Hi,
Im pretty new to Droid phones and I have had my Droid Charge for a couple of months now. Its pretty much untouched and factory stock verison. I been reading alot of the post and some it can be confusing. My question is coming from stock verison what would be the ideal and easiest upgrade?
I see alot of news on Honeycomb,Gummycharge etc.. what would be my best bet and what are the advantages chosen one over the other thanks in advance

I would suggest waiting until tonight when GummyCharged 2.0 drops, it's gonna be the ultimate tweakable rom it'll be rooted, give you CWM and a custom voodoo kernel, plus a sweet better-than-stock rom

Not at first because it's going to be released a CWM recovery flashable zip. If you go to the Charge developer forum and Odin over the latest CWM recovery by Imnuts, you will be able to install it easily when it is released.

So basically I will need to install a previous Odin verison with CWM and when this comes out I just install the CWM as a recovery is that correct ?

Close. You don't need to install the previous version (1.9.1) but you can if you want to. You just have to Odin over the latest CWM recovery (this will root your phone). When the 2.0 zip is released then you just place it on your SD card, enter recovery by holding volume up + home + power until the SAMSUNG logo flashes twice and then choose to install zip from SD card. Make sure to do a factory reset, and wipe the cache partition and dalvik cache (under advanced) before flashing the zip in recovery. You may not understand all of that now, but when you're in recovery mode it will make sense.

You don't need to touch Altered Beast unless you want it. I'm fairly certain that using Odin to flash CWM will provide root (I haven't done it in a long while). If it does not, after flashing CWM, just install this zip from your SD card in recovery and that will provide root.

No problem chief. Feel free to post back with any question.
If you are on the stock kernel you will need to boot directly to recovery and flash the SU .zip after odin CMW, or else the recovery will be overwritten by the stock kernel.
Your best bet is to wait till GC FE 2.0 is released, then odin CWM, and boot direct to recovery and flash the 2.0 .zip. then you are done in a couple steps.
That'll work too.
so now the waiting game begins lol
Hi friends I have Nexus S i9023
I have just rooted the phone for the first time
current android version is :2.3.6
I have ROM manager and Super user installed
I downloaded the ICS build for Nexus s WIP
trying to install it from ROM manager and also from RECOVERY but it gives me a triangle exclamation mark of android ....
not working
tried several times but no result
please help meee ......
From what I was reading about it last night no one has gotten to work yet. Be patient or try sdk port until some one gets it up and running better.
Nevermind I see there is a new one.
But it also sounds like you still have the stock recovery.

Hi there! I wish to flash my stock rom and put ice cream sandwich on my I9020!
Can't wait for the original update!
How can i do? I've the stock recovery but I've the bootloader unlocked!
After the flash will i be able to put stock roms on it?
Thanks everybody!
the reasons are because you are using rom manager. I would not recommend rom manager at all. Boot into recovery and flash and you would not have an exclamation mark. How? Power off device. Hold volume up and power to boot into bootloader. Next scroll to recovery using volume buttons and press power to select. In recovery wipe everything. Next install zip from sd card and select the ics rom. After it is done reboot. Good luck!
Hit thanks if i helped!

After the flash you WOULD NOT be able to get OTA updates. However custom roms are always better
I should wait till there is a FULLY working ICS build and just try some Gingerbread ROMs.
I'd advise you to read alot of instructions from different places to get and idea of flashing as your new to it as pointed out b4 i think the problem is that ur recovery isn't present you can install it via ROM-manager by clicking the 1st option on it

Can anyone know any custom rom like S3.I like the way you swipe to the right and you call and swipe to the left to SMS.
Perhaps if you have an older device that is running gingerbread as it is, maybe it is better to use ICS over gingerbread. The triple buffering in jelly bean, although pretty, is quite CPU intensive on an older phone relative to ICS. Or GPU intensive if you decide to run your UI acceleration through the GPU.

