Coming from iPhone...some root assistance needed - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

What is the best way to get this phone rooted on the T-Mobile variant? Also, if the phone is unlocked and I want to use it on MetroPCS do I simply just add the sim card and change APN settings?

All indications are that this is really the only way to root the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
However, IDK if this will work on the more recent firmware that has been released. They have some BS security patches and I'm unsure if this will F up the root process.
I have to say that I hate the direction rooting phones has been heading. It used to be so easy to find the root method and recovery for whatever phone you had on whatever carrier. Now for the most popular Android phone we have to run through all these hoops.

The PIA build can still be rooted using the method you linked. Just make sure you have the right files for your carrier.
I have heard/read that this method will work on every build except the nougat beta.

can I use vzw sg3 on at&t? anyway to sim unlock?

can I use vzw sg3 on at&t? anyway to sim unlock?
my current sg3 is on 4.3 and someone accepted the ota before I got my hands on it.
I simply don't want to use Verizon service I'd behappy to have it on pageplus but then again if I could use a at&t sim card I would also be happy and I think that would be easyer to do.
but when I put the sim in it it just says sim error.
I saw another video saying you could do sim unlock buy dialing *#197328640# to get to the service mode
and this is supposed to work for the note 2 and sg3 but it didn't work for me.
How its been with TW 4.1.2, all you had to do was go into Settings/Mobile Networks/Preferred Network Type and switch to Global or GSM (something along those lines) then edit your APNs. Are you able to change and try? Idk if you there are issues with making your APNs stick.
can anyone at least tell me how to root this sucker?

Since you're on TW 4.3, you need to use Saferoot to gain root access. You can not flash roms however unless you use SafeStrap.

Yea, that is the proper tool. Long story short, one user pointed out that it should work in our TW 4.3 discussion thread and then multiple other users confirmed as well. As such, Saferoot for the VZW S4 successfully roots our S3 on 4.3 as well. The OP of the Saferoot thread states it should work on other devices as its not S4 specific and it in fact does work for us.

at this point im not shore if root accsess is even worth the trouble if im going to be prompted with some custom flag dialer everytime I start the phone and then have to install xposed to set fake system status.
it hardly seems worth it all I really want to do is get the phone working on at&t or page plus. do I need that to enable developer mode and usb debugging?

Nah, Developer Options can be enabled easily enough by tapping the build number about eight times: Settings/About Phone

You do not need root. Simply go into Settings/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names. Hit the menu button /Add New APN and input the APN setting for AT&T.
I use a GSM network on my VZW S3.

Moto G Pre-paid AT&T - SIM unlock?

I'm planning to buy this:
http://www.target.com/p/at-t-moto-g.../-/A-15181851#prodSlot=medium_1_3&term=moto+g
Which is a Prepaid AT&T Moto G for $99.
I plan to give it to my Mom who lives in Asia.
Does anyone know if I can unlock this phone for other simcards? Let's just say I will need to root it for SIM Unlock, does it have a locked bootloader?
Thanks All!
There are some various methods for rooting, I would give a few different ones a try. Since it's going to be an xt103x model (I forget the last digit since I have a different model), you could give this a try: -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577043-. It took one or two different methods for my model, the Boost Mobile one, but it's out there for rooting. Unlocking however, I'm not too sure there since I have a CDMA variant.

Thanks for the info!
Honestly, I'm really not crazy about rooting this even though I want to I only consider rooting this because of the SIM Unlock.
However, I found this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorola-...973?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19e56bf525
So, if this works, I think I'm all set. Stock AT&T Go phone + SIM unlock would be enough?

I personally have never really resorted to unlock codes since there are a lot of resources out there for phones, although it's of course up to you on what you are gonna do with your phone Also, why not root? I have it rooted with my stock firmware still installed cuz there are some times I need root access, plus all of the customization out there for it is just insane and awesome

You're right, probably I'll root (hoping it has an unlocked bootloader) + use stock ROM.
I might go to target later and find out. I just hope they have a good return policy just incase it does not work.
I'll report my findings.

Yeah I'd see firstly if they have any sort of unlocking policy or if that would be up to AT&T. I wish you the best of luck, and if you need any help, well you're in the right place and I'll try as well ^.^

Activate before unlocking an rooting?

So I jus got my Moto g 3rd gen for virgin Mobile an I was wondering if I should activate the device while it's on stock 5.1.1 or wait till I root an unlock the bootloader an get a new rom on it. I figured doin it before I root would get me the latest prl an profile updates but didn't know if it'd break the data switching to a newer rom
Yes. You must be on the stock ROM in order to activate your phone initially. You may, however, still proceed with unlock and root

Help with SM-G920W8 (CDN)

I rec'd a SM-G920W8 model from my cousin. Its on Fido but I have a Rogers SIM card. I would like to simply unlock the phone and use it on Rogers instead and if possible, update the phone to a newer ROM/Android version but to have it still on Rogers after the fact. The phone has following details:
Android Version: 5.1.1 (stock)
Baseband: G920W8VLU3BOJ7
Im sure there are a guides for this on here, I did find one for a bootloader unlock from Mr. X on here, but I wasnt sure which bootloader file to download and thought I would ask if someone could please point me to the right direction as I simply dont want to brick a phone.
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated by this newbie!
Thanks!
Are you sure it needs to be unlocked? Telus and Koodo phones as well as Bell and Virgin work on either network without unlocking.

You are right!
I just did what you suggested and its working now. I didnt think this was possible as the last Fido phone I had I had to unlock it.
Thanks for the suggestion! Much appreciated. I guess if I wanted to now just install a new ROM or update the Android platform on it, I can do that.
Yes. I'm running stock nougat on mine. It still receives updates ota without issue despite being a telus phone on koodo. I can root it and install a custom Rom anytime but it works fine and I don't want to wipe it right now. Too much important data. Online dating and texting several different girls I need to keep all my texts for future reference lol.

Question about rooting tmobile version

My main goal in rooting is to be able to use the Swift Installer app to theme my phone. There's not much else I wanna do, but I also wanna be able to still get updates.
Im on the tmobile version 9.5.8 and all I want is continued access to updates and using Swoft Installer.
Do I HAVE to convert to international and everything? And if so, can someone link me the most current guide to everything and keep up to date? I already have my Sim unlocked so I'm ready, just wanna be 100% and there seems to be multiple guides that have different files etc.
You don't have to go to international, but if you do, you can get around needing a bootloader unlock from oneplus and a network unlock from tmobile n when you root, you can still have the latest updates but you have to manually install them.

Any chance on a step by step on updating after converting and rooting? The guides for converting to international and then rooting and setting up twrp are pretty straightforward.
But I can't really find a clear step by step on how to update and keep root and everything afterwards straight from the phone, without having to use a computer. Any link to an explanation for that?
And in your opinion would it be worth it to just convert to international? Keep in mind all I'm aware that is lost is voLTE and something else when you convert, but I don't even know what those do. So I have a feeling that I wouldn't miss anything

I believe there are currently guides out there to guide you on how updating after root, it's a relatively painless procedure! I think it's totally worth it to convert, I didn't really want to get an unlock code and I personally hate the boot animation for tmobile. I will say, I still have VOLTE so you may not even lose that. Anything else feel free to ask.
