I take a lot of videos of my daughter, pictures also, and I wanted an easy way to sync my dcim/camera folder to a folder on my computer. I know I can plug the phone in and sync that way.
I already have a dropbox account and 1gb is used up with roms and such, any other alternative?
I use Titanium Media Sync to sync to my Dropbox. I take it you don't want to use up the remaining gig on your Db?
SugarSync always works very nicely with syncing and PC/Mac. And if I'm correct it may have about 2 GBs of storage as well.
P.S. Check the sig for a referral.
I didnt even know DB had a limit. Is it based on what are in the folders or overall uploads?

Photobucket works too. At least to the cloud. You'd have to pull it from there to the pc. If you're around the house you could always send them over wifi with shared folders if you don't want to plug in the phone.

I had the same need and first tried out Titanium Media Sync (on HTC Desire) but was annoyed to learn that you only have limited options for the sync (currently "continuous" and "single one way"). I needed the app to upload (and unload) photos and videos from the device to a network location, ultimately to free up space on the device. However, with the continous sync, any files deleted on the device will result in deletion on the network as well; which does not provide much of a backup.
I ended up with Syncness, which is exactly what I needed. You can configure it to sync only with specific networks, at specific hours of the day, only at A/C power, etc. (the latter is in all fairness also supported by Titanium). It can even save original file dates/info to the remote location. You can also ask the app to delete the synced files once they have been copied to the remote location. Syncness ftp's the files to my Synology FileStation NAS server on my home network - I'm not sure what other transfer protocols are supported.

Is there a way to sync data between my Xoom and Evo 3D, preferably wirelessly? I'd like to be able to sync pictures and videos or other files.
This is a good question. I have a Desire and we should seek a solution that would work between different kind of android devices and also perhaps between more than two devices.
So far I'm using two apps to do this, but not an ideal solution yet. The data sync is more kind of a workaround.
Syncing pictures/video/folders
-Titanium Media Sync [https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.MediaSync] to sync folders between device and either dropbox or ftp. This works quite well, but I still need to do it kind of manually it feels. Not 2-way. I need to manually sync folders from my ftp(originating from desire) to my Xoom when i see it necessary to update. But it automatically uploads folders of my choosing to ftp/dropbox. The app is still being actively developed, and it keeps getting better. I like all the options for choosing/filtering files to be synced, but it may look difficult at first. There are options to sync immediately when you say take a picture or wait until the device is on a charer/wifi.
Syncing app data
-Titanium Backup [https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup] to sync app data for spesific apps/games back and forth. I do this for the games I currently play when i want to pick up from the progress I had on either phone or tablet. Make a new backup of game. Long hold on game in backups-list. Choose "send backup" and send to mail or dropbox folder. Download on other device into titanium backup folder. Go into Titatnium backup on that device and find the new backup you just copied in there and restore it.
The best thing would be to just sync the entire titanium backups to Dropbox and the do the same on the other device and it woul sync, but I do not dare to test if that would work... anybody do that?
There are also other similar apps that do these kind of syncing, I just happened to allready be using titanium backup. Also, there are apps that spesifically sync the data (game progress) of popular games like angry birds.

i will try media Sync. I want to find something I can sync data on my Mac too it possible
If you sync to dropbox with titanium media sync it would be updated on your mac (in your dropbox folder). But remember - it's a one-way sync so files wouldn't sync back the other way. Not everyone needs it to though... And I don't know if that's even possible. You could anyway access stuff through the dropbox app of course..
Btw. I just remembered the two other big alternatives:
Dropsnap
https://market.android.com/details?id=me.ctso.dropsnap
Sugarsync
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sharpcast.sugarsync
I haven't tried them myself but one of them would probably also do a great job for what you wanted. Dropsnap seems a bit simpler in function than t. media sync and sugarsync seems to rely on having their software on your computer. I allready had dropbox so I didn't want one more sync/cloud service

I am looking for an app that will let me use my Lumia to connect to the shared folders on my home PC while connected to my home network via WiFi. I want to be able to connect as my PC user account, browse to a UNC path (e.g. "\\DESKTOP-PC\Pictures"), and download/transfer files from the PC to my phone... all without the need for any server software or additional setup on the PC.
I see the "ShareFolder" app in the marketplace (for $2.50), but there is no trial, and few reviews. Does anyone know if that app will suit my needs (one review makes me believe it won't, but the description indicates it will)? Or can anyone recommend a solution?
Thanks very much for reading!
Depends on how much space you need to have for "sharing" and what you need to do. The ShareFolder app can let you look at pictures, but you cant open any other file types on your phone. Not very useful.
I highly recommend using SkyDrive, as now they have a Desktop Folder, just like Dropbox, and then your computer doesn't even need to be on. But space is not huge....
The SkyDrive app is free but there are other apps for SkyDrive
Or, if you don't want to bother with a SkyDrive folder on your desktop, you can check out Allway Sync - it runs off your computer and automatically syncs your specified folders just about anywhere, including SkyDrive. I have the Pro Version and LOVE it!
Otherwise, you have to pay for a "big" cloud space or run a server off your puter, as far as I know.

