LP ROM with good SoT - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I know there's no such thing as the best ROM here, but I'm sure there's one with the best battery performance. I'm currently running the official nighlies, and I barely get 3 ½ ~ 4 hs of SoT.
What do you guys recommend?
Also, I'm experiencing some touchscreen issues. Typing is getting really hard because of the famous ghosting issue. Any tips for that?
Sorry for bothering, and thanks in advance!

Actually it depends upon your usage.
But as per my experience for OPO for LP based ROMs
I am pretty much satisfied with BlissPop with Franco kernel on it
I tried PA, CM12 and some more, but above combination I liked.

As @Mr hOaX said it depends on your usage, your apps, your signal strength, your WiFi router, and an endless amount of other variables. The only way to find out which one will be best for you is through your own testing.

Thanks! I'll give BlissPop a try. With your usage/settings, how many hours of SoT are you getting?

Really basic usage, social networks, email, chrome and a few photos.
Cellular signal is always decent, and my WiFi signal is always strong. I don't really think it gets more basic than that. Oh, I also have a moto 360 always connected.
I will try Blisspop. Thanks guys.

The smart watch will have a huge impact on your battery life. Plus, even if you and another guy have the same phone, on the same network, with the exact same phone setup, you can have drastically different battery life if you're living just one house away from each other. And that's only taking into account one variable (signal strength).

I get more than 7hrs SOT on each charge cycle.. @timmaaa is right.. Radio plays most important role..
You can underclock or undervolt to get some more juice from your battery..
If you don't customize the ROM and other apps, they'll unnecessary result in wakelocks and hence poor battery life..

Andromadus vs. Jellytime vs. PACman vs. Pure CM10

Hello,
at the moment i am using Jellytime. For now i am happy with this, but i think the battery life could be just better. So which rom from above offers you the best battery lifetime?
im using pacman.. the battery life is good.. i can use the phone the whole day(surfing, internet, texting, music...).. i always plug my phone in before going to bed, and i still have around 10% left

Me too. Battery life is very short using Pacman v18.0, at most 5 hours. The screen is the process that consumes more battery. Maybe it is only a my problem, but with Fallout v.5 I didn't have this problem (but others :laugh.
Well I find the battery life good on pure CM10.
If it wasnt for the graphics glitches when browsing, it'd be a really good ROM!
I have installed Pacman v18.0 about 3 days ago and am very impressed with the ROM. No problem with battery life but one major problem with the phone randomly going into Sim Lock mode. Could be after 5 minutes, could be after 5 hours and sometimes while just using it.
PACman, way to go.
I'm using Andromadus CM10.1 and battery is good...Overall is good except Bluetooth that doesn't work yet...

Mine has about an hours worth of battery...
For now I'm switching to my sense rom
On the latest build (build 10) of Andromadus 10.1 I found that the bluetooth was fixed!
Overall, at this time, I believe that the 3 andromadus ROMs are by far the best Jellybean effords!
Thank GOD I got here...
Could someone help me with rom that includes these features?
1. The official ics look (nexus ics)
2. That includes all apps like the sensed ics got. (fM radio, voice recorder, youtube etc)
3. My wifi doesnt turn on when i use any custom rom It just says "Turning on wifi" for the whole day.
4. The settings tab normal (not the tablet type like pacman got)
....
Thanks

some people prefer to UV their kernels. Some people don't prefer. Some kernels allow UV, some don't. see it all comes down to preference,of course UV also may cause performance to decrease. so it stills come down to preference.

It's just general deviation about the opportunities offered by kernels...

Hmm, when ppl say try it yourself, it simply means that u would have to flash the rom to know what's best for u.
Everyone uses his/her phone differently, so basicly there is no ideal rom that pleases everyone.
Everyone will you give a different opinion in terms of battery/speed/etc. That's why it is a bit pointless in asking what's the "best rom" for the other person when the usage is different.
So no point having second doubt and just flash the phone, try every single rom, i have flash from sense to cm to ics and now back to gb.
Go ahead and experiment the roms for yourself. Today someone might give u a suggestion, the next day a another. that's why it is consider pointless in asking such question as 'which is the best can u recommend me' and much better to try it for yourself instead of being shortchange in case there is another better than that is being suggested.
Camera Issue
Does any one facing camera issue?
I tried installing many JB roms but camera lags in all while video recording.
Is there any work around for this??
Thanks..

