Bad TWRP installation. tablet brick ? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a transformer tf300t and tried to install a custom rom lollipop.
I did install twrp and tried to install the rom but there was a failure.
Since then I can't reboot on my old os version.
I am looping on TWRP interface each time I try to reboot the tablet.
Did I brick the tablet ?
Thanks for your help.

Possibly, but we wouldn't know, if you don't feed details.
Read through the threads in this section to get the idea what information is needed.

No, what you are looking for is the fastboot utility, will let you write things to the tablet from your PC (Linux works best/easiest).

Hello,
Here are some précision on my case.
I was in rom stock 4.1 and wnated to flash the latest lollipop rom.
I downloaded KatKiss-5.0_TF300T_017.zip and installed the TWRP tools in version 2.6
I tried to flash the rom and had an error.
I understood that it was because of the version of TWRP nad installed a new version 2.8
Then I managed to flash the KatKiss-5.0_TF300T_017.zip rom, but when I reboot the tablet, it loops indefinitly.
Do you have a clue ?
Thanks

So installation went without error?
Did you make a wipe of cache and dalvik?

After I installed the TWRP 2.8 the install was successful, but I did not make a wipe of cache and dalvik before reboot.
When I noticed the mistake, I tried to reflash and then did the wipe but it still does not work.
I tried to reset the tablet and to re flash again but still no success.

So, need further information:
1. version of bootloader
2. version (exact) of TWRP (2.8.x.x)
3. are you familiar with flashboot?

I am not certain of the bootloader version. When I reboot the device I have this information
"Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00 e> released by "WW_epad-10.4.2.9-20120809" A03
For TWRP this is version 2.8.4.0
Concerning flashboot, I am not realy familiar but I will try to follow your advises...

That bootloader is not uptodate.
Go to ASUS support site and download newest Firmware:
http://www.asus.com/de/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/HelpDesk_Download/
Observe your SKU (WW not US/JP)!
Flash via fastboot according to instruction given here for tf201:

Just one precision, I tried to follow the procedure, but my tablet was not recognized by my computer and I had the message "waiting for device" in the windows terminal command
How can I run the fastboot directly with TWRP which seems the only way to interact with the tablet ?
Thanks

1. You have ICS bootloader -> update by flashing latest firmware from ASUS site.
2. On ICS bootloader you cab fastboot navigating to USB symbol.
3. If your tab isn't recognized, check and install appropriate drivers.

You may search the tf300 forums for ghost touches firmware fix. Not sure that is relevant for this. I had to replace my tablet, as this happened within 2 days of me buying it. Ghost touches seems to be a very common problem with this tablet, some hardware issue I think.

What exactly is that, where is it from?
Recovery shouldn't have anything to do with installed Android version.

If I were to guess, it's a different CWM recovery using JB Kernel?. It probably came from 4pda.ru which is a russian site. HAs a lot of android tablet stuff.
Just a guess. Might research it a little and see what I come up with.
It's not exactly the easiest site to navigate through.

I don't exactly see the need of a new recovery, since it works independent of the Android version. An "unknown" recovery would be possibly unsafe as well.

This is not "unknown" recovery. This 6.0.1.1 with kernel from bootloader JB (boot.img)
And this recovery normal mount all partition, make backup-restore and other function.
For ICS bootloader need original recovery 6.0.1.1
For JB bootloader my recovery, rebuilding from original JB bootloader and CMW recovery

You should give some info when posting, otherwise it is "unknown".
The boot.img contains the kernel not the bootloader. The kernel source is yet to be released by Acer and we don't know if Acer has blocked the dangerous emmc wipe command (which will randomly brick tablets, the more you wipe, the riskier you are) like I did on my kernel or not.

But what it does not, it does not flashes. Freezes and hangs. Have my tab after 30 minutes. removed and restarted, now it hangs in APX mode. Do you have a solution for this?
Hi There
after i recovered my Tab to work, i´ve done a flash with this Recovery and it freezes.
After this i only was able to turn off the Decvice.
Now it seem´s that i can´t turn on, Black Screen, no LED, only thing the Computer tells an USB Device want´s to install.
Try to install APX drivers an failed.
some ideas?

"This recovery" meaning mine or Gigabyte0's?
If you're in APX mode, you're out of luck and the service center will probably need to replace your mainboard.