But 4.4 is bit heavy for my dad.My dad likes something simple with a big dialer.Any recomedation for a rom?
Thanks.
Helo Kuro.
I know its been a year since you made the question about a Fast Rom (you asked for ICS).
My advice is to stick to Gingerbread Roms. I safely recommend:
- " Full DDLF2 Rom".
- Deodex the Rom
- Flash CF Root
- Remove Bloatware
- Install good Apps only
- Remove the 90% of the Advertising
ICS; Jelly Bean and Kit Kat Roms may brick your device and it requires advanced knowledge when something goes wrong.
Let me know if you want to do this.
Ill be glad to provide files and teach you howto do it properly.

i already found out how to install ics but it does not matter now because i sold the phone.
thanks anyway for replying.
hey guys, ill get straight to the point:
i decided to take out my old tf101(non-3g) after after a year or more, dont remember. it works relatively well, but im sure theres a lot that can be updated rom-wise. right now it has this:
Kernel version
2.6.39.4-JELLYBEAN-g18e8917-dirty [email protected] #89 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 22 17:40:05 CEST 2012
Build number
full_tf101-userdebug 4.1.1 MASTER eng. RaymanFX.20120821.232608 test-keys
I include this because I'm not exactly sure what version i have.. i think its the 6.0.0 from raymanfx
Anyway, from what I could from a quick glance of these forums, there's a ton of new features for this tablet! or at least one i really like, multi-window.
So can I get some suggestions from you guys on whats the best way to get my tablet up to date? I'm looking for a stable rom also. Is the best way to get to this point to return my tablet to stock and start over from there?
Any useful suggestions are welcomed. Thanks
First thing you should do is make sure you have TWRP recovery installed
Make sure if you have CWM recovery installed that you change over to TWRP before flashing the ROM or you have a good chance of a boot loop
Easiest method, install Goo Manager from here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager
Open app > Hit the top right 3 dots menu button > choose "Install Open RecoveryScript"
Follow instructions to get TWRP running, boot into TWRP to check it has worked by holding Power & Volume Down from a powered off state until you see the white text at the top of the screen
Then release all buttons and tap volume up to enter recovery
If that works fine, then download a new ROM and Gapps and copy to a Micro SD Card
This is the latest and most stable version that has Multi Window support
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392087
Copy the ROM & Gapps to Micro SD and stick it in the TF
Boot into TWRP
Press the WIPE option and wipe everything apart from External which is where your new ROM is
Go back to the main screen by hitting the home button at the top right
Press the install button
Choose External memory to find your new ROM and Gapps
Install ROM
Install Gapps
Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
Press reboot to Reboot into your new 4.3.1 Jellybean ROM with Multi Window

Because you want Multi-Window, go with the previously mentioned KatKiss 4.3.1 or, if you can wait a few days, go for 4.4.2 v023. Tim's changelog indicates the next version is going to fix it.
4.4.2 really flies, BTW!

Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) runs much better on lower powered/memory devices than previous versions. The possible downside of KatKiss 4.4.2 compared with KatKiss 4.3.1 is that it is relatively new and may have some issues with some apps (i haven't seen any though).
So I followed all the steps and updated my tablet. Installed the 4.4.2 version. It's awesome!!! I never imagined this tablet would still have so much value in it.
Thanks again guy for helping me out!
Great!
Yea the latest 4.4.2 #23 is a superb ROM, best one so far imo & multiwindow is in this one too
I just bought my wife a used TF300T running stock 4.2.1 and, after rooting and using lagfix, it doesn't seem any faster than my TF101 running KatKiss 4.4.2. Maybe I should have bought another TF101 and saved a few bucks.

I'm having problems with Netflix.. A lot of times it hang.. Not loading, but the picture. The video will seemingly stop playing and get stuck, but the sound continues and the playback timer continues also. Only the video gets stuck. The only thing that will temp fix it is to close the app and open again, but even then there's a 50/50 chance it will screw up again. And if I move to a specific spot in the video, so that it has to sort of reload it, it will likely get stuck again.
You guys have any problems like this with Netflix? Solutions?

