Exynos processor - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am sure many people are wondering the same thing. But since Samsung is likely using the exynos processor for this device. My concern is that I have heard that it development for exynos devices is extremely difficult due to the fact that they don't release source code like Qualcomm does. Am I wrong for my concern of the development of the S6?

that s not new concern
it s thr since Galaxy S4 (first Octa-Core Device) that forced CM team to omit Exynos Variant of Galaxy from their project

Well, development is more than just some buggy AOSP rom. I'm sure there'll be custom kernels and TW roms, also, considering that there's a new TW coming that will be cool.

A little off topic but I'd rather not make a new thread for one simple thing. I wonder how root will go since Geohot got recruited by Google.

For whatever they're worth, here are the leaked Geekbench database of the S6 and the S6 Edge. The scores are likely from a non-commercial hardware.
S6: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/search?q=avl7420
S6 Edge: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/search?q=universal7420

Well Yes Samsung Don t release the source codes for Exynos Easily
so no much custom rom for us
but it has benefits
more stable and more battery efficient
look them up
plus the new one is 30 to 35 percent more battery efficient
and 50 percent more powerful than s5

Probably the Nexus devices (One, S, Galaxy), Samsung GSII (because it sold so many units), and the more powerful/best selling HTC devices (Evo 4G, G2/DZ, etc.).
Just browse the forums you'll quickly see which phones have a vibrant dev community.
HTC's HD2. There is no device with Development anywhere near it

Thanks for that dude! Decided on next phone, can't go to far wrong with the samsungs. I want a nice variety of custom roms on this one!

Preferably something vaguely current... although I had a peek in the hd2 dev forum and it's still busy!
Actually after reading up on the specs this is still a good phone, especially for one released in 2009! Nearly same specs as my xperia play!
It might not be the cream-of-the-crop anymore, but Development-wise it smokes every other device out there. Performance is still admirable, too

It goes to show that all the talk of quad cores and such is all nonsense. Fewer faster cores is the way to go at the moment. Hardware has far surpassed software.

Exactly. There is more talk and excitement over the Tegra 3 than over the MUCH faster Snapdragon S4. The only reason the Tegra 3 gets more attention is because idiots believe that Android is actually capable of using the other two cores. Breaking News: It can't. ICS improved support for dual cores. It still doesn't fully utilize dual cores at the moment. All it can do currently with quad core devices is recognize the other two cores. It cannot actually use them for anything. Ignorance breeds stupidity when untreated.

Post-HTC One S

So what do you guys think about the next few weeks. The Samsung Galaxy S3, quad core phones coming to US, maybe new release for TMobile US. I am trying really hard to hold out on upgrading from my G2.
But I know I want to because the technology is so much better. What do you guys think will go on Post-HTC One S?
The thing that I wonder about most about the Galaxy S3 is, it will have the new quad-core Exynos chip. But this chip is based on ARM A9 on a 32nm process - our Snapdragon S4 Krait is based on ARM A15 @ 28nm. I'm going to wait for benchmarks, but I don't think that chip is going to blow away our One S at all.
Plus, if it is anything like every previous Samsung, it will be a cheap, crappy plastic build quality. Everyone who holds my One S is amazed at the slimness, weight and elegance of this phone. I'm glad that I didn't wait for Samsung.
Agreed i love my new htc one s

Agree. Last two phones have been Tmo-sgs and sgs2...plastic builds..decent phones...horrible support. Dev community was great on sgs but people not devs were unbearable on sgs2. After getting the One S its heaps better than both in build and UI. Very satisfies with phone.

The Exynos quad core destroys everything. Haven't you seen the benchmarks? Smokes the Krait and the Tegra 3.
It probably won't come to the US though, because it will probably lack LTE capabilities.
Yeah I don't believe it will be getting the quad core processor, I have read about that.
I guess I am stuck. I am due for upgrade. I have mobile freedom for once in my life... but I am very cautious to upgrade to the HTC One S with the SGS3 around the corner and talks of the Galaxy Note coming to TMobile also.
I think I would really enjoy the Note. Tablet + phone = awesome.
I will wait it out and see, but I don't think anything will be destroying the HTC One S processing power anytime soon unless you buy a universal phone for some reason. Even then, who needs 4 cores?!

i had the atet and international notes. atet note sucked, tmobile note will probably be identical. international was much better with the exynos and all the development. I liked the intl note alot but decided to trade it for the One S. its up to you but I would not get the tmobile note unless it has the exynos, which it probably will not.

I would more suggest choose phone or tablet... Phone + tablet = horrably big phone or to small tablet!
I don't think quad cores are anything to sing praises about in smartphones just yet, not until there's more to actually take advantage of them. Look at the One S vs One X, for example. Regardless of the resolution difference (which obviously has an impact), the One S certainly packs a punch against it with it's dual core.

