[Q] Question: Repair or Moto G 4G LTE - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About two months ago, I dropped my LG Optimus G. Best and fastest Android phone I have owned, worked great.
It cost $160 to replace the screen and don't reply to me about replacing it myself, I do not have the time or the patience for that, I have way too many unfinished projects.
In the interim, I bought a unlocked AT&T Go ZTE Radiant. While that works fine, it's quite a bit slower to respond than the Optimus is and Shopkick crashes constantly.
Problems I never had on my Samsung Infuse 4G or the LG.
So I want to banish this device to emergency status. The final straw is the poor low light (even with the flash) photos it takes.
The 4G LTE version of the Moto G is not quite available yet (Amazon is saying 4-7 weeks now) and there's no announcement of a GPE either.
I use AT&T so even the GPE of the Moto G would be 4G (like the Radiant) and should work in Latin America (where I am going later this year). LTE would be nice, but I can live with 4G.
I just hope I am not barking up the wrong tree and believe that having a quad core phone would solve many of the problems I currently deal with on the Radiant.
The LTE also has a sd card slot, so I'm pretty locked onto that version of it.
Thoughts and Suggestions?

Just bought my LG G Pro 2 D838

I have just bought my LG G Pro 2 off eBay for £320 from a UK stocked supply so hopefully will be getting it tomorrow. I am on the Three network so 4G should work fine, although the 800 band 4G won't be supported when they roll it out in the rural areas, but I don't mind that. I currently have an iPhone 5S and iPad, and having previously had all android devices I have just never been able to get into the Apple products, I think they are way over rated, so the iPhone and iPad I have are going on eBay next week, and this LG G Pro 2 will be a compromise over having 2 different devices ). I have read so many positive things about the G Pro 2 and they aren't loaded with stupid technology you don't need, and they are cheaper than Samsung phones. I was looking at the Sony Z Ultra as they are selling them for £250 on Expansys, but I felt it was too big, and many reviewers said the screen wasn't bright enough and the battery isn't removable. So what are your opinions for those of you who already have this phone?

Congratulations on your purchase. You're going to love this phone. The screen might be on the bigger side but I find it perfect for reading on the go and playing games. The minimal bezels and the amazing battery life are such a treat to have. and it has a much slimmer profile than I had expected. All the best for using the phone. Do feel free to reach out to the community if you have any queries or issues :good:

Hi there everyone the phone arrived today, am very impressed, I think the screen is better than my iPhone 5s which is going on eBay next week lol. It blows my iPad air out of the water too, I have always been disappointed with the display on the iPad air. It reminds me of a TN panel on a budget laptop.
I can see this LG G Pro 2 serving me well, its easy to use and I love the UI, which am surprised about as I normally like vanilla stock android. It just seems to work. I can't believe LG hasn't released this phone in the UK. I think it would do very well as far as phablets go. I'll update more as the day goes on.
I haven't seen any FM radio by the way. If you have unlimited data plan just stream it on one of the many radio streaming sites.

I have received mine yesterday evening and it's gorgeous. What a beautiful screen. As I have a G2 as well the speed seems the same, may be sometimes a little faster.
B.t.w. I cannot select "swype" from keyboard. I could on my G2. Is that normal? Okay I have installes Swype for now but the G3 keyboard wolud have been nicer.

I already rooted my D838 and have installed the G3 keyboard as well. But that doesn't give you the trace function on the D838. I searched a bit further and found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531417 where is described how to enable the swipe/trace function. After edit my build.prop swipe is working fine with the LG G3 keyboard. Also G2tweakbox xposed addon works really well on our D838.

Hello all
Does any of you know about the availability of the D837 version in Europe (particularly UK) all I can see on eBay is the D838. My concern is that the D838 only supports 1800 / 2600 on 4G. I am with "Three Mobile" which as I understand mainly uses 800. I can see that the D837 has better frequency support on 2G and 4G which is more useful to me as Three user and also because I travel quite often.
I don't have much information about the F350 model but I can see on eBay being sold from Korea or China (I rather buy from a UK seller), does any one know which frequencies this version supports.
And the last question to the OP (or anyone in a similar situation). I can see that you have bought the D837 and using Three mobile, have you had any issues so far, how does the 4G performs?
Your help would be much appreciated.
LTE bands
I have the F350s, and in the hidden service menu you can choose other LTE bands, and other GSM frequency's then what is listed in the phone spec. For example I'm in the the US on AT&T and LTE band 17 is a option and works great.
this phone is a hidden gem....
I've had my LG G Pro 2 32GB for a couple of months now, it's the best phone I've had since my Sony Xperia Z Ultra 16GB. But now it's time to move on to another device so put it up for sale. It's a shame LG messed up the D83810F update, looking forward to G Pro 3 if LG bother with it.

D837 is rare. i wanted to buy one in HK (the seller advertised it) but it was just a sales tactic to get people in the door. most phones from here will be the F350 or D838.
i use GiffGaff in the UK which is on the O2 network so i'll be on 3G when I come over later this month.
While 3 does use some 800MHz, the official line from them is your device needs to support 1800MHz.

