Hi,
I am having trouble getting exchange accounts to work on Gmail 5.0
Pre-lollipop update we were using the onboard android mail client with no worries, keen for the gmail integration we upgraded to gmail 5.0 where we discovered we cannot download or send attachments greater than 5mb when using an exchange account in gmail.
When downloading an attachment I get the following error "Couldn't download. Touch to retry."
When attaching a 5mb file I get "Can't attach file over 5mb."
The debugging I have done:
Files over 5mb can be downloaded/sent over wifi
All settings related to limits have been disabled
I have checked the exchange 2007 settings and there is a limit of 15mb set
Removing this limit did not help
Tested downloading an attachment using a gmail account, this was successful
Rolled back to lollipop with no updates: no success
Ensured all apps are OS is up to date
3rd party apps such as 'outlook' have no issue
I am able to download attachments greater than 5mb using OWA
I have tried multiple file types including PDF, ZIP and JPEG
Confirmed accounts are still working on email clients pre-gmail integration
Not getting anywhere from this I rooted a test phone and got the following information from logcat when attempting to download an attachment:
Code:
W/AttachmentService( 2363): Attachment #346 is not eligible for download
W/AttachmentService( 2363): Attachment #346 cannot be downloaded ever
I/ConvLayout( 2363): IN setHeight=386px of overlay item: [email protected]
W/AttachmentService( 2363): Attachment #346 is not eligible for download
W/AttachmentService( 2363): Attachment #346 cannot be downloaded ever
I/ConvLayout( 2363): IN setHeight=386px of overlay item: [email protected]
D/audio_hw_primary( 184): disable_audio_route: reset and update mixer path: low-latency-playback
D/audio_hw_primary( 184): disable_snd_device: snd_device(2: speaker)
I/wpa_supplicant( 884): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-STARTED
Vague results here didn't help me that much, is anyone here able to help with this issue I am having?
Unfortunately using a 3rd party mail application isn't a solution I can use for this.
Is this a known bug for the system?
Any help or advice for places to look is greatly appreciated, I have run out of ideas for trying to find what this issue is.
Thankyou
Hi There,
I have the same issue! Some users on google apps using the same app don't have this limitation, only users going through exchange.
This was also a problem in the original email app back in version 4 i think but was fixed in 4.4.....now the issue is back again!
Anyone have any idea if this was just a limit simply implemented by google?
Thanks
Pete

Just noticed this rather odd behaviour...
I've a Desire running Leedroid, and have set up Google Sync in Exchange.
The text contents of emails are received perfectly fine, but when I try to view attachments, that's when issues come in.
Originally I had Exchange set to download all attachments. While this would show every attachment as downloaded (and have the staple icon with the size), if I tried to open them, it would say "The file cannot be opened because it is corrupted."
I then changed it to never download attachments, and would fetch attachments manually. Now, if I did this, I could get the attachment, with the option to open directly or save to SD card. Either would be successful, and I could do either after the other IF I did not leave the email in question.
If I then pressed back and went back to the inbox list, then back into the email, trying to open the downloaded (and viewed! and saved!) attachment would result in the same error message as before.
What's going on?
Hi,
if anyone found please help its urgent
o.o
Dunno who that guy is, but yeah, still wanting to know if anyone knows why this is happening... closest thing I found was something that occurs on Droid phones, but the option that 'fixes' it (something about accepting all SSL certificates) doesn't appear on my phone.
I'm facing the same problem too. All my attachments are being automatically downloaded and saved. I am able to open the saved files but not the one's in the mail.
Anyone please help
I can't attach a video to my email using my gmail. After I type an email I click "attach" and it takes me to the Gallery but the videos don't show up. What's going on?
I've also tried attaching a video right after taking it but it says "file too large".
I can attach the same video using yahoo email.
Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks.
Wow, that is a weird one. Not sure if it's a gallery or a gmail bug, though. I'll confirm that videos in the camera folder in the gallery don't show when trying to attach from the gmail app, but videos I have in a synced Picasa album do.
I've just tested it a couple of different ways and both worked. Have you tried either of these?
1) Open the Gallery app, then tap the video you want to send, then select the Share button, then pick gmail. Gmail will open to a new email with the video attached.
2) Use a file explorer app (like Root Explorer) and do the same basic thing as in #1 - browse to, select and share to gmail.
I used test files up to 20mb in size. If you've tried one of these and it's telling you the file is too large, how large is the file? Have you validated that gmail allows attachments of that size?

