[Bug Report] [SOLVED] App crashes when subtitles are enabled - MX Player

[Bug Report] App crashes when subtitles are enabled
ASUS MeMo Pad FHD 10 (WiFi), Android 4.3, MX Player (pro) 1.7.35, also tested with 1.7.36 (beta) version.
Each time I play a video with subtitles enabled, MX Player crashes after 1-3 minutes of playing. I've tried it on different videos (codecs, 720p and 1080p, 8bit and 10bit), using HW and SW encoders. Results are always the same: if subtitles are enabled (internal or extrenal, with or withoud hw acceleration), player crashes after a minute (or so) of playing a video.
I haven't used it for nearly a month, so I don't know for sure when this weird behaviour has begun.
Here are three reports on google drive: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B8SONyEPcSqvWW9fX3FjRWJ5MVU&usp=sharing
The last of them has been generated after video suddenly closed with no warning or error generated.
If you need any additional details that could help, or if I can perform some extra tests, I'm eager to help.

Since there's a lack of spacing in that post, in case anyone missed it, the error logs were given here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B8SONyEPcSqvWW9fX3FjRWJ5MVU&usp=sharing

Partial solution:
Enable Android 4.0 compatibility mode. It works with .srt subtitles. Subtitles in .ass files still crash the player.
(NOTE: I don't have the MeMo Pad anymore, I've returned it to the store, so I leave the thread. Good luck with the bug.)

[Bug Report] MX forced rebooting on CM 11!!

I have been using MX player on all my phones since my first phone.
Recently I decided to run Cyanogen 11 custom ROM.
The list of videos displays fine. The player plays a heavily pixelated videos for a few seconds. Then the phone reboots.
The same cycle occurs again if I try to replay.
At first, I doubted my ROM. So I installed all the other video players from playstore. Surprisingly ALL of them play without any issue. Only MX force reboots.
I am running it with default settings. I even changed to SW from HW. Still reboots.
Device : LG L90 D-410
It should be hardware video decoder, I think this is rom related, you should report it to the developer of that rom.

I will soon. But I doubt anything will be done. Because as I said earlier, it ONLY happens with MX player, not any other player. Why such a thing?
Since the phone reboots instantly, I cant take any errors.

That's because MX Player uses custom android-internal modules that most other players don't; it's how MX's performance is superior. If a ROM builder had a compile problem, that's likely the cause.

Is it possible to collect the logs via adb?
Will upload soon.
Though I have only collected logs of my own apps via adb.
No experience with logs of ROMs.

It is hard to find reason with the log because only 3 lines are from MX Player.
But it seems that you used HW decoder. HW decoder is just wraper of android.media.MediaPlayer java class.
MX Player does not touch any system internal if HW decoder is used.
In this case, some MediaPlayer function calls -- which is not used by other video players you've tried -- may cause this issue.
I suspect subtitle related function calls, because 1) many video players doesnot use MediaPlayer subtitle functions and 2) there is an error from MediaPalyer; 10-30 23:53:36.478: E/MediaPlayer(6097): Should have subtitle controller already set
If my assumption is correct, SW decoder should work correctly. It would be help if you send log after trying SW decoder.
Thanks

Enabled full SW decoding.
Disabled subtitle drawing using HW.
Yet only a very few lines from MX !
What puzzled me is the last statement in the log. "AudioFlinger", call the process ID of mx player. And the system reboots.
Logs attached.
Process ID seen in attached pic.

Would you try after turning off "audio fade" settings on Settings > Audio > Fade on start/Fade on seek?
SW and HW decoder both changes volume rapidly to implement this feature.

A fatal problem for MX Pro V1.9.0 Cannot display ASS subtitles, request to repair!

MX Player Pro V1.9.0 Cannot load display ASS subtitles, request to repair!
Many MKV video subtitles are in ASS format, but the latest version of MX Player Pro doesn't show ASS subtitles .
Only MX Player Pro version V1.9.0 cannot .
My mobile phone is samsung s6 edge. Android 6.0.
After many tests, found that other players and the old version of MX Player Pro can be perfectly normal display ASS subtitles.
So ask the developer to fix this serious problem, or else user can only stay in the old version .

Very good .the test build is OK.
When to release the repair of Pro version?
I was wrong. It's SSA subtitles, not ASS subtitles .

