[Q] I have some questions, can you guys help me? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
Now that is possible to root our beloved Xperia Z3 with locked BL I have some questions before start messing with mine here.
If I root with @zxz0O0´s method I can no longer use OTA to get Lollipop right?
But, that´s ok because I can always get back here a couple days after Lollipop gets released and get if from XDA right?
And that way I can get it also rooted?
I thank you for your time and have a great day :victory:

Yes for both questions

Thanks man!
Already rooted my Z3 and I'm just waiting for Lollipop here

Me too
Lol

You can still get ota if you are rooted. You can also use pccompanion. But it will probably lose the root.
The only issue with ota is with an unlocked bootloader, and then it is only advisable not to do an ota update. Also with an unlocked boot you cannot use pccompanion

Un-root & lock Galaxy Nexus?

Earlier I unlocked and rooted my Sprint Galaxy Nexus using GNextoolKit 7.9. I did not flash a different ROM. I have Android 4.0.4 L700.FG01.
Since the news is that Sprint is pushing JB out starting today, I would like to bring my phone back to stock and allow the OTA update.
I probably will not unlock again until a K version appears.
Is there a step-through to restore to stock using GNexToolKit 7.9? I am afraid I need pretty detailed guidance.
As far as I know you don't need to re-lock your Nexus to receive OTA updates, and I don't know if you need to unroot, but you might lose root after update anyway

Agreed... some roms include stopping ota updates so it's not the unlocked bootloader that stops updates. You should get the update but you may lose root afterwords.

Question regarding unlocking with the new firmware

I'm about to unlock and put Cleanrom on this bad boy. I haven't rooted my infinity yet and have just installed the latest firmware update. Has anyone had any issues with unlocking or rooting after they installed the latest firmware? I don't want to soft brick it and wait for a work around if possible. Thanks

First, you are not going to brick your device trying to unlock or root. It's pretty safe! Second, I heard a few reports that you are not able to unlock at this time due to some issue with Asus server, but you could try, not going to hurt, if it failed, keep trying until you get it.

[Q] Just got my N5!

just got the phone, upgraded from a moto G
Updated it to 5.01
Now my question is, what are the necessities i need to do with the phone now, e.g. unlocked bootloader and then rooting..etc?
Or should i wait for 5.1 to touch anything
Lmk, i've been out of the rooting scene for a while now.

You can do what ever you want to do my friend It is very easy to root and unlock the N5 and when 5.1 comes and you want to try it out, you can always flash the factory image.

First thing I'd do is unlock the bootloader. That wipes your device and might as well as get that out of the way before you load a bunch of stuff on it.

[Q] Rooting & Getting Lollipop update

Hi!
Gladly we got root for our awesome Z3.
My question is:
when rooting the device, will I be able to get OTA updates? Will I even be able to get the Lollipop update then? (I know I can flash a tft everytime).
And when so, will root remain or will I have to wait until somewhone finds an exploit to root the update or lollipop again?
thanks & have a nice day everyone
Even if possible, I'm pretty sure that you would lose root.
The best way to update a rooted device is by using PRFCreator tool in order to create a pre-rooted firmware. You don't even need to unlock your bootloader since it requires only a recovery to flash that package.
Rooting will not stop receiving OTA updates. But notice that unlocking the bootloader will do it.

Is downgrade possible?

Hi guys, just a couple noob questions:
I'm planning to update to Marshmallow but, if I don't like it can I go back to Lollipop?
This is because maybe I'll have bugs like most people here and also because I want to root it(when they find an exploit) and that can only be done while in Lollipop am I right?
Thank you for your help.
Yes you can go back to lollipop if you want by flashing lollipop firmware with flashtool.
There is root for MM.
Is there root?
But I have to unlock the bootloader right? I'll just wait until there's a way to root without doing that.
No that's not right if an exploit is found on marshmallow then there would not be need to go to lollipop unless the exploit was found on lollipop. Also marshmallow has far less bugs than lollipop. But as @gm007 said there is unlocked bootloader root and you can downgrade by flashing firmware with flashtool

In case if you didn't know, if you're waiting for root without unlock because of the loss of functions e.g x-reality etc., check this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/sony-credentials-restore-unlocking-t3296383
(Sony credentials restore after unlocking the bootloader), It simulates the sony credentials to get the sony functions back.
If you are waiting for different reason, just ignore my post.

Thank you for your help guys, I'll update to Marshmallow and just keep waiting, I'm familiar with waiting since the PSP and PS3 era.
