2011 07 22 : Update : v1.2 Just released to market
--
I've finally pulled myself together and thrashed out my first ever android game!
I know there are many seasoned veterans on this forum with biblical knowledge of the platform, but being completely new to Java and object oriented programming it was a massive leap for me!
Sorry, but I just wanted to share!
Oh, did I mention it is free?
Paul
If you get 5 mins please check out Livestock vs The Undead Lite on the market - all comments (preferably constructive) are welcome as I shall be updating regularly.

I'd appreciate it. Hope you like it. I have a ton of ideas of where to take it next and am curious as to what everyone else thinks.
Cheers,

You use the acc sensor to pan the view a bit.
- this looks nice but sadly it's a bit clunky with the movement.
- this makes the game look clunky if you have the phone loosely in your hand (constant movement)
I always love dev's that add a no-sound mode to the first screen (at school/work)
Once placed we can't move/upgrade/fix defences or animals.
You can't see the 'health' (healthy zombies ) of a zombie.
- so if it get's close it's hard to guess if you need more (last-minute) defence or it will die in 2 sec's anyway.
Maybe an option to get more details about the defences/animals. fe. it's health, rof, damage, costs.
The game looks nice and it's always easy to find things that could be better if you're not the one who created it
If this is your first app than good job!

The accelerometer movement will be removed in the next release. I was originally going to have more columns off screen - but it ended up making me feed seasick! I don't think it added much to the game anyway.

Great minds think alike! I've already coded that in for the next rel.

Not at present - you can only replace when an existing animal/etc gets chomped. I have decided to change it around a bit. It should make an interesting dynamic for the game.

I hadn't put that in to keep an element of guesswork and anticipation. Do you think it'd add to the game?

I'm going to put a tutorial mode in which will help new players and would be skippable for the veteran gamer.

Hello, I want to introduce my very first game - 4 Blocks.
The point of the game is to match the color of falling drop (pipe has the same color) and bucket, as simple as that.
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.darker.fourblocks
Completely free to play and ad-free!
Thank you

Nice game., but you could add some features, like catch two drops at the same time, or something Generally it's a good killer of time.

Yea, it's my first game so development is not as fast as it could be. However, I'm spending all my time for this and want to make it popular and playable.
There are plans for different gamemodes and also and online (1vs1) mode.
So, we just need to wait!

Great first game! The gameplay is solid, and I like the interface. I have two criticisms: first, it feels weird that the bucket is in the middle of the screen. I can tell that the reason for this is so an equal portion of the screen is devoted to each color, but I still think it would play a lot better if the bucket were lower down. Second, I'd suggest tweaking the graphics so the drop is covered up until it gets out of the pipe: right now you can see it above the pipe before it falls. Other than that, I agree with the other people who have replied to this thread: it's a great time killer, and a lot of fun.

2048: Rock Music! \m/
The world-famous game in 2048 in a new, rocker, format!
This application is not created for a wide range of people. For those who love heavy metal music. For those who love the dark and / or dark design. But this is not a game, it's just a very good mod for one of the most popular games in 2048.
Features fashion:
• Rock is always there, even in your favorite apps in 2048!
• One of a Kind! Second rocker puzzle you will not find.
PS: Made in automatic garbage (since I'm a beginner developer, and all the while being developed), in the future, everything will change. I hope you enjoy! Do not judge strictly!
This app on Google Play
I dont like heavy metal, but I do like that you know your target market.
Good effort, mate.
Russ
Thanks

I've recently finished my first game for android and I need opinions from people other than my family and friends, who can only praise me.
SteamCopter is a Super Hexagon, Flappy Bird and Spelunky fusion wanna-be. I've just finished promotional video, so you don't have to(but I highly encourage you to!)play it to check what's it all about.

I've sent you the files through PM, thanks for the help.
Could you tell me what did you mean by strange controls? I wanted it to be hard, but not "hard to play", if it makes any sense.
It's a really nice game if you want to kill some minutes. It's fun to play it and you really want to improve your highscore. In my opinon it's a little bit harder than flappy bird or something like this but everybody who visits this thread should give it a try
At first I had problems with the controls, but that was a failure with my current custom Rom and had nothing to do with the app.
it looks like typical good run/arcade game, but static backgrounds isn't cool. IMHO
Great game ! It is very well done, with attention to details like performance, music, graphics. This is not common in many 2D android games. I heavily recommend trying it !
good game, but i really think you should improve the graphic, maybe 8-bit

I'm glad to hear that you liked it. About it being harder than flappy bird... It wasn't my intention, but it can be. It's a little harder to learn, but when you get the grasp of it, mechanics are easy (but still hard to master!). Also, I'm pretty sure, that it can be a lot more rewarding than flappy bird.

Hey there, I tried your game out and I'd like to share my feedback with you.
It took me a few minutes to realize that I could tap the right side of the screen to keep the copter up in the air. Maybe have a little "tutorial" at the beginning explaining the controls? Or some kind of button/visual to show that the right screen is for keeping the copter up.
After a second run, I did noticed your "how to play" button on the menu. Maybe you should display that at the beginning game for first time users.
You don't seem to have back buttons for "how to play" and "high scores". I have to exit the app to get out of it.
I hate to be that guy, but I find the full screen ads a little intrusive for this kind of game. The banner ad on the corner is fine though.
Could be a fun game with a bit more polishing. Mainly with the controls, and the UX. Good luck with your game!

Thank you for your feedback, I will definitely post update soon.
About the back button on howto and highscores screens... There is one, in the left bottom, but it looks like I need to make it more visible.
I will do something about this interstitial ad.

Oh okay, yeah I must have not seen them. One last thing is try animating some of the UI elements by "tweening". Like, maybe the game over dialog can slide up to the middle of the screen. Things like that will make the game feel more polished. Keep it up!
SteamCopter has just been updated, here's the changelog:
- new back button in menu
- updated German translation
- menu HowTo appearing before first play
- fewer interstitial ads

Thanks, I will look into it.
I found the time to play it, and I was impressed by how the music complimented the art style. It gave your game a nice little aesthetic.
At first It was difficult, but after a few minutes of playing I got a little better.
I was also initially confused about how to play in the different worlds that are shown on the screenshots.
That was until I discovered that you had to collect a certain amount of stars to open the next world.
This actually gave me more incentive to continue getting better.
My only (minor) complaint is the backgrounds. They look great, but they're a bit static.
I couldn't help but feel that I was playng in front of a stage. But again, this is very minor and easy to look past for me.
Overall great game with great production value!
BTW, I love steampunk, so sorry if my review is a bit biased!

What an uplifting post, thanks! I'm really glad that you like it.
I'd really love to do something about backgrounds stillness, but well... it's not entirely dependent on me.
What do you guys think about integrating Google Play Games Services(leaderboards, achievements)?
After a really long break from programming, I'm back with a new game. Steampunk hero is back, this time with a rope! From screenshots it probably looks like some stickhero-wannabe, but let me assure you, it's really not.
Hook, swing, repeat.
Equipped with nothing more than a single rope, swing from one platform to another. Hold your finger to move the grapple point, release to swing. Stick with the crows - they are said to spawn bonuses. But be careful! If the rope is too short or too long, you will fall.
Simple yet addictive, just try it!
Compete with your friends and people from all over the world through online leaderboards and achievements.
Collect coins to unlock additional backgrounds and characters.
Play in headphones for best experience.
