Tablet Making Weird Noises - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was just sitting in a quiet room when I noticed a sound, I brought my tablet up to my ear to find that it was making this sound that kinda sounded like water rushing through a pipe, not like sloshing or anything if you know what I mean . . . I also noticed that its not coming from the speakers as when I put my ear up to the SHEILD logo it seems to get louder as well as the fact that when I lock the device it stops. In dunno what it is or if I should be worried as obviously the device isnt liquid cooled and it fosnt have any fans either. Any ideas?

I've heard this once. I rebooted the tablet and that took care of it.

Mine also makes these sounds, especially while gaming. It is noticeable when the volume is off. Sounds like a buzzing to me. The sounds are there regardless of ROM and OS Version.

It's coil whine. This is a know issue. Don't worry about it. RMA don't solve the problem(except if the buzz is high). The buzz is very low for me. Only ear on a quiet room.

What is that sound?!

While in a call I can hear a noise like a buzzing what is it? I notice if my speakers and any thing electronic is next to it makes the same buzzing noise for instance if my phone is next to it.
I'm not exactly sure why they do it, but all GSM phones do this when the radio starts going nuts, like getting a call etc.
Sprint and Verizon not so much.
It's normal though. So expect it to happen all the time.
so annoying lol
There are better quality speakers available which have shielding preventing such interference/feedback. There isn't really any way to tell though unless you've already bought them (which doesn't help).
I'm lucky my logitech Z10 speakers have never exhibited such problems.

well thanks that would help my speaker problem. Not the phone though
Well every phone will do it, so it's not really a "phone problem". It comes with the technology. But getting shielded speakers will at least remove the "annoying" aspect.
It sounds like you're saying that you hear the noise coming out of the phone's own speakers? That's not normal, even on a GSM phone.
The clicking/buzzing on other speakers, like your clockradio or whatever are normal, but if the phone itself is acting up, it's defective, or you have it near something that's causing a lot of interference.

Buzzing sound from the back

Hi.
My TF700 has a faint buzzing / humming sound coming from the back.
I can only hear it around left dock connector or if i put my ear on the back side of the tablet around that area.
I think is screen related as is only produced when screen is on.
Does anyone/everyone has it or is some kind of defect on mine ?

No buzzing here. That seems like something is wrong.

Buzzing sounds like a short. Take it back.

Kind of, actually more like a power convertor, like the sound you can hear from some laptop power converters.
Probably there is no short circuit, more likely a bad solder or a faulty component.
It 100% has to do with the screen because when the screen is off there is no sound even if the cpu not sleeping (adb, music, ...), maybe has to do with dynamic contrast witch probably many disable but can't test for obvious reason that i don't want to break warranty so please specify if posible if you stock rom or custom.
Unfortunately send back is not so easy as the device was bought from US and brought to me by a friend and I'm on the other side of the world.
Does Asus has international warranty for them ?

[Q] Quiet Hissing/Electrical buzzing from tablet?

Hey guys, does anyone else experience some quiet continuous popping and electrical sounds coming from inside the back of the tablet? If I put my ear on the back, it pretty much sounds like continuous popping and something like a laptop HDD running.
It's not that bad but gets noticeable in a quiet room especially on tegra apps, even dabbler.
I know it has a desktop GPU chip inside and I know this is common in desktop video cards but is this normal on this tablet?

I've got the same thing.
The tablet had fan cooling system inside I believe.

Hissing mechanical noise during load...
I too have noticed this on my lte unit first night use.
I might be talking about something else, although regarding the hissing noise similar to harddrive (i dont really get the popping noise, nowhere near loud PoP sounds)
I can relate this noise very similar experience ive had on my computer with low level (in anotherwords cheap) onboard sound card -chip. Board was made by intel for dell. Basically it did the very close, in moments when hdd&ram cooperated in that computer under high cpu load, this sound came from the computers speakers.
Im surprised shield brings me back to the times 5 years earlier, i could hear it just now. Its random, but nothing i would be concerned of. Theres no point of rma this since its more of us noticing, i guess all the shield tablets produce this electric-static noise, speakers are pretty neat so maybe it was harder to hide imperfection of nvidias sound solution?
More accurate to confirm would be to know other tablets that use the same sound processor vs above mention hissing mechanical sound.
I can only hear it at night though, and frankly, it is loud but it still keeps me happy. My old oem pc was worse, it hissed even by moving the mouse around, it was so bad you could count dpi with closed eyes! Now that's what i call disturbing

To me it sounds more like a voltage conversion-related sound like many power adapters make (including the Shield's) when under load. My power strip will also produce that sound if you plug high-power devices straight into its USB ports (I wish I knew the amperage on those ports).
EDIT: I have heard this sound on occasion myself is what I mean by this, and it doesn't sound like old "speaker squeaking" I've observed on older computers. I HAVE heard it on some laptops.
Thanks a lot for the feedback guys, i just wanted to know if there's something wrong with my tablet or it's something everyone gets. Anyway, i've also noticed some hissing when scrolling in Chrome. Not sure if it's the speakers or internal components hissing but it's not that big of a deal.

[Q] Anyone have a very quiet speaker crackle?

Got my Shield Tablet a week ago, really enjoying it so far.
However, I've noticed when I settle in the for evenings I can hear a very faint speaker crackle coming from the lower speaker but can still be heard out of the upper one. Its super faint.
I don't know if its when its connected to its charger, or if its happening all the time but I can only hear it in a silent room. I'll check and report back tonight but if anyone else has experienced this, I'd love to know.
Many thanks
I have heard it as well. My hearing has always been sensitive enough I can hear the old CRT TVs when they are on, and even heard the color wheel of an old projection TV going before it finally quit. This is in the same frequency as those things.
I hear a static sound randomly from the speakers and I have not pinned down the cause as it happens at rest and very active times. I believe some of this might be from the heatsink from previous items I have read about.
The second item is the high pitched whine which I hear connected to my S4 power charger. Again, intermittent there, it does not always make the sound, but it does make it often enough that it is not rare.
I only hear the whine on the charger, but I never hear the whine off the charger.
I sometimes hear both the static/crackle and the whine sometimes, so the whine may be from something in the charging process.
Sorry, I know not much information, but more of a vote that you aren't hearing things and some experiences I have had so far.

I really appreciate your reply thank you, at least I know it's not just me.
I'm just trying to figure out if I should RMA it or not. Sat in bed typing this and the noise is there until the display is off. Doesn't matter if it's on charge or not. Odd though as I haven't heard it all day.
It almost sounds like a very small short in a speaker somewhere.
Thanks again.
It's common to the Shield. I hear it also when it is very quiet.

I hear it too but only on the bottom speaker.

same here....
Mine does it when I close the camera app.
Mine does it after it gets hot for extended periods. ie after gaming

High pitched noise

Hello, i got my OP 6 from Amazon like 2 days ago and I realized that there is a high pitched noise coming from the top of my phone around the camera area. If i put my ear at the back or middle of the screen I can hear it too. Furthermore the sound is not static, sometimes it's quieter and sometimes it's kind of loud. It kinda sounds like coil whine, if you are familiar with that.
Anyone got that too? I doubt it's normal. I had a custom kernel installed, the bootlader unlocked and everything rooted and set up. But this is really annoying so I went back to stock and locked the bootloader again. I guess I will return it anyways, but Iam not sure whether to get another one.
Edit: The sound is always present, it does not matter whether it charges or not. It does it even when hibernating. It's really weird.
