NFC Fix for 900I Varients Running 900F Base (Deodexed Touchwiz Lollipop) - Galaxy S 5 Android Development (Snapdragon)

Hi all this is a fix for NFC not working on a S5 900I varient running a 900F base.
It does not require you to change bootloader to use it but it does require you to at least be running ktoonz or stock kernel.
To flash this zip it is under the impression that you are running lollipop on 900I S5 with either the ktoonz kernel or have updated bootloader and are using the stock kernel.
The NFC apk in the zip is deodexed because I am running a deodexed base but should work on odexed bases due to the updater script deleting the old nfc folder and installing new but is not tested yet on an odexed base.
The flashable zip is attached and is for lollipop roms only, if want one for kitkat I also do have one but have not attached since I no longer use kitkat.
If want to make your own with your own downloaded 900I base just look in the zip for what files are required from a 900I base for NFC to work, I did extensive testing on kitkat to find exactly what files are required so you only need about 7 files in total and the same amount of files are required for lollipop.
Feel free to include it in your rom maybe just give us some credit.

18 downloads and not 1 thank-you.:crying:

Was hoping someone would do this....

Thx for that!
So in my case, if I flash stock taiwan lollipop ROM and then I flash e.g Ambasadii/Alexndr lollipop rom designed for G900F then flashing this patch fixes NFC issue?
Do I think right? What with modem and bootloader?
You can have modem and bootloader from G900F too?

Hello there,
i have followed the instructions to the letter,I have a 900i, im running slightrom 1-2 which is a g900f base rom, i have ktoonz installed and i have flashed your fix from recovery. No go joe. im just wondering have i missed something? is this rom not compatible? i even tried just flashing again still no good, any advise?

Yes, if you are on a 900f rom then flash this the nfc should work but you need to be using either stock 900i lollipop kernel or ktoonz jernel. Modem and bootloader do not affect nfc. Personally i would not flash the 900f modem or bootloader on a non 900f varient.

I just had a look at slightrom and it is an odexed based rom which i havent tested this on an odex rom yet because i always use deodexed so its easier to mod. If get time later today ill try have a look at it but dont see why it doesnt work if using either stock 900i or ktoonz kernel as the script will delete the odexed file for nfc and replace it with a deodexed one

So I could flash official CM KLTE nightlies with this on my KLTEDV?
Would battery drain be visible?

Hi!
There is issue with sidesync after apply your fix to g900f based roms:

Just wanted to point out that the G900i Stock Kernel (NFC fix) is missing the required components which allow the control of the device via Sidesync.
If any Dev out there knows how to fix this, it would be great!

[Q] Quick Question.

Can I flash a new ROM (ICS) to my phone that has already got ICS (that's not the question) with an other kernel (Semaphore).
Do I have to change back the kernel?
Thanx for your Quick Answer.
So you want to flash a new ICS ROM over an existing ICS ROM ?
Did you mean that the current ROM has a different kernel?
Either way, flashing the new ROM will replace the old kernel and most likely work fine if the ROM is intended for your device.
What could cause problems is flashing the new ROM, then replacing the new kernel with the previous one.
Some ROMs use specific kernel features and if the used kernel doesn't suppor them it might cause problem.
If it doesn't work you should be able to flash back the previous ROM without a problem.

maybe i'm wrong but when you flash the new rom in some cases you can chose your new kernel and the installer will finish all for you.

Yes some offer that, but the op didn't which ROMs we are talking about, so i left that out.
ahh ok yeah thats right some of them must be installed over the recovery and don't have a skinned installer like aroma

Will ODEXing rom work on the SGN10.1?

This is supposed to be a universal method to ODEX:

Safe for use to try?

I'm pretty sure the stock rom is already ODEXed. I've been trying to learn how to cook roms and just DeODEXed a UEALH2 stock rom. So I suppose if you wanted to ODEX a DeODEXed Note 10.1 rom you could with this method.

There's not much point to re-odexing a firmware. It saves a tiny bit of time on initial boot, but that's it. It has zero performance impact once the device has booted, and makes maintaining a firmware very difficult. (This is, for example, one of the reasons why Cyanogenmod doesn't odex builds.)

Any stock 4.2.2 ROM available?

