Calling all DEVs Moto G CDMA (XT1028/31) variants CM12 issues - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hey guys & gals,
The CM Team started nightlies for the Moto G 1st gen (falcon) a while back and as before they were supposed to have multivariant support(to include XT1028/31). However this time the CDMA devices only have incoming calls and text and no data. We've posted in the official thread here to let the OP know of the issues and to let the maintainer for the falcon devices know. But there haven't been any official replies/announcements. So some of the code junkies who own the CDMA variants started a dedicated thread. You can find the thread here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3036120
The thread contains all logs, attempted fixes and theories to date. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Regards,
Chris

CDMA (Prepaid) is dead in the developing world. Just get gsm or gsm/cdma devices. I agree its absolutely ridiculous but its just how it is. I owned the boost moto g and ended up breaking it (hucked it across a room and onto the floor). but while i had it i told myself... look.. look at all these prepaid cdma devices. they are so cheap and plentiful but devs just dont like them.. i guess i will have to conform. Then i got a Moto G 2014 through consumer cellular.. It seems to be evened out in the non prepaid areas (cdma to gsm) but sprint prepaid mini companies just dont attract the attention that big guys like sprint, att, us cellular, and verizon do.
The short and simple. Buy a new phone (Unless you want to delve into development and work your brain out.. ALOT)

@CurbThePain Thanks for the post but...I'm already well into theming and development...I guess this news goes along with the coming Easter holiday because if CDMA development is dead then the Moto G just was resurrected, the CDMA data issue is solved for the Moto G CM12 as of this afternoon the code is being cleaned up as we speak. Not to mention the official soak test is well underway with an official 5.0.2 rom in the wild. I have a Nexus 5 and a Moto X 2nd Gen on T-Mobile, you shouldn't assume people just have one phone. ... I use my Boost phone for work so if I'm on a roof and it drops it won't cause a fit of rage or thoughts of suicide. Not to mention 45 bucks for 5GB of high-speed data on an MVNO subsidiary isn't bad. CDMA will be around till at least 2020 according to most articles released by the primary CDMA carriers.

Mods feel free to close this thread. Mission accomplished!

Wow...that's strange its one of the most developed for devices around. The 1st gen has official support for CM, AOSPA, PAC, Slim, Dirty Unicorns and almost all the major after market roms CDMA included. Has support for CWM standard and swipe, TWRP and Philz...I've actually enjoyed it.

[Q] Moto g on sprint

I'm looking to get my mom on a framily group on sprint but when I went to look at the phones available I didn't see the moto g. This would be the perfect phone for her because she wont be doing much on it. Anyone know if there is a moto g compatible with the sprint network. I guess my next question would be is there anything like the moto g(droid mini, razr i) that would work on the sprint network.

[Q] Question: Repair or Moto G 4G LTE

About two months ago, I dropped my LG Optimus G. Best and fastest Android phone I have owned, worked great.
It cost $160 to replace the screen and don't reply to me about replacing it myself, I do not have the time or the patience for that, I have way too many unfinished projects.
In the interim, I bought a unlocked AT&T Go ZTE Radiant. While that works fine, it's quite a bit slower to respond than the Optimus is and Shopkick crashes constantly.
Problems I never had on my Samsung Infuse 4G or the LG.
So I want to banish this device to emergency status. The final straw is the poor low light (even with the flash) photos it takes.
The 4G LTE version of the Moto G is not quite available yet (Amazon is saying 4-7 weeks now) and there's no announcement of a GPE either.
I use AT&T so even the GPE of the Moto G would be 4G (like the Radiant) and should work in Latin America (where I am going later this year). LTE would be nice, but I can live with 4G.
I just hope I am not barking up the wrong tree and believe that having a quad core phone would solve many of the problems I currently deal with on the Radiant.
The LTE also has a sd card slot, so I'm pretty locked onto that version of it.
Thoughts and Suggestions?

[Q] International or AT&T Model

Hi guys. I am a huge fan of Android, especially when It's LG. I am currently using the LG G2 with CM12 and all.
I'm really interested in the G Flex 2 and have been waiting for more than a month now for AT&T to sell it. I use AT&T with straight talk, and have been for 3 years now. So I'm down to a major decision
1: Buy international unlocked G Flex 2, and continue to use it with straight talk
2: continue waiting for AT&T to sell the phone, and buy it off contract for Straight Talk.
What should I do? Do international phones support LTE in USA? From what I hear there is no LTE in other countries, so does that mean it will lack the radio?
Please help with with the Pros and Cons of getting the International version.
One pro is that, International models may include FM radio band, like the International G2.
_____
I plan on rooting and flashing the G Flex 2. Do you think the AT&T model will have better support from the Cyanogen and dev communities?
I have the H955 (European) model and live in the UK.
I'm not sure where this talk of no LTE outside the US is coming from, almost all phones and networks in the UK offer LTE these days and the flex 2 is no exception.
Since the US and European versions both have LTE I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that all versions do.
As for development, in my experience international models tend to get a bit more attention.
International models are available to a much wider community than the US variants, allowing people from all backgrounds to help out.
This also, sometimes, leads to mods and tweaks that you never thought you'd need.
I would recommend the international model, as long as it's compatible with your carrier of choice.
I wish I could be more help with your decision but this is the extent of my knowledge on these issues.
Thanks for the Insight, I went ahead and purchased the H959 (HK) Model.
@Traceguy does any model G flex 2 work here in the USA on AT&T LTE? I thought some models are missing certain bands / frequencey?

