Really disappointed weak glass,speaker and cheating in benchmark
i want to upgrade from note 1 to note 3
after reading alot of reviews i found some issues
1- The video of an "androidauthority" that show drop test of Note 3 and its glass was broken , despite my note 1 fall from me many times and nothing was happen (gorilla glass 1) and till now non of any sites ( Samsung - Gsmarena - Phonearena .........) talked about screen protection and this was scary to me

2-some reviews talked about the speaker of note 3 and all of them talked about its bad quality but it is loud enough . yesterday i read review http://www.anandtech.com/show/7376/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/7
show that the loudness of speaker is only 71.92 db lower than note 2 and my note 1 :crying:
3-today i choked when reading the cheating in benchmark of note 3 at all phone sites
4-most of reviews done 4g version and i was planning to buy the 3g version

LOL I hate iPhone series and i think they aren't rivals with note3 at all , but there are rivals still in same line and don't forget i ve note 1 from 2 years and it is still my little baby
Don't believe on every bullS**t that comes in front of you. If you liked note 1, you will love note 3 too. It is far better than even note 2 and people are loving it so note 1 doesn't even come closer. There is not even a single phone which is 100% perfect.

I have upgraded from a Note 2 with custom rom (omega) and audio mods (Neak) to Note 3 Simfree quad core version.
My note 3 has all my apps inc Apex Pro Launcher.
1) The audio quality on the note 3 is defiantly better than my note 2, the call quality is amazingly clear, the music sounds better.
yes the speaker is not that loud compared to my modified note 2 but that some that a custom mod when released can fix.
2) i have not read the review but i have just done a AnTUTU Benchmark and my score is 35613
AnTUTU score 35613 (custom test with all options selected)
Quadrant Standard with score of 22279
Geekbench 2 Score 4095
The screen is amazing compared to my note two and the pictures quality is sharp, I will compare this with my sisters Samsung S4 when i get chance.
Edit: I did not like the S-Pen on the note 2 much on on Note 3 it feels much more natural when writing with the pen and the air view is brilliant when using S-Pen makes this much easier.

about the speaker i hope that will be better but about the review of benchmark you should read it as your test on benchmark is faked by samsung
Reviews are the opinion of the reviewer only try get one of your own and I guarantee you this device is definetly better than your note 1

Hi,
How is it faked? when i using 3rd benchmark tools to run some tests based on the CPU/RAM/GPU etc.. from the application itself, unless the application is picking up that is note 3 and then faking the result?
It does feel more responsive and faster than my note 2, I want to root it with custom rom and take out this samsung bloatware etc.
PS: I have just tested MX Player with DTS codec pack - I can playback full bluray with DTS-HD MA audio sample file m2ts and also 10bit MKV files.

Why do you give much thought to drop tests? There is no scientific procedure with which these tests are carried out; basically, they are all luck based. But since it seems you put weight to them, maybe these two tests will put your mind more at ease.

- As for the benchmark "cheating", basically what has been confirmed is that the phone preps all the four cores to 2.3GHz before the benchmarks begins (like revving the engine of a car before racing). it's worth noting that the Note3 still measures the highest scores even with this "booster" disabled. This is not the first time that manufacturers were caught trying to do this and it won't be the last.
- Why are you planning to buy the 3g version? The only reason you should get the 3g version is if you don't have another choice (i.e: they don't sell the 4g model in your country)
- As for the speakers, I honestly can't tell you as admittedly I'm not the best judge when it comes to audio. I sold my Note2 so I can't compare. What I can say is that I leave the volume at 13/15 when watching my videos and I have no problem hearing it in a quiet environment.

and about 3g version in our country data through 4g is very expensive and not practical for us and also the 4k video need more storage + highend tv ,so i preferred the octa core ver as i heard it use less power consumption by choosing the lowest core for idle and for small process and maybe after update from Samsung it can use the 8 core simultaneously and make higher performance than snapdragon after that update.That only what i think

When people say "faked" what they really mean is that the CPU and GPU are set to a speed which is not otherwise available for general use. So (making up numbers) in normal use the GPU can only go 450mhz, if it detects that a benchmark app is running, it'll ramp it immediately up to 475mhz and keep it there so there's no ramping up and down and the speed is higher.
So it's a bit dirty, but it's not like they're dropping frames and getting a "higher FPS" or something.

