[Q] Help choosing Micro SD card - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi,
I want to install a new ROM in my TF700, with ROM2SD/DATA2SD and for that I am going to buy a Micro SD card.
The thing is I do really want to buy the fastest Micro SD card possible, but I don't understand the all variety of Micro SD card models/specs.
Can someone suggest me some micro sd cards (32GB?) that will be compatible and fast with TF700?

I have both the Scandisk Ultra UHS class 10 and the Samsung Evo.
I get better write speeds (and performance on data2sd) on the Samsung Evo UHS class 10.
The Samsung Pro also works well.
Forget those that promise 90mbs or more - IF the card actually gets that speed other than in an optimal test environment at the manufacturer, our CPU would become the bottleneck...
Make sure you buy from a reputable source and if from Amazon not the "frustration free packaging". It's disgusting how many fakes are sold out there....

The TF supports up to 32 GB Micro SD without the dock, is this correct?
I just want to make sure before I potentially buy the wrong thing.
Yes micro sdhc without the dock, the dock have sd (and sdxc as far as i know)...

a better question is what class of sd card do we need? And does it matter? class 4 or class 10? (i know there is a speed difference but will we notice?)
Yes 32gb is the max for the microsd. And the highest class level the better. You would see a dramatic difference in write speed (if you had 2 to compare). Link about sd cards.
I have MicroSd Samsung 16Gb Class 2 and works fine
32GB Class 4 with no problems...
Buy.com had a sale other day for a Lexar 32gb Class 10 for about $90...
I jumped on it. It has pretty good reviews.

[Q] Is pulling from micro sd card as fast as internal memory

(1) I'm going to buy a galaxy s4 when it comes out. I know it would probably be cheaper to buy the 16 mg version ,then buy micro sd card.
My question is does the phone work faster from the internal memory or does it pulll info just as fast from a micro sd card?
(2). Would sandisk extreme pro be a good choice ?

I was told that sandisk doesn't work well with Samsung brand so I suggest you to buy Samsung sd card as well
Like anything, internal memory will always be faster...

i have been using the SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSDHC Class 10 and it works fine in the sg3
just make sure you get the ultra class 10 as it has faster speeds than the lower class cards
put the things that need to pull up fast on the internal memory like apps and put everything else on the card like music and things you wont notice a difference on

Not always true. I recommend reading benchmark test on the card you want to by and its competitors. I've seen some benchmarks where a Class 6 Sandisk beat out a Kingston Class 10 in the past in "some" writing areas.
I had a nightmare with sandisk in general both in my dslr and GS2. I use Lexar now and never had one issue. Sandisk has great customer service though. Refunded all 3 of my pro cards.

If the Galaxy S4 supports the UHS sdcards (45mb or 90mb read/write) then that would be as fast as you need imho.

This is extremely true! Never trust an SD card by what the claims are on the box. I have purchased many SD cards (all brands) over the last couple of months. 6 class 10 Sandisk all 32GB from different sources (Amazon, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc...) and none of them benchmarked in at class 10. Most were between class 4 and 8 write speeds with read speeds being a bit better. 2 PNY 32 GB class 10 cards. Both of those tested above class 10 performance but died within 2 weeks. I have not been able to find and Amazon Basics 32 GB Class 10, but the other Amazon cards I have tried have worked well. Samsung cards seem to work well as well, but I have not benchmarked any of them. It really seems to be a crapshoot if you get a good card or not. Each specific device seems to like some brands better than others. Also, there is a huge (and I mean huge) problem with counterfeit cards and misrepresented (changed) class of cards flooding all markets. So good luck and let everyone know if you find a good card.
I also would say, download and do a full write format on the card with sdformatter https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/ prior to use. I have gotten many 4 speed cards to record hd video on my t3i just by using that software, when a regular format won't work.

32gb.
Everything higher would be SDxc and thus not compatible with our device
I'm using a class 4 card and feel it's sufficient. But since SD cards are fairly cheap in most countries nowadays, I'd choose a class 10 card. They just read and write way quicker (and can subsequently also be applied to enhance your RAM ).

[SOLVED] Best SD card class?

Hey everyone,
I'm considering buying the Nvidia Shield and I would like to use more than the 16GB internal storage. I'm looking to buy a 32GB Micro SD card and format it to FAT32. Which SD card class should I buy?
Thanks a bunch
hello?

Class 10 UHS-1? I hesitate to answer this question because even with that card I'm only transferring data at 12mb/s. Usually its an abysmal 4mb/s. Definitely not normal but the I just deal with it.
My card is a Sandisk 64gb class on 10 UHS-1. I should be getting minimum 10mb/s, max 45mb/s. Smh.

I'm thinking of getting the Sandisk 32 GB 10 UHS-1 (seen here), since I don't want to deal with 64GB and above SD cards. It was my understanding that the higher the card in terms of size, the lower its' performance and inability to be used on the shield. Am I correct on this one?
Yeah Android is funny like that, I had big problems using a 64gb sdxc on my Galaxy s3 but I'm pretty sure that problem was isolated to Samsung devices. I'm far more of a PC guy than mobile so it seems strange to me that higher capacity performs poorly compared to low capacity, where nand SSD's are the opposite.
That being said I've had no issues other than speed with a 64gb sdxc in my Shield. Haven't seen anyone complain about the 128gb either.
Better to get input from someone who actually knows something about secure digital memory.
The main Problem...
The thing is, thcard is a UHS-1 class SDXC card, but the micro sd card reader doesnt support sdxc or UHS-1. So your card will never go faster than stupid slow...I have the Samsung evo which has 48mb/s and im lucky if it pushes 10mb/s...
The shields port limits it to true class 10 which IS 10mb/s. I hope this clears that up..lol
Basically, Sandisk, Transcend and Samsung Evo Micros are the best to get. I personally use this in mine, it's just a well made card...
http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Mic...id=1405501012&sr=8-1&keywords=transcend+micro
Thanks for all your comments!
So... I feel I should buy a 32GB SD Card as long its' a class 10 card. I personally like SanDisk, so I feel like using that.
In any case, I'm still having some thoughts about the Nvidia Shield, but it will straighten up soon enough.
Again, Thanks a BUNCH for helping me out and sort this issue for me ^_^

What's the best type of SD card for Note4?