The model I used (H959) did work on LTE in the USA. I cannot say for certain about other international versions. It was a great phone throughout my usage.
I recently switched over the a Nexus 6P. Great phone. I had to cut my sim card down though. We now have nano card sizes. The Nexus 6P seems to be doing a good job. I have no interest in replacing it with a Pixel. I'll probably keep my N6P for another year.

XT1548 Where to buy???

The CDMA version of this phone(XT1548) is elusive. You cannot order it from motorola.com as it is not even an option. Their customer service directed me to Verizon which is annoying since they do not carry it. Looking at the specs on Droid Life, I tried each carrier site listed for this version. US Cellular is the only company to offer it but they WILL NOT ship it unless your billing address is in one of their tiny coverage cities and in my case it is not even available in my state. Who has this phone and where can you buy it? I want it! Please help if you know, thanks.
Sprint and Sprint MVNOs still do not have any stock or information on their websites yet. Sprint employees don't have any information.
The sooner the better.
To add to this sad news, I noticed that only the 8GB/1GB factory firmware has been posted here which leads me to believe there might not be a 16GB/2GB model available when it does go on sale. I guess we're just going to have to settle for what we can get.
EDIT: On the bright side there are many happy customers with the 8GB/1GB model.
As of today for the Sprint network...
Virgin Mobile (USA) has the XT1548 listed on their site for $149. Will require a year of service before being released. Unlimited data plan is available.
Neither Boost Mobile or Ting have the XT1548 available.
I think I did see the Virgin mobile one but it is only 1gb and I think you have to buy coverage with it, but thanks for the heads up. I am trying out an xt1540 GSM 2gb alongside my moto x which is Verizon unlimited. The moto g is definitely faster smoother, better battery and much better camera but still too big but maybe I'll get used to it. I'm praying the CDMA version will come out in the 2gb flavor on their site and I'll sell this one for it.
Best Buy Here.
thanks so much, just wish they had a 2gb/16gb CDMA model available, but it looks like they did that on purpose. If there was a teardown available for this 3rd gen moto g then I would be tempted to attempt to swap the motherboard and ram from the 2gb gsm model to the 1gb CDMA one. I doubt it would be that easy, but I can always hope...
Why?
Why do you think they did it on purpose?

RAM on phones is soldered down and very small, so you probably won't be moving it from one motherboard to the other. The motherboard also contains the baseband, so putting a GSM motherboard in your CDMA phone would just give you a GSM phone with mismatched antennas.
I'm curious if the CDMA version only has 1GB/8GB to save space on the motherboard for CDMA radio components. I thought this was basically all handled in the Snapdragon SoC, but maybe CDMA requires more components on the motherboard and that's why these other specs suffered? More likely, though, it's just that the CDMA carriers wanted a cheaper price point for the device/higher profit margin at launch.

Weirdness, a (claimed) Verizon branded XT1540

I was looking at a local ad (listed only as a verizon motorolla phone) and asked the owner for some of entries in the "about phone". This is what I got;
“Model number moto g ( 3rd generation ) android 6.0”
“Build number mpi24.65-25.1”
“Sku xt1540”
“Version p2b”
“Ram size 2.00 gb”
“Serial number zy2237n329”
The pic shows verizon service (LTE) and it has a top speaker that could be 3rd gen, or it might be 2nd gen since I can't compare it to the bottom speaker (pic's bottom is cut off).
I'v emailed about the imei and maybe a swappa check can give me some additional info on the model number. Willmyphonework doesn't have any verizon compatible model listed and they seem pretty up to date to me.
The seller doesn't seem tech savvy at all, and does seem legit/trustworthy. Buuuuuuut, everything I'v seen contradicts the existence of a verizon version. Straight up scam? Did a few 3rd gens squeak out of verizon before just before the 4th gen release? Or ??
Any insight would be appreciated, as a trip to check it out is over a mountain range, and I'd rather not waste the time if it's an impossibility.
some extraneous info removed
Xt1540 is international, unlocked gsm, any sim will work, same device i have, get it, you'll love it

I think OP is concerned with the Verizon piece here... Verizon is a closed network CDMA carrier, their branded handsets are extremely locked down. From what we have seen there is no Verizon variant of the Moto G 2015 and it is incompatible with their network, bringing the sale post the OP is refering to into question of legitimacy. To my knowledge the only Verizon compatible Moto G models are the original Moto G (XT1028 variant) and the new Moto G4 series.
Also, the XT1540 is the North American variant, not "international"... there is no all encompassing "international" version, all Moto models are region specific. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_G_(3rd_generation)#Variants