Actually that's not what's happening here (though it was with the S4). Samsung is apparently setting everything to run at 100% during popular benchmark programs.
1. The benchmark programs really should be doing this anyway which concerns me
2. Even without this preset, the N3 still won pretty much all benchmark tests. So not a big deal in the end, making this unnecessary from Samsung.
BMW does any naked phone screen survive a direct drop on its face onto concrete? Don't think I've ever seen that.

Samsung did the same thing with the GS4, it's not just benchmark software it's any app that is native fullscreen that gets a CPU boost for max performance. Call that cheating if you want, the phone still created the results.

This is not cheating, the processor is not running outside of its designed limits. All it did was make sure it was running a full power for the whole test... The clock speeds were still 2.3 ghz,
as for the speaker, that's subjective and the glass is gorilla glass 3, it's the strongest on the market... But if you think it won't break if you smash your phone on concrete, you're kidding yourself

Most people don’t care about benchmarks, and I’m still going to buy the phone and not lose any sleep over this.

ArsTechnica also failed to "discover" that the very LG G2 that they compare in the very same article has the same CPU optimizations, only that they by luck it didn't apply to GeekBench 3.
Samsung does it, HTC does it, LG does it.
To the op about the drop test. I don't care what phone you have it will always break out shatter if you drop it on its face. There is a thing called a case. If you don't use it you deserve to have your screen smashed.
Don't get it. Stay with your note 1 and no complaining. Enough said.

unfortunately for me a few days ago my note 2 fell face first on concrete and naturally it cracked.
all smartphones will get this terrible fate if dropped face first on solid concrete unless the flexible screens with what ever will cover it finds a solution to that problem.
samsung should invest in wearable technology that senses and "magnetizes back" whenever your phone is about to get dropped or snatched (i know far out but one can dream lol)
Way high. Anyone having issues is not making the right yes no questions about LGs location tracing service and the stupid McAfee bloatware install. I just owned pretty much everything with my scores. No need root.

Antutu is scoring over what iphone 6 should too... Over 47000 something. You have to remember unless you root and tweak this phone it is a dialed down snapdragon 810. You have to bring it back to full speed to get full speed benchmarks that would match and beat a galaxy s6. For whatever reason LG did that, it definitely does make it slower out of the box than the s6 in benchmarks. But after you de-crap your unrooted version. It runs plenty fast and not laggy.

The SD810 should be getting scores above 50,000 on Antutu and as for mopping the floors with everything the GS6 scores around 69,000. The 810 would score well over what my current benchmarks are, which is around 52,000 if there weren't heating issues.
If I let the cpu cool down to 20C I can get an antutu score of 58,000. I'm going to see if I can add a copper shim and thermal compound. It really made a big difference when I did that with my old galaxy nexus.

The problem is when you run it a second or third time you get a score that's comparable to galaxy s5 scores lol

The only thing matters is the UI lagging. Do you really meet your friends and say "Yo, dude, my phone took 58k points in Antutu?" No, you say "dude, it's fast" or not fast.
It's G Flex 2 - it's alredy curve, stylish and sexy. It points attention to itself. So is there a huge difference between 58k or 48k points in Antutu? Does this really matter, when you like your phone?
If you really need that points - go and buy that awkward, terribly looking SGS6.
I'm on this board because I like to tweak with my phone. I enjoy pushing hardware and seeing what its capable of. I didn't really buy my LG Flex 2 to show off but I'm pretty sure most of us are here because we already like our phones.