I know there is no official source for 4.2.2, but is there any "simple" port to it?
I am always running just rooted stock ROMs because they are much more smoother and responsive then CM clones or other heavily modified ROMs. I felt in love with those notification toggles and some other UI modifications from 4.2, is there any way I could get just a simple rooted version of it?
There's none so far.
Its in the general section. Here is the post with the latest 4.2 ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38262172
Read the OP as well. There is a link to a flashable supersu you will need to gain root.
Link to post containing quick settings mod for 4.2. You might have to extract the files and copy/paste directly to /system/app, and change permissions to rw-r-r(this is how I always do it, it will never flash properly for me.)

The rom can be found here Now that I know what to do I should be able to make some patches for International S5 Roms when it finally gets 4.4.4 Tw release
Here is the patch which you need to apply directly after installing rom before you reboot to setup

@jrkruse question, I know you mentioned about getting stuff working eventually to start patching 4.4.4 international roms when they finally get the update. Out of curiosity though, would something like your idea work for the current 4.4.2 base they have? If so, I'd be willing to test for you if needed, since I have twrp and ktoonsez. Thanks

This patch is only for 4.4.4 sprint..which last time I looked there's only 1 rom of it and it's just a stock rooted. Jrkruse said when the international s5 gets 4.4.4 he'll work on a patch for that then. I too would like a 4.4.2 international patch as I'm sure it's possible but it's alot of work, so myself im ok with waiting.

If you guys can send me the framework2.jar and telephony-common.jar and build.prop from the 4.4.2 rom that your wanting to use I can see if I can make a patch the only problem I believe is that the newer the international 4.4.2 builds got the more kernel dependent they were. but I can put one together and you can try it. I am without high speed internet for a few more days so in order for me to download one of the International roms to pull those files would take my like 12 hrs only have crappy 3g service on the phone right now.

I could probably do that.. If I could decide what rom looks the best performance wise to try out. If I'm able to choose, Would those few files in a zip be ok?
Also, what about T-mobile roms? Does the same apply to them? , as far as patching to work toes.

Im sure this is the only way we will see it on our phones is with a patch unless Verizon needs to push it out for something that benifits them like the 4.4.4 update to give us VOLTE
Sprint's version has wifi calling? Wonder if we can rip it...
As for that Android L link, there's more of a leak than just a video, that's all I'm gonna say.

Yup. This ROM was ported by Gogollie. This was built with a TouchWiz kernel, that's why it boots, it isn't real GPE without the GPE kernel. Just themed with some AOSP apps.

actually no 3.5 I have never ported. If its davy's ROM still its probably Stock International Wanam ROM Build with KNOX and other crap cleaned up with options to install AOSP apps by DSA creator of BlackBox another great Hybrid or its 100% TouchWiz with his Domination theme flashed over the top. If you dont know what Domination is in terms of a theme its one of the greatest themes ever made. I miss the option to go white with it sometimes tho. Its themed to look nearly identical to AOSP. Theres other Aroma options to MOD the ROM to act more like AOSP or install AOSP Apps like Calculators, Camera, and stuff. The Aroma installer is pretty nifty and lets you somewhat De-Bloat while installing it.
My newest ROM looks completely different and installs at half the size. Its also a minimal install / beast with speed and battery. I dont know its been posted here but you should be able to use it no problem. with safestrap just flash your modules to get wifi working. and if your at&T you might have to flash an apn patch to replace the apns from /etc directory with your own. or maybe manually entering them would work too. Its nearly all AOSP but yes in order to maintain good data signal, wifi, tethering, usb, etc I had to make a ROM over the TW so the Stock Kernel that most of AT&T/VZW has to run with a locked bootloader would be able to use these features of the phone with no problems. Theres also a "Smoke Weed Everyday"Nate Dogg Audio Clip during shutdown that I accidentally forgot to remove before releasing so if at work or school you might want to delete the file PowerOff.ogg from the /system/media/audio/ui folder you can also replace the file or PowerOn.ogg for startup sound with any mp3 or ogg file just rename it to that file name...

I've ran Purified for a long time on the 4.4.2, it's a TouchWiz-based ROM so it works with Safestrap just fine. It's using the Domination AOSP them package, it's a solid rom and I'm happy to see it's update I'll have to switch back.
