[Q] firmware update over 4g network? - AT&T LG G3

I just want to get the uodate over the 4g because I have no WiFi here. Is there anyway I can do this?

Got to att website and go to a att hotspot you can get free WiFi there the website will have a list of places or just go to any at$t store and use Wi-Fi at this time you can only download ota via Wi-Fi

Actually, I'd like to know how to change this. My wife and I both got the LG G3 but on different carriers (we are in a remote area having different carriers is worthwhile). I'm not sure what we did with the setup, but mine will let my update via carrier or wifi, however hers will only let it update via wifi only, which is a pain because she has unlimited data, I do not.
I keep going over everything I can think of to set her's to operate the same as mine in this regard but I cannot find it.

AT&T LTE network blocking certain apps and websites

This thread is in semi-referance to the thread" AT&T has something in this phone" The conversation went towards saying carrierIQ was causing the problem, however after testing I can verify this isnt the issue.
Went down to the local AT&T store and spoke with the manager and showed them the problem of pulling up justin.tv on the phone. We also verified that it didnt work on their floor models of the Skyrocket and also the Vivid. He was clueless. We tried the website on the Galaxy S 2 sitting next to the skyrocket and it worked fine as well as the iPhone 4S, etc. He changed the IMEI number of the phone on my att account to the standard Galaxy s2 and gave me a new sim card then justin.tv pulled up just fine on my skyrocket. So....its verified that the problem IS with the LTE APN settings as well as the IMEI number that AT&T has on file for the phone.
I have also had problems with using the Redbox app to reserve DVD's for pickup not working over the AT&T LTE network. Also have problems with Facebook and Netflix not working over the LTE network, however this is more sporadic.
Does anyone else have any other websites that do NOT work over the LTE network besides Justin.tv?
I do not think this has anything to do with carrierIQ either. I have rooted the phone since then and installed a ROM that had carrierIQ removed. Still gettting the same issue.
AT&T has issued me a credit for $30 to compensate me for the unlimited internet package on my account and have escalated the claim to a supervisior.
The rep told me that they can only guarantee that any ATT phone will only pull up att.com and thats it. They do not guarantee any websites to work nor any apps.
Did you try changing the APN settings?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342159
hmmm, justin.tv works fine on mine.
I've never read that it was a CIQ issue. It's always been reported to be an issue with APN. PTA to be specific. You can manually create a HSPA and MMS APN and Justin.tv works just fine. The link above is a good source of info...
I also get a "web page not available" screen on Justin.tv when trying to access over LTE in Dallas.

Make sure you are using the stock browser over LTE network - its guaranteed not to work
just got my skyrocket in chicagoland, had my account provisioned by an at&t rep over live chat because it didnt work with data. I moved from iphone unlimited enterprise to smartphone data unlimited enterprise (same price); and the rep needed my IMEI and SIM card number; after a restart the data worked.
so far:
visiting justin.tv
via android browser -- bad request doesnt work.
via firefox mobile -- works.
via opera mobile -- works.
It looks like they are blocking certain stations on TuneIn Radio, I cannot stream 1310 The Ticket in Dallas unless on WiFi, but other stations work

If you change the APN settings to HSPA+ that defeats the entire purpose of having an LTE phone. At that point, you may as well go exchange the Skyrocket for the normal Galaxy S2. Correct me if I am wrong?
I was told by the manager of the AT&T store that changing the APN settings will eventually result in the phone not being able to connect to the network at all.....because you should be subscribed to an LTE data package on your AT&T account. They have different coding for LTE and HSPA, so if they dont match it results in your connection not working at all. (At least this is what I have been told)

I can also verify that Justin.tv works via Firefox mobile but not the stock browser with no APN or other settings changing within the phone. Odd...

That is true, but you're not connecting at all... that's why you can try to change it and see if it works. A lot of us are using this work around until something is done about it. Data problems everywhere- multiple forums and websites addressing this issue. In a perfect world, if we had a perfectly running LTE network, I'm sure none of us would want to use this work-around either. But we do what we gotta do...

