How to stop OTA Update reminders... - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sticking with KitKat, is there a way of preventing/stopping the ota update and the reminder.
Nearly pressed update by accident (shudder).

I made the same decision. If you're rooted, and you have Titanium Backup, you can freeze System Updates and your problem will be solved.

Did you update to latest KitKat? I have a new RMA device and it still on 1.0. Should I at least go to the latest before lollipop? @ALooneyGuy @funbob

I did update to the latest Kit Kat first. I use a lot of xposed modules, and until there is an ART version of xposed, I don't plan on running Lollipop.

I rooted mine and unlocked the bootloader. Is there a way for me to update to the latest kit Kat without losing root or locking the bootloader?

Cheers guys

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can update without losing root.

Freeze or uninstall SDM and reboot. That's what I did, saw some other post here saying the same thing.
Really? Custom romantic and recovery and you got an ota? I'm running beans 11 and nothing was pushed to my phone

I'm running rooted stock and it's forcing me as well. I thought it was disabled on all the root roms even stock ones? Not sure how to stop it other than keep defering it.
OTA
I just accepted the OTA, restored to factory defaults, one step rooted it, got rom manager from the play store, booted into clockwork and then reapplied my rom. No biggie.

Just because it worked ok on yours doesn't mean it will on everyone's. Good way to brick your device...
Is this the new security fix? I heard there was a major browser vulnerability.

Probably not, they don't like to fix actual problems. They prefer to make minor tweaks and such to their bloat instead. You didn't want your device to actually work as advertised did you?
what's the baseband version after ota?

What's up crew?
After my update the baseband version is I535VRLG7.
I used Mobile Odin pro to PRE-ROOT the OTA before flashing it.... Successfully I should add.
I don't have the OTA Handy for you though, but if you do a little searching around this forum I'm sure someone has it here for downloading.
The OTA did not update my modem though, I had to flash the G7 baseband version separately. Found it on RootzWiki.
Edit:
Found it: OTA update.

You guys can .... SAFELY... check your device to see if you're vulnerable to the hack on this site.
http://www.androiddoes.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-ussd-hack-test/
Read up on the page.. it says something about if Your Dialer screen coming up and your IMEI is being displayed on it then you have the Vulnerability.. if nothing happens.. or if your dialer comes up with nothing being displayed then you're probably safe.

The phone wipe hack was fixed months ago on the S3. I took the OTA then unlocked (casual) and unlocked boot loader (EZ Unlock). No problems no issues. Slammed Beans 12 non-kexec back on it and I really don't see any difference.... World didn't end Phone police didn't knock my door down.... Nothing....

Even if you are offered the update, it will fail due to it being rooted. Some have reported semi-bricking also occurs.
Suggest you positively avoid any update unless or until you return to 100% Stock.

Source fom Sammobile, we will get Marshmallow!

http://www.sammobile.com/2015/10/09/samsung-has-started-working-on-android-6-0-marshmallow-for-these-devices/
Please read the source link
I read that as well, I am curious to see where this will go.... fingers crossed!
It would explain why we haven't received 5.1.1 yet. They may just jump us straight to 6.0 but it also means we will have to choose whether to stay rooted on 5.0 or give up root for 6.0 since it can (currently) only be rooted if you have an unlocked bootloader.

Indeed. Due to selinux (which is a great feature), rooting 5.1.1 or later requires an selinux permissive kernel. Otherwise you end up with a bootloop after rooting. And the only way to get an selinux permissive kernel is to build from samsung sources... basically Samsung has officially defeated root as of Android 5.1.1 with it's heavy integration of KNOX.

WHEN it gets released you will be able to take it via OTA there will be no need to flash. WHEN it gets released you will be free to go to stock no root 6.0

Yes, but ... if you are rooted and activate sdm to allow the OTA notification and take the OTA, you do it knowing that you are saying goodbye to root, probably for the remaining life of your phone.
I dont think marshmallow has enough in it for me to loose root. lol no thanks

Roll back to LOLLIPOP available?

I'm in the process of temp root to extract boot img for a dev that still does work for our phone. He'll most likely use that to continue development for AutoRec but after I'm done with that I think I'm about done with having nothing available in terms of software on Marshmallow. Considering rolling back to Lollipop. Is it gonna be a pain and are the resources readily available?

I don't think there's any antiroll back. But you can't rollback to lollipop. You'd have to roll back to KitKat and OTA update to lollipop as long as your using an AT&T sim.

You seem like you know you're stuff so let me ask you something. If there's no perm root for Marshmallow why are people still making Marshmallow ROMs? What's the benefit in running a custom ROM with no recovery, backups or root permission?
you NEED root and recovery to load custom roms. people make marshmallow roms because they're tried/true/stable. the OTA updates happen in stages. at&t has no single large update that brings you from KK straight to MM, you have a couple updates in-between though not sure how many... at least one!
@hyelton - is there no root for stock MM yet or do I have to downgrade using LG tool in windows then root?

[CLOSED] Moto X style Nougat is rolling out

Prepare your devices fellas , 7.1.1 is about to roll out cause there's an article on bgr said so
I personally wanna wait 'til Xposed is compatible for nougat.

I don't see how a benchmark entry suddenly means official Nougat is rolling out anyway.
Yeah, that headline is hyperbole. It's a good indicator that it's getting closer. Not that it is about to our is rolling out.
Oh look, another Nougat roll out thread with the same image as all of the others.

Your Phone will give the message that there is an update to new software. But as soon you will try to install it, it will fail.
OTA can't be installed on custom recovery, you need te be on stock rom, stock recovery and unrooted.
There are a few posts on the general section to go back to scratch, or just wait till a developer makes an stock based rom on 7.1.

Do you mean FlashFire? flashfire warns you that Motorola devices are Experimental.
Isn't it risky to from 6 to 7 with flashfire? And sure you may not have Xposed Framework installed.

Flashfire is of course what I meant, Doh on my part!! Never had any issues with it working with my Moto X Style. I would imagine that Motorola have factored in that the majority of their users will still be running an out of date version of Android and that it will go from 6 to 7 with little if any issues. I'll be giving it a try from a custom 7.1.1 rom first before wiping my device and trying it that way, once (if!) it comes out of course.