I love my phone... Until it gets hot, starts going unbareably slow and I have to sit there holding the power button for 30 seconds for the phone to reboot because rebooting normally would take about 5 to 10 minutes due to throttling. The phone is gorgeous but runs far from it. "We" are looking for ways to push it so it doesn't have these problem. Going with the mentality that "oh it's qualcomms best so it's amazing" mentality is ignorant. No offense but it is :/... Until issue are fixed with it the 808 and 805 run better because of speed and reliability (less lag) I am also a member of XDA to push my device and make it better. So no I'm not happy with this half baked chip until we come up with a way to fully bring out it's potential and share it with the community.
That is really odd because somehow I'm not experiencing lag. No matter how hard I push my phone it never seems to lag. I have the AT&T version of this phone. Could it be possible that somehow the AT&T version is different? From what I've been reading I haven't heard any one with the AT&T version complain about lag. Even when I try to push my phone hard I never see it go past 37C. If I run benchmarks for a long time like Antutu four times in a row the highest I've seen is 47C and even then my phone doesn't lag at all. So I'm wondering what's different on the phones with users that experiencing that much lag.
They may have throttled down the A57s to 1.5ghz. They've been doing that with them to try to fix the heat issues
In my AT&T model my A57 cores run at 2ghz but at around 40c it disables two cores and drops them to 1.55ghz.

Of course it can. Most people talk about they can factory reset their device and it runs smooth as butter. Sounds like the phone starts to chug when it is loaded down with user data and apps with background processes.
I guess it can depending on how much stuff is running in the background. I know on my Galaxy S4 with 2GB of ram it runs smooth with cm11 android 5.1 no matter how many things are open. Although it also doesn't have the bloatware that comes with an OEM device.

I have EU version and I have no lag as well with v10e. Phone runs around 40C when gaming or browsing. There is some delay when multitasking, but no significant lag.

I am wondering if anyone else is having some major game performance issues. I specifically play Order and Chaos 2 on the phone and the game has some ridiculous lag. Want to know if this is caused by this phone or if its another problem. I have tried Samsung Game Tuner, which does nothing btw and have looked around and have no resolution. Any help is appreciated

I know it does, its ridiculous how bad the lag is on this phone. I don't know if its the phone, the game, or what! Its starting to drive me nuts...
I'm using Exynos version and I've never had any bug in game. Actually I never had any bug at all, it's really impressive
I use to play games like Real Racing 3, Walking War Robots, Warhammer 40000 : Freeblade, and not only there isn't any bug, but the phone never get warm.
Abysmal performance drops in summoners war after a few minutes. The phone stays cool though.
Exynos Version. Even my LG G4 was faster after 15 min of playing.
Samsung should get rid of those game tools because noone need them and it only causes problems...

I'm thinking it's the 2k resolution. Download Samsung's game tuner from the play store, make a manual mode and limit games to 50% resolution (1080p) and keep fps to 60.
Worst performance i ever seen right after G4, that due to stupid things they did in 6.0.1 it affect all devices, i had Note 5 and it had same issue with 6.0.1 but with 5.1.1 games worked perfect.
Now not all games effected, but Angry birds 2 on higher level 100+ and tekken 6 works POOR on S7, while it worked PERFECT on Note 5 with 5.1.1, but on 6.0.1 on both devices gaming performance left in the sink.

Wow really? I have played +3h in the same session and never had a problems with anything, also, battery just droped like 30%, I'm so f*cking impressed with performance, but SW is not a high-demand game anyways
Gaming performance sucks on Exynos too. My Mate 8 is way smoother when gaming.
ye S7 has the worst gaming performance in years, even worse then G4, if u rooted u can at least put performance governor and that should help, at cost of battery.
They did something in 6.0.1 that cause it, since mine Note 5 was light years faster than S7 in gaming on 5.1.1, but with 6.0.1 it lags so hard... i hope sammy will fix it but i know they won't.

