Doesn't matter, it's perfectly fine if you know what you're doing, the only problem is that many people have no idea what they're doing.

Completely agreed.
One question to make sure, since I haven't ever flashed my 1+1 yet. Will a wipe before flashing a 5.0.2 ROM (I'm on 4.4.4) delete all the stuff on /sdcard? Normally that's never the case - but I want to be sure on my 1+1.
Thanks

It will only wipe your internal storage if you choose to do so. Just do the usual full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) and you'll be fine.

He's only said not to restore system data with Titanium. It's ok to backup/restore user apps with their data.

Alternative to titanium backup

Is there an alternative to TiBu that will allow me to backup all my apps and data without having to select "install" and "done" for every app? I just want to have it install all my apps and not botherme with the permissions and what not, just do it.
Thanks
Jerry
P.S. or am I doing something wrong?
If you purchase the pro version it will fo just that.
No more being prompted to install every app

Super Manager is free from the market and you can enable silent installs on restores I believe.

I've been very happy with MyBackup Pro.
My Backup Root is also a good free alternative.

Have you ever used it to restore system data? What about after flashing to a different ROM? Backing up system data with TiBu is only useful if you are restoring to the same ROM version, otherwise you get force closes that will require a reflash. I'd like something that lets me restore system data across any ROM even if it is only my contacts, BT pairings, e-mail accounts and wifi settings. That's the stuff I hate having to redo every time I flash a ROM.

"unfortunately, settings has stopped"

Hello all,
I just tried to make my Nexus 5 read NFC while on the locked screen using this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/mod-modified-nfcnci-apk-to-poll-screen-t2391170/page3
Apart from it not working (rooted, read/write, permissions set, etc....) I now get the following error mesage when I try to onter the setting on my Nexus.
"unfortunately, settings has stopped"
Placed back the original 'NfcNci.apk' and 'NfcNci.odex' files with no result.
I did a lot of searching, but cannot find a solution.
I hope anyone can help my out here.
Thanks in advance !!!!!
Don't suppose you made a nandroid before installing the apk. You could just restore it if you did. OtherWise you might have to flash the system.img from the factory image in fastboot

Forgot to mension that :silly:
I backed up the original 'NfcNci.apk' and 'NfcNci.odex' before I started. Already placed the back, with no results.

If that doesn't work you can just make a nandroid backup, flash factory images, use Titanium Backup to backup the fresh Settings.apk/NfcNci.apk/data then restore your nandroid and restore the TiBu backup of those two

Deleted the content in com.android.nfc. No luck.
Dalvik is new to me.
What I discovered is that the 'NfcNci.apk' looks different after replacing it.
It first looked like a bluetooth logo (the backup on sd still does). But after copying it to 'system/app' it looks like an android robot coming out of a blue box with APK written on it.
When I trie to run the 'NfcNci.apk' it gives me a parse error.

Delete both the .apk and .odex, along with data folder then reboot to recovery, clear cache and Dalvik, boot into android and put the backed up files back into /system/app with correct permissions and reboot again. If it doesn't work then try the other method I suggested previously, if that doesn't work I don't know what to tell you lol. Also try clearing data of Settings itself
Thanks for all your help thusfar Lethargy!!!
If you can only tell me how to "clear cache and Dalvik" I will give it a go.
I'm a bit new to android so please forgive me for any simple questions......

Depends on what recovery you're using, TWRP or CWM. In CWM it should be in advanced, in TWRP tick the boxes for it in wipe. Search it up if you're not sure.
On the other hand, "Unfortunately, Lethargy is falling asleep"
Different timezones i guess
I ended up flashing and restoring the apps one by one. So far so good.......

[Q] Titanium Backup aid (mobilepass)

Hope everyone is having a good week so far.
I am relatively new to my Nexus 5, and loving the phone so far. I am not new to flashing roms, rooting devices, etc., but definitely not a extreme power user by any means.
The one issue I am running into is preserving a particular application, MobilePass, as I flash a new rom on my Nexus 5. By flashing I mean a clean flash (clearing system data etc). I use titanium backup (paid version), and while it will restore the APK, it does not restore the app information. Why this is a problem is the program is used to generate a VPN key, and if the token information is not preserved I have to go through this long process at work to get the VPN working again (sending access code, having infrastructure enable, etc.) Will say, I can understand if it is not possible to restore a program like this for security reasons, but figured I will ask the community.
The steps I take in running the backup in titanium:
- Going to the batch screen
- Selecting backup apps + system data
Have never tried the option to create a flashable zip.
Anyone have pointers or other backup utilities they would suggest?
Additionally, did read over: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2717159 but did not really give me anymore information than I did not already know.
Thanks for any help.
**Edit after installing helium (CM backup solution), it seems that there is an option in Android application development to not allow apk backup's. So there might not be a solution here.

Some apps just don't respond well to being restored. Don't think there's much you can do. Maybe try another backup app to see if it's the same deal?

Thanks for the fast reply. Are there any other backup programs you recommend?
Titanium is the best for a reason. Extremely reliable and paid version has many uses.
But just to see if your app is capable of restoring data... Try anything you find on playstore. Just backup that app. Then uninstall it. And try restore. There's "my backup root" and "Helium" . Those are the only 2 I know off hand.
Maybe try the apps website to see if you can find out if it's even possible to restore data maybe first though.

Thanks KJ. I did try Helium, and think I found the issue. Updated the first post with a screenshot. Would be nice if Titanium had the same notification system.

Real full backup of S7 possible?

Hi, is it possible to make a real full backup of the S7?

Would Smart Switch help me back and restore everything from a cracked S7 to my replacement S7??
No smart switch doesn't backup app data.
Only a Nandroid backup using TWRP custom recovery can do a true full backup
It backup my app data
So there is no such option? I am also interested but without titanium?
Only way to do a FULL backup is a nandroid backup. If you have TWRP installed do it through that.

The last few days I used smart switch a few times, also made encrypted backups and it does not backup app data!
It only backs up launcher setups and some settings.
When talking about app data we don't mean SMS and contacts....

Yes, the last time I used it to backup it backed up everything even the app data
Re: backup and transfer data
If you mean that transfer data from Android to Android, then you can try the FORecovery Phone transfer, which can help you backup and restore all of your data between different Android devices, including app data. BTW, you need to boot your phone before transfer. However, if you want to transfer the data from iPhone to Android, I afraid that you can only transfer the basic data except for app data.

I have only been able to successfully restore the twrp backup only once, and that too only data partition, restoring others never worked. Most probably it might be encryption issues. Now I don't rely on twrp backups,I use swift backup for backing up apps and I setup rom each time.
If you still wanna use twrp backup/restore consider keeping your storage unencrypted in the future.
Also you can try restoring the twrp backup after setting up oos once, but without any password..just pass the setup screen and then try restoring..give it a try, might work.

Well if you use your phone carefully then encryption is not a big deal I think, anyway I am not the expert here
Encryption is really annoying for me, I am currently dual booting so encryption might cause some data loss in case I screw up.

Okay I flashed oos and rebooted to system and then I restored system and data and then wiped dalvik/art and it worked
I use the dual boot twrp and restore full backup to both slots
You can switch between the slots trough the reboot menu
I stored the full backup on a USB stick
When installing the dual boot twrp I chose to disable all verification and encryption, make sure to flash it from USB stick with your current twrp
Now both of my slots work fine, before one slot was corrupted and showed the Qualcomm dump error
Finally I can easily and securely make full twrp backups and restore then to both slots
I have this on my phone....
