Is the camera in color OS really better than CM's stock cam? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love my 1+1's cam when it comes to capturing daylight images, but it massively lets down in low light snaps (nope, cant use slow shutter all the time). So i thought of giving color OS a shot as i have heard a lot of praise for its camera. my question is, is it really that better? i am currently downloading color os simply coz i want a better camera, but i have a nice thing going on with blisspop ATM. i hope you understand my reluctance as i am only willing to switch if the camera is significantly better.

Someone will have to correct me if im wrong (I dont use multi-rom so can't be certain) but im pretty sure you could install and run both Color os and blisspop with multi-rom and switch between the 2 for the camera functionality in Color.
I think I read somewhere (probably here) that Color os can only be installed as primary though.

[Q] Sense Based Camera vs AOSP Camera

I would like to know why does the Sense based camera do such a much better work whe it comes to focusing, or actually the whole quality of the image. Why? I get so much more detail and a better focus on the sense camera. That's the only reason at all I stay with sense roms, because of the camera. It also has better stock effects, while the AOSP camera comes with some ugly ones like sepia aqua like yeah there are some cool ones depending on which type of photo you're trying to take but the sense camera comes with the country effect which just takes amazing quality photos on the effect.

Sense includes software tweaks? I don't notice very much of a difference myself *shrug*

Yeah, the only real difference I notice is slightly faster focus and (obviously) the near ZSL

Well yeah it actually is just a little difference but when it come to the country effect it's just astonishing the pics I can take with it. When I take a picture on the country effect it looks like they've been taken from a DSLR camera. Is there any way that effect can be ported to AOSP ?

Low-Light Lens?

So I noticed that despite the fact that other people can get decent low-light pictures, I cannot. The pictures are quite grainy, and the noise is a little too much at times, which does not make for a nice picture. I hate the iPhone, but I think even THAT does better than the Xperia... I'm also running a custom ROM, PAC [AOKP].
Is there a setting or multiple settings that I'm missing or not configuring right? Is it because the ROM doesn't have an up-to-date firmware? Or is it really just the Xperia? If so, then do you guys know of any lens or ways that one could enhance the filter or the quality of the picture? There is a hell of a lot of noise and I don't like it.
Well, if you guys know of any way I can improve my quality, by all means, post a comment. I have no idea what I am doing wrong, if anything, but I would really like to see some improvements. I know that the filter is already built into the phone, but I am curious to see if there is anything one could do to somehow allow it to filter light so low-light shots would be better, brighter, and more clear.

[Q] Xenon flash isn't working :[

Hello,
I got my lumia 1020 recently,
its not new, its refubrished...
I am slightly disappointed with it, the xenon flash isn't working for some reason :[
Is there a way to check if its sotfware or hardware problem?
if I will replace the xenon part, will it work ?
beside it,
I am new with windows phone, so I have few questions,
How can I check that my phone isn't fake? as without xenon the pictures doesn't look like super high quality as I expected
in phone information, it shows phone model nokia 909...
Is there way to check phone specification with the phone?
Is there any advanced menu to control the phone? for now the only I found is the settings, its quite annoying
when its not divided to topics :\
I didn't checked yet, but is there option the skip song with volumes buttons when screen is off?
and the last, can I add backlight notifification? that the touch buttons will glow when I got missed call/notification?
Thanks alot!
hope to like the new OS :]
The flash only works with the camera app, not with torchlight-apps. If it doens't work with a camera-app it's broken. (Shure you've turned it on?)
909 is alright, every 1020 is named like this.
For notifications you should activate Nokia Glance in the settings.
why would you use internal flash for such a camera. it defeats the purpose. front face flash is always sucks.
The Xenon is kinda crap anyway I hardly use it as it makes peoples faces go yellow get much better pictures with it off and slower shutter speed with nokia procam

Unfortunately this is so true!!!
I never use the xenon!
I have not used the xenon flash much too but for one situation. When there is a light source behind the subject and the subject has the dark texture due to the light, I have used the flash to provide lighting.
For the OP, your flash might be off in the settings. Try pressing the flash icon on your screen. Then try to take photos.

