[Q] unable to install clockwordmod recovery - General Questions and Answers

I have a Motog 1040 tx.
I have unlocked the boot loader through Motorola's website
I have SuperSU installed. I have verified using an app the phone is rooted.
This my problem installing clockword mod...
When I go through the commands in terminal manager. It says recovery. IMG not found.
I've downloaded clockwordmod recovery peregrine for my phone model and renamed
it recovery.IMG and placed it in the sdcard memory card root.
I've tried placing flash image in my sdcard root as well and used that method as well.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? The sd card is listed as sdcard1 on my device. I've also noticed that there is an emulated sdcard listed.

I used Flashify. Its in the play store to install a custom recovery. I used Philz Recovery its a modified CWD with a little better UI options i think. This is what you need to do to flash a file. You wont need flashify anymore after that cause all of your flashing will be done from Cwd. Good luck and its free

Can't Mount SD Card in ClockWorkMod Recovery

So ive been at this for 2 days. I finally got the micro sd card with both files to install rom but in clockworkmod recovery i cant mount sd card nor format or anything. I can mount and unmount in the normal settings of the device and see it in root explorer but thats it. Its formatted to fat32. also on rom manager where it says to install from sdcard it only takes u to the internal sdcard which makes no sense because i was told u cant install a rom from the internal sdcard.
PS. This is my first Android Device!!!!
yeah
I am in the exact same situation. I am rooted on 4.0.3 and I wanted to install 4.0.4 or one of the custom ROM's. This is not my first android device but I am at a loss. I can not enter fastboot, can't load anything from the SD card in CWM recovery (get the message E:Can't mount /sdcard/), can not connect via ADB on my PC.
I feel that I have enough skill to do all of this because I have done it in the past. My ADB works fine with my Galaxy Nexus (just updated that and installed new kernel) so I don't know what is causing the problem. I have tried different SD cards(3) as well and nothing.
The biggest problem is I can not get into fastboot and SBF if I wanted to. I have been having issues with drivers even though I have installed motohelper like 6 million times.
I have tried factory resets and wipes and everything. I tried to do the factory update that is being pushed to me and I get an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if this is stealing your thread but I think we are having the same problems.
check out my thread at xoomforums:
I PM'd it to u cus it dont let me put it here
Read all 3 pages. I think it will help u. posted same question there and a guy suggested to install the rogue cwm 1.5 recory via adb fastboot or whatever. he says that will read your sdcards. if i were u id try and fastboot on a different pc cus it looks like thats what we both have to do unfortunately. it looks like a pain!!! u have a xoom?

If you are using CWM recovery from Rom Manager (not recommended for Xoom) it does only read your internal flash memory (called sdcard) but not your external microsd card (called external1???). So you need to flash a different custom recovery using adb/fastboot to flash a recovery.image file or, if you can flash through cwm (from internal sdcard) a recovery.zip file (either EOS or Rogue, depending on the ROM you will flash afterwards), Actually, any custom recovery is supposed to work for any rom, but in reality Eos works best for Eos and Rogue works best for the CM9 Kang.
Please, just remember, never flash a .zip file through fastboot, only an .image file!
+1 i agree with the above, fixed this last night. I download a couple recovery images, which were blank for some reason, so i downloaded the zips and extracted the recovery image folder. Then opened the command window from the folder with the recovery image and flashed it with fastboot. Now it works perfect.

Fastboot
I had to use fastboot to flash an entire stock config when I got stuck in this loop.

Thanks for saving the last half of my hair which I hadn't pulled out yet.
Got the backup on SD ONLY after flashing the EOS recovery 1.5.0 (i tried the latest to begin with, did not work, made it worse flashing recovery from ROM Mgr)
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/mot...ing-flashing-unrooting-under-one-roof-59.html has this particular recovery listed.
I still cannot boot in recovery using power+volUP...i have to get at least adb running. Any suggestion would be golden.

This is my first attempt at unlocking and rooting. So far I did manage to get unlocked. Now I am stuck at: Can't mount/sdcard . . . . .
I have been following the thread: [HOW] Rookie Rooting, Flashing And UnRooting Under One Roof
It seems to be layed out quite well and well, I'd never have gotten this far if it weren't for following those directions. I'm not discouraged because I know this is just a stumbling block. I can't wait to kill the bloatware and see if I can O/C this beast just a little.
Good luck to the folks who posted above me. I will post my results here.
Mike P.
I think the solution is much more simple...
The recovery uses normally e: an external sd card , you just trying by d: internal sd card , so take another sd card and dun let it be internal sd card...
And the recovery back on working with you

[Q] Can't Install from zip in cwm

Hi Ya'll,
I've had successfully managed to unlock, root and install the latest clockworkmod recovery on my XT1032 (It was converted to GPE beforehand) but there is no way I could install any zip from the sd card (Well my phone doesn't have one to begin with) but would it not allow me to install from my internal SD instead?
Please let me know if you know how can I install from zip in my phone!

CWM/TRWP can't mount sd-card or data. Perhaps wrong rommanager?

HI
i need your help.
I have an Photon Q 4g LTE and want to update to CyanogenMod.
Via Fastboot and ADB i can upload CWM/TRWP successfully.
But when i start it, it cannot mount data and SD-CARD. External SD is ok.
Even if i use external-sd i cannot flash custom rom. If failed by not mounting several directories.
In another thread for Samsung i found that there are "bad rommanager" which has a virtual recovery on SD, This makes sense in my case, i cannot have access to SD-Card (internal). But i cannot find any hint how to get and flash a new rommanager. Only via app. But i have no stock rom.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you in advance.
You should just flash TWRP or OpenRecovery using fastboot.
There's also some TWRP Manager app, but I can't personally vouch for it. If you do use TWRP, use the version I recommend in the thread (2.7.1.2)

[Completed] Asus ZenPad S 8 Bricked. Have CWM. Need ADB RSA Authentication, but can't access OS.

Hello!
I just got an Asus ZenPad 8.0 about 6 hours ago, and now I broke it. I rooted it successfully using this guide, but then I updated the firmware, and now it's bricked. I can probably return it with all of the holiday returns policies, but I'd rather keep it. Anyways, here's the problem, and what I've tried.
I found the script in the link above that lets me access CWM recovery. My plan was to format everything, then copy the zip using adb, and install it through CWM recovery. The script temporarily flashes CWM. I can't find another version of CWM for my device, so this is all I've got to work with (I think). This backfired on me because I also deleted my RSA keys. I never thought I needed them in my recovery, and I've done this pleanty of times on my Nexus 6, without the need for keys when working with my TWRP recovery. TL;DR: I can't copy the factory image zip to my tablet.
Here's what I've tried
-------------------------------------------
Using ADB to copy the file (Doesn't work, need RSA Authorizations)
Find a new recovery, then flash it via fastboot, and then use ADB via that recovery (Couldn't find another recovery. Checked CWM and TWRP pages, but couldn't find my device)
Put the zip on my SD card & extract the zip from the card (Error mounting the card. I used another device to format the sd card. No luck. Tried this article and this article)
Booting into safe mode (Still bricked... still didn't work)
Cursing at it
If I can get past the "Permission Denied" and "unauthorized" stuff with ADB, that would be great! I just don't know how to do that.
Let me know if I'm missing anything and what my options are before I return it in a few days. Cheers!
I figured it out. CWM needed a SD card with a capacity of 32gb or less. Since I was using a 64gb card, I couldn't mount it. I stuck in my 8gb card from my Raspberry Pi, put it in, and now it's mounted. I installed it, and now I just have to wait on that.
