I have this problem with my Z3. I commute to school by train and every now and then I lose signal because of tunnels etc. But the phone is having a hard time recovering signal. Sometimes I have to reboot. Sometimes theres the red X on the SIM icon but usally it's just that there's good signal strenght but no data connection. Other times a reboot doesn't solve it instantly and I'll just have to wait. Or I have to go and manually select my carrier (Tele 2, Sweden) but it doesn't work all the time either. So there's no consistent fix.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem? On my way home 2 stops before mine there's a tunnel where you always lose reception and sometimes I can't even recover it before I get of the train 10 minutes later in an area where you normally have full reception.
I've got a D6603, rooted .77 (PRFCreator). The problem started occuring before rooting. Can't remember if it was before updating to .77 (Had .77, downgraded for root then upgraded again). Carrier is Tele 2 in Sweden.

I also have this issue, when I switch to CM12, the signal back. I don't know why my D5563 can't get data traffic from stock ROM :crying:
I have the same issue but with calls. If my signal is low and I try calling someone no one can hear me and it drops. I am on Telus, stock generic firmware. Going to try reinstalling it once the files finish redownloading.

I searched and did not see anyone else experiencing this issue. I have a Black 32 GB stock rooted. It worked fantastic for about 2 weeks and then all of a sudden I noticed the following:
Day 1: No SMS received. I was on WIFI and had network signal in the notification bar but did not receive SMS that were sent to me.
Day 2: No Cellular Signal. I looked at the APN and it had disappeared. I attempted to add it again and reboot the phone and it wouldn't add. The phone began rebooting on its own and continuing with a bootloop after running for about 10 seconds it would reboot again. It did this throughout the day. I called Google and they had me do some soft and hard resets. After the soft reset the phone would connect right after startup then disconnect after 2 seconds and reboot itself. I hard reset the phone and relocked the bootloader and reinstalled factory recovery and it is still doing it.
Google has given me authorization for an exchange but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas because I'd rather not be without a phone for 2 weeks.
BTW I am on Straight Talk
I had a similar issue
I had a similar issue. After a month of functioning normally, my Nexus(rooted using CFroot, stock ROM, T-Mobile) lost the ability to get reception. First, it showed network signal, but cell access was not functional. A few hours later, bars dropped to zero, and it seemed like I could only get reception in the strongest signal areas. I would get signal sporadically when driving, but never when I was stationary. The phone never had problems with rebooting though.
After spending a day trying to fix it, factory reset, relock, flashing a factory image, I called Google, and they warranteed the phone.

It just seems so much like a software issue as opposed to hardware that it surprises me they are willing to warranty it... but I guess I'm not the expert.
How long did it take you to get your replacement phone?

I got a replacement phone pretty quickly. The phone shipped the day after I ordered the replacement, but YMMV.
Why do you think it was a software issue? The problem persisted after I switch back to a factory image. The replacement phone, running the same software does not have the same issue.

That makes sense that it was a hardware issue. I guess it could be a faulty radio or something. I'm glad to hear you got your device shipped so soon. Did you end up having to pay shipping?
I ran a nexus 5 for about 4 days and went through two of them both having issues holding a signal. Both phones would start with LTE and then drop to 2g go to 3g and then 4g back to no bars and then 2g and 3g. I was stock all the way and I wish the nexus 5 worked better. It could be a software issue as when I took the OTA to 4.4.2 it became worse. All the areas I was in while this happened were areas that were supposed to be strong for 4g and LTE.
That said I I need a phone that is a bit more reliable even though I'm on T-Mobile. I switched to the LG G2. It has a better antennae and doesn't keep bouncing between modes when in various areas.
I have a problem with my Nexus 5 that i would like some help to troubleshoot.
When I'm on cellular network i often have full reception on 4g, when suddenly it drops to absolute zero all of the sudden, data is disconnected and no phone calls can be made during that time. If i wait 10-15sec it is connecting again and up to full strength.
This happens all the time with a few minutes between each time, and has no affect of the location I'm at.
Often I'm just surfing the web when it comes up that this requires internet connection, and notices the bars are gone, and have to wait a few seconds before its back online again.
What would be the best steps to troubleshoot this? Is there any radio log on the phone that i can tail for errors?
Can it be hardware error? Can it be that the simcard looses connection to the hardware?
Im currently running a custom rom, but it was the same with stock when i tried that.
Any help appreciated!

Does it do it on other phoness? I've found that my carrier is updating towers in my area. When T-Mobile US was upgrading their network to LTE and changing panels, literally signal that was once there would be gone for upwards of a week.

No i had a Nexus 4 just before, using the same rom and Provider, worked fine then. Have had this issue for about 1,5 month.
Thanks for the answer though
I'm having exactly the same issue. Though for me it's not happening all the time, only when I'm connected to VPN. It's still very annoying because VPN disconnects when the signal drops.

