[Completed] [Q] New in here, in need of advice - XDA Assist

Greetings. I have researched the web and it pointed me yo this community as the best source for rooted android info.
I have acquired a low end phone, and I noticed the GPS stays on all the time (even if you disable it in settings, the GSM battery (and even the regular battery) usage monitor shows it is on 100% of the time.
This is a major inconvenience because whenever an application requests location, it simply bypass my "do not use GPS" setting, turns it on and start searching for sattelites. This is a big battery drain.
Well, I started looking around, found about rooting, and made a self taught crash course about it.
I managed to root my device, installed XPrivacy, DisableService and System Uninstall , fumbled around and uninstalling a few things, fidgetting with permissions and going into the specified processes services I managed to reduce this "GPS Search" quite a bit.
Then I went into the new level, and started thinking about custom ROMs. Thats when I bumped into a problem. My phone is a CCE Motion.evo SK352, local manufacturer, and here in Brazil we have almost NO experience with root and custom phones. Few brazilians understand english AND tech to the point of even start to learn.
Well, the thing is, there is no custom rom avaiable anywhere that shows to be compatible with the model.
HOWEVER, I know CCE does not make chips, and it is using some other manufacturers chips to build their phones. this makes them a half frankenstein half clone.
I wonder if I post enough info abou it, can you point me to a working custom ROM (cyanogen? Paranoidandroid?, ANYONE?) that I can use, downloading the compatible version that matches my specs?
Thanks in advance.
to speed things up, I will type here what I believe are the important bits to know

Hi
I can't find anything relevant on XDA for your device. And keep in mind, There's more to a device than its chipset. Flashing anything not made for your exact device can brick your device, same chip or not. So you're likely not going to find anything useful about it... Other than guesses. But it's your device, so I'd not flash anything that hasn't been proven to work.
Feel free to ask about it here though,
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Good luck!

Thanks!
Yeah, I found out (with the help of CPU Identifier) that it is an MTK 6572, and those are hard to make custom roms for it.
I guess I will have to live with this one as it is, until I can get something more palatable, such as a Galaxy something or a motorola whatever. (next two months)
By the way, any ideas on how to turn off the GPS for good? I mean, until I really want to turn it on, or something? xpermission and disableservice can only go so far. I cannot disable "4.2.2-eng ccadmin" to avoid it listening to requests to turn it off, now can I
One last thing, thou....
wouldl this work>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2687487 ?

You can ask any questions about your device here,
[Ask Any Question][Newbie Friendly]
And again, Flashing any roms that don't mention your model specifically will be a gamble.
That's all I will say on that. But good luck! ?

Several general yet specific questions I need help with

Hey guys, I've got a few general questions about my Android phone, the Motorola Atrix. I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and there are a few things I'd like to more fully understand. I'm an electronics tech for a company that makes RC vehicles, and would like to get these 2 merged together at some point, but more on that later
Currently I keep running in to all kinds of "gotchas!" with this phone, and have cursed it plenty of times. I usually find a workaround, but some things are still not to my liking, and I am pretty sure it can be done.
Let me start off saying this phone is not rooted or anything, but thats only because I have not gotten a straight answer from anyone on how to do it, since I have the newest version of the OS. I really cant afford to brick it beyond my own repair. Here are the software versions:
System Version:4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: N_01.77.30P
Webtop Version: WT-1.2.0-110
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-00001-g41bc3e0
Build Number: 4.5.91
So I guess first off, anyone know how to go about rooting this bad boy? Its my understanding that rooting enables you to have full access to the OS, including, but not limited to, uninstalling all the junk apps that come from the factory/ATT. One of my biggest gripes so far!
Next, I would like to be able to access the Webtop feature via the HDMI cable. Not because I am too cheap to buy the Motorola one, but because I want to make a custom one. I know its been done, and I have seen plenty of threads on how to do it, but its my understanding that I cant do it with this version of the OS. What might be even easier is does anyone know what makes the phone distinguish between the included HDMI cable, home, and car dock? I'm betting its something as simple as a resistor.
Stemming from the above, does anyone know if it is possible to connect another touch screen device to the phone wired or wirelessly and control the phone that way?
Does anyone know where to find a complete spec sheet for this phone, including all the hardware (gyro meter, accelerometer, etc).
A couple other questions I'm just going to throw in this thread instead of making a new one are:
1. Can someone point me in the direction about how to write apps for the Android OS.
2. Does anyone know if Motorola or Google accepts formal reports on their devices from regular users, and how do you get associated with that?
3. After rooting my phone (assuming its even possible), are there other custom versions of OS out there?
Thanks in advance guys, I'm sure I'll be around for a while. I'd like to know this thing in and out so I can really see what its capable of.