Does your connection seem stable? Was told by AT&T that changing the APN settings would result in the phone not working at all because the line isn't provisioned for the HSPA network. However, I'm learning to take everything AT&T says with a grain of salt. Every rep you talk to will tell you something completely different.
Does visual voicemail work with HSPA APN?

All LTE devices are provisioned to fall back to HSPA+ and other legacy networks and changing the APN to "phone" would just limit your device from accessing LTE network and keep it on HSPA+ or older.
AT&T rep has no idea how these things work. next time try to talk to level 3 tech or someone actually knowledgable.
Tried the phone setting per your suggestion, thanks. Internet worked but no mms.
This situation with these phones and the LTE network is like buying a fast sports car that won't shift out of 2nd gear. LOL. What's the point of having it? If it cannot connect to LTE and work as advertised I'll prob just return it.....

I was wondering this too! I had problems getting The Ticket on Thursday over LTE, but I thought I remembered having the same problem on my home wifi. Maybe I didn't have the wifi turned on.
Testing right now, I'm still not getting The Ticket over LTE, it worked fine on my wifi this morning.
EDIT: I'm trying other radio stations in TuneIn Radio Pro and some work while others don't. I don't see any pattern yet, other than Cumulus stations not working (the power of Cumulus). I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I know that The Ticket is listed in my Android app and iPad App, but not on Google TV or Roku, so it leads me to believe they have some kind of channel provisions in their contract.

Yes, it's stable. I'm not on an LTE network yet (as a lot of us), but with the wap.cingular APN, our MMS is working.

I've listened to The Ticket on TuneIn since at least April 2010 when I got my Nexus One. I can't remember if I used TuneIn on my iPhone before that or another app. It's always been on AT&T 3G in Dallas.
It's not an overall AT&T issue, more specifically it's an AT&T LTE issue. It seems that it's directly related to the filtering of traffic that others are posting about in this thread.
justin.tv works for me on the stock browser but only if I'm connected to my local wifi network. If I try 4g, or 3g on stock it kicks back a bad request.

WiFi Calling on i727R

You guys may or may not know that Rogers offers a WiFi Calling service, same as T-mobile (they charge though, assholes).
Basically on the i727 ROMs, this isn't an option however if you flash a T989 ROM, you get the option but it doesn't right off the bat obviously. So I found the Rogers wifi calling apk from the Evo 3D, found here.
Now when I get the app into /system/app, it force closes and nothing else, even if I rename it to WiFiCalling.apk, replacing the original t-mo one. With the standard t-mo one, I just get a ER:05 Invalid SIM which I think this is because it is trying to connect to t-mo servers.
Any way to get this working with the i727R with a combination of things from similar devices?
The error is from the sim card tmobile uses a special sim card. There is no way to get wifi calling unless you use voip calls with third party apps. The point of tmobiles wifi calling is solely to make calls in areas with low coverage so they go through tmobiles network through wifi, even if you got it working how would you expect your calls to even work.

Rogers is using UMA now as well (like 2 years now). The SIM error I think it's coming from the fact that the rogers SIM is connecting to a t-mobile server rather than the rogers server.
The technology is the same and keep in mind I'm talking about UMA, this isn't the same as VoIP. I think the calls can work if we match up the libraries from the evo and use the right apk, he evo has the same chipset as us also.

If I remember correctly when I had t-mo the wifi calling still used your minutes. So the call was routed through their servers. There is no way you are going to get it to work without an active t-mo account.

Dude there's more companies in the world offering the same service. Such as rogers. If we get the files for Rogers then I'm very sure that we can get it working.
You are right about wifi calling using your minutes but that's nothing new, other carriers have that as well. Do you know how they route calls through their servers? Wificalling.apk from the ROM using the wifi calling feature in the ROM.