MX Player 1.8.21 for x86 not recognizing external codec

Hi all,
Having a problem with MX player on an x86 tablet -- I upgraded from 1.7.40 to 1.8.21, and it was a mistake.
MX player 1.8.21 does not recognize the external x86 custom codec I downloaded from xda-developers.com (keeps telling me it wants the 1.8.6 x86 codec), nor does it seem satisfied with the x86 codec downloaded from the play store (settings -> decoder tells me that a custom codec is not in use). Playback is no longer smooth, it is jerky and unwatachable.
I tried to go back to 1.7.40 by downloading the .apk from the MX player website archives, but that doesn't work -- when I run it, it says I need a codec and redirects me to the play store, where the only option is the x86 codec for 1.8.21 which is not recognized by MX player 1.7.40. Even though I have the original x86 codec for 1.7.40, there is no way to get to the settings menu to direct it to the external codec.
So, what do I do to get back to a working MX player? Can I get 1.8.21 to recognize the x86 codec? Or how do I get back to 1.7.40?
Thanks!

I can answer most of my own questions -- it turns out the "mx_x86.zip" from the download section is version 1.9.0 (I didn't notice the "Version information" said 1.9.0, I saw the "currently 1.8.6.1 is named 1.8.6 because MX player expects 1.8.6" above that). I found the correct download in the Google drive link, old version.
However, even with the x86 codec, 1.8.21 still plays video files terribly -- jerky and stuttering.
I found a version of 1.7.40 on apkmirror that didn't automatically direct me to the play store, and it recognized my original 1.7.32.rev1 x86 driver. Now, the playback is smooth.
Also, another thing I've noticed is that subtitle rendering is MUCH worse under 1.8.21 than 1.7.40 -- karoke effects cause the subtitles to be "static" unless "enable SSA acceleration" is checked, but then it looks like the subtitles are rendered to the original video resolution and then scaled with the video to the current window size. This is OK for 720p scaled to 1080p (I have a 1920 x 1200 display tablet), but for DVD resolution (480p) it causes the subtitles to be fuzzy.

Ok, looking at bug reporting thread now. Do you also want info on the 1.7.40 install that works?
I'd also have to provide the video file -- it's a 1.27GB file, any recommendations on how to send it to you?

No hardware decoding on H96 Max

Hi.
Recently bought H96 Max TV-Box and installed MX Player Pro on it.
But player can't play HEVC H265 videos in HW mode.
When trying to switch to HW mode it says it is not supported.
HW+ option is greyed out(not available) at all.
Currently using SW method but video playback is very bad with this method and it is impossible to watch with this method.
TV-Box based on RK3399 processor that claims full H265 hardware decoding support and I know it does because built in players can handle this file without problem with smooth playback.
How can I get smooth hardware decoding in player at this device?
hi, I'm going to receive this TV Box as well,
have you solved this problem? I'm a bit afraid of that...

Hi,
Actually, the issue is that system decoders in your device do not report that they can support HEVC 10bit profiles. So, MX Player does not try the hardware accelerated playbacks as several devices are known to crash when force decoding 10bit HEVC & H.264.
Based on some feedbacks from the users like you, we have decided to make this logic as optional. From 1.9.19, even if the device doesn't explicitly report it's capabilities, MX Player will list the HEVC 10bit & H264 10bit on HW+ Video Codecs list on Settings > Decoder. It can be enabled with a warning. Once you enable the HEVC 10bit or H.264 10bit, it will be tried in both HW & HW+.
We have already started rolling out the new version in stages. If you haven't received yet, you can manually grab the apk from our wesite & try yourself. Kindly leave a feedback after testing the same in your device.

No video / black screen on philips android TV

Hi,
I just bought a Philips 32PFS6402 Android TV (version QM164E.).16.102.24).
Unfortunately the default video player, didn't have the possibility to adjust the subtitles, so I had to look for alternatives. Your MX player was highly recommended and the features I was looking for seems to be in place (remember where you stopped a video stored on USB and continue from that point on the next time. And adjust the timing of the subtitles while playing the video.)
so far so good. But unfortunately, not all video's are shown correctly. For some video's I only see a black screen. There is audio and ther are subtitles, but the screen stays black.
The codec info for the specific file:
MPEG-4 Video (XVID)
1920*800
Strange thing is, I can play the same movie using the default player.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
Matthijs

First of all, thanks for your reaction. How do I collect a bug report? I didn't see any options for that.
For you info. I tried Kodi today as well and experienced the same problems. No video image, while there is sound and there are subtitles. I find it to be very strange, since the same movie does play in the default player (no idea which one that is).
Today the movie I tested yesterday on MX Player, resulted in some kind of freeze. no response what so ever.
thanks,

Based on the information you have shared, it seems that your device's hardware-accelerated decoders are buggy or broken. Request you to tap on the HW button on the playback screen and check other decoders. It may work for you.
