can configure it to sync only with specific networks, at specific hours of the day, only at A/C power, etc. (the latter is in all fairness also supported by Titanium). It can even save original file dates/info to the remote location. You can also ask the app to delete the synced files once they have been copied to the remote location. Syncness ftp's the files to my Synology FileStation NAS server on my home network - I'm not sure what other transfer protocols are supported.

Data Sync between the Xoom and the Evo3D?

Is there a way to sync data between my Xoom and Evo 3D, preferably wirelessly? I'd like to be able to sync pictures and videos or other files.
This is a good question. I have a Desire and we should seek a solution that would work between different kind of android devices and also perhaps between more than two devices.
So far I'm using two apps to do this, but not an ideal solution yet. The data sync is more kind of a workaround.
Syncing pictures/video/folders
-Titanium Media Sync [https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.MediaSync] to sync folders between device and either dropbox or ftp. This works quite well, but I still need to do it kind of manually it feels. Not 2-way. I need to manually sync folders from my ftp(originating from desire) to my Xoom when i see it necessary to update. But it automatically uploads folders of my choosing to ftp/dropbox. The app is still being actively developed, and it keeps getting better. I like all the options for choosing/filtering files to be synced, but it may look difficult at first. There are options to sync immediately when you say take a picture or wait until the device is on a charer/wifi.
Syncing app data
-Titanium Backup [https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup] to sync app data for spesific apps/games back and forth. I do this for the games I currently play when i want to pick up from the progress I had on either phone or tablet. Make a new backup of game. Long hold on game in backups-list. Choose "send backup" and send to mail or dropbox folder. Download on other device into titanium backup folder. Go into Titatnium backup on that device and find the new backup you just copied in there and restore it.
The best thing would be to just sync the entire titanium backups to Dropbox and the do the same on the other device and it woul sync, but I do not dare to test if that would work... anybody do that?
There are also other similar apps that do these kind of syncing, I just happened to allready be using titanium backup. Also, there are apps that spesifically sync the data (game progress) of popular games like angry birds.

i will try media Sync. I want to find something I can sync data on my Mac too it possible
If you sync to dropbox with titanium media sync it would be updated on your mac (in your dropbox folder). But remember - it's a one-way sync so files wouldn't sync back the other way. Not everyone needs it to though... And I don't know if that's even possible. You could anyway access stuff through the dropbox app of course..
Btw. I just remembered the two other big alternatives:
Dropsnap
https://market.android.com/details?id=me.ctso.dropsnap
Sugarsync
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sharpcast.sugarsync
I haven't tried them myself but one of them would probably also do a great job for what you wanted. Dropsnap seems a bit simpler in function than t. media sync and sugarsync seems to rely on having their software on your computer. I allready had dropbox so I didn't want one more sync/cloud service

Another option:

---------- Post added at 09:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 AM ----------
Just found another (possibly better) option:

With this, you might be able to just select the app, not the files to sync.. easier...

SD Card Backup via Wifi

Hi,
I'm searching a program what will backup my sdcard automatically if the phone is connected to es special wifi.
i mean the same function like Appl's iPhone / iPad backup via Wifi with iTunes.
Is there any program / app for Android available what can do this?
All apps what i have found have not the right functions what i need.
I need the follow functions:
- Automatically backup of selectet folders from my sd card if the phone connected to a specified Wifi
- scheduled backup and catch up the backup if the wifi is not available to the scheduled time
- send the backup via wifi to a selected PC ( if PC is not online catch up the backup when the PC is back online.
- optional send the backup to a NAS
- optional send the backup to a Cloud
- optional send my a information via mail if the backup with the finished stat.
Thanks

I use this for my pictures and the "custom" folders option for a select olfew other folders.
I ftp directly to my NAS, though you could set up an ftp server on your computer instead.

How do you backup the photos/videos? Looking for an easy and robust way

How do you backup the photos/videos from the phone? Is there any easy and decent (not locked in to one service, etc.) way?
Until 2019 Google Photos was syncing with Google Drive. But now they removed it, and storing just in Google Photos doesn't sound great, no easy way to sync with PC, etc.
For now I am thinking to sync between the phone and PC via 100-200 GB Google Drive, and when it fills up move some photos/videos to other HDDs, etc. (I also backup to Backblaze B2 from my PC)
Is it possible to automatically sync the photos/videos taken by the phone (Huawei P30) using the standard Google Drive app? Or do I need something like FolderSync?
I had been searching for several days to find a user-friendly application which I could use to simply back up and save readable versions of the file in my phone(Huawei Mate30). There are various tools available, many of them free and others which bear a small price tag, which will perform basic back-up and restore. I tried a few which did indeed create backup files. Some of them were useful for sending the backup files to a Google account, a Dropbox account or even directly to my computer via a USB connection. But it was often difficult if not impossible to translate the file into something readable. Then I found an application developed by the Mobikin company called “Backup Manager for Android”. I installed it on my trusty Windows, connected my phone via USB and it worked as I expected. This is the most satisfying one I have ever used and is worth trying.