Flash the latest radio and see if that helps although I think your custom ROM probably has the latest but you never know http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557523
Hey Guys,
i am on drei.at (3-AT) and since i upgraded from CM11 to the lollipop factory image (currently without root) my signal is much weaker than before. My new baseband version is M8974A-2.0.50.2.21, reverting back does not make a difference. I had the same problem with my Nexus 4 which i dumped for the Nexus 5.
The months before i updated the phone everything worked normal and as it should but now if i move the phone from one room to another or even take a walk outside it will loose the connection to the carrier and changes to roaming. The real problem is that it get stuck in roaming and cant get back to 3-AT, the only way to fix it is to restart the phone or search manually for the net.
After that it works till it drops the connection and the whole process starts from the beginning.
I can only compare the signal strength with the normal signal strength icon.
Work before 2-4 bars (maximum one connection drop per day)
Work after 1-2 bars (connection drop around every 10 minutes or if i change the room)
Home before: 3-5 bars (no connection drop)
Home after: 1-3 bars (many connection drops depending on position)
I hope you can give me some ideas to fix this. Thank you for your input!
Greetings

Flash the old baseband. http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095
As written i tried a bunch of older Modems but had no luck. I tried one of the later modems and now i'm two days on M8974A-2.0.50.1.17. For now eveything works normal again!
Thank You!
I was having problems with the modem that comes with the Nexus 5 factory Android 5 image and flashed to baseband m8974a-2.0.50.1.16 (Android 4.4.4 radio). That improved my signal strength some but I'm still getting signal drops, just less frequent when the phone is just sitting on its charger in a fixed location. I'm in the USA on AT&T's network. Do you suggest I try the baseband radio M8974A-2.0.50.1.17, even though that is only included with a version of Android listed for certain countries?
I had similar problem although im in Europe and problem was in APN settings....after days or tying to set my APN it worked finally and i was able to catch LTE that disappeared after upgrade to 5.0 along with poor signal and dropouts off the network completely.
cause my carrier support was bad even they provided me half correct information..
about flashing another baseband they are total noobs and dont even know what the baseband is...
Any way connection is still poor but at least constant even with LTE with 5.0 baseband.

My phone is dropping cellular signal without warning. Cycling airplane mode or cellular network mode does not fix it. Only rebooting the phone has succeeded in getting signal back. This problem started last night. Since then, I have experienced it three times.
Further info:
I've had the phone for a little over a year. I did a factory reset when I installed L. I am running stock.
Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

Mine does it all the time on lollipop. I moved to a different state a few months back, where I was living in florida I didnt have the issue but when I moved across the country it started for me. I went to att after troubleshooting all I could and they informed me that they dont have a reliable lte network here...it exists but its weak and slow. So I set my cellular preference setting to 3g and since then it rarely disconnects or drops signal. When I go to an area that lte is good I switch it to lte and it holds fine till I get back home.
Have my Z5 since before christmas, was working very well till 7 days ago, suddenly dropped from H+ to Edge, then no network, and its been like that most of the time ever since, do a network search, sometimes it finds all the network, sometimes it finds only LTE, most of the time it cannot connect to a network. when I walk outside I can get a connection, but sometimes it cannot make calls, text or data with full signal on H+, for the last 7 days, if I walk outside by 5 feet away from the house I get a signal, walk another 40feet further I have no signal, walk another 30feet further I have a signal, while I have a Z and a s6 both working fine on H+ on the same network, swapping sims made no difference to the z5, and my sim works in all other phones perfect.
anyone experienced this?

only had a few games installed, and word, nothing other than that, phone bought new in December 2015, 1 week after MM, was using Androplus v22 and Romaur v2 phone sitting on charger, with good H+ signal suddenly dropped to edge for less than a minute, then no service. have the S6's and a XZ here sitting side by side, they all work perfect with H+ except the Z5, swapping sims makes no different, but the sim from Z5 working in all other handset, all sim are billpay on same network

How they are going to replace a phone with unlocked bootloader and with custom kernel?
Did you flash your phone with full firmware and full wipe?

I did, tried 5 different ftf full wipe everytime.
yea bad move for unlocking, certainly wouldn't go with my current provider again, regardless of unlocked bootloader, they have no intention of replacement.
I just checked the antennas they are fine, only thing I see different is with or without the grey antenna wire connected or not, it made no difference to the signal, sub antenna looks perfect and main antenna look perfect too. there's nothing to is just metal contacts.
if the fault is not the board then it be down to software, the phone works in area with good signal, in town and city I get 4g+ and download speed is great, but upload speed still poor, would it be the ic on the board?
PS. the Z5 is much easier to open than anything else I worked on before
maybe a silly question, but should I unlock the simlock first before I unlock the bootloader? this is my second z5, first z5, a week after bootloader unlocked, no network, no sim work in it, no TA backup but it does work in area with strong coverage, even on 4G+ with full signal
bit worry to do anything with the new one now
