Hi - When I use the web app to send SMS, every message goes out 2X. It shows up twice both in the web view of SMS and on the phone.
I don't think this used to happen, but can't remember if it's something I've seen before on my current ROM.
Is this a known issue? Has anyone else encountered it?

Same thing happening to me. Haven't figured it out yet. I wonder if it's a 3rd party messenger thing. I'm using GO SMS on my phone.
Note 3 SlimKat 4.4.4
did you guys ever figure it out? This is still happening to me to this day, whether I use browser based Airdroid or the actual program on windows 8
I have a galaxy s4, custom google edition ROM, airdroid is up to date.
Are you guys using 3rd party SMS apps?
I am having the same issue. The picture below includes screenshots from both the AirDroid web app (left) and my phone's messaging app (right).

I've installed ChompSMS, but when I go into Settings - Wireless & Networks - Default SMS app - only Hangouts is listed. I've tried rebooting the phone, but still nothing. Does ChompSMS need to be updated so it'll show up on this list? Is there another way to make it the default app?
Thanks!

I got this problem too :silly:
It needs updating with 4.4 support.

What he said lol.
There are particular parameters that an app has to have in 4.4 for Hangouts to recognise it as an SMS app.
What the others said.
Long-winded answer:
Basically, before 4.4, there was no such thing as an "SMS app" on Android. Apps like ChompSMS didn't actually directly receive and process SMSes. They listened for SMS received events and intercepted the SMS message as it went into the default SMS app. This was an incredibly hacky method, would cause weird issues (like you'd get notifications from two SMS apps), and wasn't at all supported officially by Google.
Now in 4.4, they added the ability for apps to act as proper replacements for SMS. But they must stop using the old APIs/intents and use the new 4.4 APIs to do this. If/when the app developer does this, then you'll see it as an option.
I have the same issue you too and have been unable to find any SMS 'app' that can be set as the default.... Anyone have any success?
I've tried - Chomp, Now and Textra and none are 'selectable'!
Thanks.

Tried those and 8sms. No joy ;(
Handcent works
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
This is what you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512414&page=3
Works flawlessly.
I emailed the developer last week and got a reply to say a fixed version would be out this week. It's not out at the time of writing this post, but on the Google Play website someone gave it a 1 star review for not working on the Nexus 5 and one of the devs replied to say "It's fixed. Please email us with the subject line NOT FAQ." Maybe they are sending people an APK if they email them?

8sms absolutely does work, make sure you have the most updated version from the Play Store and then go to Settings>More... (under Wireless & Networks), then tap Default SMS app and change to 'Messaging', which is 8sms. Could not recommend this app higher.
I just got a reply from the developer. They are supposedly releasing a version that's compatible with the Nexus 5/Android 4.4 today. They also linked me to a beta version that works, although I haven't tested it: -

Thanks for the link! Working great on my Nexus 5 now. This is version 5.89, the version on the Play Store was released Nov 12 and is v5.88.
Chomp user here too, though when I installed the beta it didn't seem to have notifications turned on by default, so I missed a few texts. Worth checking if you install it.
Version 5.89 has been released to the Play Store, has KitKat compatibility.
I was having some trouble with Skype so I did some test today.
Logged in with:
- account A on my macbook, desktop client version 6.19 (452)
- account B on my nexus 5, mobile client version 5.0.0.51733
> Everything works fine, calls and messages.
I sign out from the Nexus 5 (the "Sign in automatically" option is NOT checked), I still see account B online on the macbook. I try to call it, it does not work of course, I sign in again on the Nexus 5 and I see the missed call.
I suspect some issues with Skype mobile (both Android an iOS) with Sign out and maybe the fact that on mobile operating system there is some sort of "auto-hibernation".
That would explain why sometimes I call people who seem to be online and the call fail. No issues with the desktop client, only people with a smartphone or a tablet.
The only workaround I found in the meantime is to set my status to Invisible on the Nexus 5.
I would happily uninstall this application, but it's hard to migrate the whole family...
Do you experience the same issue? Any idea how to solve this?
Hello. You can use these two commands to check what devices you are currently logged in on Skype:
/showplaces - shows you what devices are currently "online" on your account
/remotelogout - logs you out from all devices except the one you post this command from
Just type them in any chatbox inside skype. Don't worry, they are visible just to you.
I am looking for a way to be able to display messages that come to WhatsApp on my phone onto my Nexus 7 tablet.
Seeing as you cannot have one number registered to more than one device with WhatsApp, the only way this seems possible is to use "WhatsApp Web".
I tried out "WhatsApp Web" on my Nexus 7 Tablet using Chrome Browser and as long as you request desktop site, it seems to work brilliantly.
But here is the problem: the browser must be open at all times to be able to get notifications. So is there any way or app that allows a permanent chrome tab as a running process?
Suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
I have read this is expected and also see MMS fails to work with a lot of 3rd party sms apps. Text works fine but no MMS or emoji's via gBoard. Facebook messenger as sms client also fails to send MMS messages.
Textra however works but really want to use native Google messaging app. Does anyone know why this is? Is this similar tonwhyboir phones don't support Chromecast?