Hi
Sorry to revive an old thread
I am in the same boat. I have a B40 tablet.
I followed the steps up till install ROM.
When I install, it is stuck at "updating partition detail".
I have tried to flash newest twrp without success ( cannot even get into recovery)
I have tried easyflasher to unbrick, flash twrp 2.2.1, flash twrp 2.3.2.3 using GOOmanager, but still stuck at "updating partition detail" when flash katkiss 4.4.2v23c.
I have tried different micro-sd cards and different downloads.
What may have gone wrong?
Thanks

Does it not flash the ROM first, then stop at "Updating Partition Details" ?
Are you sure it hasn't successfully flashed the ROM?
iirc Updating Partition Details is the last thing it says after flashing

Sadly not.
When I swipe to flash, that is the first and only line that pops up immediately.
If I let it sit at that line for the night, in the morning I see TWRP going back to home screen. But the log still only has that one line.

Ok, try NVFLASH'ing the Stock ROM
NVFLASH will delete and re-create all the partitions on the device and then flash you back to 100% factory stock
Once you are up and running with stock, use Easyflasher to flash TWRP recovery again, then try flashing KatKiss ROM again from TWRP
Download > Extract > Plug TF into PC USB > Power off TF and Put TF into APX Mode (Vol Up & Power) > Run download.bat as Administrator

Thanks for your reply.
Just a couple questions
1. I have used easyflasher to flash stock before flashing twrp and katkiss. Is that the same as using NVFLASH? Or should I not wipe everything before flashing katkiss so that the partition is not touched? If so, what should I wipe before flashing?
2. I thought katkiss requires twrp >=2.3.2.3 . Easyflasher flashes a version lower than that. Am I correct to use goomanager under stock rom to update twrp to 2.3.2.3 before flashing katkiss?
3. If I want to try flashing katkiss from internal memory, where should I put the zip file and what should I not wipe before flashing?
Thanks

you just have to flash the roms from the base rooted GB with CWM/RED recovery then update GB ---> ICS----->JB----->KK and the CWM version updates itself and each KK rom has its own CWM version
Thanks.
Thank you.

Do you need to flash in that order.. GB > ICS > JB > KK ? because I just flashed GB with CWM then to whatever next rom happen to be without issue. Each version got it's own kernel/cwm so why need to go thru all that. Just curious.

its recommended....i have tried to jump from gb to kk before but then it wouldn't boot the rom so i put into download mode and went back to stock gb the went to ics then jb then every kk rom out there
Hmm.. weird because I have no issue jumping from GB to the current KK or any other rom.. you just need to turn lagfix off b4 u install other rom.

ok.. I just re-flash to stock a few minutes ago and flash kernel for cwm.. now will install the new 4.4.3 and Gapps. And not going go thru ICS or JB.

So I'm guessing your going with CarbonRom's 6/15 nightly?

yep.. let see what 4.4.3 has to offer. Got a couple of days to play around.
For some devices flashing straight from stock just works. If you have red CWM it is a bad candidate and should use ICS as an intermediary. But you can be on GB and not have red CWM (rather blue or green I forget which), as was the case when I first flashed up. This may be your case as well.
Its not the version of the OS that matters, rather the spread of CWM versions. At least that is my understanding of the situation.

I think it's a matter of steps you take from GB to the next rom. For me:
1. GB stock with root.
2. Install sgs kernel flash and flash kernel with CWM (Synthesis).
3. Go into CWM and disable lagfix if it's enabled.
4. Update your flavor rom in recovery mode. NOTE: You will need to flash twice since 1st time give you a warning about partitions.
5. Once flashed it will auto reboot.... HERE you need to remove the battery to power off.. put battery back in and go into recovery mode and flash the rom again since the previous flash only install the new recovery.
6. Install Gapp.
7. CWM: wipe Cache Partition
8. CWM: Advanced > wipe Dalvik Cache
9. Reboot.

Because I have the Rogers variety, my step 2 uses a different product (the name escapes me but I use ODIN to flash it) and I was able to skip over step 3 (not sure if it was even an option). Overall I had red CWM, but the first time CWM was green (or blue). I think the difference in versions had to do that I installed ROM Manager the first time around and tried to install the i9000 (or something) CWM image. It wasn't successful, but it looks like it made some impact.
Out of curiousity, what colour was your CWM in Gingerbread? Synthesis may be using a newer (more forgiving) version.
red cwm 2.5.1.3 after the kernel flashed.
