i havent had any problems with it in the past. There is some info on the store about how it locks it down to secure it and there is a work around to get rid of the lock screen or something like that, but i've used it a ton in the past with no ill effects.

If you're using foxfi on 4.4 read the instructions carefully after you start it's service. It tells you to go into the settings and repeatedly toggle the hotspot till it becomes active.
If you're using foxfi on 5.1, then you're out of luck. the only thing you can do is use PDAnet+, which is Foxfi's version of tethering.
Thanks for ur reply...It repeatedly says (non verizon sim....sim not supported)........should I still continue pressing the hotspot button

If you're unable to root it and/or obtain S-OFF, alternative firmware is not an option.
Before I obtained S-Off and full root I was able to obtain temproot with Weaksauce2 and use this for tether:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter
Why not use Sunshine to obtain S-Off and do whatever you want with it? A patch for native VZW tether id available here once you have full root.

First off, you have to unlock your bootloader, then obtain s-off and root your phone. Then you can flash European firmware and it won't be a problem
my phone is s-off and rooted, please tell me how to fix hotspot problem

hi, i am planning on purchasing a sprint nexus s 4g. i already have a phone with a contract so i will not be activating it. i was wondering if i could officially upgrade the sprint nexus s 4g to ics without connecting to the sprint network or registering the phone. then would i be able to unlock and root? what i am really asking is will phones that are not connected to a cellular network still get the OTA upgrade or not.
thank you

I can't speak for the NS4G, since I don't have one, but I did just load a stock rom on my Evo Shift 4G that I am selling. The phone is not activated right now, and was only connected to wifi. I went to check for updates, and I was able to update to the latest version available on the Shift. YMMV. I've also done the same thing on an old Evo 4G. Only connected to wifi, and was able to apply updates.
Also, has the ICS update for the Sprint version been released yet?

There is no ICS OTA for the NS4G yet. When there is you should be able to update over wifi. Or you'll be able to just grab the OTA as a flashable zip from here once its released.

can you get ota with the bootloader unlocked? or do you have to relock it before you can get it.

I'm fairly certain you need to relock the phone, and then apply the update. The update won't process if the hboot is unlocked. From there, you will be able to unlock the phone again, to gain root access.

I'm new to the NS4G myself so I may be wrong but I've read many people post that you can still get OTAs with an unlocked bootloader and rooted. Supposedly you just have to be on a stock ROM already and can't have made any changes to any system files.
can I use vzw sg3 on at&t? anyway to sim unlock?
my current sg3 is on 4.3 and someone accepted the ota before I got my hands on it.
I simply don't want to use Verizon service I'd behappy to have it on pageplus but then again if I could use a at&t sim card I would also be happy and I think that would be easyer to do.
but when I put the sim in it it just says sim error.
I saw another video saying you could do sim unlock buy dialing *#197328640# to get to the service mode
and this is supposed to work for the note 2 and sg3 but it didn't work for me.
How its been with TW 4.1.2, all you had to do was go into Settings/Mobile Networks/Preferred Network Type and switch to Global or GSM (something along those lines) then edit your APNs. Are you able to change and try? Idk if you there are issues with making your APNs stick.
can anyone at least tell me how to root this sucker?

Since you're on TW 4.3, you need to use Saferoot to gain root access. You can not flash roms however unless you use SafeStrap.

Yea, that is the proper tool. Long story short, one user pointed out that it should work in our TW 4.3 discussion thread and then multiple other users confirmed as well. As such, Saferoot for the VZW S4 successfully roots our S3 on 4.3 as well. The OP of the Saferoot thread states it should work on other devices as its not S4 specific and it in fact does work for us.

at this point im not shore if root accsess is even worth the trouble if im going to be prompted with some custom flag dialer everytime I start the phone and then have to install xposed to set fake system status.
it hardly seems worth it all I really want to do is get the phone working on at&t or page plus. do I need that to enable developer mode and usb debugging?

Nah, Developer Options can be enabled easily enough by tapping the build number about eight times: Settings/About Phone

You do not need root. Simply go into Settings/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names. Hit the menu button /Add New APN and input the APN setting for AT&T.
I use a GSM network on my VZW S3.

My friend accidently bought HTC one M8 verizon from UAE, the phone is new with kitkat 4.4.2, everything is fine but when he tried to update the rom, it failed and says that software update only works in CDMA mode, this is what i actually dont understand, is this locked or unlocked mobile? and is there any possibility to unlock this phone like normal unlocked M8?
To actually update the software via ota you will have to be on Verizon's network. It comes globally unlocked meaning that it is capable of being used on other networks and such, but the problem you are running into is the fact that you are not on Verizon's network so you cannot update their software. If you are s-off there are stickies that contain the firmware and updated bootloaders that you can flash so that your software is all up to date. If you are still s-on and want to update I believe there is a 4.4.4 RUU that works for s-on in that same thread. If you are wanting to s-off it will prolly be easier to use sunshine on 4.4.2 since it works without problems, where on 4.4.4 you can get s-off with sunshine, however there are some users who are still not able to get it yet.

All you need is a verizon sim card. Install it, get the update and after it finishes, replace it with your carrier sim card again.

You could be right.
My point is that I used a verizon sim card (deactivated) to download two updates via wifi. The phone probably wants to verify that somehow the phone is in verizon's network and checks the sim card only. My m8 also was 4.4.2, after two updates now is 4.4.4.

Hello,
I have been searching and searching for a way to root this phone - Verizon HTC One M8. I'm tired of the 30 apps or so of bloatware and simply want to run my own launchers, etc without hindrance. I've heard sunshine might work, but i have not yet found a detailed guide for this process. If there is one please reply with link as I have searched and not found a guide.
Edit: I am running Marshmallow. (android 6.0). In the sunshine excel compatibility file there is something that confuses me as well. When i look at the boxes for HTC One M8 it says: Verizon m8 is network unlocked out of the box (all Verizon post paid phones are sim unlocked, prepaid are locked and we don't unlock them) - what does this mean? I want to root the phone to permanently get rid of the bloatware - can I?
Thanks,

hi
sim unlock just means you can put a different carriers sim in the phone and it should work. sunshine will work for getting you all set on unlocking and all that nifty stuff

What is the best way to get this phone rooted on the T-Mobile variant? Also, if the phone is unlocked and I want to use it on MetroPCS do I simply just add the sim card and change APN settings?

All indications are that this is really the only way to root the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
However, IDK if this will work on the more recent firmware that has been released. They have some BS security patches and I'm unsure if this will F up the root process.
I have to say that I hate the direction rooting phones has been heading. It used to be so easy to find the root method and recovery for whatever phone you had on whatever carrier. Now for the most popular Android phone we have to run through all these hoops.
The PIA build can still be rooted using the method you linked. Just make sure you have the right files for your carrier.
I have heard/read that this method will work on every build except the nougat beta.