No error is solely from the wrong sim card, new t-mobile sim cards have something built into them to communicate with tmobiles network when uma calls are made. The sgs2 and amaze 4g were tmobiles first devices to have wifi calling changed in the way they route. I dont think ive ever seen a phone have wifi calling ported to it from another carrier. Since uma is tied to the network there is no way that calls would work when trying to use uma on an unsupported network. Calls will always have to go through some type of service such as skype, wifi calling, google voice etc... So you cant just make wifi calls work on a network that doesnt support it as there is no provider to service those calls.

Did you even read the OP? If Rogers didn't support it on their network, why are they selling it? Rogers doesn't support the phone (didn't install the apk and libraries on the phone), they do however support the service.
The SIM error is because the t-mobile wifi calling apk is looking for a SIM card, I'm wondering if someone can port the rogers wifi calling apk from the evo 3d to read the rogers SIM card. The libraries for wifi calling are already on the phone because of t-mobile having wifi calling. I'm not sure if they need to be modified or not but I know there's someone here that would know that. That person just has to run across this thread :/
First of all, T-Mobile doesn't charge for Wi-Fi Calling. Get your facts straight.
Second of all, you will never be able to "modify" another carrier's Wi-Fi calling and expect it to work on AT&T. It doesn't work that way. AT&T must support it.

Most people are assuming you want this to work on at&t, the op doesnt specify. That would obviously never work, it seems like you want it to work on rogers. Its more complicated then what your making it seems when the t989 released it didnt have wifi calling and it wasnt ported over so easily because for tmobile at least it works differently then past devices thats why the sim error is important, its looking for a tmobile sim card and specifically the newer tmobile sim cards even the older ones get that error. That being said it might work differently for rogers but if its the same porting it over wont be that easy as installing the apk and lib files. There are more components then that to tmobiles wifi calling so you may want to ask in the evo forums for all the components to make wifi calling work on the evo.

Thanks, probably the most helpful direction yet. Although I would like to point out that I wanna get it working for i727R, not i727... If I went through the bother of putting the extra R in there, I would expect people to notice it. The i727R is Rogers. I wanna get this working on Rogers, the post describes Rogers as offering the service and the entire time I only mention Rogers rather than AT&T, I don't see how most people would assume I wanna get this working on AT&T.
Unless most people don't actually read or like to post just to get their post count up regardless of how useless the post was.
I'll start checking out the EVO forums to find out how this thing works a bit more in detail tonight.

I had it worked out on older ROM on my HTC sensation, you can chek out my post at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359107
the files that makes it work are coming from kineto package (one company that makes it works for all providers).
this is why all apk(s) for WiFi calling look the same but the one for T-mobile wont work for Rogers (invalid SIM error message, or force close)
Unfortunately as I've upgraded to ICS the older lib libhtc_ril.so is no longer working, so if you have access to EVO from Rogers with latest ROm we could make it work again

[Q] Changing prl on the phne

I get very bad signal at my home. Even when i go outside in to the backyard of the home it is not any better. I know the prl has to do with what cell towers it will connect to. If i change the prl on my cell phone will virgin mobile cut my service? Reading a lot of places that maybe the only way to fix the signal problem. But virgin mobile does not allow roaming i am also reading. So what will happen if i change the prl on my cell phone to one from sprint and pick up more towers then i am suppose to?
Thanks,
Will something like this work for me to fix the signal problems i have - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-AIR...gnal-Booster-airwave-/360463338188#vi-content

To answer your questions......Changing the PRL will not cause virgin mobile to cut your service BUT if you return the phone to them with a PRL change they could void your warrenty.Changing the PRL could help with signal but it's not 100%.I have tried multiple PRL's and have gotten either no boost, little boost,or in one case worse signal. You may have to try ALOT of PRL's to get one that works best for you in your area.
To do the PRL change for the first time you need to be on the stock ROM to find out your phone's MSL.Doing this for the first time can take a long time if all the drivers for your phone haven't been loaded to your computer. Here's a list of stuff you need to do this.....Any cut app from google play, alogcat app from google play, and QPST 2.7 build 3.66 downloaded to your computer.
There should be a step by step guide on here for this.If you can't find it message me for help on this. Also please thank this post if it helps.