[Q] what, and how to, change a MyTablet to

Hi Everyone! Yes, I'm a NOOB, I've never done anything on the developer side of things.
For Father's Day my wife bought me the MyTablet which has ended up to be a bit of a scam...1ghz processor, I have 16gb of memory with another 16gb card in it.
Info on my tablet:
Model Number: A10_MID
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: 4.0.11
Kernel Version: 3.0.8+ ([email protected] #8)
Build Number: crane_q7-eng 4.0.3 IML74K 2020520525 test-keys
System update feature indicates it is up to date.
Anyway, I've had some issues, it seems the company was really a 1 man shop that has disappeared, doesn't
respond to phone calls or emails, etc. Several of the apps I have such as the music player it came with doesn't
keep my playlists, and lately the thing has been shutting down at 64-71% power on the battery. So, I'm thinking
it's either faulty hardware or faulty software. That's not to mention that many apps on the google store said my device
was not compatible with it.
Since I can't do anything about the faulty hardware part at this point (the 2 year warranty was apparently a waste of money)
I thought of wiping the entire thing and starting out fresh with a new O/S. Any suggestions? I was thinking of attempting to turn this into a Nexus 7 type tablet which means installing Jelly Bean, preferably 4.2. I'm not sure how to go about this, but I've been looking around the forums and see there are lots of ROMs out there or maybe it's a Port I'd need. Would you guys recommend going the way of the Nexus 7 or perhaps a different android incarnation?
The Black Rose one found in these forums seemed interesting.
I found these forums and a way to wipe my tablet and add another in this article on techradar.com about how to install android on other devices
but I want to make sure I get something good and can do it correctly.
Boils down to these questions,
1.) Which O/S would you recommend for the tablet?
2.) Which files and/or file types should I download?
Thanks in advance!

I have one too and iam also from P.R iwas trying to find where to upgrade the android and founded this post. Bt it have been a month and nobody has reply. PLEASE HELP XDA....
Welcome to the club!!
Well... it seems am not alone...
I have open the poor tablet open to see if I could identify it better plus I had install "Android System Info" to it and so far I got this:
Android version 2.3.3 (mine is not so stable, get constant freeze here and there...)
CPU is a "tcc8900" according to Android System Info, even though I opened it and it read is label "tcc8902"...
ARM v6
160 MB RAM
... and some other stuff...
Will keep on searching to see what can be done with this... wished I could just install Linux to it ... sad to see so much hardware damn to the trash can.
By the way... this hardware seems similar to an other junk I got, the Augen Gentbook 108... why, why do I find this things so useless with Android?!? Well I got to learn the droid and see what I can do with it...
...or just kill them with fire...

[Completed] [Q] HTC One S - No radio, unmounted SD card

Hey,
I traded a bunch of old laptop parts and got this phone in exchange: an HTC One S. I think some call it a Ville. Nice looking phone.
Anyways, when I made the trade, I didn't notice that there was no icon in the status bar to show it was receiving any kind of cell signal. Really bright and sunny day washed the screen out. Jumped in my car, where it was a little darker, and discovered that the phone had a custom ROM (Or is it RUU?) installed. No biggie. Actually, it ran really smooth and kinda looked cool. It was a Cyanogenmod Mod, called Dark Jelly S edition. My thought was that I could use it as a backup phone, so I went to a local place to get an unlock to use on my network (it was, supposedly, on Fido. I'm on Koodo).
So, I tried to get the IMEI # off of it. No dice. Tried *#06# and I got a blank line. Went into settings, and settings crashed. When I got to the place I get my unlocking done, the guy at the desk knew that if you took off the back cover, there it was! Buddy got my code, but when I put my sim in, nothing. No way to enter the code.
Now, I'm no phone expert, but I knew something was terribly wrong. I have played around a little with smart phones, and even rooted one (well, partially at least), but I did some research, mostly here, and found that this appears to be a rather troublesome phone to mod. to make matters worse, I found out how to get into the bootloader and I fear I have done more harm than good. Not sure what I did, but then the SD card (which, of course, there really isn't one) became unmounted.
What I need, is a step by step process on what I can do, if anything, to make this phone work again. Now I know there are already threads like this on here, but they assume that the people they are helping have dev backgrounds. I do not. I get lost in all the jargon. I follow for a bit and then I get ROM and RUU all mixed up and have no idea what facepalm is or why you want S-off. It needs to be in plain english, or at least as plain a language as the terminology permits. I'm sure I'm not the only one on the planet suffering a similar fate and wondering what the heck to do.
Here is what I know:
Model - PJ40110
Kernel version - 3.0.71-gdde6c1e-dirty
[email protected] #1
Wed May 1 00:22:12 CEST 2013
CPU - ARMv& Processor rev 4 (v71)
Android version - 4.1.2
CyanogenMod version - 10-20130430-UNOFFICIAL-ville
Build version - Dark-Jelly-S-Edition -(Build-31)
Build date - Mi 1.Mai00:19:13 CEST 2013
Build # - cm_ville-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng.
xxmrhyde.20130501.001850 test-keys
Having been rooted and modded, I can access a lot, provided that doesn't happen to be one of the areas that crashes. If you need more info, tell me where to look and exactly what to look for. I'm really that much of a noob. All I really want is for it to work, whether that means taking it back to stock or another mod that actually works. Please help!
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. The purpose of XDA Assist is to point you in the right direction. I'm going to give you some links which hopefully will solve your problem. You're going to have to do the homework. Not having an IMEI is going to be your biggest problem but the first thing to do is get the device back to stock.