Yes, it meant the version of Gigabyte0. Does not sound good.
Spread the word please:
ONLY USE PAWITP'S RECOVERY UNLESS YOU WANT A BRICKED TABLET
If pawitp's recovery is not working for you, then wait. The Recovery released by Gigabyte0 and found on 4PDA is built with Acer's kernel and Acer still has not fixed the brick bug!
Again, do NOT use Gigabyte0's recovery!

Maybe you can also let this know on 4PDA.ru, as I am not Russian (and you are) you can probably explain it better:
In the Acer 3.0 Android kernel the command MMC_CAP_ERASE, which has caused all the old bricks, is still present. At least it is in the A110 3.0 kernelsource and I have no reason to believe they would remove it in the A700 3.0 kernelsource but not in the A110 one.
When this command exists in the kernel, and the Recovery also allows it (Recovery can also disable it, but the current A700 recovery doesn't do that), you are almost guarantueed a brick.
If you could translate that to 'the Russians' I guess we can save a few more people from bricking.

Not booting after AOPK 4.2.2 installation

Hi
Today I've tried to free my TF300T from the stock rom. It was running on the last official version from ASUS (JB 4.2).
Firstly I did unlock the boot loader with the official tool from ASUS.
The I have installed TWRP (fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob) as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
And at last, I installed AOPK 4.2.2 as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112369
Now my device always stopps booting at the ASUS screen. I still can enter the recovery mode and I have tried to reinstall AOPK 4.2.2 several times. Unfortunately with no success. The system still doesn't boot.
Does someone have an idea? Many thanks!
And i have twrp v.2.4.4.0 installed.
If just tried to reinstall the stock ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.6.1.8 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.2) - 2013.03.11 update.
Twrp always reports: Failed.
Nobody? I would really appreciate a hint.
Thanks

That AOKP version that you are trying to install is not compatible with your tf300, you were running the latest Asus official 4.2 and the bootloader is not the same.
You need to install either Energy ROM or Cleanrom 4.3

Since you followed that guide for upgrade i am guessing you got his link for the right recovery for this bootloader? It should look like:
openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-tf300t-4.2.blob
The one for this bootloader have a -4.2. at the end.
If so I would put the CROMI 4.3 rom (its great) on a known working SD card and do a full wipe. Cache, dalvik, factory reset, and wipe internal. Possibly even format data on the internal since there may still be data from a rom meant for the 4.1.1 bootloader. Then i would try to reinstall CROMI.
Also if you just want stock, there is a stock rooted rom available: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243025

As long as you can use fastboot, replace it with the version that works on your bootloader:
TWRP 2.4.4. 0-4.2.
CAREFUL: A lot of people bricked their tablets in this state.
Read one of the many threads on this particular issue.

OK, so flashing fails silently for some reason.
Do you see the blue flash bar on the bootloader screen, when fast boot says "writing"?
Never had any fastboot issues on Linux, but I have seen lots of people having issues with drivers on Windows. If you are using Windows, you might want to read up, how to make sure you have the proper drivers installed.
Short of that, no idea. :-/
Maybe can you post the full output of fastboot?

Make sure you're using the newest fastboot. There may be a bug on your current version.
Back in August I soft-bricked my tablet - no recovery and no ADB access. Fastboot would turn on on the tablet, but fastboot on my computer (Debian) kept hanging on "waiting for device". I had used fastboot on the same computer a couple weeks earlier to flash a recovery, and lsusb showed all the correct device info, so I thought fastboot was broken on the tablet and I was SOL. Well, fastboot got added to the Debian repos at some point, and I installed that version. 8 months and 2 fastboot updates went by before I even attempted to fix my tablet again (2 weeks ago), but somehow it worked, and I now have an awesome tablet to play with. I have no idea what happened with fastboot when my tablet first bricked, but I can only assume that one of the fastboot updates fixed a nasty bug that only showed up when I bricked the tablet.
I know your device is being recognized by fastboot, and your situation is much different than mine was, but you could be experiencing a completely different bug.