If do not change the prl i am set to pickup all the sprint cell towers?
If i change prl i will gain roaming so like i could use verizon's cell towers?
I found this site - http://forums.androidcentral.com/vi...l-swap-v-vm-latest-prl-sprint-towers.html#anb and i found this site - http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1725703-HOW-TO-Motorola-Triumph-PRL-Swap Are this two site the right way to switch the prl?
I also read Roaming does not work on Virgin Mobile! While roaming, you will not receive your phone calls or texts, and you can't make calls or send texts! Your data will also not work when roaming. If this true?
Where can i get the latest prl file? I see the ones on the two sites i found are from late 2011. Thought there might be a newer one out.

Changling PRLs will not allow you to use Verizon towers. Changing PRLs will only be of benefit if it provides an update of tower locations and allow you higher priority. VM users might get lower priority than Sprint users.
If you are using an old PRL, you may not have access to some recent tower installations.
VM users can only use Sprint networks. We do not have roaming privileges. Consequently, you cannot roam ... outside of Sprint networks. There are so-called hybrid PRLs, but i have never heard of anyone making one of those work. Other networks have their protocols in place and changing to a hybrid PRL is not likely to give you roaming privileges. It might provide you with the tower locations for Verizon, but that does not mean that you will be able to access them.
On the outside chance that you could, you would likely be breaking the law and certainly VM will cancel your account and/or bill you if caught.

OTA update killed all data connections

I am on T-Mobile since April and everything has been fine except the known LTE handoff issue, I just keep the phone in UMTS always.
The night of Oct 28th I received an OTA (not a system update) and I guess it changed radio settings or updated the firmware. Ever since, NOTHING I do will get the phone to pick up ANY data signal on T-Mobile. Did Verizon decide to block the Maxx from use on other networks???
On wifi everything is fine, but I get no GSM data, no Edge, no 3G, no HSPA and no LTE. I can't receive any media text messages either.
Can anyone tell me what the hell happened?

I use this as my primary/business phone so it's really unconvenient to have no data while im out and about during the day!

Try a factory reset, and reset your APN to default, and re-enter the settings. As I stated in the other thread you posted in, update is working great for me, and Verizon can't lock the Maxx/Ultra/M to their network as part of the FCC's Block C agreement.

Ok, I did the factory data reset and and it's still the same.
One strange thing I noticed is that it will say 3G or 4GLTE in the status bar right next to the signal strength, but it's grayed out, and only present when wifi is turned on. As soon as I turn wifi off, the 3G or 4G logo disappears instantly.
It did this both before and after the reset. regardless, when I'm not on wifi I have ZERO access to data networks.
Phone worked great on tuesday, and now it's pretty much useless after Verizon update. How can I roll back to the previous firmware ?
you could try replacing the radio from previous version.

Can anyone tell me what the hell happened?
100% stock Droid MAXX, on 4.4.4
23.3.24.obake-maxx.verizon.en.US
MSM8960PRO_BP_23255.127.76.00R
3.4.42-gd47915e-00002-g37bce85 [email protected] #1
Phone is non-Dev edition (as far as I know), I'd be happy to even put another ROM on this thing if possible, I know there is a MotoX ROM that also fixes the LTE issue on the Maxx.
I use this as my primary/business phone so it's really unconvenient to have no data while im out and about during the day!
Please help!

