Lack of roms? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any reason for the lack of stock style roms available for the Z3? I'm contemplating swapping with a friend and I currently have the Z2 and would like the Z3. Now that root on an locked bootloader is available, I've been having a look at some roms but there doesn't seem to be any? Any reason behind this? I'm presuming the Z3 is the same as the Z2 in the sense that I couldn't flash anything but the Sony stock style roms? Like I couldn't install CM12 on a locked bl?
Thanks

Youre right, you'd have to unlock the bootloader to flash custom Roms like CM.
I guess there's a lack of customized stock Roms because Sony will (hopefully) update the Z3 to Lollipop very soon. Why bother working on a ROM and going through the whole debugging process if there's such a big update around the corner? That's at least my opinion on this.
After we get Lollipop I think there will be a variety of Roms.

Yes I am ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3012376).
As soon as the root for locked bootloader was possible I was in for it. Mostly for Xposed and a few other apps.

[Q] How to go back to latest stock ROM?

Hi. I just got my Moto G few days ago and I unlocked bootloader, rooted etc. So because of unlocking bootloader I guess I will not be able to get official motorola updates any more. My phone arrived with kk already, but I had some OTA update as soon as I turned the phone on and now it runs on 176.44.1.falcon_utms.Retail.en.GB. Now I want to explore some custom ROM-s and my question is how to go back to this ROM my phone is running on right now from custom rom? In this link http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14 I can see that the latest ROM I can flash is Blur_Version.174.44.9.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB. As 176 is higher than 174 I guess that my phone is running on latter ROM.
In general, is there a way to update to latest stock ROM-s from Motorola after unlocking the bootloader?
Yes you can! I recently flash that particular UK ROM and even though it was 4.4.2 I still got an OTA update which had "rare network drops, low sound and etc" in the changelogs, so I'd assume it's the same one you mentioned earlier in your post. Also, I should mention that I didn't receive said update on my Retail Asia ROM or on GPE ROM (that's what I'm currently on). So in the nutshell, unlocking bootloader doesn't stop OTA updates rooting does.
That is good to know, thank you, but why would rooting itself stop OTA? Usually devices lose drm keys after unlocking a bootloader, I don't see why would rooting itself wipe drm... I guess you don't lose drm after unlocking bootloader than... That is very kind of Motorola.

Well the unlocking bootloader procedure is mentioned on their own website, so that could be it I guess?.

[Q] Rooted Vzw S3 with towelroot, can I flash a rom?

So I just rooted my phone the other day and I was wondering if I am able to flash a rom. I disabled Knox and things seem to be okay so far. I want to flash Cyanogenmod or SlimKat to my phone and I want to know if I need to unlock the bootloader to get a custom recovery (twrp) and install the rom. Thanks in advance!

There's only a select few for a locked bootloader, look around on the general tab, you'll find a TouchWiz 4.3 download topic.

If you have locked boot loader, which I think you are, you need to install safe strap then flash TW rom. Currently there is only one available for safestrap which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...iterom-v1-0-i535vrudne1-t2805797/post53919312

You cannot flash any AOSP ROMs when you are on a locked bootloader. It's safestrap and touchwiz ROMs that match your current build (4.3 or 4.4.2) only.

Nope, once you took the OTA 4.3 or 4.4 your boot loader is locked forever, unless someone from Samsung leaks it out for us.
EDIT: OK I was wrong, someone just got downgrade from 4.4 back to 4.1.2 with unlocked boot loader by send it out to a phone service company and the cost is $50.

If you are on an unlocked bootloader, there aren't any. If you are on a locked bootloader, there are two you can flash through safestrap. They can be found in the Android Development section.

Be happy then and keep the unlocked bootloader, even without the ability to update to a 4.4 tw rom your really not missing out on much. There are plenty of other custom roms that are even better than tw at least in my opinion

yaa..thats true..i'm using p.a 4.5 beta 2 rite now..but..now im goin on a vacation..so have to take some pictures..touch wiz wont freeze the camera rite? i used cleanrom..and that was good actually..so..i was thinking 4.4 touchwiz wud be better..cuz after using 4.4.4 kitkat on my device..rolling back to cleanrom(4.3) makes me feel like crying D

Should we drop our hopes for dev on this phone?

Not taking shots at devs AT ALL, I just want to know if it's safe to say that this phone won't have custom ROM's / Root option / Etc. any time soon. I've never owned a phone that has slower development and this is probably one of the most popular phone I've bought to date, so should I swap it out for something that DOES have customization options? Or should I just be patient?
Rooted and debloated the stock rom, very happy with it

But you unlocked bootloader to root it right? That's one thing holding a lot of people back from doing so.... OP is most likely asking about rooting without unlocking BL to backup TA DRM.
Locked bootloader root is likely to take some time and not be about any time soon. Once locked bootloader root is achieved more custom ROM's and Kernels will start to appear.
It's taking longer to obtain root due to all the new security patches what are being used in the firmware, on top of Sony RIC and DM-Verity.
There seems to be more activity with the Z5 Premium and Compact versions. I am sure that if more people were inclined to be beta-testers, devs would agree to try porting their work to our beloved device =)

Is there any roms yet?

I don't know i should get this phone so i'm wondering is there roms for this yet.

Nope but root is available if it has a unlockable bootloader. Xa isn't in the Sony open devices project with it being a mediatek powered xperia either. Besides modified stock is much better than cm or aosp I think personally from previous experience with xperia custom roms.
I'm more than happy with my xa even without root(no way to back up ta keys currently)

Yes you right, stock rom is good and updates make the phone better. As you said before XA is a mid range device and is not supported by Sony Open Project, the phone is open enough to cook some rom but we don't have any dev in the place... I tried to port/build CM13, I found almost all sources but I don't have skills to built and debug it...
Will there ever be a way of rooting without unlocking bootloader?

Doubtful, all xperia devices released since z3+(with the exception of the m5) all use dm-verity security and device encryption and have needed a unlocked bootloader to gain root access. This isn't such a problem with the other xperia devices as thru all have ways of backing up the drm/ta keys. It's not currently possible to back up the drm/ta keys on any of the x range as they all come with mm not lollipop. One of reasons I've been using a stock xa since July, I'm not prepared to loose the drm/ta keys permanently made that mistake before.

Nope, currently not possible to back up drm/ta keys on any of the x range and none of the z5 ways will work as all the x range has mm out of the box. It's currently either wait in hope that a way to back them up is found(what I'm currently doing) or unlock the bootloader and loose the drm/ta keys permanently and voiding the warranty in the process(some people aren't bothered) I've made the mistake of permanently loosing ta keys before won't be doing again.