According to Google Help for gmail, the maximum file attachment size you can send through gmail is 25mb. That's probably your issue.

You're right. So, is yahoo mail - file attachment limit is 25 MB.
I checked the size of the video I've been trying to attach - it is 6.17 MB. And I still can't attach this video when I select it from the gallery.
If I write an email first, and then select "attach" the video does not even show. Pictures do.
Anyone???

I did the first thing and I keep getting message " file too large" although it is only 6.17 MB.
How do you do the second thing - I would need step by step directions. But does it solve my problem?
Thanks!

How do you exactly do that? Thanks.
I have managed to get html support for exchange with Hotmail, will work for other exchange settings.
Needs:
Root
Rootexplorer (any file explorer with root permission will works)
SQLite Editor (our any .db editor)
First setup your exchange account. till the part where you can check what to sync, uncheck everything. Sync freq. manual
Start rootexplorer go to:
data/data/com.htc.android.mail/databases/mail.db (if you have SqLite Editor, this wil open de .db file)
Tick on accounts
Now you will see what accounts you have with your mail client
Tick on your exchange (hotmail) account and select edit record
Go to _easSvrProtocol and change 2.5 (remember this, this value is only for hotmail other exchange have an other value) into 12, and save.
Reboot phone
After reboot start mail client
go to settings and go to send & receive settings
change mail size from 5kb into 10 kb
Your are now allowed to change plain text into html. change it into html
exit mail client
go to settings/accounts and sync settings
select your exchange (hotmail) account
check what you wanna sync en change update freq. to push
Now sync once, you will get an error.
Exit to your home screen
Start Rootexplorer and go back to:
data/data/com.htc.android.mail/databases/mail.db (if you have SqLite Editor, this wil open de .db file)
Tick on accounts
Now you will see what accounts you have with your mail client
Tick on your exchange (hotmail) account and select edit record
Go to _easSvrProtocol and change 12 into 2.5 (this value is for hotmail, other exchange other value you had remember it what it was before), and save.
reboot phone.
And now you have html support with exchange
Thanks, it is working for both my exchange accounts.
Jesus ... where do you people come from!?!??!
Geniuses ... amazing.
This didn't work for me (with RCMix_3.5_v10) I just kept getting "unknown" exchange errors after changing the _easSvrProtocol back to 2.5.
I did however have success by restoring my original (worked fine with html) com.htc.android.mail folder back to /data/data. The settings still only allow me to select plain text, however html mail is displayed no problems!
i could not change the value because it give me sqlite error 10 disk i/o error, any idea?
Hi,
I got html support by default, you only have to config hotmail as an exchange account. (server m.hotmail.com)
Regards

I'm getting the same error. Could be because I'm running sense 4. If anyone figures this out. I'd like to know how.
Crap ... just upgrade to ARHD 6 ... and no love for this fix.
If you can give us a clue that would be great!
I have another suggestion.