In your bootloader, what version of ASUS firmware does it say you are running. It makes a big difference for which version of TWRP you should be using.
edit:
sorry in your first post i could see you listed it, I think you may be getting this besause you dont have the TWRP version for 4.2 jellybean. the versions that are compatible are labeled -4.2 at the end.
here is the link for the right twrp for asus firmware 10.6.1.8 - http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf300t/openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-tf300t-4.2.blob

at first i didn't install the correct TWRP but now i can't even flash the correct one that's my problem
I believe this may be the same issue that alot of devices suffered from when the 4.2.1 update first came out.
Here is a thread on the issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179874
From what I understand it seems that the 4.2.1 bootloader changed the way that the partition table was setup and thus all previous versions of custom recoveries could not mount any partitions (twrp would ask for password & not be able to mount any partition & cwm also not able to mount any partition) and a new twrp-4.2 version had to be made specifically for the 4.2.1 bootloader.
Still not sure as to why this caused the fastboot issue with the majority of people that flashed an incompatible version of twrp or cwm.
The fastboot issue I am talking about is that when you use the "flash" command everything will seem to go fine , it will say writing... and successful on the command prompt but you will not get any blue progress bar on the tablet itself and after the flash command has completed the fastboot reboot command will not reboot the tablet. Which I find very odd as other fastboot commands will still work without issue.
The only know solution if this is the issue you have is to replace the motherboard.

Well, don't give up yet. That there is no known solution does not mean we can't find any.
If fastboot is broken, can you access via adb, while in recovery?

I'm in the same situation that you're in. I can send simple fastboot and ADB commands to the tab but as soon as I try to write anything, it just freezes and requires a hard reset. You'll find that you will be able to erase and send simple reset/info request but no write commands. You'll be able to erase your recovery partition but you will not be able write anything new to it. Good luck!
I ordered a MB from ebay last night. Now I just need to find a guide on replacing it.....

How are you trying to install it? Recoveries are installed by bootloader and should be in the same directory as 'fastboot.exe'.
Also have you made sure you've got the right recovery for you boot loader version (ICS, JB or 4.2)?

Have you every upgraded your tablet to 4.2? If so DO NOT flash that recovery. It will brick your device.

If you look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377
In Part 3, that explains how to flash recovery.
I personally wouldn't downgrade TWRP, is there a reason you want to downgrade?
I was upgrade to 4.2 JB Stock
How Can I get starts normal System?

What do you mean by 'normal system'?
Again DO NOT flash that recovery.
You've got a 4.2 bootloader, but that recovery is for 4.1. If you apply it you WILL brick your device.

I haveCustom ROm with 4.1 and want to install another Rom with 4.2
I was install JB 4.2 from Asus page and Recovery : openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300tg-JB.blob
And that TWRP didnt recognize SDcard. I was wipe data and my Asus still starts to recovery.
When I adb reboot to bootloader and push OS its starts normal to OS.
I want to restore to normal boot to JB 4.2, how Can I do it?

Whilst you're on Android 4.1, you can flash openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300tg-JB.blob
But once you've upgraded to Android 4.2 from ASUS you must use recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300tg-4.2.blob

Unfortunately I can't help you with why the SD Card didn't get recognised. I'm sure someone else will help.
There are guides around on this forum; rather than flashing the official ASUS update via recovery, it can also be done by bootloader. I think it involves 'system.blob' to be pushed to the device, and the update ZIP file to be on the /sdcard/ directory.

I was install by fastboot recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300tg-4.2.blob but it still not recognize sdcard internal and external, why?
I was install SW from Asus page by fastboot and fastboot bootloader.
Device starts only to TWRP. I didnt know why?
When i boot device to bootloader and push system Android, it starts normal to OS and work good.

So you want to install a custom ROM? Then you don't need to root first, you can start directly with installing TWRP via fastboot.

Where did you get stuck with fastboot? Did you read my guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891
It is safe to downgrade to .8 but there is no need for it. You can root the .10 firmware with Towelroot v1 as _that mentioned earlier.
Download it from here, unzip the file and install the apk on your tablet, then run it.

Whatever you installed, it's not my rom. I'm just trying to help users along. Not a single dev bone in my body ?
So how did you solve your recovery flash trouble? Post it so others can learn from it.
If you flashed the Asus apps they should be in your app drawer??
If you are unlocked you can just flash the SuperUser.zip from the chainfire su on xda to root as well.

rom2sd1.zip has nothing to do with this... Why are you flashing it?
You flashed the Asus apps in recovery and went through the Aroma installer to select those you want?
Don't know if the installer gives you the option to save the installation log at the end. Look for it, flash again.
