The VoLTE thread is very similar to my thread and its still in the general section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797205
I was informing people that unlocking is now legal (didn't see it posted) and then asked a question about our devices. It's more of a discussion (like the VoLTE thread) than a "I need help thread."
Just wanted it to get more views especially since it may (or may not) mean that folks can just call Sprint and get their phone unlocked instead of having to do the unlock th themselves.

If you labeled your thread with [Discussion] it may have stayed. It means you can unlock your phone to take it to another carrier http://lifehacker.com/you-can-now-legally-unlock-your-cellphone-heres-what-i-1614787933
Which for a short time was deemed illegal. As far as Sprint giving you an unlock code, it still requires carrier permission and for you to be free of contract. Sprint can still make that decision and is not forced to give you an unlock code. It is just not illegal for you to do it yourself.

Ah, so in reality, not much has changed in regards to carriers unlocking our phones?
In that case, it's really not big news after all.

[Q] SIII Global mode Grievance

So to begin my problem, I have a SIII which is a wonderful device but since i don't root my phone anymore, its causing me a pain as to fully using the phone globally and not being able to use the Internet, , and i was wondering if there are anyone in the same situation as me. and was hoping we could get a long chain of complaints to the BBB so that verizon may unlock the feature which should have been present from the future! Maybe i am asking for too much, but if there are people with similar problem, then maybe we could see some action taken by verizon and actually be able to the phone in the US and abroad too!

From my experience you need root to change the APNs for data. why don't you just root? shouldn't be to hard
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I'm not sure that it was Verizon's decision. In any case, since it may be a while, you may just want to root. I'm overseas now and it wasn't hard for me to change apn's using apn manager pro. I set it as a system app first in titanium backup.

I think only the Verizon S3 and Verizon Note II has these issues, all other phone APN's can be changed without root!

I had a thought...

Ok so first off, sorry if this is in the wrong section, please correct me as im kinda new. Also, I have searched the thread and couldnt find anything on this but if this is a double post, im sorry.
Now as of right now, the galaxy s4 google edition is still just a rumor. If it turns out to be real, and the hardware is the same as the att version, is there any way we could get the odin image, decompile it, put the att modem and bootloader in, then flash it? Would it work?

Why not post this in here, or at least read the thread because it is already being discussed? At the time I am posting this, this thread is literally 2 posts above.

Yeah I saw this but it didnt exactly duscuss what im trying to here. What I would loke to know is if we could get the odin image and port it to the att version without having to unlock the bootloader or anything. Just flash it through odin as if it were a stock image.

Yeah in that other thread, they are linking to the definition on "****!" needless to say it's way off topic. I too am wondering the same. Being that there are no hardware differences, I don't see it being a problem to share Roms. It's already gonna support AT&T and T Mobile frequencies, so I think it will be a share great between the different models!

Well we are in the att galaxy s4 forum so why wouldnt we all be on the same topic? Its already annouced it will support att bands so no need for modifying

He's talking about using the information to unlock the bootloader for the SGS4 ATT version.
I think we'll just have to sit tight and see what the developers dig up and figure out.

To be honest, it all depends on which bootloader the Google version comes with. AT&T bootloader is locked but T-Mobile is unlocked. Now I don't know a lot about bootloaders so please correct me, but if the Google version comes unlocked, it would most likely be the same as the T-Mobile one. I know for a fact using a T-Mobile stock ROM through ODIN on an AT&T S4 does not work. So until the bootloader is unlocked you won't be able to flash the Google stock ROM.
Supporting both AT&T and T-Mobile networks simply means it will work on both frequencies of LTE service. This has nothing to do with the bootloader because unlocking the phone from AT&T doesn't unlock the bootloader but the phone will work on the T-Mobile network.

He specifically said using the AT&T bootloader. I don't think he's trying to unlock the bootloader this way, I just think he's trying to run stock Android using the same technique for getting out of a recovery loop (flashing stock ROM through ODIN). Without an unlocked bootloader this won't be possible because the ROM won't flash.

Unbelievable. why are we doing this? there are many threads on this...PLEASE PEOPLE! If you are new, I understand, but it is not hard to scroll down a few pages and see same topics that you can input your opinions. The G4 forums are not HUGE yet, real easy, just look.
I'll say it again before someone else has too, NO IT WILL NOT UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER! Bootloader encryption is deep and the kernel must be signed by AT&T in order to load. The Google GS4 is OBVIOUSLY NOT going to have the same bootloader since they are not AT&T, simple as that. Flash your GS4 with a Google ROM and Kernel and you will be bricked and or it just won't even flash.
NOW PLEASE STOP ASKING!
Jesus people, he's asking about the possibility of converting our phones into the Google Edition with an Odin flash. Where the hell did this get misconstrued as asking if it will unlock his bootloader? Take a couple benadryl and get off the computer for an hour. The guy just wants stock aosp on his phone, like many of us wouldn't mind having.