Moto G vs Moto G LTE

I'm deciding to buy the moto g
in canada, i'm on wind, so i have to get the aws version, and here's where it gets interesting
because i have to get the aws version, i have to buy it the moto g 16gb at 230$ or the moto g lte 8gb at 225 (plus 15$ unlock code probably)
wind doesn't have lte, so it doesnt really matter in that regards other than future proofing
sd card is nice, i have an 8gb from my phone that i'll pull in it, but 16 is enough too probably
other than that, rooting would be good, but that would be voiding the warranty because u need to unlock the bootloader, so i'm not so sure what i want to do in that regards
the android os support is already good by motorola, so i dont really see the end for custom roms, but i do use apps that requires root (greenify and adblock and xposed framework from the top of my head)
not so sure about the 4g/lte version about that, seems like u cant root it yet (?) and there's no xda for the newer version
any opinions are welcomed

well, if you don't use 4g you should buy the original moto g, the reason i would pick the 3g moto g if motorola will stop the support you can always go for CM (official) or other custom ROMs, for the 4G version development is pretty much 0. So long term, the original moto g would be my choice, but that is just my opinion.
BTW, if you play many games and need a sd card you should go for the Moto G 4G, i am a casual player and i don't feel the need for extra storage, but again, that is just me . Nevertheless no matter what you choose it will be a minor differences.
i dont install junk on my phone, so that's not really a problem
is there any reason the lte version isnt getting any development (yet?)?

So far as I gather, it's because the LTE version has only just been released.
I personally went for the LTE version primarily because of the MicroSD card; it ultimately seems like you're paying about the same price for a phone with slightly more advanced capabilities.

As Moto G came 6 months before the LTE version, the big brother took all the attention of the developers. It's still too early to call that the LTE version won't get any development, just might take a bit longer. I remember it took about 2 months for the original moto g to get any custom rom...
However, you may consider the fact that by coming 6 months later, the LTE version is supposed to get original update for 6 months longer ! :fingers-crossed: (assuming the 18 months life period for a device )
For the Moto G LTE, I don't see why you should have any trouble rooting it or needing to buy unlock code if you purchase an unlocked version, which is sim unlocked and will allow you to unlock the bootloader from Motorola website, no doubt there will be a custom recovery available for it so you can flash SuperSU then, no need for custom roms.
If the only reason you want the 4G LTE version is storage i suggest you look at these two links, so you don't end up with a 8gb phone and unable to use storage.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783238 https://forums.motorola.com/posts/7e59cc7baf
Some sd cards do not work on the device atm motorola is looking into it howerver no idea if it will get fixed the cards in question are generally class 10 and UHS however it includes some others aswell.
I have the original moto g xt1032 with the 16gb storage. firstly, 4G doesn't really matter because do you really need 4g just to look something up ? or just to check the weather 3G is fine. (where I'm living I only have 2G and I still live with it). secondly, I love having the otg support because u can plug in any flash drive and away you go and you can plug in USB into computer without putting it into an adapter like the sdcard. I'm not a heavy user I have used up 5 GB of my storage with games and still works perfectly that's my personal taste. but everyone has different choices and tastes
just a bit of clarification, for some reason, in canada, it seems like motorola has some sort of agreement with rogers/fido and the 4g version is ONLY available at rogers/fido, so i have to buy a (sim) unlock to use it with my carrier, wind
I'd say to go for the LTE variant given the price difference.
If you travel abroad the LTE version has pentaband HSPA which could come in handy, whereas the XT1032 won't work on HSPA outside of North America.
Plus if you switch back to the big three at some point (certainly not because they're giving you a cheaper deal...) you get to use that LTE you'll be paying through the nose for.
As far as custom ROMs go, I've got TWRP building and booting on my XT1045, although I still need to work on the fstab for it to work to my liking. Will make a thread once I've got something worth releasing. Ultimately I want to build OmniROM for it.
I bought a 64GB Kingston microSD card (model SDCX10/64GB) and it works like a charm.
My impression is that custom ROMs should make their way to the LTE model over time, the phone shares essentially the same board as the 3G variants, so it's not a huge step for a dev to support both devices so long as there's quality feedback and bug reports.
Quick question: fido says
Network and Wireless connection
LTE : AWS/2600/900/700 MHz
HSPA Bands: 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz
GSM Bands: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Download/Upload Speeds: HSDPA 42.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps
Bluetooth® 4.0
Wi-Fi®: 802.11 b/g/
I'm not sure if you are confirming it, but does this mean it will work with Wind?
The GSM (non lte) version says HSPA 1700 (aws), but the LTE version doesn't say aws beside it. Or is all HSPA 1700.. AWS?
I would go with LTE version, for the same price you get an extra feature, which will be better for resale and options in the future. Miscorsd card slot that can hold 32 gigs. There is no downfall in getting it, even if you don't need the features.
For absolutely no price difference, OFF COUSE get the LTE version... OMG... I'm really surprised there's people saying you should buy regular version... Even if you are not planning to use it now, having such great features for about the same price is definitely the way to go...
at the end of the day we're only giving opinions people. it's the buyers choice based on reviews which version he wants to get. no need to tell that you should defiantly buy the LTE version or 3G one. it's the persons choice so don't argue about which one he buys. just post reviews

