A few weeks ago I broke my rooted Nexus 5, so I got another. It has KitKat installed and when I tried to root it the best I could get is to unlock the bootloader. I finally got fed up and last night I allowed the Lollipop OTA to download onto my phone. The problem is it's nowhere to be found. After finishing the process the phone's home screen looked the same so I went to "about the phone" and the software still shows 4.4.4. What the hell happened? The annoying OTA notification is gone. Why isn't lollipop there? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Why don't you just flash the 5.0.1 factory image with fastboot and be done with it.

Help with Lollipop
The phone isn't rooted. Just the bootloader is unlocked.
You don't need to be rooted to do as @jd1639 suggests, using the link he supplied. ?

Yes, and you need an unlocked bootloader to flash factory images. Root access only has relevance within Android itself and is completely irrelevant in fastboot/recovery.

I've been waiting for the ota lollipop update for my nexus 5 for a while now and it still hasn't arrived. My brother and i both got the same phone under the same carrier and he has the update but i don't. I have installed the developer preview of the os, could that be preventing the update from showing up? Will i have to update manually?
Its a rollout. Not "okay lets give every single person the OTA right now at this exact second".
Just flash the factory images except userdata.img and don't bother waiting.
Who pushes the OTA, google or carrier? I just received my Nexus 5 from Google play. Out of the box it updated to 4.4.4 but now I'm waiting for 5.0. Unfortunately, I don't have a sim card yet, it is on order from Sprint. Would the OTA still arrive without a sim card in it? I am leaving it connected to wifi just in case.

Google pushes it. Just not to everyone at the same time.

With a Nexus device, OTAs are pushed directly from Google. Carriers are irrelevant since every Nexus device is the exact same, hardware and software. Maybe with the exception of the Nexus 6, downloaded only if you have an AT&T SIM in during installation, but its on a separate partition and they're everything is still pushed out by Google.

You have a rooted nexus dont ya?
Yes that is preventing the update from showing up on your phone...
If you manually installed a custom firmware like the developer preview... You need to manually install further updates to your phone in order to run the desired software. If your phone was stock and ran on automatic updates from Google, then your phone would automatically ask for an update (5.0.x) and you wouldn't be waiting around

Software state has nothing to do with whether the OTA will show up. It can show up even on a custom ROM. You just won't be able to flash it properly.
Youre right..but OTA indicator can be disabled by the developer..anyways the interesting thing is that the OP has lollipop Dev preview on his phone..yet he's waiting for an update..for 5.0? He's got lollipop already. He is waiting for nothing to pop up on his phone

If he's waiting for official release OTA on the developer preview, its never going to happen since its pointless to provide an OTA for those in a developer preview since it is assumed they know how to flash properly in the first place.
If he's on KK, he just has to wait.
If he's on Lollipop 5.0 and wants the OTA to 5.0.1, then again he has to wait.
If the phone is rooted with an unlocked bootloader, but still running stock will the OTA arrive? I have not installed anything custom. No rom, kernal, or anything else.
I'm in the same boat
I actually got my Nexus 5 just two weeks ago. I had a Nexus 5 with Lollipop before and I had a cracked screen so I got a replacement, but with this new one it's still on Kitkat. I've been waiting for Lollipop since I got it and I'm not quite sure what to do. What did the OP do? Have you found a solution?
The OTA`s are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217 and the full images are here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images. These kind of threads are so depressing to read :silly:

I got my nexus 5 two weeks ago. Everything is stock, unrooted and on 4.4.4. It's still waiting for the OTA. My nexus 4 received the OTA for 5.0 and 5.0.1 early dec. immediately after unboxing, it prompted update to 4.4.3 then immediately followed by 4.4.4 which was instant but no 5.0 OTA notification yet.
Hello Folks
This morning I noticed, Tmobile pushed a 60mb update to my phone. I am rooted and unlocked but not on a custom rom.
Please advice what I need to do.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Is there any issuse with the update
I have not updated. As I mentioned I am rooted and unlocked. Not sure what to do hence posted my question in the forum.
I do not want to lock the bootloader. Just curious to see what others who might have got this update are doing about it.

