Maybe I'm missing something but is lollipop ambient display useless?
When I get a notification the screen lights up in black and white as it should and pulses about 4 times over a few minutes then nothing. I can move it, place it in and out my pocket, but the screen won't relight without pressing the power button.
Am I doing something wrong or is this normal on our moto g's ? I thought it was meant to use the phones sensors to light the screen?
Yes its normal. Ambient Display needs a gyroscope to work properly, and the Moto G doesn't have one.
its normall
Looks like it's back to acdisplay then!

has anyone elses keyboard kind of flickered after it turns on?
i have it set to use light sensor
and i installed g light for screen backlight
but even with it turned off the keyboard flickers and it just started yesterday ive had it for almost 2 months just hoping its not dying or something
nevermind. this time wen i had it off it fixed it
but did other people have issues with g light causing this?
how about do people have issues when the phone goes into standby of the front buttons staying lit or the keyboard?
that has always happened to me well before the software
I haven't had the keyboard flicker or light stay on, but my front Dpad lights did stay on occasionally until I hard reset.
At first I thought this was impossible, I am using "Light Flow" and always as soon as I unlocked the screen, the led turned off.
But now, I flashed a kernel with touch controls, and I notice that when I wake up the screen with a double tap or a swipe, and I'm on the PIN/etc locker screen, the led is still ON! In fact, it can stay on until I unlock the phone..
If hardware can handle screen and led on at the same time without a problem, there's any way to keep it ALWAYS on without caring if you wake up the phone with the button or unlock it?
Thanks!
Hello! yesterday I've converted my Moto G to Google Play Edition so I could have Lollipop in it. When I went to sleep, I turned it on and connected it to the wall charger, as usuall. The difference is the screen never goes off! It shows a battery animation and then it goes completely dark, but still on! If I press the power button, it shows the battery again and then goes dark again, still with screen on. If I long press the power button, the phone just powers on. Double tap on it, nothing happens. I've googled this and many say it's a daydream problem, some "stay awake" option, but NONE of these work. Because of the "screen being on" thing I got to the conclusion the system somehow things my Moto G has an AMOLED display.... but it shouldn't, given that both GPE and Motorola versions of the phone rock a LCD display.
Any help??
have the same symptoms. When i turn off the phone - plug it to the charger - Screen lights up - shows the charging animation - animation disappears - black screen but the background light stays on.

Good morning, everyone.
I just got my Pixel 2.
Pixel 2 goes into standby mode with Always On Display enabled.
When I double tap or press the lock/unlock button, I have a vibration but the Pixel 2 screen remains black.
Do you know why it does that?
Thank you
Is ur Phone on or off? Maybe need charge?
It is on, but not during charging
Am i the only one whose screen, when it's off, doesn't turn back on properly? It registers both the fingerprint and the power "button" with haptic feedback, and the screen flickers quickly, but doesn't stay on until trying it finally works randomly, or if i use the squeeze gesture to open the camera immediately after pressing the power button. Locked and stocked too.
What is os version are you running?
Does this happen indoors or out?
I used to have an issue where auto brightness would immediately adjust to 0. The screen itself was on but the backlight was essentially turned of.
Only noticed it outside and auto-brightness was on (didn't even think that might be related to the issue! good call. If it happens again, I'll turn that off and see if the issue persists). Running 8.0.0.0 w/ 1.30.617.2 in USA
I have similar experience with my unlocked U12+ and may be Smart screen affected somehow screen back light. I've tried different combinations of settings (automatic Brightness on/off), Smart screen on/off and I noticed lack off problem in dark room. Even though some very strange reactions off haptic buttons (volume down by itself) makes me think about some general functionality problems of this device.
Has anyone noticed whether pressure on a particular point on the display affects the backlight?
When I squeeze moderately strong with two fingers in the area of the padlock (that is seen in a locked screen), it's the same as pressing the power button.
I've been using HTC flags for a long time, but for the first time I've come across such a touch-sensitive device. Every touch wakes him up, even in my pocket, which uses a battery.
I am terrified that there is no separate adjustment of the power and response style of touch-sensitive locations (haptic buttons, squeeze sensor)