As someone that games a lot, that annoys me beyond relief, it was the reason i sold my G4 and got Note 5 year ago, now it seems i need to do it again, once there is a real competitor to s7e.
I have the exynos version and while I'm playing nfs no limits it's like playing a game in a slow motion. The fps is low in a certain point, especially while it's raining. It might get higher fps inside a tunnel or an area that doesn't require too much high quality graphics

Guys, that's not normal at all. I own the exynos version and my gaming performance are awesome, 60FPS everywhere.
Maybe these games are not optimized, or maybe your phone has problems, you should do something (factory reset or warranty)

There is a problem and everyone effected, bear in mind not all games are effected but the problem is there.
I did a big more digging and found out that DVFS causes a lot of it, however while disabling it can cure this almost 100%, the phone will work very slow, same behavior i saw on mine Note 5 when disabling dvfs.
Samsung need to fix it really, G5 HTC10 Note 5 all previous phones play those games MILES above S7.

I have the same behavior here with NFS No Limits. Using the Exyno version of the S7 Edge. Is just impossible to play the game.
S7 Edge is a lot worst then my previous LG G4 to play NFS.
Guys if we stay on XDA sammy won't notice it, we need to spam the twitter with videos that prove it and be vocal, otherwise it will effect Note 6 and others phone, which is shame since GS7E is the best phone atm.

Have you tried disabling the game service? A lot of people have reported it causes lag and overly vivid colours.

I wanna buy a new phone and the specs of Mi4c have catch me compared to it's price, but then there is many review that says it have a heating issue, so now i just wanna ask you as owners of this phone, do you advise me to buy it or to look for another model, i should mention that im not a gamer just from time to time on simple games, i use most this phone for social medias and video calls at skype.

I did take the plunge and so far i love it My findings:
Beware that mi4c is China only phone originally so don't expect Global MIUI ROM officially. you can try MIUI eu ROM or sMIUI as alternative but in general this phone will stuck with Android 5.1.1 officially, only the MIUI version is upped. the base OS is still the same Lollipop. the best way to enjoy Nougat is with CM but its Marshmallow CM experience is pretty much stable all around at this time of development.
No overheating so far, but then again i flashed into CM from the start so no MIUI for me.
The Rectangular design is Sony like so i love it (subjective ofc)
Great camera and screen quality.
Battery life is on par with any 3000mah flagship so no worries. (but then again i'm using CM here)
BUT..
If you value super battery life, but not great but above average camera and screen, you can grab the Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon version) with roughly the same price. Plus the Global ROM availabilty is guaranteed for Xiaomi RN3. I personally take mi4c just because i like the design language plus the camera quality proven by GSMArena and others. So there you have it.
The fact it overheats compared to other phones is true, but only partly. Yes, it overheats, but it only does so on miui. I find, using any other custom rom based on aosp or cm, that the issue is completely gone. And when I overheats it really isn't that much of an issue in my experience.
If you ask me, you can't find a better 5"-5.2" phone under 200. If you value community support too it's basically an obligated choice as well.
The overheating isn´t gone with another Rom.
I tried every Rom and still have this problems (not as much as with miui, but still overheating), but with other Roms you could manage the throttling better. So you don´t have lags and freezes while gaming what is important, but for me it heats on 50-65+ on every Rom while play 3d games and rare throttling.
The problem is the 808 - 810 series. Every phone with this cpus overheats.
There is no overheating if you put the GPU and the BIG cores in powersave. You should get like 4-5 hours screen-on time and no performace issues. Also the battery should last 48h with normal use.

At least you have a 30k antutu device and i don´t believe that you can play 3d games well like that. Thats for sure not what the OP want.

Everyone should now about that issue before he buy it and if i know before that i can just use 60-70 % of the performance i would looking for another device maybe (i tought there is more space above the 68k written in the test results like in every phone with another rom ...).
The best result i get was with RR 5.7.1 constant 55k antutu (heating about ~55°c). With some roms my phone throttle down to 30-40k and i had enormly problems to play NFS, fps 15 after 2-3 mins. With efficient mode i stuck at 45k or less.
For sure not every phone is same, what mean if you are lucky you couldn´t have overheating problems.

thank you for your answer but i just wanna know if it heat on normal usage, like social media, taking photos and skype video calls, cause the main reason i wanna buy this phone is the screen and the camera, i casualy play games and when i do, it just simple games like domino or guessing games.
Well, in your case no. You won´t have overheating problems just for social media etc. and very simple games.
But could be that you find a new game/app wich need performance then you could have. Future ! ;D.
BTW Vector 2 looks like a simple game, Pokemon Go looks like a simple game, a map with some stops but you would have overheating probs (resp. - i have - ~55°c). Just saying ;D.

