SPAM on my Android...
Okay, I need some help here. I started getting SPAM on my Android. What I get is a green star and sometimes a different green icon popping up in my top bar on the phone. When I pull that bar down, they are all ads like "Get Rich Fast" or "Sex" stuff or "Download XYZ Today".
I have looked and looked but I can not find any service or app running that will do this.
How can I stop this?

I'm afraid this kind of thread pops up so often that there should be a sticky made for it but on the off chance you didn't see any of the other threads when you searched the answer is....
Advertising. Specifically caused by one or more apps you have which push spam to your phone.
Go to play store, get free app called add on detector, use it to scan and then see what shows in its section for apps that do push notifications as the offending apps will be in there for you to see.
Once identified you can uninstall them

I am running WM6 and would like to know if there is a way to hide or remove the start menu title or window title so it doesn't show the "Start" text or title of programs on the task bar?
Much thanks for any help!
Check HERE.
Also using the xda search revealed a number of threads concerning same topic.
good day.

Thanks chopper! I just tried this and it works, but only hides the start menu text and not the title of running programs.
Cool.
Now search for your other conquest. You may have to word it in many different ways.
good day.
Just wondering, what search terms did you use to come across that file? This might help me on my voyage!
"remove start text on windows mobile task bar"
just didn't see anything on running program text. Maybe someone will roll along and say whether it is doable or not.
good day.

That's okay. I have not come across a solution either! Perhaps I should ask about how to hide the title of running programs in the "modifying and unlocking" section. At least the start text is gone now, thank you very much for your help chopper!
Tip: The search search bar all the way at the top of the site is a "sitewide" search.
I missed that detail for a while.
Have a liitle fun here.... see ya around.
good day.
Hiya,
I'm bagofbits and new to these forum's and was not sure how to contact anyone at XDA so after some after advice from LUFC (forum moderator) here is my situation.
I have a wildfire s and been viewing those forums, during the last couple of days since the change over from android market to google playground or whatever it's called these days, I've been getting a popup app in my status bar saying please download 'battery supercharger' . I've been just clearing my status bar but it just kept coming back.
Today by mistake i downloaded it and got loads of texts within minutes and ended up with a charge of £4.99, I text 'STOP' to the number given. My network provider(3) can't help and I've mailed google help about it and they have logged it and are getting back to me.
Also a number of post's on the web about it...
Anyway enough rambling, I've searched the wildfire s forum and can't see any mention of it, just thought that it would be useful to post something about it so nobody else falls victim to this.
Give me a thanks if u could please.
Cheers
Oh might be an idea to check recent downloads you have made that contain ad's that may harbor this scam.

The ad you saw in your status bar used ad over the air function.
There are some apps which will detect apps using the add. Method. And will give you the ability to uninstall it.

Try airpush detector from the market to find out what the offending app is.

THISIS50 if its hot its here
School boy error
Just to set the record straight this 'thing' auto en-roles u 'before' u text stop and it applies the charge!
If I'm guilty of anything it's downloading by mistake !
Google it and see what others are saying bout it, I was just trying to help and your criticism ain't justified.

Unfortunately this is true, you have not stopped the messages - just confirmed to the spammers that the number is live and real. 3 may be able to help you by blacklisting the numbers you are getting messages from - also have a look here if the messages persist.
This is a problem that is by no means limited to the Wildfire S - recently I recognised an app on my friend's Samsung Galaxy Ace as being malware - it was also generating notifications about some kind of battery optimizer. I managed to remove it before she accidentally signed up to anything.
Regarding the app, try some apps like Lookout Mobile Security and BitDefender . If you run a scan with these, they may find the offending app and help you to remove it. Good luck!
solution to battery supercharger text costs
saw the two text messages yesterday, spoke to Vodafone told them to block any charges today, up to which time charges hadn't gone through. So hopefully this will cost me nothing.
even if they had placed the charge, I would have asked Vodafone not to pay it, and kicked up a fuss until the agreed not to do so, or carry the cost themselves. Anybody with a mobile phone contract is in a very strong position at the moment I have noticed, getting lots of freebies off them.
thanx for ur advice
but i think it is not harmful

I had a friend with a similar issue - I turned him on to HideNinja VPN and it helped him. It's the only thing I can think of that may help. I'd suggest closing all tabs for all browsers. Delete the browsers you can that you don't prefer to use. Restart the device, install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cryptninja.vpn make sure the app is configured and running properly, then try running your browser. Make sure no alternate settings in your browser could be created jumbling or smashing. Give the "Desktop Version" of the site a try too.

Ok, about chrome i found out that cyanogenmod's browser is ten times faster!!! And for the ADS i wasn't aware that those were intrusive ADS(i thought that the option block popup was broken XD ), so i want to recommend all of you to do this http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/blocking-ads-in-android/ scroll down a bit and you'll find a tutorial to create an host file, normal ads aren't blocked but the intrusives one i noticed that this little file blocks them very well
Please take a look at the screenshot. Each time I try to access xda via chrome, this sort of message pops up. There is no option but to press ok, which opens up another ad page and some random flash light apk starts downloading. This is quite frustrating. How do I get rid of this?
Thanks
Looks like you got adware as I don't think the xda website does that. Try getting malwarebytes for android (or other similar legit app) and see if it can find what is doing that.
Hi
I just starten with android and found something weird.
If i get like 3 messages from different people and i only Read One of Them. Then the notification Dot on the app dissapears? I what it to stay until i have Read Them all. This happens to all apps like mail and stuff.
Is there a fix for this?
Have a nice day
i think the dots disappear not because you've already read all of it , but just by opening the app.
idk, maybe thats the reason. or maybe that's just how android works
