[Q] OTA Update with towelroot - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have stock 4.4.2 and did towelroot to obtain root. Today I got a new update pushed to my phone before I go ahead with the update I was wondering if I can. Not sure what to do. I would like to stay stock. Thanks for the responses.

Not sure haven't clicked update. If I can re root after then I'm not afraid to do it. I kinda figured it would be lollipop.

What update is being pushed right now? I figured it was lollipop.

If you were on 4.4.2 probably pushing 4.4.4

No confirmed OTA of lollipop. And if hes on 4.4.2 then hes probably on ne5 and latest official is 4.4.4 NK4. Only 5.0 besides cm and aokp, aosp is the leaked NKD 5.0

How to stop OTA Update reminders...

I'm sticking with KitKat, is there a way of preventing/stopping the ota update and the reminder.
Nearly pressed update by accident (shudder).

I made the same decision. If you're rooted, and you have Titanium Backup, you can freeze System Updates and your problem will be solved.
Did you update to latest KitKat? I have a new RMA device and it still on 1.0. Should I at least go to the latest before lollipop? @ALooneyGuy @funbob

I did update to the latest Kit Kat first. I use a lot of xposed modules, and until there is an ART version of xposed, I don't plan on running Lollipop.

I rooted mine and unlocked the bootloader. Is there a way for me to update to the latest kit Kat without losing root or locking the bootloader?
Cheers guys

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can update without losing root.

Stilla ota 5.0 for my Nexus 5 and it's january 5. Why is that?

It's january 5 and I still havn't got Lollipop 5.0 ota for my N5.
Am i the only one with this problem and why is it so? I'm a bit worried here.

Sideload it or flash a stock 5.0 zip. Worry over.

I haven't gotten it either. I think they stopped the ota updates due to bugs. I think they will begin again when 5.0.2 is ready (speculation) for our phones.

I was tired of waiting so i sideloaded ota 5.0. After that the ota 5.0.1 came directly.
Works perfect.

Is there an update for I535VRUCML1?

I have a verizon s3 (I535VRUCML1) and I was wondering if it would ever be updated to kitkat. Every time I check it says 'up to date' and other versions are updating.

It was updated to kk via OTA, however it's locked down tight as far as the bootloader. I wouldn't even consider at least myself taking any updates from big red. It was eventually updated to kk with the 4.4.2 NE1 update

Thanks for your advice. I'll keep the version I have now because I do not want the tightly locked bootloader or knox bootloader. I know I already have knox so I don't want it to be any worse. Thank you again.

New Update: OK3

"This software update includes Android security updates for your Samsung Galaxy S5"
Based on what I've seen from people who updated, here's the info:
Still 5.0 with the same changelist as the past 3 updates (4782027)
Patches all the known issues with stagefright
Includes the 2015-11-01 security patch from google.
Here is the update.zip for anyone (hopefully @muniz_ri) that wants to make a ROM from it.
Probably another update to screw us over like oe1

You can get the latest OK3 update and keep root and have the ability to roll back here

Just upgraded from og5 to ok3. I figured I couldn't root anyways due to accidently upgrading to og5 so I went ahead and updated to ok3.
What about ok7?

Was it worth it? I am in the same boat and scared to pull the trigger. I am kicking myself for doing the latest update because I have the unlimited data plan (which just want up $20 per month by the way).
can we still flash back to NCG if we had not taken ota's?

Yes, you could flash back to NCG if did not take OTA to OE1 or OG5 or OK3.

Is it safe to download this update, move it to the external sd card, then use the button combo and update it that way without a PC? I don't have one and my OTA update thing keeps telling me "software update is currently not available". BTW I'm on the OG5 version currently.

Roll back to LOLLIPOP available?

I'm in the process of temp root to extract boot img for a dev that still does work for our phone. He'll most likely use that to continue development for AutoRec but after I'm done with that I think I'm about done with having nothing available in terms of software on Marshmallow. Considering rolling back to Lollipop. Is it gonna be a pain and are the resources readily available?

I don't think there's any antiroll back. But you can't rollback to lollipop. You'd have to roll back to KitKat and OTA update to lollipop as long as your using an AT&T sim.

If I click OTA update then it'll bring me all the way back up to Marshmallow though right? What would make it stop at Lollipop?

If it does bring you all the way back to MM then you'd have to flash a custom lollipop rom then.

You seem like you know you're stuff so let me ask you something. If there's no perm root for Marshmallow why are people still making Marshmallow ROMs? What's the benefit in running a custom ROM with no recovery, backups or root permission?
you NEED root and recovery to load custom roms. people make marshmallow roms because they're tried/true/stable. the OTA updates happen in stages. at&t has no single large update that brings you from KK straight to MM, you have a couple updates in-between though not sure how many... at least one!
@hyelton - is there no root for stock MM yet or do I have to downgrade using LG tool in windows then root?

You would first have to downgrade using LGUP. There's no root for MM