The main reason you shouldn't buy a redmi 3s is the well known bug that keeps the phone stuck on 2G in some occasions (you can read more on miui.com or here in xda).
@Danny94, that 55k antutu sounds low. And so does that cpu temperature you were talking about. I wouldn't rule out the possibility it's a defective unit, frankly. With all the roms I've used I've never gotten less than 65k and 72k with my current daily driver - TS CM13.

I had Z5 Premium before mi4c (don't ask why the downgrade) and it does overheat, causing a game like Horizon Chase to stutter after a while. None that i found with mi4c. so even if this phone CPU overheats in games, the impact isn't as pronounced compared to 810 powered phone. Yeah gaming is quite major part in smartphone but it's taken as an in-between activity so in pretty much all other activities, even 810 is still very good as i have used in Z5P and no complain generally.

You should look at Zuk Z2 (not pro) much better than mi4c
Guys i believe you to reach 69k ... on Antutu, but thats not a true value... I reach 69 k too on first time, you should try to test 5 times or more behind each other until your value doesn´t drop anymore. That was for me 55k on RR 5.7.1, with the most other Roms i was on 35k after 3-5 test.
The first test doesn´t have any sense on this cpu, because of the overheating -> throttle. Or does you play a game for only 3 minutes too ?
Yeah the Zuk Z2 looks great. I like 5" smartphones and at the moment the Zuk Z2 is the best in my opinion, the Rom should be bad, but there are for sure custom roms.

I would go for Mi4S, it worth the upgrade IMO...
As i know the Mi4c has the same hardware like the Mi4s, just small things like fingerprint sensor, sd -slot, little bit more battery, but costs a lot more.
It really depends on the relative price of Mi 4c compared to other devices.
The only thing that makes Mi 4c stand out is its camera quality. It takes amazing photos (though the focus speed is average) and high quality 4k videos (though the lack of stabilization means you need very steady hands).
Performance of Mi 4c is good but it heats too much. Stand-by power consumption is too high (even when compared with nearly identical phones like Mi 4s).
I'm not sure what prices you can get, but in China you can get Mi 5 (3GB RAM, 32GB Storage) for USD250 through the official Mi shop. The Red Mi Note 3 and Note 4 offer metal body, fingerprint sensor, larger battery and similar performance. You can think about them as well. Note that the Red Mi series have noticeably worse camera than Mi 4c.

I would try to get at least the 32gb/3gb model
Since turning it on for the first time I often notice overheating in the upper area under the cameras. It does this very often when it is empty or when I use heavy apps like Call of Duty mobile .. has anyone noticed something similar? It seems absurd to me that such a phone will overheat like this
Sorry to hear that your phone is overheating.
Except when installing the phone the first time, i did not have any problems with it heating up. I dont use have apps so can't help you with that ( most heavy app i use is prob Clash of clans haha)
Unfortunately, that is the 888. Only real solution is to decrease the settings on "heavy" games and take breaks.
I have the same issue. My sister and cousin have the phone also but neither is experiencing it. I don't play games or watch videos on the phone. I only use it for calls, messaging, and online shopping so there is no reason for it to happen. I called to get a replacement. Hopefully the new device will not have the same issue.

I don't know how anybody would expect this very compact phone to not get hot with intensive tasks. It shouldn't get hot with light usage, though. Also try using Samsung browser instead of chrome if it gets hot when browsing.
I noticed mine getting awful hot the other day while using Android Auto on my car stereo with it in my pocket in my shirt, got so hot I had to take my phone out my pocket and put it in my cup holder. I noticed it getting hot also while watching Youtube videos at the house also, it wasn't in my pocket against my body though so it wasnt really that big a deal! LOL!

