I have been looking all over for a SOLID car mount to hold my edge. After asking and harassing every phone shop and internet site and i stumbled into a verizon store and they showed me the iBolt. I bought it right away...
The good:
*solid construction
*adjustable grips for phones with or without a case ... even otterbox.
*microsuction in the suction cup
*built-in cable management
The bad:
*No wireless charging
*No rewriteable nfc.
*Price
Worth the price actually. Best ive found

The iBolt car mount is the best one (in my opinion) out there. I have it since I had a Galaxy S4. They one I have is universal so I had it while using the S5, Note 4 and now with the Edge. The adjustable grip arms are fantastic, makes the phone feel secure. The built-in cable for charging is also great although I'd prefer wireless charging.

Sprint carries those. That is on my list to buy.

I've used that model of iBolt since it came out. In fact, I was part of the early group that didn't get the USB cable because of manufacturing delays, so they shipped it separately. Got two mounts at that time. We've used it with all models from the original GS-4g, SII, SIII, and now Note Edge.
The only real problem I've had is that the ball joint crushes the resistance band in the receptacle, which then lets the dock portion rotate much too freely. I had one replaced for that early on, but when the replacement did the same thing, I didn't bother to get it fixed again. My son recently took one for his car, and the spring that keeps the top clamp down eventually popped out and it doesn't hold his phone very well any more.
Another minor niggle is that the bottom left foot sometimes presses the volume buttons, so I have to mount slightly offset so the volume-up doesn't stay pressed.
If I ever switch away from the iBolt, I will probably find a better universal dock and keep using the "magic pigtail" that enables dock mode on the Samsung phones. Love it with Car Home Ultra

Samsung dock/carmode is a nightmare. But, with a tectile or rewritable nfc sticker, you can have your phone automatically do anything one you sit it on the dock.

Hi Troy, if you fill in the form on www.ibolt.co/support and we will send you a new dock. The xProDock has a latch with less force and you will not have any issue with this. The products are covered for 2 years so no sweat
Also, if you turn the phone around (and change the position of the "magic" pigtail) the foot will not touch the volume button, it will be on top instead.

If you download the two iBOLT Apps from the Google Play store, the Dock'n Drive App and the DockMode App you can turn any Android phone into "DockMode" without using an NFC tag. Just start the DockMode (orange icon) App and the Dock'n Drive will start. With this you can have Bluetooth, WiFi, Hotspots & more turned on/off automatically when you step into the car. Have a cool digital GPS enabled speedometer & much more.

Thanks! I think I'll take advantage of that.
EDIT: Oops, looks like I am slightly outside the two year window. I see an email from Kim on 1/24/2013 confirming my order via Amazon (sans cables). Looks like I had one replaced in May 2013 for the crushed resistance band where the ball joint connects.

Just ordered me one of those.
I hate universal holders and I hate passive holders. This seems like the best choice right now, since the official merchandise is still not in sight...
http://www.pdashop.nl/product/90916/brodit-active-holder-google-nexus-one.html
I have one. It works super. You'll be really happy with it.
Google is missing the boat huge on this car dock.
That's good to hear, MadFlava. I had one of those for my previous phone (Touch Diamond) and that one has served me perfectly too.
Installed mine yesterday. I love it. The cords are ugly but I'll work on that when I get a chance.
Yup, I have one and would recommend them too
Well, received mine today, and... my Nexus One does not fit??? It will not slide far enough over the micro-usb connection.... any of you guys experienced anything like this?
It does not charge now... and there's like 2mm of space left between the bottom of my Nexus One and the holder.. I've used force to some extent, but it just will not slide any further..

I'm new here so I can't post links but go to androidforums.com and search for the thread ProClip Mounting System. In there you'll find a guy (dbpaddler) that has a lot of knowledge about these mounts. He's a re-seller for Brodit I think. Tell him about your problem and maybe he can help.

Sounds very odd. Can you post us a few pictures of what's going on?
See attachment. The micro-usb connector in the holder is about 4.5mm high, but my Nexus One will only slide over it like for 2mm and then it feels like it is blocked by something. I've used force, but no movement whatsoever.
I find it strange too.. I don't see anything odd on the connector, nor on the female connector on my Nexus One. I guess I'll take it back to the store...
How odd. It looks like the connector is slightly left of centre, if you use the trackball to be centre... no jiggling will make it fit?
It may look a bit off-centre due to my photography skills, it looks okay in real life. Jiggling or forcing does not help unfortunately. Of course the connector that came with my Nexus One charger fits nicely, and I don't see any peculiarities when I compare it to the one on the Brodit.
Anyhow, I logged an issue with the webshop that I bought it from and they happen to have a brick-and-mortar store some 50km from here, so I may drop by to demonstrate my problem. Thanks for your help.
Do you have a body skin on the phone?
Nope, no skin. Going to the store later today to have the holder replaced, they think it may just be a faulty unit. Will keep you all posted.
Well, guess what.... just returned from the store, and the replacement holder that they offered had exactly the same problem. The sales guy was as astonished as I was. Personally he had not sold any of these, since the Nexus One is officially not available yet here in the Netherlands, so demand is minimal, but it makes me wonder if I'm really the only one with this problem, and whether my specific Nexus One could be the problem...
Anyway, he took mine back and I was fully refunded, so kudos for pdashop.nl.
Downside: still no carmount for me.
I have one too, it does fit but, I had to wiggle it a little bit to get it in......
It was not just straight forward. I will have a go tonight and see if it still play hard to get.
anyway once plugged, it worked fine for me.
We (both me and the sales guy in the store) used force and wiggled, but to no avail. Besides, I don't want a holder that needs wiggling in the first place. I want it to fit perfectly. That's why I do not buy a universal holder but a Nexus-specific one.
I got mine and it fits perfect.

