I just got my new g tablet and the new update fails everytime, so I'm trying to flash the new update 3389 using recovery mode. But only some small words pop up in the upper left side, but no status bar or anything else. What am I doing wrong?
What words?
It reads " detect a recovery key pressed booting recovery kernel image "
Should I put an SD card in?
I would highly advise you install Clockworkmod.
If you do not wish to do so, try to remove the recovery image off your internal SD card. I have found after flashing a TnT stock or Lite ROM, you must remove the recovery image or you'll end up in reboot mode forever.
If you don't have Clockworkmod, you may be forced to use an external SD card to install the original stock ROM.
Or....reflash whatever update.zip file you have. It may allow you to boot into the ROM once and then you could delete the recovery image before rebooting.
Luckily I flashed TnT Lite which also installed clockworkmod. I was able to hook my tablet up to the PC and mount it as a drive. I removed the recovery file and victory was mine!

Hi!
I'm on SGS2 with Resurrection Remix v2.0 w/ Siyah v 3.2.6+ kernel.
My version of CWM is 4.0.1.5.
For some reason, I can't longer flash anything from CWM.
Whenever I reboot into CWM and choose the "choose zip from sdcard", I only get this error message: "E: Can't mount /sdcard". I don't have any external SD card on my phone, I have always used this method.
I've already tried to wipe cache without luck. If I choose "mount /sdcard", I only get "Error mounting /sdcard!" (This however, may be because it's referring to any external sdcard?)
I appreciate any answers!

So, when you put the .zip on your 'sdcard', are you putting it on the internal memory, or the external SD card?
And yep you're right - it's looking for an extsdcard to 'mount'.

I'm putting the .zip file in my /mnt/sdcard directory. Btw, when I can boot into the stock recovery, I have an option called "install zip from internal sd card". When I choose this option, I can access all my files and install the update that I want, but in CWM I can't!

Have you tried sticking the .zip on an external SD, and seeing if it shows up that way just to confirm? I remember having a similar issue on the Infuse a while back now, and I had to start flashing off the internal memory.
I think a re-install of CWM fixed things up, but that was a high-Development time, and we were getting new versions every day
Try the external thing, I reckon that's the problem. Might require an update to CWM in order to restore functionality. Alternatively, you may like to look into a replacement such as 4EXT or TWRP.
I found this kernel by Chainfire, which adds root and SU, and also CWM. You can flash it through ODIN as normal, very detailed instructions in there.
I also found this article, which may shed some light on the issue for you?
I cannot believe how hard it is to find a Recovery in the GS2 section. What a nightmare!

Hi juzz86!
Thank you for your response!
I do not have an external sd-card to try atm. I will look into the CWM alternatives if this does not work.
I found out that I had replaced my stock recovery with the CWM touch version, and this version allows me to use the "internal sd card" menu. This however, only works when shutting down my phone, and holding volume up+power+home. When using the fast option "reboot into recovery" from my phone, I still get the ordinary CWM - and I'm facing the same problem over again.
When trying to "mount /sdcard" in CWM, I get a standard "failed to mount" message
After looking into the Directory-bind app, I see that all my data is stored in my /sdcard folder, and nothing in the /sdcard/external_sd folder, so I followed the guide just for fun (since it doesn't really describe my problem), but it didn't work, and I still can't mount my /sdcard folder in CWM.
I'm going to see over the forums about the mount sdcard error in the forums, and try the kernel as suggested if nothing else works BB!
EDIT: I see that in newer versions of CWM, there should be an option for installing a zip from the internal sd card. My question is: Is it possible for me to update my version of CWM, while using the same kernel? I can't do this in ROM Manager.
Should be, yes. You'll probably need to use Fastboot or ODIN to flash it, so.e devices get zips but I'm unfamiliar with the GS2 Development.
Your best bet will be to find the CWM thread in one of the GS2 forums, and follow the instructions in there.
I wasn't aware that flashing a recovery through ROM Manager changed your kernel?