4g/3g problems

OK so I've had this problem with ever ROM except original touchwiz ROMs. My 3g and 4g will random stop working and it reconnects maybe after a reboot or just whenever. This is quit frustrating and in tired of using my internet when something else wants me to.
If you know whats wrong and the solution that would be awesome if you don't. Then please don't respond.

Too general. If you want help you need to be specific. What is your current ROM? What is your baseband version? Saying "every ROM" tells us nothing.

Okay so I all the basebands k3 k4 and uxm whatever. I wipe everything.I use cwm. And im telling every rom but the ones thqt are stock. As in miui cm 10 aokp asop pac man everything pretty much. Only oone that works is touch wiz roms. Like embryo
I think i have a similar problem. I was getting all sorts of weird reboots on stock so decided to try CM10 stable. Love everything about it but having issues with the signal. Have tried 4 or 5 different basebands - currently using i727UCLL3. when i have signal its great, but i have spotty reception at work. Once the phone looses the signal, about half the time it doesn't pick a signal back up unless i put it in airplane mode, then usually it refreshes and is ok for a while. however sometimes, even when it looks like i have signal, i have no internet connectivity and have to reboot the phone to get everything working again - this happens every 2-3 days usually on average. I'm in the philly area so based on the name of the original guy posting maybe its a more local issue but who knows. any help appreciated. thanks!
hey my name is philly lol. but i do live in VA so maybe its a region thing idk. still no fix. only thing that works which isnt worth it half the time, is embryo its CONSTANT 4g no problem. but for me that battery life is awfull.

I think he was referring to the battery life issue. Battery life is extremely subjective and based on each user's habits and settings. Other Embryo users are able to get less "awful" battery life, hence "User error."
No one has the formula for best battery life because everyone's usage varies. There are all sorts of guides, tips and tricks on here to help extend your battery life. Mitigating wakelocks should always be the first place you look to extend your battery.

[Q] Stock + GB or ROM?

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your help so far! Love this forum.
I'm pretty noob when it comes to Android customization, so I wanted your opinion: I'm trying to decide whether to run a stable, fast ROM, or simply stock with GravityBox and Franco Kernel.
Here are my considerations:
I'm not an advanced user, but I do use my phone a lot for work and personal things like email, browser, gps, videos, etc. Since I rely on it a lot, stability is pretty key. However, I get really bothered by some UI restrictions on stock (in particular non-customizable Quick Settings, non-customizable status/nav bars, and no PIE, but other small things count too). GravityBox is sufficient for the customization I need, but at this point speed and battery life come into consideration also. I wouldn't mind a longer battery since I use the phone pretty heavily. Speed is a consideration in that it would help me get things done faster.
So I guess my dilemma is whether I should use stock while relying on GB for customization and Franco kernel for battery efficiency, or if I should run a stable, fast ROM like SlimKat for the same purposes?
Xposed will slow things down so IMHO if a ROM has all your needs, use that.
That said I use a ROM and xposed

Yep, SlimKat, If stock Slim is missing a feature, about 50 people in that thread build their own Slim with some mods. One guy builds a version that has a DL/UL speed indication, L-style navbar buttons, and a bunch of other things.
Kernel, use Code_Blue. I prefer it over Franco. Just don't use the stock Slim kernel.

I'll add my usual comment..... Lol
Roms have near nothing to do with battery life. It's setup and usage that make or break battery life.
Don't factor battery life into Rom decisions.... They're all the same. ?

The only way a ROM can really affect battery is if a feature is designed poorly or there's a derp in the build..
But yeah, you can't really improve "ROM battery life", you can only make sure there aren't any problems which affect it negatively.