Hi, maybe you´ve already solved, but copy the db in sd, modify the field, re-copy in data/data/com.htc.android.mail/databases/mail.db and set permissions.
That worked for me in DHD with sense 4 rom
Used this fix in Blackout ICS incredible 3.2 (sense 3.6) on my Desire HD and it's working great! Many thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Very nice!
Worked for me on rooted stock ROM (Android 4.0.3, Sense 3.6)!
root explorer: ES File Explorer 4.0.2.3
SQL editor: DB Browser for SQLite 3.7.0 (x64 version, on PC, Windows7)
I moved the file (mail.db) to SDcard, so I could edit the file on my PC. Changed owner back to "app_68" and set permissions, because owner had become "root", probably because of my moving around the file.
In mail app, "plain text" is greyed-out visible, like before, but HTML-mails are visible now.
Thanks!
Hello, I just bought Lenovo P700i from etotalk.com eshop. It is overall very good phone, nice build quality, very good battery life, but I have found some problems too. The worst problem is, that I cannot synchronize it with my Microsoft Exchange account (emails, contacts, ...). There are only two aco**** types available in the android account settings (Google account and Lenovo account), but there is no Corporate account type, which Is on my old android phone and my android tablet too. And there is only GMail client instaled, not the default android email client, which am I using to read my emails on my other android devices.
Can anyone help me to synchronize this phone with Microsoft Exchange account? 3rd party clients are not working with our Exchange server, only maildroid does, but it is pretty expensive and I do not like this app at all.
My phone is rooted, there is Exchange.apk in system/apps, what is this for? And there is no Email.apk in this directory...
Thank you...
Look for Mail.apk or Message.apk.
This should add the email client to the adndroid, am I right? But will this add even the possibility to add "corporate" account?
Hi,
I have the same phone and the same problem. I found Email.apk, but ran in to what seems to be a common problem in that active sync just did not work - there're lots of thread about exchange problems with Activesync and I never got to the bottom of what the problem is. For now I'm using Emoze for my exchange mail client and that works.
Another problem with the etotalk ROM is Caller ID - it does not match incoming numbers to contacts and I gather this is also a common problem with some of these Chinese phones. This fault has been corrected for other Lenovos (A789, A750) in custom ROMs - will any kind soul create a custom ROM for the P700i?
Thanks,
pingu.
1. same wish here, is there any custom ROM for this phone?
2. And one more issue with this phone, installed CatLog and found one error message in captured logs, which is repeating hundred times, does anyone know, what this error means and how to remove it?

I managed to get active sync working by using the Email and Exchange apps from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869133
Make sure you delete Any .odex files for Exchange or Mail.
Only problem that remains is caller ID. The Etotalk ROM is pants for this - all incoming calls are "Unknown contact" and landlines are also "unknown city" but some mobiles have some Chinese for the location!
I presume it will take a modified ROM to correct this?
Thanks,
Pingu

It's no wonder your phone won't turn on anymore. You should flash custom ROM like cybermaus from inside CWM Recovery, NOT from SP_Flash_Tool.
Searched all over the web and can not find any help on this. Just picked up a Galaxy S7 last week and haven't had any issues with it. My internet at work blocks Gmail, Drive, etc. so I have to access everything on my phone. In some cases if I need a file from my Google Drive I have to use my phone (Gmail app) to send it to my work email, download, edit, email back to Gmail, save to Drive. It is a pain, but the only work around I currently know that still works here.
Anyway, I always password protect the files (word or excel files) so they can not be opened (well opened easily) and viewed. This has never been a problem until now. For some reason, when I email the password protected file back to my Gmail and open up the email on the Gmail app on the S7, it will NOT download or save the attached file. I have tried numerous files and oddly, if the file (docx, xlxs, pdf, zip) is NOT password protected, the Gmail app downloads or saves it to my Drive just fine. However, if the file is password protected, it will not do anything. I tap the screen and all the options and it does nothing.
I do not know if this is some security feature built into the phone, or some app, but it is not helping me. I have tried messing with the Gmail app settings and nothing helped. Cleared cache and data for Gmail app didn't help. Uninstall/reinstall didn't either. Any ideas?
Have you tried other email apps? Do files that you send download normally on PC?

Other email apps work and I can download the files fine on a pc. I looked more into it and apparently it's a Gmail android issue. Others are having similar problems so I guess I'll just have to wait until they roll a new update out.
Today i received my fresh oneplus 6 with android pie rom. Actually i have this issue with gmail. Can't download/view pdf attachments even if i have 2 pdf apps (google pdf viewer and adobe reader). Any idea?