Why hallo thare!
As you see in my signature I have a Gnote and a Asus Infinity and my home PC is a MSI GX740 with Windows 7. My idea is that I want to sync some folders so they look all the same on all three devices. The method would be when they all are connected to my home Wifi they shall sync a certain folder. Another neat thing is that everytime I get home and connect my phone or tablet to my Wifi it shall upload the DCIM/Camera dir to my PC so I dont have to mess with that
Is this possible?
Thanx in advance

For sure it's possible, but why not give a chance to e.g. a dropbox. It gives all functionality you ask for, with uploading camera pics directly to dropbox folder on my lap, all folders in dropbox synced in all my units

I was looking for something similar and decide to use box.net as backup/sync tool.. Whenever I do something in one of the folders stored in box, it automatically syncs to the cloud. Then when I use the box app in my tablet, phone or desktop, all the files are synced.
I read somewhere about auto upload photos, but not sure if it was with box.net or dropbox.
hope this helps

Photo sync (camera upload) from a phone works in dropbox, and you have to choose an option whether any data connection or wifi only.
Try Sugarsync.

Faced with a similar need, I worked with a family member in another city to set up a private "Cloud" using FTP. I back my files up to his system, he backs his up to mine.
The PC apps are Filezilla server and client for the FTP functions. SyncBack is an automated backup/sync program. Those take care of PC to PC transfers and syncs.
The android app I chose is FolderSync.
Try GammaSync
For PC-to-Android folder synchronization (only one-way at the moment) I developed a free app which does not require external cloud storage services (like Dropbox or SugarSync). Check GammaSync. It's available on the Play Store. Maybe you'll find it useful

Has anybody found a way to sync either Skydrive or Dropbox documents on RT?
I know there's both Skydrive and Dropbox app for RT but they're glorified viewers at best. There is no true syncing.
And that is putting a big damper in my work flow.
Are there any other options out there? Even a different service that can sync a few documents?
Hi,
I think sugarsync lets you sync files in any platform (they say they do, but I am not a user, can't say for sure).
If you confirm that, please let us know.
Good luck.
Sugar syncs when you start the app. It checks for any changes, that way it doesn't run all the time.
This isn't the same as Syncing, but it makes everything available to you (when connected to the internet) without taking up any space (unless you copy something locally):

Yeah, this is not much different from Skydrive app - except that it works on the Desktop app.
As for SugarSync, I don't see Windows RT app on their website. Have yet to check the Store and see if it's available.

Actually, SugarSync does make a local copy. Its syncs when you start the app as opposed to continuously.
I don't think that we will see a continuous monitoring and sync that will run on a non jail broken device. RT is limited to "metro" apps to save battery life. Basically non-foreground apps are suspended with few exceptions and those exceptions are limited. (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/04/17/reclaiming-memory-from-metro-style-apps.aspx)
Allowing realtime sync would force the system to wake up and check, eating battery life, even if the notification of the change used some sort of "push" method.
That being said, I am shocked that MS didn't work on a solution to that for SkyDrive. It would have given them a definite selling point. Of course, Dropbox and all of them would go nuts.
I use Filebrick app - hands down the best available file explorer - I actually paid for it its so good. It syncs all your cloud files, Google drive, skydrive, dropbox, box, even facebook images/videos, picassa, twitter, etc.

When you say it syncs, do you mean it provides a local copy of the items? I'm guessing that's what you mean but just wanted to be sure.

I don't think there is a need for the app to run in background. I wouldn't mind having SkyDrive sync all my files when open the app. At any given time (especially with selective folder sync like in Desktop app), there wouldn't be a whole lot of files that needs to be synced each time you open the app.
Ideally would probably be something that can sync on a schedule (as an option), but that automatically syncs when plugged in. WP7 had this feature (one of the Multitasking APIs introduced in Mango) and it would make a slot of sense for WinRT to have as well... I haven't checked, though. In general, synching on startup would be sufficient (and should definitely be present), but sometimes that's awkward or annoying (synching lots of files and expecting them to be present without further interaction, or synching a large amount of data that will take too long to leave the app open for, or...)
Just an update:
There's an app called SkyDrive RT Sync in the store that claims to sync SkyDrive with a local folder. I'm going to give it a try and see if works as advertised.
Here's the developer page:
http://uksbsguy.com/blogs/doverton/...ydrive-sync-for-windows-8-and-windows-rt.aspx
I use this method http://social.technet.microsoft.com...backup-of-windows-rt-local-storage-en-us.aspx
I would take a minute to read up on what the commands do , so you know what you're getting. If you're on the same network as a desktop/laptop w/ a dropbox folder, you can sync over the network.
Also worth reading: http://bgtechrants.blogspot.com/2012/11/windows-rt-and-offline-files.html?m=1

hi all,
i used to sync my photos in full res (and custom folders too) with my pc, using daemon sync. now i switched to an ssd (less capacity than my old hdd), moved my backup on an external hdd, and i wanted to continue syncing my files there; but, daemon sync won't let you change directory with a non-empty one. so question is, is there a good software to do selective backup from android to windows? one which makes a check of the files already backupped, and only copy to my pc the missing ones?

Don't know if this will answer your question, but I sync everything with google. Every Android phone has 2 photo apps, one called gallery and one called photos. In Photos, you can choose which folder to backup and when you're on your Gmail, you can click on the menu and see all your photos which are backed up from your phone. This way all your pictures will be tied with your google account and available online from any device without taking up space.
i already sync with google photos, but not in full resolution (the only way to make them not taking up space), moreover i still prefer to have a local copy too...
