[Completed] [Q] Typical Sob Story (m8) - XDA Assist

I'm sure you guys hear this happen way too often but I am in tough spot, I bought a HTC m8 (for T-Mobile) off craigslist and it had a bad imei and as usual the guy won't respond to my calls/texts. I know I am stupid for letting this happen to me but I feel like there's a way out if this, I'm just not exactly sure what to do. If any could list me all my options that would be great and if you need to know its running 4.4.4

Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. What do you mean by bad IMEI?

Bad Imei meaning that the person i bought the phone from didn't completely pay off the phone so they blacklisted the phone, so that if i were to want to use the phone i wouldn't be able to.

I see. There's really not much you can do, short of continuing to contact the seller, or contacting your local consumer rights organisation.

Changing the IMEI of a phone is illegal. XDA Developers only operates within and respects the laws of the world, therefore such a thing cannot be discussed on XDA.

Alright, I was wondering where in the written law shows that it's illegal to change the IMEI number.

It depends on where you are, doing some research should uncover it. As I said before though, this topic isn't up for discussion on XDA, it never has been and it never will be. My suggestion is to contact your local consumer rights organisation and see how they can help you. Good luck with your phone!

So, since jailbraeking/rooting is leagal now.......

does that mean i can send my rooted phone to Verizon for warranty replacement??

My understanding is they can't persue legal action against you but rooting still voids the warranty.

[SOLVED]Does T-Mobile's Nexus 5 come unlocked?....YES IT IS UNLOCKED

Does anyone know if the Nexus 5's come unlocked? I was under the impression they don't come unlocked. I cut up an old Sprint sim and put it in, and it says "emergency calls | sprint" which makes me believe they're unlocked. Anyone have any luck?
first off, do not post questions in general, they go into q&a http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477886
secondly, i guess that you didnt search for the answer, because it is very easy to find. all nexus 5 come sim unlocked, it does not matter where you buy them.

Seriously. There's only 2 versions of the Nexus 5. Both are unlocked.

****, really sorry about the post in the wrong place and the simple question. So, T-Mobile employees as well as account specialists are lying to me when they say it's locked? Weird that they'd lie. But thank you guys!

No reason to be sorry, your question was legitimate because you were misinformed by T-Mobile and needed a straight answer.

I think a good option to the weekly question about the N5 being unlocked is to list it in the specs section on the main page as "Carrier Unlocked". Maybe one of the FSMs can help with that?

XDA is not a Q&A web site
Your first move is to Google your question, like I just did.
The first 6 search results answered the question.
Several had the answer in the results summary, not to mention actually clicking on a result link.
I have edited the title so that the next time some one searches ( i hope) this thread will be easily found.

The VoLTE thread is very similar to my thread and its still in the general section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797205
I was informing people that unlocking is now legal (didn't see it posted) and then asked a question about our devices. It's more of a discussion (like the VoLTE thread) than a "I need help thread."
Just wanted it to get more views especially since it may (or may not) mean that folks can just call Sprint and get their phone unlocked instead of having to do the unlock th themselves.

If you labeled your thread with [Discussion] it may have stayed. It means you can unlock your phone to take it to another carrier http://lifehacker.com/you-can-now-legally-unlock-your-cellphone-heres-what-i-1614787933
Which for a short time was deemed illegal. As far as Sprint giving you an unlock code, it still requires carrier permission and for you to be free of contract. Sprint can still make that decision and is not forced to give you an unlock code. It is just not illegal for you to do it yourself.

Ah, so in reality, not much has changed in regards to carriers unlocking our phones?
In that case, it's really not big news after all.

Nope. It was a ridiculous law to begin with.

Do Pre-Orders take a long time to ship?

Preorder starts on 11/17. If I do it when do you guys think I'd get the phone. I'm in the USA.
Just wondering based on what you've heard.
There are threads discussing this on the OnePlus forums, the timeframe varies wildly.
Transmitted via Bacon
Also, does anyone know if preorders are opened for an entire day or just like one hour?
I'm obvioulsly asking because I can't find it when searching.
(I say this because I know xda loves to say "HAHAHAHA GO SEARCH FOR IT YOU NOOB")
Google: OnePlus pre order
Look at the first result.

Got it. But heres a more tricky question: for preorders do I have to pay with paypal or can I use a credit card?
I bet you cant answer that!
Are you trolling or what? All of the information you're asking for is readily available at the OnePlus site.

mmm also can you give me 3 invites? I don't need 1, I need 3. One for me and two for my friends. Thanks!
edit: if you only have 1 dont bother giving it to me, I need 3. Because I don't want my friends to be jealous.
Well, obviously you're not trying to search at all before posting. I'd advise you to review the forum rules and make some effort to follow them in the future. Thanks.
Here's the right thread for invites, BTW. Thread closed.

Change IMEI number

Hi all,
i'don't know if this is the right section to post my simple question:
how can i change the imei number of my mate 9?
Best Regards
I believe this type of discussion is forbidden under XDA's TOS.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA Labs
Why?? I need to change the imei for development purpose.
Because I'm pretty sure it's illegal
And it helps crooks to pass on stolen phones.
So, i can't ask about a procedure because another one can use it for "illegal purpose"......
extend my think: in internet i can't ask about a door because someone can break it....
Internet......what is your purpose in 2017??!?!
This is the end of the free internet for a 35 year old man!!
By gents!
It's good that you mention doors.
A door is meant to keep out crooks. So is IMEI.
You are asking how to break down doors.
And this is perfectly legal to ask...this is information, not disinformation. Until 2 year's ago this was a good forum, now seems that we are in a nazi-forum.
But, no problem...i found the solution from myself.
And If I upset someone's feelings, my apologize!!
Please, moderator close this ridiculous thread.

Are you serious? This is your first thread and in a space of minutes you violate the TOS and proceed to make a flippant comment comparing XDA to Nazism? Why so angry? Just take it as it is and move on.

I'm a old user with new account..... i'm started to write in this forum some years ago....and i posted questions and answers much more serious.
I'm not comparing xda, i'm comparing the answer in the forum!i'm comparing last user (kids user i hope). A forum does not have any think or idea, only the users.
I repeat, no problem....close the thread.
Bye

Well you should discuss this matter politely with the admins then. You're shooting the messenger here, we are merely users advising you on the TOS. No need to flip out like that.

At least kids can read the TOS.

I can't see why you would need to change IMEI for any development purpose, other than to spoof someone else's phone or you have stolen a phone, both of which is illegal.
So you are an old user with a new account, then you should know the rules of the forum.
Seems to me you have a stolen phone which is tied to someone's Huawei account and you cannot use it, and the only way for you to get in is by changing the IMEI.
I really hate people who steal phones. And anyone who helps them with hacking is just scum.
