Please take a look at the screenshot. Each time I try to access xda via chrome, this sort of message pops up. There is no option but to press ok, which opens up another ad page and some random flash light apk starts downloading. This is quite frustrating. How do I get rid of this?
Thanks
Looks like you got adware as I don't think the xda website does that. Try getting malwarebytes for android (or other similar legit app) and see if it can find what is doing that.

I I just recently totally reformatted my hard drive because I thought I had a virus and couldn't find it. But after reinstalling everything and making sure that I didn't have anything I discovered that when I log into XDA and I stay on for some length of time all of a sudden I start getting commercials playing. How do I stop these?

Huh, I dont know what you are referring to. Screen shot perhaps? I assume whatever it is, it depends on flash and the easiest way is to disable flash. The browser I use lets you disable it per site or only enable when you click. I assume other browsers have something as an extension.

I dunno. I never have it happen on any other site. This is the only one. I don't see any ads. Its just audio. I've hunted it down and hunted it down but havent found where it is on here.

Weird. If you get something like firebug or http headers extensions on firefox, they will let you find out what external links are loading. If you can get me some sort of dump or screen shot, I can tell you what to block in your host file. Chrome has the developers tools that show the same stuff or Opera has Dragonfly, so whichever you use.
Opera though, you can right click on the page → content tab → edit site preferences → turn off plugins. That's what I do at least or disable them on all sites and enable when I need them, just for better security.
Pretty sure the other browsers have flashblock, but last I knew and don't quote me on it, flashblock runs the just for a moment before it shuts off the flash since it's an extension. If the flash happened to be malicious, that could possibly be bad. Just semi off topic, but just something that was true and may still be.
If you don't want to deal with all that, you can use my hosts file that I use on my desktop, it's smaller version of the one I use for mobile thats posted with a script to install/update it in the developer's section of the forum.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24904191/hosts-desktop
rename it "hosts" and stick it in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts on windows (must open notepad with admin privilages) or on linux/osx, it goes in /etc/hosts.
I wouldnt normally advocate for blocking ads on xda, but if they have anything that automatically plays audio, that draws the line for me.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page you're on, it's on the right side.

It's just a blank white space for me, but if you add the following line to your host file, you wont see it anymore, since it's one of these:
0.0.0.0 rt.liftdna.com track.netshelter.net cdn.viglink.com

Will flag again to the admin.
Sorry if this was asked before. I did a search and nothing showed up.
I was wondering if there was anyway to remove ads from a .apk file.
Like a link it opens to or something to show the little banner ads in an app.
How the app connects to the makers server and the server shows the ad?
I'm not sure how to explain it.
But the banner ads you see at the top and bottom of an app. There must be a way to delete the ads from the app right? Or delete a link to connect to the server maybe?
If there is a way, Please let me know.
Thanks.
Try using AdAway. Works pretty well for me

SPAM on my Android...
Okay, I need some help here. I started getting SPAM on my Android. What I get is a green star and sometimes a different green icon popping up in my top bar on the phone. When I pull that bar down, they are all ads like "Get Rich Fast" or "Sex" stuff or "Download XYZ Today".
I have looked and looked but I can not find any service or app running that will do this.
How can I stop this?

I'm afraid this kind of thread pops up so often that there should be a sticky made for it but on the off chance you didn't see any of the other threads when you searched the answer is....
Advertising. Specifically caused by one or more apps you have which push spam to your phone.
Go to play store, get free app called add on detector, use it to scan and then see what shows in its section for apps that do push notifications as the offending apps will be in there for you to see.
Once identified you can uninstall them

Yeah I've been having the same issue as well. What browser are you using? I'm on Chrome on OS 10.8.
I just started to do a google search on this. It appears it has something to do with the Adblock widget (Not Adblock Plus) that I run on Chrome. When I turn it off, I am able to see the pics just fine.
Well I can't figure out a perfect solution with Adblock and it looks like I'm going to have to look at a few ad's in any individual thread if I want to be able to see the attached thumbnails.
When in a thread that has thumbnails, you can go into Adblock and select "Don't Run on Pages in this Domain". From there you'll see a pop up with a couple of sliders. Move the right slider to the right so that "/showthread.php" is added to the domain "forum.xda-developers.com". This will whitelist "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php" so that thumbnails (and unfortunately ad's) will show up when when you are looking at any individual thread on forum.xda-developers.com. By doing it this way you can still continue to block all other ad's from the xda-developer.com domain.
Unfortunately Adblock does not allow you to blacklist parts of a page that are part of a whitelisted domain.
Hope this helps.
I thought it was the ad block that was causing the issue. Disabled the extension (using chrome as well) reload the page but the pictures show up sometimes and don't show up sometimes. Driving me nuts..
Thanks for confirming the suspicion that it was ad block.

Yeah occasionally I still don't get the thread pictures as well. Not sure why either. I just hit the reload button and refresh the screen and that seems to do it for me.

I had a friend with a similar issue - I turned him on to HideNinja VPN and it helped him. It's the only thing I can think of that may help. I'd suggest closing all tabs for all browsers. Delete the browsers you can that you don't prefer to use. Restart the device, install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cryptninja.vpn make sure the app is configured and running properly, then try running your browser. Make sure no alternate settings in your browser could be created jumbling or smashing. Give the "Desktop Version" of the site a try too.

Ok, about chrome i found out that cyanogenmod's browser is ten times faster!!! And for the ADS i wasn't aware that those were intrusive ADS(i thought that the option block popup was broken XD ), so i want to recommend all of you to do this http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/blocking-ads-in-android/ scroll down a bit and you'll find a tutorial to create an host file, normal ads aren't blocked but the intrusives one i noticed that this little file blocks them very well