[Q] Good camera on G3 w/ AOSP

Sorry for the noob question but I'm trying to decide to keep the G3 or trade for OnePlus One. Taking good photos is important to me and I'd like to be able to do things like slow motion. 4k is not that important. I know some are using the moto camera but having trouble with video (which is also important to me). I'd really rather stay with a CM style OS if possible
So keep the G3 and run stock or trade for OnePlus?
If you want a great camera on AOSP, you might as well ditch the G3. You could still take pretty good pictures in good conditions, but will have problems in low light, high contrast, and anything requiring fine details.
You can't take advantage of the G3 camera's processing and hardware on anything but stock-based ROMs. People will tell you the M9 camera port is as good as stock, but they're not photographers with any sort of discerning eye. There's no comparison. No camera apps can match what's possible on a stock-based ROM.
That being said, the OPO camera isn't that great. It would be silly to trade to that phone for the camera IMO.
Some stock-based ROMs for the G3 are getting closer to AOSP-style. The latest Cloudy build is pretty good, and there are a few theme options. You just have to choose what sort of trade-off you want --
+ smoother AOSP ROM with crappy camera, or
+ decent ROM with great camera
I'd go for the latter, but I'm a photographer and bought the G3 for its camera.
Thanks for the feedback. I've tried some ROMS though I have not tried Cloudy. I'm not a photographer and my eye is not that discerning.

Mi4c Camera issues (blurry in low/fluorescent light)

After purchasing the Mi4c and waiting for it for three weeks, I keenly unboxed it and started tweaking the living hell out of it. Among others I installed several Google apps, the google account manager (switch off sync in China as it will draaaain your battery), and MIUI 5.10.16 dev. So far so good.
However, when I tried the camera, the online shots of which were very promising, I was so disappointed I ordered the Nexus 5X straight away. In any circumstance that isn't sunny, the rear-facing camera will perform horribly. What I mean is that, unless you stabilize the phone securely with two hands, any shot in a fluorescent light or otherwise slightly dim environment will result in heavy blur. As if you were shaking the phone while you took the shot. Comparing with the Nexus 5 (2013), where you could take a shot from your wrist while riding a bicycle and still have an acceptable result.
Can anyone else confirm? Do I have the worse of two sensors, is it just the tiny objective, or is it software-related? Or is it just what I should learn to accept from a 1500 RMB phone?
Hello mate,
this is what you should learn from a 1500 RMB phone, camera sux as soon as conditions are not optimum. Tried a lot of apps, but the results is still the same. Some apps will focus better though (lenovo super camera v5 for instance).
Nevertheless, a part from the camera, the phone is way better with CM12.1 than the nexus 5X which handle apps horribly again... Very slow to open and reload apps. Which is kind of a big deal.
upload some pics if possible..
let's see it...
Maybe the camera app just sucks hard? You should try others to compare...
These are all shot from the wrist with minimal effort at stabilizing, the way I used to snap pictures with my Nexus 5
Try to take a few indoor shots with a steady hand. It could be that the software uses a quite long shutter time, which results in a blurry shot if the hand isn't steady.
The second step would be: manually set the shutter time according to your preference.
Sure, steadying the phone entirely will work. But that's not really a solution, as you often take a quick snap, the device is light and therefore in almost all situations your hand will be unsteady. It felt like the nexus5 was able to use shorter shutter times in low-light conditions and took steady pictures almost all of the time.
potentially a software problem; after flashing CM Rom the camera improved significantly (also switched from N5 to 4C)
agreed, it got significantly better with the CM rom. Still fairly noisy and a little blurry though. Looks like the camera app (I use Google Camera 4.0) actually takes its time to focus rather than attempting to deliver the quickest shot possible.

He already has, yesterday
Maybe we can have some more samples from another camera app ? We know you have the Sony sensor now, it could be interesting to see if someone has a Samsung one and how is it different in picture quality.
Here are some, as your see low light ones aren't very good and blurred. But even the sunlight ones are a little grainy and not perfectly crisp. Sony sensor.

So, i'm really very confused now... someone says it is very great (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63730763&postcount=44) and you say it is bad and open a bug!
I would prefer great camera and battery over LTE band 20, but here i don't understand yet if mi4c have or not great camera... Can you please help me understand? Thanks
Well... Depends by user.. 50% say camera is awesome 50% not - You can see something like this on many phones