that's good .I cut my normal sim card to micro sim myself and now my sim card is jammed into sim port
If you're living in a non LTE area, IMHO the only real advantage of Moto G LTE against the G is the gyro sensor. Card slot is a plus but it only comes with 8gb internal memory, that's a big disadvantage of the Moto G LTE. So i don't see it as an upgrade over Moto G. It's just another model for LTE martkets. Development wise Moto G is pretty popular, you can find it officially supported by all android dev teams. The development fate of the Moto G LTE still remain in dark.

[Q] Should I buy a Moto G or Galaxy S3 for T-Mobile?

I'm on T-mobile and have used the LG G2x for quite a long time now and it really sucks even after trying out so many different roms including CM7. I can't afford something great like the S5 so the Moto G and S3 (a refurbished one from eBay) seem like decent choices for me. I know the Moto G is newer and might be getting the Android L update so it seems like a greater choice. Plus I would be ordering it from Motorola's site and getting the 4G LTE version with the microSD slot for about $219. The refurbished S3 on eBay is $224. I'd just like to know which seems like the better deal, pros and cons, and good support for rooting. Alternate phone suggestions are also welcome. Thanks

Upgrade is available soon, but new 2015 flagships look less than desireable

So as the title states I am due for an upgrade soon with tmobiles jump program and I currently have the HTC One M8.
Had it not been for the lack of LTE radio bands on this device I would be keeping it.
I have been looking at newer 2015 flagships and none have really stood out and said "buy me", which seems rather sad to be honest, anyone else feel this way?
I am considering jumping back a generation and getting the iPhone 5S 64GB since it has the storage I want and all the radio bands I would need with tmo launching new towers and that if I did choose to jump to an mvno of ATT I know it would work.
I had considered two android flagships which are the LG G4 and the Samsung Galaxy s6, but im still not sold on them completely.
Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts about this?
If you want or need support for Band 12 (700 MHz A-block), no iPhone will provide it, unless Apple decides to provide it in the next version.
Otherwise, if I was getting a top-of-the-line phone, I'd be considering the G4, mainly for the SD slot and removable battery. IMO, Samsung ruined the S6 by getting rid of those features.
I would wait to see what motorola puts out. The droid lineup and the motoX have been great phones. Moto usually does their flagships later in the year and this will be the second set of flagship phones they release under Lenevo.
I just got the LG G4, going from the Note 4. Leant charge as fast and runs the Bart down 75% Bart with th browsing for an hour. Button on the back taking some getting used to. But yes it has to have sd slot and removable batt.
---------- Post added at 06:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:18 AM ----------
Btw on first jump plan, every 3 months new phone plus tax
I started to look more into the LG G4 yesterday afternoon and later that night to see if it would be something I could get behind and for the most part I can see myself using it.
I do like that it has the ability to swap batteries and take up to a 2TB sd card, which could be handy in the long run.
Ultimately I just wanted a device that was able to move seemlessly across tmo and att without much restriction other than getting the carrier unlock. Knowing now that the G4 H815 is the same model on tmo and att its practically a no brainer.
The only one downside I will not like is that despite it having a premium feel due to the leather, it is still ultimately a plastic device. I love my HTC One M8 and its build quality, but the lack of LTE band support slays me. Why introduce a device with only band 4 and 17 for LTE? I mean my wife and I were driving across rural west Texas the other day and she was pulling 4G LTE where I was barely pulling 2G, what was HTC Thinking?

I was considering a 1st gen moto X when they first launched, but at the time I had an LG G2 and was enjoying that device. I have seen the steps moto has made from some of the earlier droids and I have been impressed especially with the new Moto X. If Tmo had a way to get it on their store without having to pay full price for it on motos store then I would get it id imagine.
Yea, my main device is a droid turbo. Would have gone with the moto x but I love the battery life on the turbo.

Question about the 32GB/3GB Variants

Hey guys,
So long story short, I had my trusty G3 die on me a couple months ago. I then got a hold of a practically new only ever used once G Flex for a couple hundred, and I have to say that in all honesty, it's one of the best phones I've ever used.
But now I've gotten to the point where I need more than a 720p screen, internal storage with no SD Card slot and a better camera. As well as a general improvement in specs. The G Flex 2 perfectly fits what I want in a phone, everything about it is exactly what I want...Theres just one problem.
I had the Europe/International/D855 variant of the G3, but the EU variant of the Flex 2 doesn't come with 3gb ram. Only the US one does. So I'm wondering, would an unlocked US variant work in Australia where I live? Or is there a variant that would be better suited? As long as it's a 3GB/32GB one, I don't mind.
Cheers. Hopefully going to be joining you all soon.
Tl;DR: Will a US Variant work in Australia unlocked? Is there a variant that will work better?