This is correct. Let's just be happy Samsung didn't put the SD888+ in the phone. The SD888 already had thermal problems. Can only imagine the SD888 being hotter from being overclocked.
Its not overheating, its getting hot. Android OS will shut down and give a warning when overheating. If your not using a case you will notice a lot more than a previous phone with a case installed. Its a CPU and GPU that creates heat. Its normal to get hot during high intensive cpu/gpu use and or when charging. It also tends to get hot when setting up for 1st time and transferring data from an old device.

I think you may have missed the point trying to correct the wording. The 888 gets significantly hotter than even the previous 865+ performing the same tasks. The issue is that what used to be just a bit warm is now hot and one warm day will easily push that into overheating. The performance increase may not justify the difference, which is where a lot of people will have an issue.

Ive been using mine in 90* weather gaming, videos, etc... and have had the same warm/hot feeling I got with my s10+. I have yet to have overheating. I didnt see anyone mention the OS shutting down due to regular use and overheating but I could be mistaken. Being that I have been overclocking PC's, phones for 20 years the heat I am getting from my Flip 3 seems pretty normal.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but Android has not existed for 20 years. Anything before the G1 is irrelevant. That said, you also have to discard anything you used that wasn't Snapdragon, since Qualcomm and Mali (or others) are simply not the same thing.
Now that you are looking at a much less impressive list of past devices, you have to consider that you aren't actually overclocking and the 888 is currently capped. You also have to consider that the 888 does perform much more efficiently, so it may even seem cooler than an S10+ when doing the same basic tasks. After all, the 855 was known for getting hot and is now two generations back in terms of performance. When you notice the heat is when you run things the S10+ would struggle to handle.
The problem I was actually pointing out was comparing the 865+ and 888. The 865+ clocks higher than the 888, but the 888 runs significantly hotter. Running the same games on an 865+ and an 888 will yield higher temperature from the 888, but only marginal performance improvement. The question is what happens when you try to run the 888 at its full capabilities?

Again its hot but NOT overheating. Anyways where I messed up in replying here is I thought I was in the Fold thread and NOT Flip. LOL. The Fold with its bigger chassis probably handles the heat a lot better. My daughter has the Flip and has not mentioned that it gets hot, but I now want to play with it.
And a side note I have been doing mobile device repair since the iphone was released and have worked on every snapdragon phone pretty much ever made.

I never said it was overheating, either. I said it has a much higher potential to overheat and environmental temperature will have a greater impact on it.
I've also been repairing phones since long before the iPhone, so I apologize that those credentials don't have more weight.
In all honesty, this 888 is much tamer than some. Take a look at the ROG Phone 5. You can melt an igloo running YouTube with that.

Anyone had the LG G Flex 2 with the 810? That thing got hot just being on the homescreen.
The Flip3 is nowhere near that and a non-issue heat wise for me. Especially now that I have the strap case where I don't notice it at all.

I honestly think Samsung did some behind the scenes limitations on it. The ROG Phone 5 and Z Flip 3 are both the 888, but there is a much larger performance gap than just a few minor software optimizations.

Yes samsung limit big core and prime core even when gaming pubg , wild rift , mobile legend. I jist finish an hour game pubg and see the result of big core and prime core even when running demanding game. Samsung does not fully utilize big and prime core. Most of its task use small core. Big and prime deep sleep very deep. Gpu will not run over 500mhz
I have the same issue when using Android Auto with it. Overheats to the point that music starts stuttering and then AA just shuts off completely. T-Mobile is sending me a replacement but the lady at the store said her friend had the exact same issue. I don't game or do anything that would require the SD888 to go nuts.
i got mine to overheat after a long video call with usb power on a somewhat hot day, had to close camera and give it a sec to cool down.
honestly its not terrible, but it does heat up more than regular phones. during regular use its fine imo