does the charger model charge the phone at 500ma or 1000ma? can someone with one check the settings and see if it says charging usb or ac?
The Site is not in english. how do you guys understand what information to fill out when ordering? also can you guys please post some pics? with the dock already in place? just wondering what its going to look like in my car.
Hey everyone,
I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this product but I just found it on sale at Canadian Tire here in Canada and I'm very impressed. It's just so convenient.. I can't believe I haven't seen this before. I am amazed by it, honestly.
http://www.tetrax.com/us
Look at the XWAY and FIXWAY primarily. I purchased the XWAY at Canadian Tire for $30 (regular $50). A little expensive compared to what I am used to, but I am very happy with it so far.
The reasons I like this solution:
Works with any type of device
Sturdy and secure. Even holds me 5" GPS (though I prefer to use Google Navigation )
Allows for the keyboard to be open on most (if not all) qwerty phones
Allows for portrait and landscape rotation
Is not visible when device is on the mount
Is very small and unobtrusive when device is not on the mount
There are no clips or snaps to fiddle with, just slide off the device
You can use this with 4 devices out-of-the-box as it comes with 4 different sized magnetic pads for your devices
This does not introduce a magnetic field to yoru device (the magnet is broken into 4 and arranged intelligently)
The negative things I've discovered about this solution:
You need a magnetic pad on each device you want to use
The XWAY can be accidentally pulled off the vent if you yank the device straight off of mount instead of sliding it off
Depending on your car vents, the angle that the device is pointed might not be ideal
I will post pix tomorrow if anyone is interested! The site has quite a few to look at until then.
Here's some pix!
I don't have photos of it in the car quite yet. I'll try to get some tomorrow morning.
Today I found the FIXWAY at BestBuy and decided that I might like that better since it can be positioned in a better spot in my car. My cars vents are not ideal since the steering wheel covers part of the screen when mounted there. However, even so, the XWAY has been by far the best car mount I've ever seen or used. The FIXWAY should be even better (for my particular car).
I also discovered that the FIXWAY doesn't actually get fixed to the car itself as I thought, but instead it uses a square magnet which you fix to your car. It actually comes with 2 of these in case you want to use this in 2 cars. Like the metal button that you stick to the phone, the square metal that goes on the car has 3M adhesive on the back. It's super strong, works great.
Anyway here's some photos of both the XWAY and FIXWAY I took in my living room.
Very interesting. But, in my feeling, the lack is that we can't orientate the phone ...
I guess it depends how your car's dashboard is angled. Mine faces me just fine and the videos I've seen it seems like most work out fine
And for rotation, you can rotate it any which way before or after your phone is mounted.
I have had the xway for about 2 months now and I love it. If you are attaching it to the vents their is really no reason to have to angle the phone. I agree that if you have some weird vent configuration it may be an issue.

Wow I guess I didn't so the best job at reading through that thread! I even posted a link from there to here on page 11. Good pix though! Thanks
Here are some pix of the FIXWAY in the car without the phone on it (all I had to take the pix was the phone). One of these days I'll remember to bring out the camera..
Oh, and good news... It seems that you can actually angle/tilt the phone with the FIXWAY. It must be the shape of the magnet or something, and the fact that the 'X' is rubber, I am able to tilt it and it holds in place. Not a lot, but enough that I was able to cut down on some glare on the drive home
That's pretty cool, And I actually lik the blob on the back of the phone

It should stick to any shell/case just fine I would think?
For some years I use some velcro (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro). The soft side on my phone, lighter. The hard side on the dash.
Costs almost nothing. Works very well, except in the summer when it is very hot (than the glue gets sticky)

I am still very much in love with this thing. My whole family has'em now, which is awesome because whenever I drive any of their cars I'm set
Is it weird that it reminds me of a tie fighter?
Thanks for the recommendation and all the pictures. Difficult to find a mount that doesn't interfere with the camera and/or volume buttons.
So despite posts on here suggesting that our phone wouldn't work with the Standard Dock for the Bionic, I decided to take the plunge and snag one anyways ($10.99 w/free shipping on Amazon here if you're Prime). I figured I could eat the cost if it wouldn't work, and I also ordered a small micro usb 'extension cord' at the same time, to see if that would help.
The dock arrived today and I popped the phone on the dock - it doesn't sit flush in the cradle (as to be expected, the port is shifted to the left), but it does connect, the phone recognizes it's connected (and offers various dock modes), and it charges the device (when plugged in, of course).
I still may try and disassemble the device and shift the plug over to make it fit flush, but it does work as is.
Just figured I'd share in case anyone else just wanted a simple dock/charging station wasn't up to spending the $80+ that the A2 specific HD dock goes for.