It didn't. My answer was a bit messy, sorry. I understand that you can flash a new kernel through odin or CWM, and therefore get a new version of CWM bundled - like the customized versions (like the link you provided). I only want to update my version of CWM, but stay on the same kernel as before. What Rom Manager is able to do, is updating your version of CWM (the official ones).
If I'm mistaking, please let me know.
No, that's right you can update CWM by flashing a kernel, but you can also find a standalone recovery.img, sometimes a flashable zip, or you can use ROM Manager. All three of these methods won't touch your kernel
I got the oposite problem...
Hi all i am new .. but basicaly my issue is:
I'm trying to install a custom ROM on my rooted Galaxy SIII I19300.
I've placed the rom inside an external sdcard, entered Recovery mode (clockworkmod CMW-based Recovery) and clicked "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard", after that the console presented me with an error "E:Can't mount /sdcard/".
I've tried to select "mount /sdcard" in the mounts menu and it errors:
"Error mounting /sdcard!"
The sdcard works fine and I'm able to read/write from/to it without any issues in GSIII and in others cellphones..
The SDCARD got 2 gb and its formated in FAT32.
Any one help plz?
Format your sd card !
respected sir,
format your SD card , since cwm, twrp, and other recovery mods require mostly 'FAT32' format.
so, please take a bkp and format it to go ahead without probs!
Hi I'm a little bit confused and lost between stock recovery, cwm, rom manager and my new SD card.
I browsed 100s of threads and watch alot of good and some not so good videos but 'im still not sure what my best next moves are and why some things dont work.
I have a
Sansung GT i9300
Anroid 4.1.2
Baseband I900XXEMC2
Kernel 3.0.31-1032335 [email protected]#1SMP PEEMPT Mon March11 ..KST 2013
Build JZO54K.I9300XXEMC2
I wanted to use apps like Titanium BackUpPro and Avast so I rooted my phone flashing CWM v3.55 via Odin and have been using it with out any problems for a while.
Then I decided that I would like to flash a custom rom like cm and I downloaded Rom Manager thinking it to be the right tool... ?
I let Rom Manager flash the latest version of CWM recovery 6.0.4.6 ...
but when I look on the apps on my phone I find CWM v3.55-Chainfire ? and
if I try to update I get directed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
When booting in rcovery mode my phone enters the android system recovery e3 and I get an Error message:
E:faild to mount /data (invalid agrument)
What exactly does this mean ???
Should I try flashing CWM 6 non toutch via Odin or flash back stock ROM?
I thought I would try backing up to an ext SD card so I orderd a SanDisc mircosd 64GB card but the problem still remains.
I still cant back up my ROM using ROM Manager or CWM
Why ? What happend?
I tried formating the SD card with ROM Magager but SD card fails to load. I tried formating with gparted fat32. Still wont load...
The ext SD card shows up in the file exlporer on my phone just fine but
I can't seem to be able to get Rom Manager to recognize it and CWM recovery isn't working.
So instead of backin up my exsiting ROM to the SD card maybe it would be a better idea to install CWM and CM to the SD card
and keep my ROM on the internal SD as it is???
I tried creating a bootable ext sd card with CWM and CM like here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_acclaim
but when it comes to booting the phone in recovery mode I still get the E:faild to mount /data (invalid agrument) message....?
How do I boot from ext sd card?
Whats my next best move?
I have a working rooted ROM on my local SD card with all my apps backed up in clowd. But my recovery mode issue remains to be resolved.
and I have a 64GB ext SD card with CWM and CM on it but I can't install with Rom Manager? because SD card fails to load.
Thanks for trying to follow so far!!!!

First option:
1- Download Philz recovery from: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9300/philz_touch_6.07.9-i9300.tar.md5
and flash it with odin 3.07or newer
2- Downlad SuperSu root from: http://vk.com/doc167892454_171297436?hash=877f29ccdb4e944a70&dl=28aabb49a7217e1962, copy to your device, go to recovery mode and do 'install zip from...'
Second option:
1- Download CF-Auto Root from http://download.chainfire.eu/229/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip, extract and flash it with odin (that should enable root permissions in your device).
2- Download CWM Manager from PlayStore and do a flash, or better- flash the Philz recovery as above (you don't neet the root file)
Follow the Odin packages instructions...?

Yep, follow it,
And yes- both backup and exSD use (called sdCard0 in the recovery), here's the developer's thread & guide:

Easy way to flash CWM or Touch wiz is to download EZ-Recovery from the play store, open the app scroll to recovery, click recovery and choose which one you want and click flash. Done. I personally like TW.

I have a Motog 1040 tx.
I have unlocked the boot loader through Motorola's website
I have SuperSU installed. I have verified using an app the phone is rooted.
This my problem installing clockword mod...
When I go through the commands in terminal manager. It says recovery. IMG not found.
I've downloaded clockwordmod recovery peregrine for my phone model and renamed
it recovery.IMG and placed it in the sdcard memory card root.
I've tried placing flash image in my sdcard root as well and used that method as well.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? The sd card is listed as sdcard1 on my device. I've also noticed that there is an emulated sdcard listed.
I used Flashify. Its in the play store to install a custom recovery. I used Philz Recovery its a modified CWD with a little better UI options i think. This is what you need to do to flash a file. You wont need flashify anymore after that cause all of your flashing will be done from Cwd. Good luck and its free

Which phone are you talking about? Do you have internal / external sd? Stock recovery is not usable for flashing any custom zip files, for installing non-signed files, you'll need a custom recovery.
i am using galaxy core.i want to install philz touch custom recovery.zip but to do so i have to see that file which is on my internal sd. when i go to "apply update from sd card" i can see only one folder which redirects me to the main menu in stock recovery.and can u tell me why cant i see any folder of my sd card too. i have external sd card too

As I said, you can't install any custom zips using the stock recovery. You will need to flash PhilZ using ODIN first.
Is your phone a Samsuung GT-i8260 ?
