[Q] SIII Global mode Grievance - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So to begin my problem, I have a SIII which is a wonderful device but since i don't root my phone anymore, its causing me a pain as to fully using the phone globally and not being able to use the Internet, , and i was wondering if there are anyone in the same situation as me. and was hoping we could get a long chain of complaints to the BBB so that verizon may unlock the feature which should have been present from the future! Maybe i am asking for too much, but if there are people with similar problem, then maybe we could see some action taken by verizon and actually be able to the phone in the US and abroad too!

From my experience you need root to change the APNs for data. why don't you just root? shouldn't be to hard

I'm not sure that it was Verizon's decision. In any case, since it may be a while, you may just want to root. I'm overseas now and it wasn't hard for me to change apn's using apn manager pro. I set it as a system app first in titanium backup.

I think only the Verizon S3 and Verizon Note II has these issues, all other phone APN's can be changed without root!

[Q] Installing Non Market Apps..

Ok, I am sure folks have asked this before. I have done a search and still can not find a answer. I am wanting the option in my settings that will allow me to download non market apps.
I have rooted the phone and am running the 2.2 custom rom that I got before AT&T released theirs. When I go into setting to the area that should have the option to allow non market apps, it is not there.
I thought that once you rooted and installed the custom rom, it would give you this option as I know that AT&T blocks this on their firmware / rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Obviously you did not do a search and posts like need to be in q&a section. We had this place cleaned up a couple days ago to rid the general of threads like this.

You can use this to root, but then also to allow NM Apps. Real simple, just have to have the drivers installed on your computer.

First, This is my first time on this paticular website so knowing the exact area to post is not always the easiest as all forums are different.
Second, I am a member of different tech type forums out there and I would never slam someone like you are doing. The purpose of forums like this is to help people and not to see how big of a "****" you can be to someone.
You should keep in mind that you may need help someday on a product you have and you go online to get a answer and that person acts the way you did and see how you like it.
I have even ran forums before and have kicked people off that acted in this manner.... Just be careful on who you piss off.

I believe Astro File Manager also has this ability in the Preferences section..
There's no option, it just installs. There is an option in 2.3 though.

It is due to att removing the option for their devices. If att release a 2.3.3 update you can be sure that it will be removed from there as well. The reason you see it now is that att is the only one that does it and we are working with the euro version
I understand. Every custom rom I've seen just installs even though the option is not there.

[Q] Apps to Safely Remove

Hello,
I just got my Skyrocket yesterday and promptly rooted it. I uninstalled some of the more obvious AT&T applications but there were some I wasn't completely sure about; so I decided to wait, patience being a virtue and all.
So, has anyone (or will anyone) come up with a list of the apps we can safely remove from this device without it affecting the performance/capability of the phone?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Separate forum for I9305?

Really sorry if I missed this somewhere, but I am having issues with my new SGS3 LTE (I9305), is there a forum for this phone?
In case anyone might know the solution anyway, when I copy text it does not make it into the clipboard. I researched this issue and the I9300 seemed to have a bug where copying would crash the phone, but in my case everything looks normal, save for the lack of text in the clipboard. (I have installed Clipper to confirm this.) And of course, since I have nothing in the clipboard, the paste option never shows up. I don't really want to do a factory reset nor do I want to root it since it seems like such a tiny and easily fixable problem. Any help would be much appreciated!
There are a few threads here relating to the i9305, but no separate forum yet.

Its funny cause the HTC x HTC s sprint s3 at&t s3 all have there own forums . But Samsung's best phone i9305 still doesn't
I think it's best to wait and see if it's compatible with i9300 resources first. I really hope it is. I know for a solid fact the 4G resources stuff is present in the i9300 APK's (like the 4G logo is present in the SystemUI.apk on my phone)
If It is I'll be happy to buy one.

already done,, I think quite a few people have. I think they are really waiting to see how big the uptake is and how much dev work is applied to it, so I guess we just have to be patient

No 4g signal

My brother recently purchased an S3 off ebay to replace his Droid Razr. The reason for replacing the Razr was that he couldn't get any 4g on it. I gave him my gnex to use while his S3 arrived and he had perfect 4g on it. Now that his s3 arrived he has no 4g yet again but is able to recieve 3g signal. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
also, if this thread is in the wrong place then mods feel free to move it.
Probably should go in q&a since it's a specific question but at least it's not in development
My guess would be it's a bad sim or defective phone. Have you tried to reprovisioning? There should probably be a guide in the sticky by droidstyle or just use the search.