I've used every Rom and kernel almost and after setting each up how I regularly do, and with similar usage patterns always....my battery times were always similar.
I never play with the clock speeds I should add......but that's my experience. The roms or kernels I used made no real difference to my battery life.
?
Yes I've seen lots of "claims"....And guess what, many believe them. ?

[Q] why does the first day on fresh installed rom always have longest batterylife

I have been noticing a trend across all my devices: the first day on almost all roms is always the best in batterylife.
Usually people say let a rom settle(which I find bull**** cause it should work getgo optimized). I however found that first day, or first charge with all my apps and regular usage pattern battery is the best.
Does anyone know why that is and how I can switch off anything that stops this?

I notice that too.. But I think is just because the first day you install any ROM you haven't all the apps installed. The days after maybe you begin install new apps that start drain softly your battery..
- "let it settle" is total bs. never did any difference for me.
- having many apps doesnt mean less battery life.
greenify some fishy apps which are optimized badly or consume battery in standby.
soon people come up with "give ur phone fresh air" after installing.
srsly...
Its because when you install apps such as whatsapp or Facebook, they automatically startl in the background causing you cpu to work a little more which results in a slightly higher power draw. When you first install the apps on a brand new phone, it won't make that much of a difference but developers constantly update it which could increase CPU background usage without you even knowing.

yeah over time youre right, but I havent notices updates the next day. So I am not sure regarding the app updates.
In regard of them starting in background, they also do that on first charge, in fact they do a full sync as well.
Of course I wont be uninstalling and reinstalling to get that first day batterylife, but if its the apps, then they are really inefficient.

Just a couple random guys who helped convince you that you had a valid theory but in general the thread hasn't had any knowledgeable person participate probably cause it's pure placebo. You just had a random idea. I've personally never experienced it through numerous phones I've had and battery life is generally greater for me when I'm at home on WiFi or when I have good network so its a combination of factors.
I don't mean to offend you but answers aren't as easy to find as making a theory and finding people who agree. That's just confirmation bias and you're not getting good answers until the theory has really been evaluated in a number of scenarios and critiqued. To make matters worse you disproved it already while on Omnirom

not really disproved it. I noticed it on all android phones plus all roms.
Now I found a rom where deepsleep is legendary. I havent confirmed full charge cycle, sot and actual battery appart from deep sleep. It doesnt disprove my theory.
Fact others experience it makes it a fact for those experiencing it.
Just because you dont experience it doesnt make our experience less valid then your experience, respectively the reverse is also true.
This thread is about demythifying the experiences that are like mine.
So far no theory that you contributed explains our experiences, so please if you dont contribute towards solving, then dont say anything more.

Though I don't like greenify and prefer not to use ****ty apps like facebook at all,
which would explain why my battery life did not change a bit from kitkat to lollipop to marshmallow.
I never had issues with deep sleep or battery drain which was caused by apps.
Only time the drain increased (for everyone!) was when Google decided to **** us for months with their Play Services 7.5 Update.
They fixed it with 8.xx which was on the same level as 7.3.

I had it without those versions google play as well. I even tested it without apps, at least on one device other then this one.
I did notice apps contribute a lot to battery usage and also idle drain. However I notice it on all apps. Just as on all roms. Except Omnirom as I stated it. On stock cyanogen and cyanogenmod its the worst. As well on stock roms of all the devices I have owned

Help

I have experienced nothing but terrible battery life on note 5 sprint,
it is rooted greenify installed also custom kernel is installed skyhigh tw 4
I am also always on UMTS which gives me 3g since is unlocked and used in Europe (which should be more power efficient than lte)
Baterry is nothing but awful gives me almost same time like my nexus 5 somewhat 8h with moderate use not gaming editing photos or video recording
also sync is off nfc off location off auto brightness
if anyone can instruct me or help me with this issue please do
thanks

Have you tried installing BetterBatteryStats to check on any apps that may be hogging your battery?
I run the SkyHigh kernel and after some tweaks have been pretty happy with battery life.

If it is doing the same on another kernel, then it must be something going on with an app that is hogging battery or poor signal quality.