1. You don't have to worry about lock bootloader
2. Which Software version are you running? v10e, v10i or v10j?
3. If you update there is a way to downgrade cuz we have previews KDZ's
I am running version 10i,
I am guessing tmobile wants to upgrade me to v10j. Is there a flash able version for 10j that I can use?
Thanks

Ok, you can go here and update to the latest version v10j using @GameTheory. V10j Full update/pre-rooted/untouch TWRP.

dummy you can't update that way you must remove all traces of root which the app can't do use the KDZ
If you are rooted and it says system update DO NOT INSTALL IT... it will brick your phone

Okay, so I recently bought a used Moto G LTE, seller said it would be on Lollipop 5.1. When I received it, it had been rolled back to 4.4.4. Hence the screen ripple at every boot up (which persists until the phone is locked and then unlocked) that almost gave me a heart attack the first time. A little googling later I learn this happens because while you can downgrade android the upgraded version's bootloader remains. So last night I finally got around to rooting since I just can't go from a rooted phone to living with a non rooted one, feels like my phone has a noose around it. Anyway I wanted to know if it's safe to flash CM on my phone now or should I reupgrade to 5.1 first? And if I should is there a way to get it to update OTA again? If not any suggestions where to find the firmware? I just want to feel free to flash roms without bricking my phone. Here is a screenshot of my About Phone, in case someone needs it to help, imgur.com /v8iLOU7

Hi.
In my xt1040, i can flash CM 12 lollipop or a stock rom based from kitkat 4.4.4 without problems (I have a updated bootloader), to get OTA updates again, its necessary flash the stock rom (KK or LP), without root, PURE stock (with all "bloatware").
Now im using a optimized rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816
No bugs, amazing battery life, and a pure stock, no "bloatware", great ram management.
Sorry for bad english.

You'll have to wipe the system anyway, updating it will be a waste of time...
Hi Everyone,
im sorry if this is in the wrong section. I wasn't able to find the right section to ask for help about getting this update done..
Well here is my story:
Tried to update from 7.1.1 (software Nr: 1.27.401.11) to 8.0 and got an undescribed error symbol. No reason why it stopped or something.
I contacted HTC and after 2 Weeks waiting they respond with "send me your IMEI"
After another 2 weeks they told me to set it back to producer settings and try again.
I did it and nothing changes. Im exhausted I just want to get this update or at least stop those stupid reminders of a new update...
Google can't find good results.
My HTC U11 is a Dual-SIM version if this is important to know. Oh and its unbranded.
hope you guys have some advise.
Thank you in advance!
I had the same issue. I have unlocked bootloader and twrp recovery with magisk. After returning to stock recovery and boot, uninstalling magisk still had 24% issue. I installed stock system with ruu. After that I updated easly to oreo. All data will be lost if you want this method.
Hi thanks for replying. Does this root the System? I have no clue and dont want to lose guarantee.
If you have stock system with lock bootloader then I don't know why you can't install oreo. I unlocked bootloader so my guarantee is void anyway. I just told you what I did in my case. I don't know if you can install ruu with lock bootloader. Maybe someone smarter can tell you something about guarantee.
You can stop the update notification by pressing long on the updation notification then press advance settings or something like that (I have a German Android OS) , then click on the updater icon and then you should be at app settings of the updater, just force close the app. After that you should never see the update notification until you restart your device
same problem
hello. I have same problem. Did you solve?
I am trying to root and unlock bootloader of my S5 (G900V + EMMC 15). I have followed this post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71202995&postcount=3
but i cant get past the first step. I am on stock MM firmware. After flashing first file via odin the phone reboots but shows no display but black screen. I thought maybe its because of my MM firmware version so i tried to downgrade and flashed 5.1 firmware but...get this... the thing got stuck at verizon logo.
Now i am just frustrated if i am ever going to be able to root this thing and unlock BL
Any help for me or someone else has faced same situation before...