I have a droid maxx on t mobile and i have had no problem using H+ instead of LTE for txting and data here in chicago...
but last night i accepted the XLTE (1FF-obake_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU5-23-release-keys.xml.zip) OTA and quickly realized that t mobile data no longer worked. I tried to revert back using RSD lite but that failed due to downgrade protection...i was thinking i would have to just flash a 4.4.4 gummyrom over stock and move on but then i remembered i had an old twrp backup of 1FF-obake_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU4.21-release-keys.xml.zip from earlier in september
you must have an unlocked bootloader and twrp installed to restore the backup but the restore was successful and bypassed the downgrade protection...gsm carrier data was once again working...
i will post a link to my twrp backup once it finishes uploading...and if anyone else has a 1FF-obake_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU4.21 stock twrp backup they could share that would also be a huge help
ps.youre only chance to unlock your bootloader is sunshine or stumproot or another on of jcases masterpieces if it wasnt already patched by this last XLTE update

Could you point me to a walk-through for this and is it possible on a stock non-developer edition?

Go inside the Droid Ultra Original Android Development and look for thread with [Radio] in the title. The latest that comes with VoLTE update was posted by CrazyRussianXDA (this is the one inside your phone now), previous versions were by Topsnake. Create a folder called fastboot and extract the files there. You must download the fastboot tool here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790, install it into the same fastboot folder. Just follow the simple steps and yes it is possible to do it on stock non-developer version. Just for precaution, do not copy and paste the command, type them in.
So I haven't changed a thing on the phone. This morning I re-entered the SAME APN info yet again with no luck.
Today around noon, while driving my phone suddenly starts getting emails and now seems to be working fine. Even the LTE handoff issue on T-Mobile seems to be gone.
I have no clue. . . but it works now!
I GREATLY appreciate everyone's help on this matter! Maybe an issue to watch out for in coming weeks ?

Yea I have it set to automatically select network now and it's sitting on my desk in LTE mode, yet I can pick up the phone and make a call no problem.
It used to always drop the first call and then if you redialed while it was in HSPA it would make the call.
Texting working fine too.
T-mobile had told me that they were having some data issues in my area, so I wonder if being halfway across the county today at lunch did something. The original problem was definitely something with the phone because if wifi was turned off, it wouldn't even display a G, E, 3G, or 4G logo. And with wifi on, the logo was grayed out and totally nonfunctional.
but maybe talking to another tower did something with the radio. . . . . . no idea really. Shooting in the dark here!

I just applied the upgrade. Ultra on T-Mobile. I have no data anymore. I can't even pull up a web page. I am able to call and text no problem. The strange thing is at the beginning of October I moved from Verizon to T-Mobile. Verizon sent me the Android upgrade. Hopefully this will resolve itself over time. I've tried rebooting the phone a couple of times and messing with the mobile settings...but nothing. Phone info app shows me it's registered to T-Mobile and the Signal Strength is around -110dBm. It shows me GSM Service as "In service" and the GPRS Service as "Connecting", Network type LTE, GSM disconnects:==========DATA========
(UPDATE) I called t-mobile support and they were excellent. Short and to the point they stepped me through adding the APN info, and data is now working again. Prior to the upgrade it was working without any APN info. The old problems I was having with SMS messages not being sent, and having to redial 2 or 3 times to place a call are gone. My Verizon Droid Ultra is now working perfectly on T-mobile. Just ran a speedtest on 2-3 bars with 4GLTE and I got 13Mbs down and 8Mbs up
i just picked up a maxx and EVERYTHING works. lte is crazy fast as well. latest update too...

thats all you have to change...try to make a call/txt...reboot once...

No WiFi Tethering Galaxy S5 6.0.1

Hello.
I need some help with my S5. like the title says, i don't have the option for wifi tethering also i don't have the wifi calling option either.
i live outside the US (dominican republic) and i can't do the update PRL thing. i tried to do that last time i was in the US (2 months ago) but since my phone was not activated on the sprint network it wouldn't work, the hands free activation would just go on and on and on until it failed. Anyone knows a way to activate those options?
what carrier do you use? GSM, I assume. if so, a PRL isnt ever going to work. The native hotspot on a 6.0 ROM is available and there are a few threads on that very topic. I also suggest idoneapps.com for their forums regarding this device as @Nodial is a manimal!!