If you are rooted try different modem/rpm and if that doesnt work see about the sim card. Just make sure you go back to stock before you go to verizon
Maybe start really simple with - is the phone's Verizon account setup for 4G?
If it is a stock S3 you should be ale to make it Verizon's responsibility to make it work.

I had a thought...

Ok so first off, sorry if this is in the wrong section, please correct me as im kinda new. Also, I have searched the thread and couldnt find anything on this but if this is a double post, im sorry.
Now as of right now, the galaxy s4 google edition is still just a rumor. If it turns out to be real, and the hardware is the same as the att version, is there any way we could get the odin image, decompile it, put the att modem and bootloader in, then flash it? Would it work?

Yeah I saw this but it didnt exactly duscuss what im trying to here. What I would loke to know is if we could get the odin image and port it to the att version without having to unlock the bootloader or anything. Just flash it through odin as if it were a stock image.

Yeah in that other thread, they are linking to the definition on "****!" needless to say it's way off topic. I too am wondering the same. Being that there are no hardware differences, I don't see it being a problem to share Roms. It's already gonna support AT&T and T Mobile frequencies, so I think it will be a share great between the different models!

He's talking about using the information to unlock the bootloader for the SGS4 ATT version.
I think we'll just have to sit tight and see what the developers dig up and figure out.

To be honest, it all depends on which bootloader the Google version comes with. AT&T bootloader is locked but T-Mobile is unlocked. Now I don't know a lot about bootloaders so please correct me, but if the Google version comes unlocked, it would most likely be the same as the T-Mobile one. I know for a fact using a T-Mobile stock ROM through ODIN on an AT&T S4 does not work. So until the bootloader is unlocked you won't be able to flash the Google stock ROM.
Supporting both AT&T and T-Mobile networks simply means it will work on both frequencies of LTE service. This has nothing to do with the bootloader because unlocking the phone from AT&T doesn't unlock the bootloader but the phone will work on the T-Mobile network.

He specifically said using the AT&T bootloader. I don't think he's trying to unlock the bootloader this way, I just think he's trying to run stock Android using the same technique for getting out of a recovery loop (flashing stock ROM through ODIN). Without an unlocked bootloader this won't be possible because the ROM won't flash.

Unbelievable. why are we doing this? there are many threads on this...PLEASE PEOPLE! If you are new, I understand, but it is not hard to scroll down a few pages and see same topics that you can input your opinions. The G4 forums are not HUGE yet, real easy, just look.
I'll say it again before someone else has too, NO IT WILL NOT UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER! Bootloader encryption is deep and the kernel must be signed by AT&T in order to load. The Google GS4 is OBVIOUSLY NOT going to have the same bootloader since they are not AT&T, simple as that. Flash your GS4 with a Google ROM and Kernel and you will be bricked and or it just won't even flash.
NOW PLEASE STOP ASKING!
Jesus people, he's asking about the possibility of converting our phones into the Google Edition with an Odin flash. Where the hell did this get misconstrued as asking if it will unlock his bootloader? Take a couple benadryl and get off the computer for an hour. The guy just wants stock aosp on his phone, like many of us wouldn't mind having.

You "thought the OP was more intelligent," however you must have decidedly skip on reading the FIRST sentence in the post where he is apologizing if its in the wrong section and that he is "new here." When I was brand new here, I sorta thought the same way. The things is though, I read every single thread and post about my phone. I didn't ask a question that was already answered ten times over. That's where noobs go wrong. They don't read. They're (often times) too lazy to do any of their own foot-work to try and solve their problem or answer their question. It's not so much people being pompous as it's devs and members are just tired of the same old thing over and over again. This has been going on long before I was a member.
There was a dev that made ROMs for my old phone. They were my favorite! You know what happened? That dev got tired of people posting the same questions and flooding his inbox with the same crap. So, because of lazy people, myself and everyone else that used his ROMs suffered. That's when I stopped caring about how some people respond to others. Spend a few years here and I think you'll have a better understanding of that.

There's a difference between someone starting a new thread and people flooding one particular dev. Besides, the issue here was unique (and apparently some "experienced" people still aren't grokking why).
People do need to chill out about this sort of thing. Besides, the search function is kind of ****ty and is not working half the time, so cut people some slack if there's some overlap. It's not going to hurt you.
