Just noticed this rather odd behaviour...
I've a Desire running Leedroid, and have set up Google Sync in Exchange.
The text contents of emails are received perfectly fine, but when I try to view attachments, that's when issues come in.
Originally I had Exchange set to download all attachments. While this would show every attachment as downloaded (and have the staple icon with the size), if I tried to open them, it would say "The file cannot be opened because it is corrupted."
I then changed it to never download attachments, and would fetch attachments manually. Now, if I did this, I could get the attachment, with the option to open directly or save to SD card. Either would be successful, and I could do either after the other IF I did not leave the email in question.
If I then pressed back and went back to the inbox list, then back into the email, trying to open the downloaded (and viewed! and saved!) attachment would result in the same error message as before.
What's going on?
Hi,
if anyone found please help its urgent
o.o
Dunno who that guy is, but yeah, still wanting to know if anyone knows why this is happening... closest thing I found was something that occurs on Droid phones, but the option that 'fixes' it (something about accepting all SSL certificates) doesn't appear on my phone.
I'm facing the same problem too. All my attachments are being automatically downloaded and saved. I am able to open the saved files but not the one's in the mail.
Anyone please help

Can i delete the sms trough file explorer? Where are the sms in the windows folder?
I had that problem too or at least a similar. I found out that the reason was that the system had created two folders for e-mail attachments. This apparently lead to some confusing on which folder to use and thus the whole thing refused to start.
After deleting both folders everything worked as a charm again The folder then gets recreated next time it needs to store an attachment, so no worries there!
How can i delete this folder if i can't access to outlook/sms window?
weird timing, I just posted the same problem just now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486297
Snapphane's fix worked for me, or at least it allows me to access the mail part of outlook so far (I have not re- set up the email accounts- it looks like all of my mail has still disappeared).
I went to the storage card with file explorer, and deleted a folder called something like "inbox.msi.233406...", and now all of a sudden I can get into the mail fine.
Thanks snapphane, and lets hope it keeps working!
but i haven't mail, i have only sms and they are in Phone memory...
EDIT: I've solved with your solution!!! VERY THANKS!!!
thanks alot for your solution worked for me fine thanks alot
No such folder
I've the same problem, but there is no such folder
can you give more more information about the how do you solve it ?>
thanks in advance
I was just playing around with ES File Explorer, trying to learn what it does, and I discovered that all the email attachments that I've opened during the past few days (.doc,.pdf,.pps) were actually saved to my G tab.
I'd rather than didn't happen.....is that a feature that I can turn off somewhere?
(I couldn't find anything under the different menus for mail or browser.)
You could try a third part e-mail client, such as Enhanced Email which seems to have a good rating in the market.
I use the Yahoo Mail app.
Does anyone know if I can view attachments to my email, without having to download them to my G tab?
Bumping up?
I'm having problems getting email attachments to load . They show as being there but never lisd.any help would be great. I'm new to Droid so thanks if anyone can help out.
Hello there.
I´m also having issues when downloading attachments on pop3 accounts using HTC Mail.
As you stated, the attachments seems to download, but when you try to open them, you get an error. If it´s a word or excel attachment, it would say "wrong format". If it´s a picture (jpg) it would just show as broken (black screen).
The crazy thing is that it seems random, as I have got some attachments to work, with jpg, and also some with pdf and .doc
Nevertheless, I installed another e-mail app, called enhaced email (it seems quite the same as htc mail), and downloading the same e-mails (that were still on the server) worked for downloading the attachments.
Maybe there´s some issue on HTC Mail application that needs to be shorted out.
by the way, I´m on custom firmware Revolution
Why would droid OS have all attachments in emails download into your gallery?
How can I stop it? I unchecked "download attachments", but as soon as I open the email to view the attachment, it downloads and puts a copy into my gallery. After vewing the pic, I have to go into gallery and delete it.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Question 2, I saved a pic from a MMS by pressing the and holding the pic. I saved to "SD card". when I go into gallery, its not there?
So for this droid has been okay, but why do they make things so difficult at times!
Any suggestions!
Downloads go into the download folder. While in the gallery you can select to view/hide this folder, or "album" by pressing the menu button. They may not show up immediately in the gallery due to a media scan being required.
i think this is a new bug in sense UI or something because i read this elsewhere about all png's and gif's and email attachment junk showing up in the gallery, and it should not be doing that in any way. like if i receive an email with a border around the email, that border should not be showing up in my gallery as a photo!!!!
so far i've not seen any solution to this.
Yep, I am glad some else is familiar with this!!! Can anyone else confirm this?
Same here. This is my first day on a non-Apple phone since 2007. This is top among a growing list of annoyances. And not just because "Apple doesn't do it that way" but because no one should do it that way.
I can confirm that on my AT&T Inspire 4G, every tiny little logo in everyone's signatures on my corporate email account has bloated my Gallery to over 200 images in one day. Only one of those images is one that I actually wanted to save from an MMS.
I've seen people posting suggestions about how to selectively disable the gallery from seeing certain folders by adding .nomedia files to those folders, but images saved from the Messages app get saved to the same folder as all the garbage harvested from email attachments, and I would like to see those.
This needs to be fixed. People shouldn't be fiddling in the file system for something as basic as browsing the photos on their phone.
Yep I agree 100%, there must be a way for us new guys to do away with this. I am sure it can be done if I would root my phone, but also myself coming from a Iphone, jailbreaking was a easy task. After reading the steps involved in rooting, I do not feel comfortable, I simply don't understand the language. I would love to root it and unleash this beast.
no idea if this will work on the inspire, but on the captivate to get a folder to not show up in gallery you had to put a file called .nomedia in the folder you don't want included.
An easy way to get this is from a command prompt: adb shell
then do touch .nomedia /whatever/folder/you/want it in.
I'm guessing this is only using the sense email app. I don't have a problem with this using gmail. I would suggest using a different email app until HTC gets an update out. Downloading and setting up a different email app takes way less time than deleting hundreds of images daily. Make sure you contact HTC support in regards to bugs and security. Files and pictures being auto downloaded is a pretty big security hole IMO.
I called att today and they called HTC, they never heard of this issue. They are sending me a new phone to replace mine!
I faced this issue of K9 mail not saving attachments. It always used to come with the error message "unable to save attachment". Searching google came up with forums filled with this issue.
After some playing through, I realized that K9 mail tries to store all the attachments to the folder /mnt/sdcard/k9
For some reason, if the folder k9 is not present (could be user deletion or whatever for that matter), the mail app does not create the folder but simply returns the error. I tried creating the folder, and saving, and this time it saved properly. Seems like a simple thing was apparently overlooked by the k9 dev.
So, in short, creating the folder k9 on sd card resolves the issue.