You need to calm down. Plain and simple. The other threads are talking about unlocking the bootloader, this one is not. He simply asked about flashing AOSP on an AT&T phone with the original bootloader.

I'm sorry I thought the OP was more intelligent then that and thought it was implied given you can't flash the ROM without an unlocked bootloader. Maybe YOU need to chill and stop being pompous. You've been a member for two days, I've been a member for two years.

You "thought the OP was more intelligent," however you must have decidedly skip on reading the FIRST sentence in the post where he is apologizing if its in the wrong section and that he is "new here." Your assumptions led you down the path to what Nitro posted and fairly gave me the same impression (without the name calling). Either way, its cleared up now. Lets just move on.

When I was brand new here, I sorta thought the same way. The things is though, I read every single thread and post about my phone. I didn't ask a question that was already answered ten times over. That's where noobs go wrong. They don't read. They're (often times) too lazy to do any of their own foot-work to try and solve their problem or answer their question. It's not so much people being pompous as it's devs and members are just tired of the same old thing over and over again. This has been going on long before I was a member.
There was a dev that made ROMs for my old phone. They were my favorite! You know what happened? That dev got tired of people posting the same questions and flooding his inbox with the same crap. So, because of lazy people, myself and everyone else that used his ROMs suffered. That's when I stopped caring about how some people respond to others. Spend a few years here and I think you'll have a better understanding of that.

There's a difference between someone starting a new thread and people flooding one particular dev. Besides, the issue here was unique (and apparently some "experienced" people still aren't grokking why).
People do need to chill out about this sort of thing. Besides, the search function is kind of ****ty and is not working half the time, so cut people some slack if there's some overlap. It's not going to hurt you.

[SOLVED]Does T-Mobile's Nexus 5 come unlocked?....YES IT IS UNLOCKED

Does anyone know if the Nexus 5's come unlocked? I was under the impression they don't come unlocked. I cut up an old Sprint sim and put it in, and it says "emergency calls | sprint" which makes me believe they're unlocked. Anyone have any luck?
first off, do not post questions in general, they go into q&a http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477886
secondly, i guess that you didnt search for the answer, because it is very easy to find. all nexus 5 come sim unlocked, it does not matter where you buy them.

XDA is not a Q&A web site
Your first move is to Google your question, like I just did.
The first 6 search results answered the question.
Several had the answer in the results summary, not to mention actually clicking on a result link.
I have edited the title so that the next time some one searches ( i hope) this thread will be easily found.

Change IMEI number

Hi all,
i'don't know if this is the right section to post my simple question:
how can i change the imei number of my mate 9?
Best Regards
I believe this type of discussion is forbidden under XDA's TOS.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA Labs
Why?? I need to change the imei for development purpose.
Because I'm pretty sure it's illegal
And it helps crooks to pass on stolen phones.
So, i can't ask about a procedure because another one can use it for "illegal purpose"......
extend my think: in internet i can't ask about a door because someone can break it....
Internet......what is your purpose in 2017??!?!
This is the end of the free internet for a 35 year old man!!
By gents!
It's good that you mention doors.
A door is meant to keep out crooks. So is IMEI.
You are asking how to break down doors.
And this is perfectly legal to ask...this is information, not disinformation. Until 2 year's ago this was a good forum, now seems that we are in a nazi-forum.
But, no problem...i found the solution from myself.
And If I upset someone's feelings, my apologize!!
Please, moderator close this ridiculous thread.

I can't see why you would need to change IMEI for any development purpose, other than to spoof someone else's phone or you have stolen a phone, both of which is illegal.
So you are an old user with a new account, then you should know the rules of the forum.
Seems to me you have a stolen phone which is tied to someone's Huawei account and you cannot use it, and the only way for you to get in is by changing the IMEI.
I really hate people who steal phones. And anyone who helps them with hacking is just scum.

What Modable phone are you using on Verizon's us network?

I am looking to upgrade my galaxy s5. Verizon is the worst but they are what works in my area. I may end up just buying another s5 because I want a phone with an unlockable bootloader that I can flash custom ROM's.
Does anyone know of anything besides a pixel, pixelXL or Essential PS 1 that has an unlockable bootloader and decent XDA custom ROM support? Please don't bother replying unless you have personality used said device on Verizon, because I have posted similar questions around XDA and found people are confused. I have had many people tell me ____ Motorola or ____Lg or ____HTC only to find the Verizon variant can't be bootloader unlocked.
Thanks for your time.

I do have 2 G900V devices with an unlocked bootloader myself but, it's not easy to determine what one has the CID11 or CID15 but, It's funny that I had made an offer of $40 on ebay for a G900T that's already unlocked with TWRP and CyanogenMod in it with a clean ESN and the seller accepted it and it's actually on it's way here now. I really didn't expect the seller to accept the offer that was half of what he asked for.
You'll be surprised on how many new/used devices are on ebay that's already unlocked with TWRP and a Custom Firmware as well.
Just my little suggestion for you...
I wish you the best of luck in your search!