[Completed] Root Method For Alcatel OT Pop Icon?

So I've read this phones been out for awhile now. and no one has an official root method for it. YET (omg)
And several people claim to have it rooted using:
VRoot, RootGenius, King / Kingo root
I've been doing an INSANE ammount of googling the last few days. and installing / uninstalling doezns of rooting APK's and EXE's
And so far... I've got absolutley nothing!
I need help!
They all say it cant be rooted / rooted improperly / No SU binary installed / Phones locked / locked up good, what ever.
Hell I'd even pay to send it to a company or to buy pricey software just to get it rooted.
I really need this phone rooted.
Anyone have ideas? same problems? any success?
(good working paid / free programs?)

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of good news.
There are a couple threads out there who have the same problem as you:
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > Alcatel One Touch Pop Icon (Straight Talk ) root, or where to start to build a root
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > [Q] Root request: Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon A564C
Please create an account, so you can post in other forums (otherwise have the benefits of being a member), and then subscribe to those two threads, so you can check on progress.
Sorry, that's probably the best I can offer, since you have probably already seen the root directory.
Hope this helps,and good luck!
This is useful. But not quick enough. There was a forum i saw once.. where you could request / pay for devs to root something idk if it was here or another website. But i need a solution sooner. Anyone got ideas? :C:crying:

Hi,
The monetary exchange (unless potentially a root service with a suggested donation) would go against policy here, so it sounds like a different forum site. I came across for-pay root services before, so they are around. Unfortunately I have no experience with these services, so I am unable to weed out the good from the bad and the skeezy.
The only suggestion I have at this point (and it's part question), is if rooting is that important, you may try an exchange (if is still possible) for a phone model that can be rooted. Can save a lot of headaches. I know, sounds like bad advice, but I was not able to intervene at the right time (and suggest a device that works for you), so now I need to backpedal.
I do hope you find what you are looking for though.

I was considering this. But the company i just started with.. (TotalWireless) shared with a family member 60$ for unlimited c&t 5gb shared.data down from $90 straighttalk, was a really good deal. And the alcatel is the only phone with the newer android, 4.4.2 and screen size 5.0 screen and quad core. Im used to 3.5s and 4's I wany this phone for the screen size and the quadcore.
My old phone with straight talk was the samsung galaxy ace style. Which took me forever to root.. i finally found out about towel root, and hitting the version till numbers popup and changing the 4 to a 0 and it rooted.
But i use black market app. And cpu speed boosyers things like that so i need root.
+ limited storage. I had this phone out of the box for an hour and i already used up all the room, need my sd card.

I looked at the selection, and I see what you mean. I forgot that the S3 (to me, the best of the bunch) didn't make it to KitKat officially (only to 4.3) and that it's a dual-core device. The Alcatel looks to be the most advanced, except for having the 4GB storage (thus I see the need for root to leverage to MicroSD for apps).
Unfortunately, there's not much I can say. I now see only two options (well three, but different carrier is out of the cards):
Find a responsible rooting service
Take advantage of Total's BYOD program
You can do one or the other, but not both. That is, if the service tries to root, and is unsuccessful, Total may see the attempted modification and withdraw the return process. Also, Bring-your-own-device may not work for the device you pick, since they seem to be a Verizon MVNO.
Hope this helps.

Know anywheres i can find unlocked CDMA phones?, with similar or better hardware to the alcatel? I heard it was possible?

CDMA is really unchartered territory for me (I only ever used GSM personally), but you may want to check with Total to see if they are indeed a CDMA-only shop. From what I understand, once you unlock a CDMA phone, you have to rely on a SIM/RUIM card for subscription info (probably explains why I have seen "SIM cards" in slots on CDMA phones before).
So if CDMA-only indeed, you may need to go this far (found an example using an LG G3 from Sprint):
> Sprint LG G3 > Sprint G3 General > Unlock Sprint LS990 for any CDMA carrier!!!
If you go with a different phone, be sure there is an equivalent howto for that device before buying (I used the search terms "CDMA unlock").
Hope this helps, and good luck!