Check apn
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I have the same issue. Apn is fine.
I think Xiaomi phones just don't like Google messages.
Oh well, I'll just have to buy something else.

Correct I read that its a known issue. I can't understand why though and its pretty annoying. I'm willing to use textra though to keep the phone since its so beautiful and fast. Camera is better than my wifes iPhone X too.
Customer rom (once available) shoudl take care of it though i think...?
Same issue. I'm using Pulse instead:

If you want to root your phone there is a Magisk module that installs Google Framework which allows non-Google phones to use Google Dialer and Google Messages. The Google versions of those apps usually won't work on non-Google phones unless it is an Android One device.
Google messages has worked on every other device for me. Good news though, I installed the global miui 10 beta and android messages (incl MMS) works perfectly without any tinkering. So all of this will be a thing of the past...

I didn't know that. The Google Dialer/Contact App doesn't work on most non-Google phones.
Yeah dialer still doesn't work for me (just trying latest from apkmirror, not getting in to hacked versions). But messages is fine.

Please report it to Google. Looks like G can revoke certification for this ****

I had the exact same issue. MMS didn't work for me on 9.5.19 Upgraded to 8.26 MIUI 10 beta and mms works perfectly.
I can receive and send MMS now on MIUI 10. However, sending GIF works BUT receiving them just gives me a jpg of the first frame of the GIF. Has anyone fixed this? Textra does not work. Messenger does not work. The stock messaging app doesn't even allow them to be inserted.
It seems the newest update released today for Miui9 has fixed Google Messages.
Maybe they backported the fix from Miui10?

Thanks for the info, I'll have to test once I get home(just bought the Mi Mix 2s, haven't fully transitioned yet).
*Edit, no OTA yet for U.S. in SoCal. Downloading the OTA manually from MIUI forums: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3410139&page=1#pid28876221
*Edit 2, just finished manual update to 9.6.4. Tested MMS/GIF sending via T-Mobile on Mi Mix S2 on Android Messages and it works flawlessly. However Verizon is still busted, can't access APN settings. Verizon SIM was taken from my Pixel XL.
what about group text/mms? when people response, it only go to me? other than that everything is good. Where do I get the global rom MIUI 10 beta?
Thanks
Not working in Miui 10 Stable Global
Hi guys,
I have had an MMS issue with Lineage ROMs and solved it by merging APNs, if you have on dedicated fro the web, and the other one for the MMS.
Simply copy / paste the data related to MMS from the dedicated MMS APN to the web APN, and add set type to "default, internet, mms".
It has worked immediately.
Hope it helps !
I've tried to Google this a few different ways but I can't find an Answer. All of the sudden when I click facebook links or notifications I'm presented with the 2 Facebook options. They both have the same icon and I can't seem to find any installed apps that would mimic facebook and no second facebook in the app drawer. Is this a bug or is this something trying to trick me into opening a fake app? Is there any way to figure out what app this is without resetting the phone?
This is a tmobile note 20 5g running android 11 if that makes a difference.
Additional info. My note 9 that I use as a backup is doing the same thing and I haven't installed anything on it or used it for anything other then phone calls I'm months.