The GS3 won't be announced till next week. After that, there will probably be an international launch, then an exclusitivity here in the states by AT&T, anywhere from 30-90 days. What this means is that even if T-Mobile picks up the phone, it won't be till Q4.

Yep trust us the S3 is not great at all the S4 in the one S is a huge step up!

Snapdragon S4 Pro vs. Exynos 4 Quad

I am sure there are a lot of threads about this, but I couldn't find a single thread where they were actually compared.
I would like to know if it is worth upgrading from a GSIII [my current device] to a device using S4 Pro. Is the performance of the S4 better than the Exynos ? Are phones such as LG Optimus G/Nexus, Padfone 2 going to be better than the GSIII ?
I hope to get an idea as to any differences there might be between them both.
Thanks
A significant factor for us here on xda is the support, Exynos failed to support our devs here and devices that have Exynos suffer for it on custom ROM scene.

Exactly.. With a huge number of devs from Team Hacksung dropping support for the SIII, I am worried there might not be much support for future versions of CM.. The amount of support that Qualcomm provides is obviously much better.
The optimus G got a locked bootloader so there will be pretty much zero development for it,don't know about the padfone 2.The upcoming lg nexus can be a good option but it won't likely have more than 16GB storage(if not just 8gb) with no expansion but yeah,if you don't care about that then get it when it comes out because S4 pro does perform better than exynos...I don't think the difference is that noticeable in real life usage tho especially with jelly bean.

Seriously? -_- The SGS3 is still a top-range flagship and you're already considering upgrading? I'm still happy with an HD2 after a few years. What are you even going to get out of it? Better benchmark performance but nothing actually noticeable. No offence to you personally, but I think that this is a completely idiotic idea.
Given the fact that I recently purchased my SIII, I can still offload it for a decent amount. I have my eyes on a few phones using the S4 pro such as the LG Nexus, Padfone 2, Mi-2, etc..
CM development on the S3 is already suffering due to devs refusing to develop for Exynos. This is only going to get worse once new versions of Android cone out.

Galaxy S4 Ditching Exynos...?!

So I'm not sure how many just read this news, but apparently Samsung is sure to ditch the Exynos Processor which seems to have always been a nightmare for the devs in the Galaxy S series due to not having the kernel source etc...
They will apparently use the Snapdragon 600, the same as the htc One...
My question actually is, how will this effect the development for this phone, as if its easier than the previous Galaxy S series, its definately worth considering for the Custom Rom junkis...

In the end Snapdragon is the winner since Exynos wont be out for most of the world until the end of the year, by which point people will be waiting for the GS5.........

It's getting ridiculous at this point. The entire Exynos vs snapdragon crap and the HTC Fanboys are over old. New and important information is one thing but my peepee is bigger than your peepee is stupid.
Yet in the UK we're being given the inferior Qualcomm S4 because the Exynos doesn't support 4G. Annoying since only one carrier has 4G and it's in very very few areas.
Quit your belly achin'! At least you get a superior GPU!
I will buy octa for sure!
Faster CPU 8 cores so you can modify them all by custom kernel + Samsung says that it saves power! + better GPU
but if it not available in my country so I have to use SD600

It's actually looking like the enhanced Adreno 320 is better right now. Of course Exynos wins in CPU though. GPU is more important to me though, and the S600 CPU will also run anything right now fluently, Exynos is overkill IMO and good for bragging rights but in day to day use, not much else.

Surely you don't believe that marketing bull****. Samsung cannot enough make enough Exynos chips until Q2 but wanted to release earlier to stay competitive, it's that simple. I wouldn't be surprised if they phase out the Snapdragon's by Autumn.

I doubt it'll work that way. Don't forget that the Note III will be in production relatively soon and the S5 by this time next year (or sooner), so why would Samsung waste resources on producing more Exynos S4s when they can soon start offering the Note III and S5 with the Exynos processors in full production? Especially when 99% of the initial S4 owners / buyers won't notice or care about what's in the phone anyway as long as it works.
First world problems:
Do you guys think it's worth waiting for the note 3? Considering a better processor, battery life, bigger screen, and the S-Pen? (I'm pretty sure I won't use the S-Pen much, but we'll see..) Also rumors today of a possible "better quality" material..?
I believe it'll be $100 more than the S4..but are those features worth $100 more?
When would the Note 3 be released?
---
I'm buying it unlocked and running it on T-Mobile.

If you wait for the next best thing to come out you will always be waiting. When the Note3 is released, something even better will be in the making and when that is released, something better than it will be on its way...