Will do once I find batteries for my 'real' camera. So used to using the phone as a camera these days.
But I can tell you it sticks up and out, and looks awkward as hell. So it's probably not going to be aesthetically pleasing to you.
That's what I was thinking.
Maybe I can take a dremel to it?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2
I have to apologize - I'm having a comedy of errors here when it comes to trying to get pictures (that aren't from the phone itself, at least). I can't find the main camera. I found an older camera but it's apparently dead (got a pretty purple grainy picture at my attempt). If I do happen to find that regular camera anytime soon, I'll snap some pictures.
In the meanwhile, I've linked to 2 pictures of the dock w/o the phone in it (taken by the phone, ofc) ... instead of sitting flush, the phone is over to the left about the length of my pinky. Please ignore my fat hands holding said dock.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8mauz9yfq72htoa/2013-04-12 13.02.10.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6xwo6w8t4fpbzsx/2013-04-12 13.01.47.jpg
So I took it apart (and probably destroyed it, but oh well) ... there's 2 rubber pads on the bottom, one on each side. Beneath each pad are two small phillips head screws. Pop those four out and the device should separate. I tried making my own hole next to where it comes by default (stretching the cabling, flipping the shield, etc), even marking the usb so that it was extended out far enough. No dice. Worked briefly as a dock again but I wasn't happy with how unsteady it was and fiddled with it more, and now it doesn't recognize it as dock.
If anyone else wants to hack at it and is willing to cover your own shipping costs, toss me a PM and I'll be happy to send in onward.

I'd recommend buying an Exogear and being done with it! Exogear makes awesome mounts, and they'll hold many devices with or without a case!

I recommend the Oso Mount. This can be used in 2 ways:
1 - sticky side on your windscreen/dash and clamp on your phone (up to 5 inch wide)
2 - sticky side to the back of a tablet and clamp on car vents
This is version 2 at £19:

I had the ibolt for the s3 already and it fits great and has room for a case but for some reason I can not get it to charge and output audio to my stereo. Loved my mount when i had my s3 but anyone know what would cause it to not charge or output audio. Is this the same problem you are having with your mount?
There are plenty of threads already about this exact topic on this section, and if you had searched, you would have found my review of the iBolt..... no need for a new thread asking when you could do the research and find which one works best for you!

dont think it blocks it on the S4 either but i dont have the phone yet (waiting on my verizon pre-order). makes no mention of it on their website or in the reviews
Just took the mount out for a test drive. I stuck the suction cup to my dash and Im surprised how sticky it was. Totally wasn't moving. Also it doesn't block the camera on my nexus so definitely won't block it on the note 2 or S4. Best 20 bucks I spent on a car mount ever

The pictures on the website show that it might partially block the power and volume rocker? I wonder if that would be an issue for the S4? I also wonder how hard it clamps down on the phone when it is placed into the mount. The video on the website only shows a bunch of pictures, not a real-time demonstration. Other than those issues, it looks promising.

I ordered this one from Cdiscount Grip Phone : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Po5Xsz1MiE last week, it should arrive soon...
it has good reviews, seems non dependant on the device you own (hope it'll hold as fine with my note 8 also, would be great...)
so from the looks of it and even if the arm could have been longer, i would recommend this mount..

Not too sure how it works. I bought the FINTIE SMARTSHELL CASE FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB S 8.4 - NAVY (one without the keyboard) http://www.fintie.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=667_801_804&product_id=5140 online. Excellent quality product but the magnets on the cover interferes with the device. It puts the device to sleep randomly and often I notice interference bands on the screen.
Geoux did a good review post here and confirms the same issue .. seems we may have to stick with the original book cover.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEres5l0dXU
The magnetic features did not seem to be evident here.
I just got one of these keyboards througfh my local Verizon store. I didn't know what I'd get, but it was clearly labelled Finte and there is no Verizon branding on it. The Keyboard is somewhat small, but usable. I'm typing this post as my initial run with the keyboard. I have above average size hands and was expecting more difficulty than I'm having. I'm not a great typist and have issues of some degree with any keyboard. The keys are responsive and provide a good tactile response. As with every keyboard I use, I would love to be able to disable the CAPS LOCK. Otherthan that, this is a pretty nice small keyboard.
When I first tried this at home, I simply folded down the lid of my laptop, which is also my desktop. The Finte attached firmly to the laptop, and refused to do anything. So I took it off the laptop, put it off to the side and just used the wooden desk top. The Finte has no issues, either here, or on any neutral non magnetic surface.
Great case and keyboard for $40.00.