Hey guys, My wife and I will be getting the Note4, what SD card is recommended? I don't know if we're going with a 64 or a 128 just wondering about quality and SD vs SDXC. thanks..

My Thoughts
I was contemplating the 128 but i don't think i'll ever use it, and im a music and movie junkie, but i don't keep movies (or tv shows) on my phone after i watched them, so i went with a 64gig sandisk mobile ultra. I also don't believe the phones can take full use of the higher transfer rates of some cards (48mb/s+ cards) so i went with this guy here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JAKH0F4
its Amazon Prime Eligible and comes with the adapter and usb reader.
I'm sure others will post their thoughts as well
Goodluck

These phones won't take advantage of the higher speeds of the Extremes and Pros unless you're removing the card from your phone and plugging it into a USB 3.0 card reader each time. So The 48MB/s Ultras and Evos are good enough.

Samsung 64gb Evo
yeah, like he said, if you are only using the card in your phone, get this guy for less than 40 bucks!
Just picked up one of these

Got good reviews and has the bandwidth for 4K. The Note 4 will be my first 4K device so I wanted to make sure I had a good card to go with it. Dont need 128 GB (yet) personally as I stream pandora for my music. I am sure the sandisk cards would have been just fine as well.
I have the 128GB microSD card and it's great! Super fast, and stupid high capacity. But with picture and video file sizes getting bigger and bigger, and phones doing more and more, I believe that the space will come in handy. I've currently got LOTS of HD movies on it in the Note 3... but if I need the space on the Note 4 I can easily delete them.
hi,
I need to ask what you thin about this SD : SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra Micro SD (SDXC) Card - Class 10 UHS-1
I had this about a year and would be good for note 4 and QHD video? or which speed is good for note 4 to be great for video camera?
thanks

Really makes no difference since the phone does not support the UHS-I speeds. The SanDisk Ultra would be as good as a more expensive ones.
sanddisk and Samsung are both highly rated as very good quality. You can't go wrong with either. I suggest which ever one on sale or cheaper that's the way to go.
great guys thanks, I was scared to buy new one card.
Im getting this..
Samsung Electronics 64GB PRO Micro SDXC with Adapter Upto 90MB/s Class 10 Memory Card (MB-MG64DA/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IVPU88U/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_kLSmub1MQDR6P
Grabbed this one for $80 during the sale in the morning.
http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-High-Performance-microSDHC-Memory-LSDMI128BBNL633R/dp/B00O1M21H8
Decided to go with it since Lexar (micron/crucial) makes the best chips and the warranty is better than the one provided by Samsung and SanDisk. But most importantly, it's faster than the current SanDisk.
I wish there was an option to up the voltage to the SD card readers in Samsung phones. I get that they lower the power for battery life and heat, buy I also want to get decent transfer speeds with my phone. No real point in getting an SD card above 48MB/s for phone use only as the required voltage for UHS-1 is not available. I do believe that all Snapdragons since the 600 support UHS-1 though. Too bad.
i'm curious about the 128 gb max storage on specification, does that mean phone+ micro sd = 128 max or 128gb micro sd+ phone internal storage?

128gb max is the microsdxc alone (but that's only because there aren't any 256GB microsdxc cards on the market)
it's 128gb + 32gb
Running SanDisk ultra sdxc 128GB in my GN3 and mt Go Pro Hero3 black .
Like computers, our devices tested/rated for what memory is currently available when the device is released.
For example GN3 is rated for 64GB sdxc, but 128GB works fine.
For what was initially stated in the OP.
The variants of "sd" are based on capacity. With few exceptions to some 4gb mSD cards, sdhc is 4gb-32gb , and sdxc is 64+GB for meow. Until something greater than 128GB is released, which may or may not be sdxc or variant of.
Whats the max speed can the note 4 read on sd card? Same as note 3 and other recents samsung phones?
+1^100000000
THIS IS THE BEST CARD OUT PERIOD.
If you want the best, here you go:
Samsung Electronics 64GB PRO Micro SDXC with Adapter Upto 90MB/s Class 10 Memory Card (MB-MG64DA/AM)
For the cost of your kidney you can also opt for: Lexar High-Performance microSDHC 633x 128GB UHS-I Flash Memory Card LSDMI128BBNL633R
(However, I'd wait for Samsung's 128GB PRO ....one things for sure, you can count on it in every way.)
SanDisk is garbage...never again. The integrity of the cards have tanked over the years.
Go Samsung....

Lexar is every bit as good as Samsung if not better. they're owned by Micron/Crucial and are known in the photography and computer sphere for making the best chips out there, but I guess their stuff is marketed as more high brow so the average consumer isn't acquainted with the brand. Note that the Lexar cards have lifetime warranties for a reason.
